I added this video to my “How to ship a...” playlist. ALSO! Thanks for stopping by my live 😭❤️
Tae is a good dude. Love that guy. Great show tonight Emily.
@@commonwealthflipper thank you 😭
I wouldn't mind a share of that playlist. x
I sell lots of records and have been collecting records for 30+ years. I always ship with a fresh inner and outer sleeve. I use a sheet of bubble wrap on both sides. I think the key take-away though, is to ship the vinyl outside of the cover to avoid split seams. I charge $4 flat to ship records. They’re usually $2.80 or $3.33 via media mail and that extra cost covers my materials pretty well.
Thanks Tim.
I have a lot of records I'm getting ready to get rid of on eBay. Will media mail let me send this to individuals? Reading the usps website I was not sure. Thanks
Good stuff. I like the fact that you said that the most important thing is "what does the buyer want?". We need to keep this in mind with ALL our products. Thanks.
During their breaks mailmen love to use record mailer boxes as frisbees.
Kevin, I can not THANK YOU enough for the Enemans I bought for my nieces and nephews as Christmas presents back in the spring. My niece who is now 15 took it out of her box, looked at her Dad (like what did Crazy Aunt Cami get me now?) hahaha and he explained to her what Fleet was and she suddenly squealed, jumped up and ran to go show her grandparents who were in the kitchen cooking. She kept saying over and over it was her mostest favorite gift ever LOL My 2 nephews first said "Ewwww" as they were eaves dropping but then I told them it was "To keep things moving" and OMG you would have thought I had given them puppies cause they were then sitting around holding them with such pride as they ate and watched the football game hahaha They were more excited over Eneman than they were the 16oz Vando PacMan glasses hahaha (I got them at the charity thrift store for $0.10 each new in their original packaging hahaha). Again THANK YOU for creating a wonderful Christmas memory hahaha a Fleet Eneman hahaha
I was really blessed at Christmas. My Brother came and picked me up (since I can't drive anymore haven't since 2005 when I became disabled, I am only 58) and I spent the afternoon with his In Laws, they are so much fun. Then I had to be back here at my apartments at 5 because one of my neighbors had some of us loners come over for Christmas dinner of Prime rib, Lemon meringue pie, tons of cookies and my caramel pie YES I ate too much hahaha but we had the grandest time, me and 4 other neighbors, I figured I was going to struggle badly this Christmas season but I had so many people helping me. God is so good!
Loveg yall very much
That is awesome. Heartwarming story. Thanks for sharing.
BINGO BROTHA ...AS A COLLECTOR ID B HAPPY TO GET AN ALBUM THAT WAY FOR SURE !!! 10.00 AND UNDER JUST GET A BOX 10-20 GET 1 STIFFNER ONTOP OF RECORD SIDE (cause the outer sleeve is good for the back side ) anything above 20 gets stiffners on both sides when i ship em ...wich isnt alot cause ppl r SO picky when it comes to albums ugggh ...lol good stuff as always !!
Awesome. Thanks so much.
After putting the record in the new inner sleeve, I would put the original inner sleeve back into the outer sleeve. That's just asking to get bent while packing especially if it's already showing signs of splitting. For some, that's almost as important as the condition of the outer sleeve. And it's one less thing to worry about.
Nice how to video! This is a good way to send cheaper records, but for the more expensive ones, I would use a bigger box for corner protection. If this box lands on a corner at anytime during the shipping process, the corner damage will transfer to the record sleeve. I've cut my own mailers by using 2 pieces of cardboard that wrap around the record first wrap is snug and fits record side to side, and 2nd piece wraps around the open sides, but is about 1inch bigger from side to side to give it corner protection.
Thanks for doing this. Can you do one on how you would ship a pennant?
Maybe soon
I always make sure my clear poly protector is sealed at the top. When I place the record between the cardboard fillers always make sure you tape all four sides. Don't use packing tape it's to hard to get off. I always use masking tape. Collectors get very picky on how you pack the Record.
I feel like I over tape everything that I sell but I know its not going to open up in transit
I love tape and tissue paper on 95% of my stuff
My wife says I go overboard. Better safe than sorry. It’s not worth negative feedback. An extra 1ft of tape is less than a penny.
Just watched the short! Thanks for the education!
LOL. That was just for fun. Glad you liked it.
I very recently purchased cardboard for the 1st time. I used to mail records sandwiched between 2 pieces of cardboard I'd get from a furniture store. But I been getting a lot of records lately and also picked up some laserdisc and decided I'm tired of cutting cardboard out. Sometimes speed and convenience is worth losing a few cents here and there.
Amen to that
I ship mine in pizza boxes. Haven't had a problem!
Thanks for the tips! I'm a former Deejay and have had a bunch of my collection just sitting for years. I'm excited to get a bunch listed now. Appreciate ya and just subbed! - Ram at NorCal Hobby Shop
Thanks, now im gonna send this video to ebay vinyl sellers lol
I sell media too. LP's and reel to reel.
When I ship a record, no matter price, I ship them all like this:
Package the sleeve, record, inner sleeve just like you. I do NOT use stiffeners, I use a sheet of bubble on EACH side of the record, against the shipping box. I've never had a damaged record. The ONLY way I would use a stiffener, is IF it's getting sent international. Doing it my way, you can get records to ship at the 1# media rate. Otherwise you are at the 2# rate. I use the eBay record boxes, because I get them free. I like yours, but they aren't $49, your link is $64. I found some other ones in the suggestion for $58.
I set my record weight at 1.3 #'s and ship for $4 flat media US, and calculated international (this is for single LP's with slip covers) . Gatefolds and double/triples are higher.
Hope that helps Kevin.
Thank you. I tend to like the bubble wrap myself. I think you are right. I can't imagine why that wouldn't do the trick.
The problem with buying the proper supplies is you need to buy large quantities to get decent prices, which just does not make sense for someone like me that sells one a month.
Nice informative. Good teaching. Your teaching how to ship history.
I bought new boxes on Amazon and shipped one record and the box didn’t even close all the way I think I’m gonna return them
Oh shit I own that record. Got it from some bulk buy a few years ago, decent spin if you're bored
Good info. I want to wish you and your family a Happy New Year’s Eve! See you in the new year!🎉🪅🎊
Where do you buy your shipping supplies? I don’t see any this cheap! Thanks!!
same question. tired of making these...lol
You're doing OK for a non-record-seller. You probably saw the video of the fellow who taped the filler pads tightly around the record so that neither the record nor the jacket will be hurled against the mailer if the package gets tossed around, but that is probably overkill for the type of records you sell.
I use more expensive inner sleeves for expensive records if they don't already have one, but on the other hand i don't have to buy mailers because of all the ones I save when I buy records. Customers don't care if you recycle the mailer, just as long as the record is protected.
I hope you follow up on the tip I gave you about primitive gospel and country music. There are $100+ records out there, you just have to learn to recognize and buy them. Just go to religious and gospel records on eBay, select sold listings, and sort by price highest first. You will see the same records over and over in the $100+ category, just look at all the covers and get an idea of the type of thing your are looking for. A lot of what sells is not in great condition, and still brings a high price.
I’ll have to check out the country gospel records. My 94 year old dad has a lot!! He’s asked me if I thought I could sell them on eBay. Thanks for sharing the information.
I ha e a record rescue collection- lots of jazz. Gospel, classical, and country. Old country, pressing s from the 60s and 70s I have 15feet of vinyl and am so not sure where to start!!
I am so glad you did this video!!! Now if only I knew which ones to buy. Sigh.
Happy New Year to you and your family.
You must really like hearing yourself talk, hint ,just do the demo.
What about a $200 vinyl? I feel like it needs to be wrapped like this and then also put in a box or an even bigger wrap for corner protections.
yeah probably a good idea.
Don't sell records but found this interesting
Yep 2nd finger and thumb only to handle i noticed but didnt say anythg
Lol. Thanks Lynn
I glue the flaps together so the inner flaps don't get pushed in. Overkill? Probably.
Lol.
Hey Kevin, i was wondering were you buy the record shipping boxes. Is it ebay.. Just sold a record for the first time and the customer received it. Now mind you this was new in the sleeve. But the sleeve was bent some. Well i had to buy a box to ship it i paid 3 bucks and it was a 22 dollar sale. So it was a waste of 3 bucks. Because the customer open a return which i never get ever and stating the record were warped. He sent pictures. So i just told him no need to return i will refund. He was happy. Of course he didn't show it in my feedbacks. So i lost money in it. So i do have a few i got free and like yourself i don't know much grading them. I know how to play is it. Let me know were u get your boxes from. Thank you. Happy new year's.
I have links to eBay and Amazon for the boxes in the description of the video. Thanks for watching.
Thank You.
Thank you again!!
Bravo! Very good. Much better!!
LOL Thanks so much.
Any advice on how to handle an item returned to sender? Item had showed out for delivery and then delivered on the 4th (eBay still says delivered Dec. 4th) but on the 20th it suddenly was picked up by USPS, tried to be forwarded, said addressee unknown and then sent back to me and just arrived today. So far I haven't heard anything from the buyer.
I would just hold it until Jan 4th at the earliest. Then relist it it. If the buyer contacts you before it sells resend it at there cost. If after it sold then Refund minus shipping.
@@commonwealthflipper Awesome! Thank you so much. That's what I was leaning towards doing but I was unsure of what others did.
Great!
What size box is it?
12.5 12.5 1 It should be in the description of the video through a link.
And there's still No Cats, Kids or Sophie!! lol Thanks ! Where you used the plastic bag, I sometimes use a poly mailer where I can seal it up, or use a 2 1/2 gallon sip lock bag. I'm always it will be left in the rain and it will get destroyed. Just curious, did you guys find Jingles a home? Thanks and Happy New Year!!!!
We did. So happy. The kids and BRM aren’t as happy as me.
no such box anywhere
Paper sleeves...
If you include stickers or a business card, wouldn't that be considered advertising? And if so, would that eliminate the option of sending via media mail?
No
I highly doubt that the post office would do that.
I,m sorry but your standard of shipping based on sale price is wrong . Every record should be packaged the same way
No chance.
Paper inner sleeves are a big NO for record collectors
not true.
