I get what you're saying about these fancy boxes. I want to point out that using the standard mailer is perfectly fine as long as you take steps to protect the innards of the mailer. Ie- I use standard mailers that are expandable. I then purchase white foam board from the $ store cut these using a record jacket template, and they end up just slightly bigger then the record. I then pack my cleaned record in a new sleeve outside the jacket, using x2 outer sleeved and position them facing two different directions so that the record cannot slip around. I use x2 of my foam stiffeners and insert it between the sleeves so that is presses the record slightly and does not allow it to move. I then tape the second stiffener on the other side the the record and seal them evenly together (like a sandwich where the record is the jam). This will leave a small gap between the mailer and the record and reinforce the mailer. I have been doing this for years now, and get rave revues about how I pack my items. I'm not saying this of for everyone, but I am showing you a way to use the less expensive mailers and deliver product that is undamaged. BTW, to avoid split on SEALED records, follow the outer sleeve trick but tape the record in the sleeve on all 4 points where the vinyl would split through. This reinforces the sleeve, and then adding your foam boards to either side lessens the movement of the record in the sleeve. I plan to make a video of this process in the future.. if I ever find the time.
Excellent video. Over the years i`ve received so many records damaged during shipping due to the seller not packing the record properly. It`s really frustrating. Personally i prefer to leave the vinyl in the sleeve during shipping. I always wrap the record twice in thick bubble wrap and then make a box from sheet card to fit exactly so as the record can`t move about in the box. I also build up a few layers of tape on each corner of the box to protect the corners from damage. I`ve done many international and domestic orders using this method and never had one order damaged
thank you very much for your comment this is key (you just have to care) and understand how records get damaged in the mail then use an appropriate method suitable or fitting for your particular purpose to prevent any shipping damage GRATZ!! you may want to cut your sheet card 13x13 then tape the record to one side of the sheet this will provide extra protection, I have used this method in the past and have recommended it to other folks who only need to ship 1 or 2 records and don't want to purchase a case of boxes. thanks for watching and sharing you valuable comments.
Poor record packaging and having to deal with sellere is the reason why I decided to stop collecting records. I was doing it for almost 10 years. I'd say in more than 90% of the time, the records I bought online were packaged in a quick careless manner. A damaged record sleeve cannot be fixed or replaced. If you buy a CD and the case is cracked, you can always get a replacement case. That's the difference between buying records and CDs. A lot of sellers don't get this.
"Prteach" it Brother Beaudry! I purchase around 500 albums a year from sellers on eBay and Discogs. I expect the occasional poor packaging from an eBay seller that doesn't normally sell record albums and that is why I go into my "how-to-package-record-albums-for-shipping" rant to those sellers. But Discogs is a site that primarily sells only rare vinyl and I am appalled at how many "sellers" just throw the album (vinyl enclosed within album cover) into a flimsy mailer and ship it off. I recently (today) received a 1st edition copy of Big Star #1 Record packaged that way. Luckily everything turned out fine on this one. In the course of a year I will have to return or have my money reimbursed on 40 to 50 albums a year due to split seams and poor packaging issues. Your video is very informative - album sellers on eBay and Discogs should have to watch this.
Yeah this was the first video I ever made on UA-cam and I did it as a tutorial for UA-cam shippers because I was in the exact same place you were getting so many damaged records from Poor eBay shippers thanks for your kind comments very much appreciated. by the way if you go back to the comment section I made another video and updated video it's much better please watch it I left a link there for you to follow cheers Ron also on my channel now I talked about different record pressings and how they sound I'd appreciate it if you could watch a few and let me know what you think
Glad to see someone showing how to properly package LP's. I have bought nearly 40 LP's through the mail. Most shipped in the inexpensive white box you showed and thankfully none have been damaged so far. One seller actually shipped me a record in a pizza box the record was secure and the box was grease free. Great vid!
Ron, thanks for showing the different types of LP shipping boxes you have in this 2nd video 'How to package and ship LP records safely' My worry with shipping is having the record cover corners protected so they aren't creased in transit. I once made cardboard corners from a design I found on google but it was to time consuming making these.
This is excellent, thank you. Very thorough and you actually tell us what boxes you use. A far cry from all of the other videos with people wrongly using priority boxes.
The generic white LP mailers are cut smaller than the jacket. 99% time the jacket corners are going to bend. a local cardboard place in my city cuts them at 13x13 inner dimensions (plenty of room for Tri/Gatefolds, bubble wrap & stiffeners w/ outside 1/4" bumpers (13.5x13.5x1.375 outside dimensions) i make my own stiffeners out of the boxes when i checkout at Costco lol
I am about to start selling records on ebay and I am so glad I found your helpful video. I definitely don't want to send any damaged records to buyers. Just can't afford to do that so might as well spend a little extra and time on packing correctly. Thanks for the tips.
I used to manage a bookstore and had custom boxes made as needed at a local box company, something in the range of 10-25 cents a box depending on size. I use a double boxing method when I can, A regular LP mailer from something incoming then a larger amazon style box around that. There is an example in a recent Vinyl Ritchie video, works well for me, if you have time to fold and tape that much.
Hi - great video. On your recommendations; #1 Amazon box - not a great experience on overseas shipping, particularly to/from UK, Italy, or Spain. Germany is typically no problem. The box is just not sturdy enough and most problems arise from creases on the cover than corner damage or seam splits. #2 Music Direct - looks great. I've had a few mailings with this type of box and re-used it myself. This is what Acoustic Sounds also uses for mailing. Works great, wish it was available. #3 Whiplash - Works great. I wish they sold in smaller quantities, 125 is a lot. Maybe you can buy the thousand and resell to your youtube fans (?!). I have also used SleeveCIty's ultimate mailer. Works great. If you catch a 15% discount code you can save some money but then with the stiffeners you'll end up paying $1.00- 1.50 per mailing which is not that far behind the cost of a whiplash box
+boolz22 ok thanks for the feedback the amazon box does not work well for overseas shipping. my only experience is USA shipping with great success. i don't sell that many records to purchase 1000 boxes 125 is all i can afford to purchase at one time as well
I just watched your videos on packaging and shipping LP records. I have recently come across some records which I am going to sell on eBay. Before listing I wanted to know how to ship so they would not be damaged. Thank you for the informative information to safely ship. Your a good man, Charlie Brown!
Hi Ron great video I wish people would take the same care as you do when posting vinyl I buy a lot of records from Amazon here in the UK they use a really good product no issues so far. I have never bought of Ebay I am very sceptical of sellers heard of a lot of horror stories regarding packaging I hope people take note of your video and apply it to sending there vinyl nice work Ron KEEP ROCKING.
Thanks Nick that is my hope as well folks will understand its not hard to ship records properly hey Nick thanks for your kind words and Rock on Bro!

I hated the original mainstream LP shipping box used by 98% of sellers (only because most don't know how to use them... some are starting to use Pizza boxes again..UG. These are good examples sir ! I invented a method of using boxes from Walmart - get 4 mailers out of their big $2.00 box - have to do some manual cutting but never had a LP damaged in 20 years in shipping. I used to use these particular boxes from Starbucks they used to throw away , but now they cut off the box flaps. Starbucks small boxes fit 45's perfectly.
Good info, thanks for the video. Had never thought about split seams with the record left in the cover. About to start listing much of my LP collection on ebay due to long term unemployment. Did record shows eons ago (1980s) as a seller. Have never had any problems with the venerable TLP3 box as a buyer as you have had, but most had stiffeners and or small bubble wrap. You started the video with Captain Beyonds first album (obviously not first pressing with 3d glue on) but that is still one of my favorite 1970's power rock albums of all time!
Good video Ron. I'll be ordering he latest boxes. I've been without vinyl music for 10 years. SO, lately I'm inventorying records and selling a few so far on ebay and Discogs. While I am just starting out, I want to minimize my selling expenses. This was very helpful. Also the packaging tips. I'd hate to lose a sale as a result of poor packaging. My collection is at about 2,00 records, most of which are NM condition. The rest are VG+ or better. Sure love the vinyl. I appreciate any other pointers or links you may have. All the best, Happy New Year!
Hi Ron, I really enjoyed your well-thought-out video. I also watched your video on grading records. After receiving so many misgraded records in the mail (esp on ebay), I started to wonder if I was being overly OCD or picky with my grading. But your video made me feel better that my assessments are on the same page as yours and I feel we are being totally reasonable! I totally agree with the way you ship the records. If I had anything to add on, I would say that it's important to add the padding, but you don't want to make it too tight. I've had some records come to me with ringwear because the packaging was too tight and the record edges indented on the album cover.
Ben Li Hi Ben thanks for your feedback, you usually get the record imprinting into the cover when records are stored improperly one on top of another in a big stack for a long time, not by being wrapped snugly for shipment. Remember you don't want the record moving around in the box. thanks for taking the time to let me know you are enjoying the videos I appreciate that. best regards Ron
I prefer to just fold the record in half and use a poly mailer! But really, appreciate the info on what to look for in packaging and box options, starting to a few of my LP's
I've been buying records online for years! It was only recently that I had a seller use a whiplash! I thanked him profusely!!! I'm sick and tired of sellers using cheap crappy thin mailers. I always tell them if I buy a record brand new or pay a lot for it, I better get it intact. A seam split = immediate dispute with my credit card issuer. Btw, Juno UK uses the worst mailers ever. I've repeatedly complained to them about it. They are a big online record store.
Great video! If the album you are selling is sealed, you obviously can't remove the record from the sleeve for shipping. What other precautions can you take to protect it from sliding in the sleeve? Thanks!
hey rockin ronnie, i like your video. i sell sealed records and i'm about to start venturing into opened records. i know how to play grade and most of my stuff is kept super minty any way but i am still a noob and i'm still confused as to why its safer to ship the LP out side the cover. also i use the white LP mailers always with 2 cardboard stiffeners per mailer and so i never fit more than 2 gatefolds or 3 flat cover LPs per mailer and when i send them they never shake. silent. i have had one incident in about 200 which was clearly postal mishandling where no amount of cardboard or foam would have stopped that crease. having said that i am thinking of upgrading to the whiplash mailers they seem worth it. i am on a mission to serve fantastic musical relics to super happy customers so price doesnt matter, its function and convenience. thank you for information and keep rockin
Mitchell Galinkin I have just had so many problems with folks using those when they ship me records now you have to admit the box that I found is better
Mitchell Galinkin I think the most important part is removing the record because it prevents seam splits like Ron says but also makes the cover lighter so it doesnt slam into corners and such. A strong box is the second most important to prevent bends, creases and mushed corners. Other than that bubble wrap and such isnt really needed as long as its all in a plastic outer sleeve. Although I still use it just for that extra sense of security.
hi ron, we have the same name, lol, your love of music and sound quality really shows, I have a mfsl jvc supervinyl reissue of the beatles abbey road I got when I was a teenager and only listened to a couple of times so the vinyl is in brand new condition, what is a fair price to ask for on ebay, would you like to buy it
I have the pro use series Japan 1/2 speed master so I am good on that one. I dont know what to value it at. You just have to go on ebay and see what they go for thanks for the offer Ron
Hey Ron, I'm starting a new record label, and we just ran an indiegogo campaign to get started with pressing our first run of 7" singles. While running the campaign, one of the things that I'm trying to get my head around the best way to ship records to all of our supporters who contributed to the campaign (as well as our customers going forward). Your videos have been VERY informative. My question is, for the whiplash cases, do they come in a 7" variety? Also, is there anything different that you'd do to ship a 7" records differently than a standard 12" lp? Very curious. Thanks, Chris
+Ron Beaudry (rockinroni) Excellent video!! I'm just starting out with Discogs and shipping the records was a huge concern for me especially since I'm into computers. Sadly enough I have and have received many times defected parts because of the shipping. Right now I'm starting to sell all my 45's. I have a HUGE collection. Can you recommend a good place and right size dimensions for Shipping 45's? I really want to my customers to me happy once they receive there package. Thank you in advance. I hope you see this.
sorry I haven't shipped any forty-fives but after watching the video you should understand the principles involved for my inner and outer sleeves I go to sleeve City they may have shipping boxes for 45 records thanks for watching
Thank you for this very good video on shipping LP's. I will be shipping a record album with 2 record set. I have a box that is 15 1/2" x 12 3/4" x 3 1/4 deep. How should I place the 2nd record in the wrapping/sleeve process? I have never done this before so instead of a plastic sleeve I hope that I can use Saran Cling Plus that gives extra tight hold. I can cut out stiffeners from used boxes. Look forward to your reply. Toni
Just make sure your records are in good inner sleeves and since you have an extra deep box put a stiffener in between the two LPS then you can wrap it with the cling-wrap but don't make it too tight because you can warp the record if it gets too hot
I just looked at the Whiplash Mailers and they look great. It does mention that no other shipping materials are required. Would you still recommend taking the vinyl record out of the jacket with the sleeve, and sandwiching it in between corrugated cardboard? Or is this truly unneccesary with these Whiplash mailers? Can you then keep the record(s) sealed/upopened?
i describe how i use the box in the video, what extra steps are necessary to keep the record from moving around in the box good news no stiffeners needed. sealed records are tricky make sure it is tight but not to tight or the heat in summer can warp the record.
my grandma passed away and left me her albums and im trying to figure out how to ebay list and ship. When I ask people for help locally they completely ingor my questions and want to buy them with out telling me anything. Im not going to sell them Kiss and the beetles with out knowing anything. Thats what brings me here. trying to figure out the best way to ship.
Most important thing about records besides content is condition In order to get a good money for records the records must be in near mint condition that means that the person who own them rarely played them for most people that's not true. I also have a video that says how I grade records it's pretty strict but it should give you some ideas. just go on EBay or discogs and look at the record you wanna sell try to figure out your condition and what they're selling for on that site. Selling records online have many pitfalls And it's a lot of work The records that are worth money are the very rare records that most people don't have that's why they're rare And it's only the Crazy collectors that even have some of that stuff And are willing to pay the price to get it but they're super fussy on condition as well.
Great video, Ron. Unfortunately, Whiplash doesn't seem to be shipping their mailers to Canada :( I'll keep searching for a good solution. I've hear people say "why don't you just buy a pizza box. They're about 12 inches". Any experience with that? WIll records even fit in a pizza box?
Seriously do you think I wanna go and find a bunch of cardboard and make all those boxes when I can buy a beautiful Box for A dollar making your own Box might be OK if your only shipping 1 or 2 record but I-ship many many records I buy the boxes a 125 at a time
For those that want to repurpose your cardboard & create your own record mailers check out the..vinylnuts..video..I don't precut my cardboard like he does..I just cut up mine per use..your welcome
Interested in selling that MFSL Thick as a Brick? I have searched high and low and can't find one. In your opinion does it sound better than a original first UK press?
Was curious what your thoughts were on people selling used records that are shrink wrapped. It appears like these go for more on eBay. Not sure why though.. These are used and if shrink wrapped then would be impossible to separate for shipping. Thanks
some people always wanted new and sealed record sealed records are worth more money to collectors but they presente a challenge to shippers you can always take Saran Wrap and wrap the record up really good on the ends and maybe put some extra masking tape around the ends to help ensure the record doesn't come through there cover
I’m presently setting up to sell vinyl on Discogs and I will only be selling in the contiguous USA. I will be focusing on a few high-end reissues that I have. Are you confident in using media mail for all of your shipments or are there certain instances when you use a more expensive USPS method. Thank you for the very helpful videos. Chris
Media mail works great that's why you have to package properly to be competitive. Media mail is the only way. Good luck I hope it works out great For you
I'm sorry if I didn't explain it properly in the video but if you leave the record inside of the record cover it will split the seams because it a bouncing around inside of the album cover. not always but it's a good precaution
Hi Ron, Great stuff you talk about. My question is will 13 x13 cardboard protectors you talk about in your other video, will they fit the whiplash box whplp01?
+Kevin Stone no the inside dimension of the wiplash mailer is 12x12 cardboard stiffeners are not needed with the wiplash mailer because of the bumpers. so as I say in the video you save on money
Thanks for this helpful video. I only need a dozen or so however so do you have any suggestions for where to purchase only a few that won't cost a fortune?
Thanks for the great video, Ron! Thinking about splits, I wonder how much of a problem they would be if sellers simply replaced the old, worn record sleeves with new ones prior to shipping. The LP edge isn't likely to cut through a new sleeve, is it? And a new sleeve isn't likely to split the seam, is it? Also, with tight packing along the thin dimension, the LP isn't likely to slide much, further limiting the chance of splitting, right? Any thoughts?
Do your shipping methods protect them from warping in a summer shipment? I have great concerns about that. Any tips? 'Love your videos and your taste in music!
Thanks for sharing the info. Ia m also from Canada, so this type of box is not an option for me. I need to find a way to get the weight down for 1 LP below 500 grams. With the 13 x 13 x 2 box weight is above that and my shipping costs are too hi. Anyone have and idea?
Ron, great video. you package very well. If someone were shipping 33 1/3 size records, would you be able to use the same LP boxes? Would the stiffeners still keep them from sliding? Also, say you have an LP record still sealed and unopened, how do you ship it since you can't take it out of the sleeve during shipping? Keep up the awesome and helpful videos.
Aaron Justesen this video is for shipping 33.3 rpm records or LP long play records for sealed records follow same procedure make sure you wrap them well thanks for watching glad you liked the video
Hi, Ron, I discovered your channel through your previous record packaging video on the Ebay support page (when I first started selling records) and since then your channel has been my favourite on youtube when it comes to vinyl related videos. I have received tremendous feedback since then so thank you! I managed to buy 100 pizza boxes for around £20 but the only problem with that is that they count as a medium parcel and Royal Mail (I'm from the UK) recently raised the prices on posting medium parcels shortly after I purchased them. It probably costs me around £7 in postage + packing to send a record in the UK but I just charge a bit less otherwise people will be put off on buying my cheaper records. I'm curious as to why you don't separate your inner sleeve/record from the main record sleeve and place both separately into a poly outer when it comes to the records that you don't plan on selling (like how you explained sending records in this and the other video)? It gives you easier access and prevents ring wear/seam splits and it's also handy for when you get those card inner sleeves that you want to keep but not use. I'm sure you already know that so I'm just curious. Thank you!
thank you very much for watching I am very happy to hear you enjoy my videos!! Postage? mail rates went up here a while back as well and it cost me a little more to send than I receive now, why I don't separate my inner sleeve/record from the main record sleeve? its just a habit no reason I have been doing it for almost 50 years so for me the record belongs in the cover. I don't mind placing them in taking them out. just like, I like getting up after the side is over and flipping the record over its part of what I am comfortable with.
+Jonette & Gary Lee these are the ones i use www.sleevecityusa.com/ultimate-outer-2-5-pack-of-50-p/9224.htm they have other record inner and outer sleeves here
Thanks. Having a hard time finding 10" boxes with the same level of faulty as this 12" box. Was wondering if it would be okay to use the 12" box and just add extra protection/cushioning to keep the record from sliding.
you have a keen eye my friend the answer is yes, so stay tuned. This is my second video with this theme. I can do 10 more and then I will have to buy some more promo photos i guess. thanks again for watching
Could you bubble wrap it tight and made a box yourself I am selling some that are pretty cheap but I wanting make sure they have no damage from my part to him
The cost of the boxes at $1.00 or more probably works if you are selling high ticket items. But what about the records that cost below $10.00? Priority mail seems more practical if packaged properly, Nice presentation though.
The video is great lots of info one important part is that price for a record today they start on $1 to $1000 and everything in between most of them are between $ 1 and $10 and with those prices shipping is not going to be real good on ebay and ebay is the flea market online so you can't spect to much out of that only if the customer is willing to pay an extra $2 wich I find out that collectors are the cheapest bastards in the trade they want quality on everything but there are not willing to pay extra for something their love is like I love my dog but I feed him crappy food because is cheap the recycle industry is destroying vinyl records real fast in a few years lots of them will be worth a fortune last year 2017 more then 10 million records got BURN not recycle BURN with garvich then is the recycle co manufacturing bracelets and craft
Other than some grammar, you couldn't have said that any better. If you expect a 10 LP to be sent to your home in the upmost quality condition. Collectors need to pay the shipping cost.
yes but if someone MASH/BEAT the bottom center of the box will mash the bottom center of the record artwork, same for center top (I know that not happens a lot but some mail workers mash the packages), so if all 4 sides had bumpers will be great, but I got your point, your packing is better than many sellers use.
+Sebastian Spatafore I agree if you had four bumpers it would be better but I packed a lot of records with these boxes have had zero problems all the records get there undamaged. the damage always occurs on the corners or seam splits from poor Packaging I think part of the fault is the automated assembly lines the packages go down that's why they always get the dings on the corners
That's the thing that has me scratching my head about the Whiplash. The bumpers give great edge protection on 2 sides only. What about the other 2 sides? I can see, though, that those 2 little corner flaps that fold in would keep the edge of the cover maybe 3/16" in from the edge of the mailer which helps. They should modify the design a tad so as to make those tabs longer with a crease in the middle. Then you fold the tab back over itself to thicken that space along the edge. It wouldn't provide as much space as those thick bumpers, but it would be better than what they have now. (Yes, the box would have to be a bit longer in one direction to provide for that.) I read Ron's comments, though. If he said he has had zero problems, I guess you can't get any better than that. Ultimately, that's what you're going for.
It would be nice if someone would just explain how to package the record album without lecturing. I don’t want to hear all the stories. Just give me the proper way to package my LPs for shipping.. that’s it. Wow.
when are you going to post your video of you comparing different reissues of the beatles on vinyl, your opinion of vinyl sound quality has great credibility, what I have heard of the 2014 mono vinyl the sound quality is phenomenal, sounds like you're at the studio while they are recording the albums, if anything the sound quality is too much - you can hear the mistakes, you can hear their voices straining sometimes, you can even hear them cough on a song, about 30 seconds into norwegian wood you can hear someone cough, the 2014 mono vinyl is such an exact replica of the beatles recording in the studio that the beatles sound human, the music isn't as symphonic, I keep checking your channel here to hear your review of the 2014 mono vinyl compared to Japanese pressings and mfsl, the blue box and red box, was a big disappointment the latest stereo box set was pressed from a copy of the original master instead of directly from the master tape
Wow nice to hear your comments on the new Mono box, Boy!, that really lights a fire for me to make the purchase. I have just been buying to many expensive records and selling to few. so Paypal is down, but i have it on my very short list
Thank you for sharing, now I'm scared to try and sell LP's, but its so good to know.

+manixpc thank you glad you enjoyed the video
very good video.only wish more people like me and you cared about lp's
The generic white LP mailers are cut smaller than the jacket. 99% time the jacket corners are going to bend. a local cardboard place in my city cuts them at 13x13 inner dimensions (plenty of room for Tri/Gatefolds, bubble wrap & stiffeners w/ outside 1/4" bumpers (13.5x13.5x1.375 outside dimensions)
i make my own stiffeners out of the boxes when i checkout at Costco lol
I am about to start selling records on ebay and I am so glad I found your helpful video. I definitely don't want to send any damaged records to buyers. Just can't afford to do that so might as well spend a little extra and time on packing correctly. Thanks for the tips.
you are welcome glad i could help
Just really good, I am shipping an LP for the first sale I ever made on Amazon. :)
good luck in your selling bro, thanks for watching, hope i could help
sure did help
How is your record business doing?
I used to manage a bookstore and had custom boxes made as needed at a local box company, something in the range of 10-25 cents a box depending on size. I use a double boxing method when I can, A regular LP mailer from something incoming then a larger amazon style box around that. There is an example in a recent Vinyl Ritchie video, works well for me, if you have time to fold and tape that much.
Thank you so much! I just shipped a record and I feel really good about the chances it will arrive. I followed your advice to a T!

You started the video with Captain Beyonds first album (obviously not first pressing with 3d glue on) but that is still one of my favorite 1970's power rock albums of all time!
thanks Bro Captain Beyonds first album still one of my top 5 lps of all time love every note
I find the shipment is more compact if I take a hammer to them first. Then they can be folded up into a very compact shape.
😅
I've been buying records online for years! It was only recently that I had a seller use a whiplash! I thanked him profusely!!! I'm sick and tired of sellers using cheap crappy thin mailers. I always tell them if I buy a record brand new or pay a lot for it, I better get it intact. A seam split = immediate dispute with my credit card issuer. Btw, Juno UK uses the worst mailers ever. I've repeatedly complained to them about it. They are a big online record store.
Good thing you have the link for the mailers, sweeeeeet.
Great video! If the album you are selling is sealed, you obviously can't remove the record from the sleeve for shipping. What other precautions can you take to protect it from sliding in the sleeve? Thanks!
You can wrap it up with Saran Wrap get it more secure in there then make sure it doesn't move around in the box of course
hey rockin ronnie, i like your video. i sell sealed records and i'm about to start venturing into opened records. i know how to play grade and most of my stuff is kept super minty any way but i am still a noob and i'm still confused as to why its safer to ship the LP out side the cover. also i use the white LP mailers always with 2 cardboard stiffeners per mailer and so i never fit more than 2 gatefolds or 3 flat cover LPs per mailer and when i send them they never shake. silent. i have had one incident in about 200 which was clearly postal mishandling where no amount of cardboard or foam would have stopped that crease. having said that i am thinking of upgrading to the whiplash mailers they seem worth it. i am on a mission to serve fantastic musical relics to super happy customers so price doesnt matter, its function and convenience. thank you for information and keep rockin
I've sold 1000s of lp using the standard lp mailer. Not once has there been a problem. I do take the disc out of the cover and also use bubble wrap.
Mitchell Galinkin I have just had so many problems with folks using those when they ship me records now you have to admit the box that I found is better
Yes, for sure, your found box is quite good. Unless I have problems in the future I will consider another box. Thanks.
Great tips, Ron - anyone would be lucky to buy from you since you take such care.
thanks Bro!
Hey Ron,
I'm starting a new record label, and we just ran an indiegogo campaign to get started with pressing our first run of 7" singles.
Thanks,
Chris
Prices sure have come up for these. Now costs about $2 a piece for Whiplash mailers.
Damn, I want that Original Mastering record . . . .
Hi Ron. Who manufacturers the last box shown, the one you ended up using
Thank you
Thank you for this very good video on shipping LP's.
What if the record of sealed you don’t wanna open it up?
Great video, do you have any information to share on how to send 45's?
@@RocknRonni Thanks!
@@RocknRonni Do these whiplash boxes fit inside a record crate?
my grandma passed away and left me her albums and im trying to figure out how to ebay list and ship.
Have you ever tried the Whiplash V03 compared to the V01 in the video?
No I don't know about the vo3 the whiplash vo1 the one in the video works really well for me
@@RocknRonni You can now purchase only 25 of the V03's as compared to a minimum of 125 of the V01. The downside is the shipping cost is the same.
@@scottopus ok cool thanks for the info bro
Hi. Where did you get the black boxes from, if you don't mind me asking.
Great video! What size do you cut the bubble wrap/foam when you are wrapping? Also where can I get the Japanese sticky bag you use for shipping?
Great video, Ron. Unfortunately, Whiplash doesn't seem to be shipping their mailers to Canada :(
I'll keep searching for a good solution. I've hear people say "why don't you just buy a pizza box. They're about 12 inches". Any experience with that? WIll records even fit in a pizza box?
also where can I get these 13 x 13 all made up and the clear plastic sleeves you use without the sticky. Thanks Kevin
+Kevin Stone these are the outer sleeves i use for my collection

thank you for your information... I am also new to shipping LP's on ebay and its a scary thing to do!!! Can you use saran wrap to secure the LP's
+Ruth Fish yes saran wrap is fine any thing just don't make it to tight it can warp the record. sorry for the delay some how missed your comment
Seriously..u should check out how to make record shipping cartons on some of the other yt channels
That Captain Beyond record rules.
you are correct top 5 all time record thanks for watching and you comment
i have a couple other videos where I talk about the record
Was curious what your thoughts were on people selling used records that are shrink wrapped. It appears like these go for more on eBay. Not sure why though.. These are used and if shrink wrapped then would be impossible to separate for shipping. Thanks
some people always wanted new and sealed record sealed records are worth more money to collectors but they presente a challenge to shippers
you can always take Saran Wrap and wrap the record up really good on the ends and maybe put some extra masking tape around the ends to help ensure the record doesn't come through there cover
once again, a great informative video Ron, appriciate it, Thanks.
you are most welcome thanks for watching
I’m presently setting up to sell vinyl on Discogs and I will only be selling in the contiguous USA. I will be focusing on a few high-end reissues that I have. Are you confident in using media mail for all of your shipments or are there certain instances when you use a more expensive USPS method. Thank you for the very helpful videos. Chris
Media mail works great that's why you have to package properly to be competitive.
Media mail is the only way.
Good luck I hope it works out great For you
Great Video, but I have one question. Why do you take the record out and ship outside the album cover?
I'm sorry if I didn't explain it properly in the video but if you leave the record inside of the record cover it will split the seams because it a bouncing around inside of the album cover.
not always but it's a good precaution
@@RocknRonni Thanks Ron, I figured that out when I went back and reviewed your video. Best
Doesn't the inside dimension have to be more than 12x12? A cover is about 12-1/2 square, right?
But where can you buy them lp mailer boxes from tho? Do I have to order them as well, it's like shipping inception.
The Whiplash boxes cost $32 just to ship ($110 for a box of 125). Is there anyway to lower the shipping costs?
What about to package sealed recoreds?
Thanks for this helpful video. I only need a dozen or so however so do you have any suggestions for where to purchase only a few that won't cost a fortune?
x2
Thanks for the great video, Ron! Thinking about splits, I wonder how much of a problem they would be if sellers simply replaced the old, worn record sleeves with new ones prior to shipping. The LP edge isn't likely to cut through a new sleeve, is it? And a new sleeve isn't likely to split the seam, is it? Also, with tight packing along the thin dimension, the LP isn't likely to slide much, further limiting the chance of splitting, right? Any thoughts?
so many questions...
Do your shipping methods protect them from warping in a summer shipment? I have great concerns about that. Any tips? 'Love your videos and your taste in music!
+Donna Petty no warping just make sure the records are not wrapped tightly if you distort the record even slightly the heat will warp the record
Hi Ron, How much do you pay to ship one album using media mail packed this way? It must be over a pound, correct? Thanks for the great instruction!
Rob Becker yes over 1 pound 1pound 8 ounces about postage with tracking is 3.20 box 1.20 other items i collect for free so $4.40
Thanks for sharing the info. Ia m also from Canada, so this type of box is not an option for me. I need to find a way to get the weight down for 1 LP below 500 grams. With the 13 x 13 x 2 box weight is above that and my shipping costs are too hi. Anyone have and idea?
Christian Simard Hello well now you know to ship safely So you need to find a box as I did if you can find a Amazon type box it may work for you
Ron, great video. you package very well.
Ty again.for updated video & tutorial..U THE MAN
Thank you Alex glad you found the video
Hi, Ron,
I discovered your channel through your previous record packaging video on the Ebay support page (when I first started selling records) and since then your channel has been my favourite on youtube when it comes to vinyl related videos.
I don't mind placing them in taking them out. just like, I like getting up after the side is over and flipping the record over its part of what I am comfortable with.
thanks for the videos! what would you recommend selling new sealed vinyl? as I don't want to open them
Ask the buyer to be opened and shipped outside of the cardboard jacket.
Found it .ty im start watching it now
im selling records for $5 each, should i be using the box you use?
Where can one purchase the plastic sleeve you put the album in?
+Jonette & Gary Lee these are the ones i use
www.sleevecityusa.com/ultimate-outer-2-5-pack-of-50-p/9224.htm
they have other record inner and outer sleeves here
125 is a little much for me since selling lp's is not my primary things to sell, i would need to buy 5-10 boxes at a time .
Thank you for making these videos! Any suggestions for 10" records?
same principles apply depends on the box
Thanks. Having a hard time finding 10" boxes with the same level of faulty as this 12" box. Was wondering if it would be okay to use the 12" box and just add extra protection/cushioning to keep the record from sliding.
you got it just add extra protection/cushioning to keep the record from sliding. now record is even better protected cheers
But do you still have broken records received when the customer
Cathey Ramsey no never a problem no broken records no nothing they get to my customers in the same condition I shipped them in
nice packaging, I will think about ordering some if I ever get into selling online. Does the picture on the wall change every video? cheers Ron :)
you have a keen eye my friend the answer is yes, so stay tuned. This is my second video with this theme. I can do 10 more and then I will have to buy some more promo photos i guess. thanks again for watching
Could you bubble wrap it tight and made a box yourself I am selling some that are pretty cheap but I wanting make sure they have no damage from my part to him
Can i ship vinyl records through First class mail? or is it too heavy for first class?
Myron Ganes first class is slow and cost to much use media mail
Great video, thank you!
Thanks for making this video!
i have a few questions is there anyway i can communicate with you ron?
this box is THICK AS A BRICK!
The cost of the boxes at $1.00 or more probably works if you are selling high ticket items. But what about the records that cost below $10.00? Priority mail seems more practical if packaged properly, Nice presentation though.
Priority mail cost $6 media mail cost $3, I like media mail. They both get tossed around the same
The video is great lots of info one important part is that price for a record today they start on $1 to $1000 and everything in between most of them are between $ 1 and $10 and with those prices shipping is not going to be real good on ebay and ebay is the flea market online so you can't spect to much out of that only if the customer is willing to pay an extra $2 wich I find out that collectors are the cheapest bastards in the trade they want quality on everything but there are not willing to pay extra for something their love is like I love my dog but I feed him crappy food because is cheap the recycle industry is destroying vinyl records real fast in a few years lots of them will be worth a fortune last year 2017 more then 10 million records got BURN not recycle BURN with garvich then is the recycle co manufacturing bracelets and craft
Best comment here.
Other than some grammar, you couldn't have said that any better. If you expect a 10 LP to be sent to your home in the upmost quality condition. Collectors need to pay the shipping cost.
where can I get cardboard boxes for records with 4 SIDES BUMPERS??? not just 2 sides! (not make sense just protect 2 sides, we need 4 sides)
the way it works is you are protecting all 4 corners because the 4 corners are not touching the outside of the box. because of the 2 bumpers
yes but if someone MASH/BEAT the bottom center of the box will mash the bottom center of the record artwork, same for center top (I know that not happens a lot but some mail workers mash the packages), so if all 4 sides had bumpers will be great, but I got your point, your packing is better than many sellers use.
(Yes, the box would have to be a bit longer in one direction to provide for that.)
I read Ron's comments, though. If he said he has had zero problems, I guess you can't get any better than that. Ultimately, that's what you're going for.
rad! much appreciated
Thanks...
I wouldn't use that second package to mail an album.
It would be nice if someone would just explain how to package the record album without lecturing. I don’t want to hear all the stories. Just give me the proper way to package my LPs for shipping.. that’s it. Wow.
when are you going to post your video of you comparing different reissues of the beatles on vinyl, your opinion of vinyl sound quality has great credibility, what I have heard of the 2014 mono vinyl the sound quality is phenomenal, sounds like you're at the studio while they are recording the albums, if anything the sound quality is too much - you can hear the mistakes, you can hear their voices straining sometimes, you can even hear them cough on a song, about 30 seconds into norwegian wood you can hear someone cough, the 2014 mono vinyl is such an exact replica of the beatles recording in the studio that the beatles sound human, the music isn't as symphonic, I keep checking your channel here to hear your review of the 2014 mono vinyl compared to Japanese pressings and mfsl, the blue box and red box,
was a big disappointment the latest stereo box set was pressed from a copy of the original master instead of directly from the master tape
Wow nice to hear your comments on the new Mono box, Boy!, that really lights a fire for me to make the purchase. I have just been buying to many expensive records and selling to few. so Paypal is down, but i have it on my very short list
Suggestion need to write clearly printed-fragile do not fold before mailing ,perhaps take it to church to receive prayer ,a dash of holy water etc…
