In regards to your first question, I think that maybe the player originally had to 'find' the poltergust, in a feature that maybe was ultimately scrapped but due to time constraints, maybe they didn't have time to properly move it? I don't know. Anyway great video as always.
It feels more logical that they added a tutorial and had to fit the tutorial in after the already made intro sequence that was made as an internal trailer. Watch it with the idea of two different game intros that ended up being merged, as both where good in what they did and they are working "good enough" together, even when it is a break in flow.
@@reddodeado301 Actually it may have been EXACTLY like that. Considering this is where you have to go on your way to capture Uncle Grimly it’s possible that Luigis Poltergust was stolen during the blackout and that would be where it would’ve been hidden.
My immediate thought was they planned for E. Gadd to be hiding behind the cabinet aswell, but for some reason didn't go through with it. Like he was hiding from the ghost when Luigi entered.
oh, let me give you a break down of how the vacuum works in the intro. The event for the cutscene uses a command on E. Gadd's object on the map, specifically: "demo_hakase""demo_vhead""demo_vbody" demo_hakase being Gadd's internal character name used for the event, demo_vhead being the nozzle and vbody being the main vacuum model (they are all separate actors), which are attached to E. Gadd using that command. However, that command by itself isn't enough to simply create them out of nowhere and attach them, you have to spawn them in first manually. Which explains the devs' attempt to hide them under the closet.
It still strikes to me as odd as to how they didn't just move it beyond the wall. There's absolutely *no* reason to, as a developer, place a cutscene object within player view, finding out it can be seen, and attempting to make it less visible by rotating a clauset. Why go through all that effort when you could just either make that object invisible or move it out of bounds? As a developer my self, all I can really say to this is... "Why would you do that??" 😆

I like to think E. Gadd was hiding under that furniture, and the devs did that on purpose to subtly tell someone was hiding, maybe he was fighting the Gold Ghost before Luigi arrived, then both heard somebody trying to open the door, the ghost (holding the key) left to check, and E. Gadd hid under the nearest spot he could find, taking it as chance to do a sneak attack on the ghost, that Luigi made even easier to do

The vacuum being loaded in at the beginning is probably related to the fact that the vacuum is always loaded in throughout the rest of the game, where as E. Gadd is not
My guess in why the poltergust is under the cabinet, is because they might have originally intended for a cutscene to play where Luigi is fleeing from the ghost. As he's running around he's constantly looking over his shoulders and accidently runs straight into it, knocking it over and revealing the vacuum underneath it. This is when the ghost would panic and Luigi would think of using it to defend himself. After the ghost flees, the door to the back right of the room would open up and E-Gad walks into the room. This would start the Poltergust training.
that would be a rather nice sequence, but the explanation is simpler and more related to technical stuff. the game has to load in the gust in order to attach it to E. Gadd, which is why the devs tried to hide it
Honestly this game is on a whole other level. Even though LM 3 is the prettiest game, it doesn't beat the overall setting nor ghosts of the original. The ghosts in this game had chilling backstories and feels. For example in the original, there are the two ghost kids that died while playing hide and seek. In LM 3 the ghosts are pretty pathetic and have no motive other than "Get Luigi". There designs are also very bland. In the original there is a more intimidating feel when the ghosts are after you. Not to mention in the original there were multiple personalities. Like how some bosses didn't really mind you. In the original most of the boss ghosts are one big family, ultimately adding to the spooky atmosphere.
Also in that room whereYou fight the chain greenie there are suits of armor. How did they get there and why was one lined up perfectly to stab the head of the other
I really want to hear a little bit more about the waluigi kill portrait. Like does every copy have a chance of that popping up or that it just won't show up at all if you dont have the right copy?
My theory is the reason that they vacuum cleaner is in the room is perhaps they were going to have an original cutscene of the ghost closing on Luigi as professor e gad barely gets to the vacuum cleaner in time. but animation cost time and money so they just did that simple off-screen trick we see.
I remember this game terrified me as a kid. The power outage was my worst nightmare and I basically ran to the foyer and saved and waited until my brothers older friend to turn the power back on One of the greatest games ever. I wish the new luigis mansion was as scary
Question 1: perhaps E.Gadd was meant to load in on entry, but was moved to load in on cutscene for some reason, leaving the poltergust with 'garbage' pointers for its position.
Yesterday I discovered the hidden ghosts in the sitting room and guest room by mistake using action replay. It threw me off and I was shocked to see it
I wish we had a "directors cut" of this game showcasing stuff that got cut or a special gallery that showcases discarded objects desings and maybe concept art just like bioshock did on the remastered version but thats just a wish
Could be that the pultigust is considered a diffrent type of object to Egad. Since it's a tool in game maybe they never programmed in the code for the professor to wear it outside of the cutscene.
I have to wonder, if one day we could mod luigi's mansion to the point if getting a boo woods experience, the unused cave to the side of the graveyard, the cut boss and a multiplayer for the original luigi's mansion, maybe even have some of the cut ghosts. It would be very neat to see all of it brought back to it's functional form, and about the cave and boo woods, there are of course 3 rooms we can never clear, the cave which is always dark, and the two rooms to the right of the back yard of the mansion. Something was there once before, I feel like soon we will be able to get whatever was there back to it was supposed to be and maybe even more.
@@void7816 oh trust me, there's plenty. More and more people are gathering to create great projects. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an explosion of new mods soon.
The poltergust is used in one animation... But more importantly it's in a fixed position, suggesting it's a separate entity, having e gadd animated with it is more taxing on the data, since it's only a few seconds, the text boxes make it take longer
Guess concerning the Poltergust E.Gadd is using, it is reusing the same animation of Luigi using the tool. But since they were saving on data, they made the earlier instance to act as intended but set to be added on E.Gadd so when Luigi receives it, it may as well be the same data, and save space in loading.
I have a theory for why the Poltergust is under the furniture in the first room. My guess is that it helps save on memory by using a separate Poltergust model and rigging it to E. Gadd and Luigi instead of creating separate models for both.
For a possible answer to the first question, you were probably meant to get the poltergust right there and maybe push the wardrobe out of the way before they had E.Gadd just give it to you.
Luigi places his flashlight on his back as if he had the poltergust equipped. Perhaps it is on Luigi, just invisible, by the polygon model being moved out of site.
hey swankybox in the video at one point you can see mario in the outhouse at the back of the mansion were the toad should be did you swap the models? just curious :)
Is it possible to do all missions within the span of three days in Majora's mask? Cuz I've been playing it and I'm noticing that every mission resets even though your progress moves on so..
Are you the same dude from horror scoped? If you are. I didn’t even know, I found horror scoped first a while ago and found you but I didn’t know it was the same person until now
You probably have to load a Poltergust object to have it use it's vaccum function during the cutscene. Because I notice that it's already sucking up the ghost when it's on Gadd's back. I site my own knowledge of Computer Science and my degree in game design for this one.
my theory about the poltergust being present might be because It's always part of luigi so it has to go somewhere while not on luigi's back. Or maybe nintendo's just high af.
I like Luigi’s Mansion 2 too much. I loved the ghost variants from scarescraper. I spent so much time looking through all of them. It’s a shame Luigi’s mansion 3 doesn’t have that many ghosts.
I think the reason the poltergust was loaded in independently from E-Gad is because the GameCube had limited space, especially on the small discs, why take up more space with a separate model of E-Gad that you’ll only use once, when you can just snap the poltergust’s model onto his back and save memory? Edit: I just read LMFinish’s comment- I’m dumb-

Something was there once before, I feel like soon we will be able to get whatever was there back to it was supposed to be and maybe even more.
we have all the tools, anybody could technically being working on all that
@@LMFinish oh that is awesome, tho idk if people are interested in modding LM
@@void7816 oh trust me, there's plenty. More and more people are gathering to create great projects. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw an explosion of new mods soon.
@@LMFinish nice
@@LMFinish is there any stuff like a discord for luigi's mansion modding?
The poltergust is used in one animation... But more importantly it's in a fixed position, suggesting it's a separate entity, having e gadd animated with it is more taxing on the data, since it's only a few seconds, the text boxes make it take longer
Guess concerning the Poltergust E.Gadd is using, it is reusing the same animation of Luigi using the tool. But since they were saving on data, they made the earlier instance to act as intended but set to be added on E.Gadd so when Luigi receives it, it may as well be the same data, and save space in loading.
yeah that's pretty much it, it reuses the same gameplay poltergust actor, which is attached to E. Gadd by the cutscene's event using a command
More of Luigi's Mansion please!
I’ve played this game so many times that i know what to do every time I play
just bought your game! looking forward to checking it out
Luigi places his flashlight on his back as if he had the poltergust equipped. Perhaps it is on Luigi, just invisible, by the polygon model being moved out of site.
Swanky is operating on another wavelength
The inside of the building not matching with the exterior is the reason why there aren't any scale models of Luigi's Mansion that are accurate
4:44 whats in that shack?
seems like he swapped toad's model for mario lol
@@LMFinish it really does look like mario in there, doesnt it?
@@cordelllush8133 certainly.
hey swankybox in the video at one point you can see mario in the outhouse at the back of the mansion were the toad should be did you swap the models? just curious :)
it is always fun to learn more about this game
The lugi frog is the real secate
Is it possible to do all missions within the span of three days in Majora's mask?
Cuz I've been playing it and I'm noticing that every mission resets even though your progress moves on so..
Can this be a new series now?
The ghost in the room be like: we cant get sucked if he can't get in
Hey Swanky, have you ever or will you ever plan to make videos covering Luigi’s Mansion 3?
7:11 wow why does that ghost has 200 HP !?
Are you the same dude from horror scoped? If you are. I didn’t even know, I found horror scoped first a while ago and found you but I didn’t know it was the same person until now
Yeah, he originally made RE videos on this channel but moved it to a new channel because of the youtube algorithim
You probably have to load a Poltergust object to have it use it's vaccum function during the cutscene. Because I notice that it's already sucking up the ghost when it's on Gadd's back. I site my own knowledge of Computer Science and my degree in game design for this one.
This is probably a crazy conspiracy theory, but the poltergust could be a ghost itself...
The reason why you visit Luigi mansion every October becaous Hallowen . I thing ...
my theory about the poltergust being present might be because It's always part of luigi so it has to go somewhere while not on luigi's back.
Or maybe nintendo's just high af.
it ain't actually, they're separate actors, attached to both Luigi and E. Gadd via code and events which is why it's required to load them first
Awesome stuff!
Every copy of Luigi's Mansion is personalized.
Do you have any videos about the newest Luigi's Mansion
At this moment I’m trying to make it top down
I like Luigi’s Mansion 2 too much. I loved the ghost variants from scarescraper. I spent so much time looking through all of them. It’s a shame Luigi’s mansion 3 doesn’t have that many ghosts.
Corn maze? More like, maize maze!
Waluigi apparition and Wario apparition are best friends
I think the reason the poltergust was loaded in independently from E-Gad is because the GameCube had limited space, especially on the small discs, why take up more space with a separate model of E-Gad that you’ll only use once, when you can just snap the poltergust’s model onto his back and save memory?
Edit: I just read LMFinish’s comment-
I’m dumb-
