  • Did you know that you can walk to Hever Castle from Hever train station?
Hever Station (unmanned and no taxis) is a one-mile rural walk to the castle. As you leave the platform you will also see another map on your left. This will guide you to Hever Castle, but you simply need to look out for red and white wooden posts.

I absolutely LOVED Hever Castle when I visited 3 years ago. But this walk is terrible. It looks inviting in this video, but the walk through the sheep field was confusing and I got lost. Then most of the way you have to walk on a narrow street with no sidewalks, having to jump into the bushes to avoid fast oncoming traffic. It was terrifying, especially as a woman alone. Fortunately I stopped and found some kind people that lived not far from the castle who drove me the rest of the way. There should be a shuttle service for tourists from the train station. I would’ve paid any amount. The castle is amazing, but I wish there was better accommodation for visitors trying to get to this remote location.

Hoping to visit in the spring. Saw the video and it looked delightful, and "well signposted", but your comment has made me think again!

Agreed!!! I ended up getting lost in the middle of that field surrounded by dozens of sheep and was terrified! Had to walk back to the main road and find my way walking on the street with lots of oncoming traffic....They should have a shuttle service or at least warn of the sheep! However, once there the castle and grounds are amazing!!

I went there when I was a boy (I'm 68 now) but have always remembered it. I'm hoping to get the train down in August sometime to revisit the castle and grounds.

My friend and I did this walk and it was one of the highlights of our trip to the UK. I will say - we did get lost in the sheep field, as someone else mentioned. It's confusing there. Also, there was a rowdy car of men who drove by yelling at us when we came out at the road so I second what another commenter said about not walking alone. However, all of that aside, if your'e with a friend and have a little extra time, and know that the sheep field may be confusing (and be prepared), it's wonderful. I actually enjoyed being in the sheep field for a while!

I’ve just done this walk today and as nice as it was, you guys could make a killing with a little shuttle bus

I loved this walk. My son and I were booked to visit Hever Castle when we found this video. It made our visit all the more special. I'm not sure how the others got lost in the sheep field. There was a path and gate at the end. (It is possible to bypass the field and join the join the main path bit lower down the road as an alternative). We felt completely safe. The road was more busy than we expected as well, but if you follow the rule of walking against the traffic and make yourself visible (don't jump into the hedge) you will be ok.

Thanks for this.... but as a lone woman, I would not encourage anyone to walk those country paths alone!!!!
Even in the daytime not on your nelly!!!!.
Absolutely asking for trouble... And there will be women watching this not even seeing or anticipating the danger!!!!
    I despair.
