    Hever Castle is definitely on my bucket list. The playing cards for ornaments and red roses on trees was just spectacular!

    I love to see people take pride in their decorations and to continue to celebrate Christmas. I love, love, love my decorations! I collect different things, and can tell you where each one came from. My very first piece I got for myself, was in 1984. Its a tiny box with a mirror inside the lid, and a brown teddy bear and presents are popping out. I love to go into the woods on our 160 acres, and look for that certain pine, the magnolias, etc. I make my own wreaths from live pine and cedar. I put wreaths on our two barns. I hate to see people drag out a fake tree thats predecorated and been in a closet all year, and they dont bother to shape it.
    Merry Christmas and God Bless Everyone! Alabama USA 2023!

    What a special treat that was for you Sarah! Lucky you!
    Tudor History and Christmas, two of my favourite things married together in this lovely video. 👍💕
    Very interesting to hear how the Boleyns and others celebrated Christmas in Tudor times.
    Some traditions have disappeared while others have changed and adapted for the current age.
    Hever was decorated so beautifully here, so ambient and cosy.
    I just adore the red berries, holly, ivy, christmas trees, candles, garlands and table pieces etc.
    I don't know why so many people have complained about the trees in this video, saying they were inaccurate. That's wasn't the point of course. They were there to make Hever look festive.
    Owen is such a nice guy isn't he, very enthusiastic and good in his role at Hever. I've seen him previously in a video with Claire Ridgeway on her UA-cam channel.

    Its amazing that Hever is still there to see. I always thought poor Anne got a bum deal. I'm sure her family pressured her into marrying Henry. Maybe she came to love him but he was obsesses by her and when the obsession ended she was done.

      The Hever Castle now is different looking from Anne Boleyn's day. Henry loved the chase with Anne. She refused to become his mistress which made him desire her more. Once Henry had his way with her, she became pregnant and they wed, the attraction for Henry wasn't as high.

      She didn’t give Henry a son. That was her downfall.

      She promised him a son if he married her. Henry held her to it. Unfortunately men thought women were responsible for the sex of the baby.

    Sorry turned off after 2 minutes. Christmas trees in Tudor times ?.... are you sure that's correct ?. I am fairly certain that they were not introduced until Victorian times. Simple research would of corrected this oversight.

    • @DrOwenEmmerson
      @DrOwenEmmerson 3 роки тому +10

      Sarah is absolutely correct, we decorate Hever with Christmas trees each year, not because they are authentic to the Tudor era, but because for many years it has been the tradition here. Many people have lived in the castle since, and the Astor family were particularly famed for having beautifully decorated Christmas trees here at Hever in the early C20th. Incidentally, tradition has it that the first Christmas tree, decorated by candles, was established by Martin Luther in 1536! They were certainly well-established in Germany by 1605, when it was noted that people “set up fir trees in the parlours and hung thereon roses cut out of many-coloured paper, apples, wafers, gold-foil and sweets.” The Christmas tree also pre-dates the Victorian era in England, Queen Charlotte setting up the first known tree at Queen’s Lodge in Windsor in 1800. I do hope you’re able to enjoy the rest of the video with this knowledge.
