I got lectured in a crochet group because I don’t sew lol they said my bags wouldn’t be as nice and well “in their face”
💥
😂
Meh don’t listen to negative Nancy’s
Hey there's an old saying there's more than one way to skin a cat. Just sayn
💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm even lazier. I found a cloth shopping bag that fits my crochet bag. So just gonna cut off the handles and use this method to line it with.
I'd leave the handles. When you don't have to add any. 🤷🏻🤣
Loved this Taylor. I’m a young 72 and used to crochet a lot. My mother In-Love passed away a few years ago and was a skilled crocheter of everything possible. Well now I have a 12 year old Grandaughter who is just like her GG…She has been crocheted for about 2 years and wow can she crochet…She looks at something and has the pattern in her head and just does it. Amazing how some people are talented naturally with these skills..I’m going to send her this. She has made several bags and I told her about lining them, and this will tickle her. Thank you..Her name is Eden like the Garden and I am sure you will see her name on your channel soon…Hugs Keep up the good work..Hugs
❤ I learned from my Granny really young too. ❤
I'm so glad I found a way to add a liner without using a sewing machine. For some reason, sewing in a liner seems daunting to me. Crochet is an extension of the project which makes it feel like it is part of the finishing process. Thank you!
Yes! You relayed my feelings about this better than I could! Lol! This is a game changer for me!
This is a game changer. 20 minites before xoming across this video, I was expressing to my husband that I love making my tote bags, but HATE lining them and that I wished I could find a way that made it easier to add a lining to them and BOOM there's this video!
You can use a small silver hook and some #10 crochet thread or embroidery floss. The little hooks like a size 7 (not the hooks for yarn crochet) will poke a hoke through the fabric as you go. We used to use these to crochet trims on pillow cases. Hope this helps.❤
I wish I knew about this. I've been taught to sew the liner.
@@brooklyn7722 I'd rather sew the liner, at least the sides and bottom. As for the top, I'm thinking I'd connect all the pieces to the outside at the same time. But I'd do it her way if I didn't have a sewing machine.😀
Can you show what the little hooks size 7 not the crochet hooks look like😊
@@Luvurselffirst yes pls idk what they mean
I do the same thing, it's so much easier using the small hook to poke holes through the fabric. I do this with my purses 😌👍🏽
Brilliant idea, it saves me alot of time and don't have to drag out the sewing machine. You can easily add a zipper by hans sewing the zipper to the liner and the single crochet stitch.
Why not add the zipper using the skip bladed and crochet it in?
This will certainly work, and if you really hate sewing or don't want to do it, have fun. I caution that it won't be as long lasting as sewing it. To help with long term durability without sewing I suggest using the awl to make your holes. A proper awl doesn't cut the threads that make up the fabric so it won't weaken those spots the same way. Another option is to use an iron-on stabilizer along where those cuts will be made to help support and strengthen the fabric. I would also consider doing the internal seam along the bottom with the thinnest crochet thread and hook you can. Some small crochet hooks may even be able to go directly through the weave of the fabric just like an awl.
I would also add that, particularly for smaller projects like this, a hand needle and basic sewing is so easy and if you can crochet you can do it.
I've never heard of skip blade and I'm SO excited. Thanks!!
Probably the best use of a skip blade ever!
I had never heard of a skip blade until 2 days ago!
this just revolutionized several in-progress projects for me
My personal preference would be to press that fabric neatly first 😂😂😂😂
Exactly!
ok, I didn't know Taylor was a superhero! I have never done bags because of the sole reason of having to sew in a lining... Taylor, thank you so much for LITERALLY changing the game of crochet. Oh my gosh, this opens so many doors of items I now want to crochet... hobo bags, granny square bags, even lined beanies! I can't even... Taylor... Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Wow
Yesssss! ❤
Loved this. My mind kept going to the different things I could make and line. Thank uou😊❤
I LOVE THIS❣️ I especially love it that other talented people have been reluctant to tackle linings as have I. 🥰
I have been crocheting for a solid 15 years and have NEVER thought to do this. This is genius, thanks for making this tutorial! It's kinda funny because I definitely feel like sewing with a machine would be faster and I have one I've been meaning to learn how to use but this just feels SO MUCH easier.
Ha ha, the machine takes SECONDS to do this job.
@@irmar 😂 if you're good at it, sure. But I have a really cheap second hand sewing machine and I don't really understand how to use it, so this method is perfect for me!
I love my skip cutter blade I use it all the time with Fleece fabric so I can crochet a nice edge around.
I have been making bags. I was researching sewing machines and "how to videos" because I have no idea how to use them. THIS VIDEO JUST SAVED ME TIME, MONEY, SANITY....I am going to continue to be a CROCHETER....and use this method. THANK YOU!
OH MY GOSH THAT IS BRILLIANT !!!!!
Exactly. Perfect idea.
Finally! I can finish the bag I made 10+ years ago! Thank you 🙏🏻 🤗
This will turn out even nicer if one presses the fabric before cutting. I do like the crochet finish around the top edge of the lining where it’s connected to the bag body, but honestly I think it would be a heck of a lot faster to sew the bottom seam, even if it’s just a handsewn backstitch.
Thank you! Most definitely helpful! Never heard of skip blade before but it’ll be my next investment now lol!
Pizza Cutter = Rotary tool/cutter - Thanks for sharing your video!
You ladies on UA-cam have taught me a lot of helpful tips.
I made a beautiful crochet purse/bag bought fabric and still haven't lined it because I was dreading it. This is perfect thank you
That was very helpful. I am getting a skip cutter
So glad you did this, so helpful now I’m going to go line my bags, thanks so much
Awl is pronounced like All. Hope that helps. God bless you for this much needed tutorial. 💖💖🙏🙏💖💖
This looks beautiful. So much prettier than using a machine.
Perfect. Iv been putting off lining bags as I cannit use a sewing machine. This is a game changer for me. Thanks so much 😊
I was just thinking about making a lined bag, and how t do it... and there you are. You just popped into my list of suggested sites. Always happens. Thanks for all the great ideas. Very helpful. I'll be watching.
Thank you so much for showing us this amazing technique. I stopped making bags because I hated sewing the lining. Now, with this trick I will be making bags again. Wohoo!😊❤
This is the best method I’ve seen thank you
You are a literal miracle worker 🙌🏾🙌🏾 thanks so much
I didn't know I needed a lined bag but now I do!
😂 I made and gave a crochet bag to a friend in front of other friends and someone asked if I was going to line it 😮 I said no 😂 But as I'm watching this, I texted my friend and asked for the bag back so I can line it 😂😂😂😂
love it, at first i thought you were going to install velcro somehow , but that is another great method!
Awl is pronounced like all. I was amazed that the man at the hardware store had no idea what I was talking about. I finally found it on my own. It is used in leatherworking and other crafts.
Seems simple enough 🤷🏻♀️😂
Never knew about the split blade!! Going to have to purchase one in the very near future!! Love the look of crocheting a lining in instead of sewing. Thank you!!🧶🧶🧶🧶🥰🥰🥰
I like this idea a lot and you explain how to do it in a way that's very understandable, but would you please also make a video showing how to do this while also inserting a zipper at the top?
Feeling a bit of a plonker, I’m not a sewer, never have been. At the age of 62 I’ve just started crochet, first time for everything, which I’m loving and making loads of small one granny square size pouches with tie. Didn’t think about lining them, ouch, I shudder at the thought. But, if my bags gets bigger I might just have to do this, thanks for your tutorial ❤
Thank you -interesting video. I’m glad I have a sewing machine which would be quicker but nice to know another method. I love your relaxed approach -I would have had to get out the iron and press the fabric! Good job.
This is an amazing video. I've avoided lining anything becuz I just didn't know how to begin. I just got some stitch markers. I will definitely use those to hold edges together while I single crotchet across the liner and bag. Thanks so much!!!
This. Is. FABULOUS! Thank you! I see a trip to JoAnn Fabrics in my near future for supplies. ☺️
OMG! This is so clever! Finally I can find a friendly way for lining bags as I don't know how to sew. Thank you! ❤
This is a great video! I’ve been wanting to add a liner to my bags but I just didn’t want to sew a liner in. Love it! ☺️
Kudos to you on the job well done! Totally awesome!!!!🔥💚👍
Taylor I love the fabric crochet look. I’d crochet with the wrong sides together so you can see the lovely joining stitches for the lining
Excellent tutorial. Like many folks, I don't sew Will definitely recommend this video to others.
omg this tutorial deserve more views because!!! i create puffy bag and sewing is just questionable for it due to the filling
This is so clever! I'd never even heard of a skip blade before this and I'm excited to try this!
This is exactly the video I was looking for, thank you so much!!
This is a total game changer. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing this technique. I just finished a bag and didn't know how to line it. Perfect answer to finishing my bag.😊
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! I found never figured out how to keep small things in my crochet bags without resorting to putting it all in ziploc baggies! Lol. This is genius!
Dosn't the fabric fray at the holes?
What thing I learned: tools matter. Nice work.
I just ordered a skip blade for my Olfa Rotary Cutter. Finally, I can line those finished bags I’ve had set aside for ages. Thanks!
thank you ! This is a very helpful video ! I m going to use this technique to line my crochet book cover .
Thank you so much for this tutorial!
One little tip.. wash and dry your fabric first. Then iron. Ok. You’re ready to start!
This tutorial was super helpful! Thanks!

You are so welcome
Love this technique. I’m going to have to buy me some of those special blades!
Very helpful indeed …😊 I rather like this method vs sewing 🧵 ty for sharing
Great idea. My only concern with cotton fabric is it will fray. It’s the only reason I haven’t tried this yet. It will certainly work fine with fabrics that do not fray.
Great video. Thank you.
I love this idea!! I am going to try it on my first bag I just started. Thank you ❤
Great technique!
I love this!!🥰
