So one thing I didn't really mention in the video that I should have: The cave area has the murmuring of spirits within it. Basically, the haunted room noise an uncleared room has that goes away once you suck up all the ghosts. The courtyard doesn't have this, but the underground area does. The unfortunate thing is I'm not sure how to trigger any ghosts to appear or if any even exist. Based off of mechanics in other rooms though, there should be a clear function of some kind that would remove this music once activated. The room can be force "cleared", but that skips everything in-between. So yeah, it's pretty odd!
Huh
time to go check enemyinfo
Nice.
Did you watch Matpat's Film/Game Theory videos?
SwankyBox Hi! I used to hack the game and for ghosts to appear certain conditions have to be met. First and foremost there are files for each room that lists what enemies spawn in that room and where. (This also sets how they’re triggered to spawn, if they respawn after disappearing and their chance of spawning after entering the room or if they’re inside a piece of furniture.) if they’re set to be triggered after a cutscene then that has to be set in the file for the room, same goes for other many different and sometimes hardcoaded conditions.
This room however, had an empty entry. I remember seeing the file for this room and being very much confused. (The files also list certain objects to be spawned and there was nothing, not even triggers.) looks like this room was completely wiped.
I really hope the E3 2001 build of Luigi's Mansion gets leaked one day.
Dash120z Same, there was so many different things in that old build. But a lot of the game was blocked off in the demo. So maybe a copy from Nintendo could get leaked, and maybe the mystery of the creepy Luigi face at the end of the beta trailer could be solved.
totally, watching the beta version almost feels like a different game!
@@alphabluu It already was. If you're talking about *Luigi has 24 hours to save Mario or you get Depressed Luigi game over* that never existed. The game over screen was the same as the final on E3 once Luigi reached 0 HP, and once you ran out of time, E. Gadd would pop up on the GBH when 1:30 AM was displayed on the clock and send the player to the title screen, presumably to let other people give the demo a try.
(Ouch, didn't even realize that I typed in "Mario has 24 hours to save Mario". It was almost midnight and I had to go to school. I was really tired when I posted this lol)
@@alphabluu This is like the old Halo 2 E3 Demo.
It was mostly scripted and running on an unstable prototype xbox original. A lot of the footage may have been scripted not actually playable.
Me with the spaceworld demo for sunshine ;;
When I was a child, I was obsessed with the idea of being able to go outside the mansion. It's almost like the outside area was holy to me in a sense. I dreamed about being able to pass through those doors and see what was out there. I wanted to take shelter in Egadd's lab and plot what my next move should be, I wanted to explore boo woods and find secret areas, I wanted the beta elements added back into the game. I'm 21 now and I'm still very in love with the idea of a Luigi's Mansion "URA" so to speak. I just love this game so much and I want to be able to continue my adventures that I started as a kid. Dark Moon was nice, and 3 looks like it'll be just a continuation of that, but I would love a true exploration based Luigi's Mansion remake/sequel.
I want to have actual fear in luigis mansion,i want the boss elh,i want a beta restoration mod for luigis mansion
Eric?
@@lettuceman483 a beta restoration is in the works. you should look up luigis mansion beta restoration. I kid you not, this amazing modding team has added back old boss ghosts, such as the chef ghost, and all of the old mechanics and elements. its freaking amazing. its releasing very soon.
... did me and you have the same childhood? Rock on bro 🤣🤙
yeah dude
An unused Cave makes sense
The Bats kinda help confirm this.
As Does Mr.Bones.
Imagine how creepy this game could of been.
Zeus The Fox remember the original game over screen? Yeah, I wish I didn't.

It's also possible it was planned to be a shortcut since a lot of parts of the mansion loop around, but the graveyard kitchen routes a pretty roundabout dead end.
Luigi’s Mansion was always one of my favorite games to play when I was a kid. I can’t wait for Luigi’s Mansion 3!!!
I’m excited too although I grew up more with Dark Moon.
Same. Although I really hope its more like the first game than dark moon. Although based on the slight bit we have seen its more dark moon esc. Dark moon was dissapointing for me. It had a less gritty, more cartoony artstyle that ruined the atmosphere of the mansions. And it fealt way more restrictive with its level selecting compared to the origanal
Its already finished
Yeah and I was not disappointed 3 was awesome

God, I wish they remained more loyal to the original tone of the game in these sequels...
All in the art direction. LM1 was spooky and really had you on edge, even if the opponents were just "Boo, a ghost!", but it was treated as vicious as any zombie or monster attack from M rated titled. Dark Moon became too segmented and tedious to be considered spooky, along with the ghost designs, and LM3, while having a better structure, is too well lit and not menacing (so far).
They're too cartoonish, first will always be the best in my opinion, I'm not impressed at all with the later ones
Maybe if we're lucky, we'll get a spooky Waluigi game
Well the sequels weren’t developed by Nintendo. They we’re done by Next Level Games.
@@GabiShy Not only that, and I mean, what other concepts could be all too interesting for 2 other games in the original more realistic style? The more cartoony style gives the devs and artists more freedom to design interesting, unique areas.
I’d give anything to get my hands on the beta version of this game. As well as knowledge on everything that was scrapped.
Even Not getting it😎
donaldthescottishtwin (DTST) If you gave your hands, you wouldn't be able to get your hands on it
From what I heard there was around 50 beta versions accidently released, and since Nintendo asked for the owners to destroy them as they weren't supposed to exist, less that 3 exist now.
ugh
donaldthescottishtwin (DTST) Anything? Hehehe
3:00 That's not how people program 3D games. The camera always follows the player however the angle of the camera can be fixed in certain areas. When Luigi is out of bounds the camera simply defaults to Luigi.
One of my top 10 games of all time. Played it through 100% a total of 36 times :D. I remember playing it on Christmas day, and parents asking me to pause it for 15minutes to open presents.

This was definitely one of Nintendo's masterpieces. Very fluid and captivating game
The fact that you did this and still are working with Luigi's mansion makes me so happy, I've been wondering if there was always more to the first Luigi's mansion. I want them to remaster it, the new ones are not the same as the old one
uh...there is a remaster on the 3DS
For the switch would be nice
Dude, this video just made me smile. I haven't play or see anything of Luigi's Mansion since the early 2000.
Luigi’s mansion came out in 2001...
so it's impossible to 100% this game neat
Cathy Bates-Casdorph 100 likes for your 100%.
SxltyBoi make that 101 for Donkey Kong 64 and Metroid Prime 2 101% completion.

My old copy of luigi's mansion is nearly scratched beyond use, but not for what I call usual reasons. In some places the hallways didn't load the visuals, (Collision was still there. It usually fixed itself busted shortly after.) Cut-scenes that I could actually reach either didn't begin or took an abnormally long time to start, and I even managed to move in egad's lab for a brief moment before the game locked up. Never figured out how it wore down in this particular way over the years.
Edited because I found a video I took proving the collision existed and needed to change the comment to reflect this.
Post the video!
Every Copy of Luigis Mansion is personalized?
It was actually already confirmed that Luigi's Mansion was going to have underground areas that would change as the game progressed. Also, the game isn't confirmed to have necessarily started on the N64. It was said that concepts and ideas were being planned during the N64 era, but it was never said to have started development on N64.
0:16 your voice goes very well with the background music
So so much lol
Can't unhear, cool.
A free exploration Luigi's Mansion would be a dream. But I don't think those two rooms hint to anything like this. Most likely they would've been just a few more rooms to the outside area that were cut due to time constrains or to make the graveyard and courtyard passages less time consuming for the player.
Wait... Elh wouldve fit PERFECTLY in this unused cave.
I agree!
I was waiting for someone to bring up, Elh.

To me, the obvious answer for both, or at least the first, is that if you were able to go to E Gadd's lab on your own, they were just alternate pathways around the mansion instead of having to backtrack through it every time. Initially full of ghosts, you had to clear them, then they would essentially act as shortcuts. I mean, if they took you to other areas, why would they full remove those areas but not the pathways to them? It doesn't make sense. But blocking off those pathways because the idea of returning to the lab manually was cut out would make more sense
0:45 I'm assuming luigi really likes that ladder.
luigi's mansion was only considered for the n64 but was quickly moved to the gamecube due to technical limitations with lighting. there is likely no engine for the n64.
Incorrect, Luigi's mansion was being thought up in the n64 era, but wasn't even considered to be for the n64
There's one thing I've been wondering about this game for a while. You know how, dispersed throughout the mansion, there are portraits of some of the portrait ghosts from when they were alive? For example, in the study room, you can see what seems to be a picture of Neville from when he was living. Same with Lydia, Chauncey, Slim Bankshot, and several others. But I'm wondering...what if there are more pictures of the ghosts from when they were living, and they're just less obvious? What if some of the more minor pictures of people throughout the mansion are actually pictures of other portrait ghosts from when they were alive? For instance, in the hidden room, there are pictures that look like they could be of Melody Pianissima and Mrs. Whirlinda from when they were living. I mean, I know that's most likely not the case, but I still can't help but wonder...
A deleted cave? Is it a Hazy Maze Cave where you can Watch For Rolling Rocks in 0.5 A Presses?

i wouldnt say it was a cave.. but instead a spooky path through the woods.. you did mention this though.. but this is why it feels like a hallway/cave.. but this aside..
could you imagine a more openish world luigis mansion? that would have been so great.. its still one of my favorite games of all time.. but this would have set it up as the best imo
One thing you left out is that the fence could have been stretched out to provide extra detail. Many developers either stretch objects out on accident or for extra detail. Just ask Sheezes.
Shesez is a scumbag. Sick of hearing about him.
How come?
All you guys need to cover your eyes lol 0:48

This is what we call *insanity* being in a mansion for days drove poor Luigi mad and regrets everything he did up until this very point!
Hey Luigi what's the hold up
Oml
I cannot say how happy it makes me, that more is still being discovered. Good job!
It would've been awesome to have a part of the game where you explore Boo Woods! I could imagine having a whole part about trying to get through the woods, potentially finding a portrait ghost out there, and following a tunnel system that looped around to the graveyard.
man this game is a gold mine love how you keep finding things like this
It's either a screwed up camera control sector that the developers left there, or an unused room
It would make sense that they would at least at one point make it kind of free roam ala Mario64 since it was Luigi's first true game! I too would of enjoyed a more free flowing exploration of the game, also it was a missed opportunity to have a section in the woods plus having a graveyard farther away from the house would make more sense even if it is a haunted mansion lol
Imagine if this was where EHL was found.
Could have been the pathway to Elh the scrapped boss.
My thought is that boo woods was supposed to have all the boos from the boolossus fight and was supposed to be something like going to the woods to suck up boos and weaken their defense, or maybe the boolossus fight took place in the woods as a sub boss type thing. But time constraints led them to cut it. This is backed up by the existence of the ehl model, showing that maybe the 3rd area boss was supposed to have a more powerful bogmire type fight
_But are there diamonds inside?_
I can hear the ghostly murmur of spirits in the area but haven't been able to make any appear. So, perhaps!
SwankyBox ...
SwankyBox I can’t tell if this is a joke or not
@@12luma I thought it might be a minecraft joke or something else, but then I remembered there are actually diamonds/gems in Luigi's Mansion that get spawned by speedy spirits that could raise the max score.
SwankyBox yeah, I knew he was talking about Minecraft, but didn’t know if you thought of Minecraft too.
Luigi’s Mansion is literally my favorite game of all time.
Ayyy same here
Once you notice that he ends every sentence on the same note it cannot be unheard.
You have forever cursed me
I could binge every single swankybox vídeo all day long, love his vids
Maybe is wasn’t supposed to be a graveyard but instead a crypt
I think it was another boss ghost room in the basement or a hidden treasure room
I wonder how much of these rooms could be restored, but it's already crazy how there's enough evidence in them to guess this much about them, it's really cool!
Who remembers mario party 2 horrorland? Those woods could of lead to horrorland
Yesss dude!
It's great to see how much Luigi's Mansion is appreciated nowadays. I haven't played it for ages though. I really need to play this game again.
I love this game just as much as you do. Your videos just make me love the game even more. I do like the idea that these areas are unused rooms that they didn’t finish or even had time to. Who knows. Great video man!
I imagine the Graveyard was moved to be directly beside the Boneyard for the sake of aiding in player progression. It being there lets the player know that there's a area nearby to be explored. When a player has exhausted all options to progress during the second act, the yet to be explored Graveyard lets you know there's more to be done in that area.
Had the graveyard been located in some other part of the map, or secluded away, there's a good chance the player may be utterly unaware of its existence, should they have missed the hidden tunnel route or what have you, it could have led to players being lost and unable to figure out where to go next.
I love Luigi's Mansion and I still wish it would've been made so you can explore around the front of the mansion, like how you can explore around the front of the mansions in Dark Moon! And it would have made the graveyard so much more creepy if it was more in a isolated area....
I really hope a Luigi's Mansion with more exploring like that comes out one day!
I went 15 years without realizing you can watch the trailer for Pikmin in the options menu for Luigi's Mansion.
0:47 looks like he's having fun...😂
I so want to see Luigi’s mansion full beta I’m a sucker for lost media
I can't express how much I'd like to see the betas of Mario Sunshine and luigi's mansions.
The beta footage always looks so puzzling.
Seriously, luigi falling down the stairs would have been awesome to see in the actual game.
Yeah, still waiting for the day I can explore the old Delfino Plaza
People should start making mods for lugia mansion where they make entirely different areas out of the game
Definitely, I can only imagine what or how big the mansion can be, that or make different mansions, props, or ghosts entirely!
But what I'd be more excited for would be the free exploration it could give us and I'd most certainly would love exploring the woods. (That or just make a woods only mod)
@@unkoire2649 I'd love to see a hack of luigi's mansion that takes place inside stuff like a giant cave, or ghost town
@@SpecterPaladin It's not that easy, y'know. Spacecats did get a custom map working, but as for the rest of us, we still gotta look further into/do more testing with the tools we currently have access to. Some users have tried using the collision converter/OBJ2BIN tools, but so far, we didn't get actually *working* results.
"Lugia Mansion" has given me a great mental image of Lugia dressed as Luigi while wandering around in the mansion.
@@Kimairan nO
6 minutes in and i just now realized that luigi isnt green
I know SageOfMirrors on Twitter kind of debunked the unused area theory, but I did just want to say that Luigi’s Mansion was NEVER on the Nintendo 64. Even the SpaceWorld 2000 demo ran on GameCube hardware.
Yeah, while a lot of the initial planning was made with the N64 in mind, the game itself never ran on it.
TD RollinsR I don’t think it was planned for N64 at all honestly.
0:47 uh Luigi...I think you got a little too..personal with that ladder
I'm immediately gonna assume that it's either a cut cave, cut forest, or just in case someone decided to break out of bounds for no reason
Or climbing E Gadd's ladder would just be equal to selecting the "Go to mansion" prompt.
Basically just start the cutscene like normal
I agree with you about the graveyard path, but I feel like the extended courtyard room was likely just the courtyard and that at some point the map was redesigned and the entrance you go through at the right end of the final courtyard was not where the back door was originally.
Considering that this cave connects the Boneyard & Graveyard, it's possible that the developers simply included it as a temporary way of reaching the graveyard for testing purposes while the intended route was still being worked on.
Though it is still fun to imagine how this could have been used while the game was still in development.
If a prototype of Luigi's Mansion is ever found, such as the Space World 2000 build, I hope that it's in a condition that the Data would still be salvageable.
from what I've heard Demo discs for Gamecube games are very susceptible to scratches as they were never intended to be used for more that just the event they were made for, so even if you try to buff scratches off of them you might wind up erasing whole chunks of data.
If anyone finds a Gamecube Prototype disc, be it Luigi's Mansion or any other game, please be careful with it.
I've been playing Luigi's Mansion on my 3DS constantly for the past month, so when I saw this video in my recommended I got super excited

Damn i would love to play the game again with the cave.
Such a nice game. I'm a bit sad that the second one wasn't that good. Hope LM3 will be better.
I love the idea of a beta Luigi's Mansion having areas around the actual mansion. It'd be neat to have to leave the mansion if the next room key was located in an area outside of it - like retrieving a key from a collapsed shed in Boo Woods, or perhaps utilizing the actual water well that is located in the mansion's front yard. Would have actually made for a neat change of pace.
@@SwankyBox i wish i could Program games so we could see how fun that would be. I'll try to get unity.
Second one had some really good gameplay and the mines had a great atmosphere, however the rest wasn't that amazing atmosphere wise. Hope they combine the gameplay from dark moon and the original atmosphere for a great game.
I'm playing luigis mansion on my phone. I'm using dolphin emulator. I have the galaxy s8 plus. The sound works perfectly. The game also runs at 29 to 30 frames per second. I'm using stock settings as well.
I would love it if here was even a boss outside the actuall mansion.....like idk maybe a ghost shaped like a tree with red eyes....THAT would be cool.....and pretty terrifying
"when luigis mansion was on the n64" i didnt know that they were originally going to make it for n64
They weren't. It all started on the GC.
@@LMFinish nope, development and ideas began on the n64, and it was planned to release there. Then they moved to the gc
mayhaps modders can get on doing this sort of thing to make it have those forest sections and whatnot
Maybe. I don't think rearranged areas, custom rooms and whatnot are too far away from now.
just looks like how you would get into the "graveyard" beforehand before they decided to scrap or "cut" that tunnel/cave in favor of going in the doghouse to get into the graveyard.
Luigis mansion is better than dark moon
I feel like the space next to the courtyard used to be a pool area where water goes will come out. In order to defeat water ghost, you need the freeze element in the tea room. But aince the tea room was later on in the level you couldn't defeat the pool ghost so they scrapped it. Instead of the pool ghost they made the ghost in the tub thats needs the freeze element. In my theory the ghost in the tub was a last minute change. The ghost in the tub used to be a ghost in the pool by the courtyard before it was scrapped.

So excited for this one!!!!
I hope one day we get to see all this beta stuff put into mod or something. It's all so interesting and I would love to see it in action.
It either could be a pathway that lend you to the removed boss Elh or it could've been a shortcut that would've taken you to a different level back when Luigi's Mansion was a Super Mario Game. I mean, Nintendo did plan for a desert level would be in the game but was removed.
I love that you keep discovering more hidden stuff in this game its like its always holding lost treasures XD
For what I've seen in the boundaries and exploring the game as far as i could (without things like this or the use of cheats or mods, because I can't use them unfortunately) I've found many things myself, specifically talking about how the Gameboy horror map version of the unuesed ladder room and more unused rooms in e gadds lab

Btw are u ready for luigis mansion 3 anyone
I can't wait! I hope they reveal new info soon
I think the cave was actually a loading and that's why it was cut off and that slug skeleton unused boss was probably there. The other area probably meant that the outside was going to loop around.
Now i know the true reason why luigi wanted to visit the mansion.. 0:47
My opinion is that this room was either a brand new room, or it could have been the entrance to the bunker (E Gadd’s bunker)
Hey There, i found a new misheard phrase in Super Mario Odyssey: go to new donk city and go inside the rc car area (the one inside the building). Then go in front of the Woman and listen what she says: "Burn this Leg"
do you think that gaining control in eGad's lab, is because the game doesn't really have animated cut scenes they're all "in-game" animations.. so that when you went into eGad's lab the game would lock the users ability to control the character in the environment, and that i would've been easier for the developers to just put Luigi on rails and emulate certain systematic button presses in order to make that in-game cutscene cohesive with the rest of the game.
1 year later, I'm back... I still have no idea what these areas were for....
The one that goes off to the right I would assume could have been potentially a garden path that would allow luigi to go from the front of the mansion to the rear of the mansion
What I think happened is that the dog made a tunnel to the graveyard. You enter the dog house and go through the tunnel to the graveyard and face bogmire. The camera probably didnt work well in the tunnel so they scrapped it? Idk just a theory.
Maybe the deleted cave was a Green House for the backyard?
Interesting concept
