    Sweet Pete is 100% based on Bobby Driscoll, the character's backstory is practically a 1-for-1 reference to how Disney threw him away the moment he hit puberty and that's extremely fucking disrespectful. There's no like joke or anything, they took a dead man their company mistreated and made him into a resentful bitter antagonist based on the character he's most known for.

    • @TheDawnofVanlife
      @TheDawnofVanlife Рік тому +14

      I don’t see how it’s a one on one reference when Sweet Pea is basically a gangster and Bobby Driscoll was not, even after things got bad for him. In fact, Driscoll even had a few adult acting gigs before he passed under unfortunate circumstances. Child stars basically written off as they age is not a new concept. Sweet pea even had a legitimate successful bussiness to cover the illegal one, Driscoll never did. Sweet Pea’s story is literally the generic age old child star story. Also at the end when Sweet Pea is transformed by the knock off machine, he has a cat head strikingly similar to the Chip and Dale villain. The majority of sweep pea’s life after child stardom doesn’t match Driscoll at all and is so generic in general it’s #mostyoungstars. Especially in old Hollywood.

    well, only one person so far has spoken out about this, so I'll be the one to say it here.
    the whole "peter pan grew too old and got kicked out of Disney" is actually a true story. the child actor for Peter pan back then grew too old to voice him, so Disney kicked him out. the kid got bullied, harassed and shut out by so many people which lead him to drugs and alcohol, which eventually killed him.
    Hell even the whole speech that Pan says in this movie is the exact same as what the kid said back then. it's not a good thing to have in any movie, and it's definitely not good to be a mirror copy of it but never address this once. it's quite sick actually, and whoever made the film should be ashamed of their decision

    I think the only voice actor who avoided aging out of his role was Zach Callison - he did Steven Universe WHILE hitting puberty IIRC and he managed to keep his performance consistent while voicing Steven in his younger years. Things got easier in Future when Steven reached Zach's IRL age, but before that point it was very impressive. Also I think in the little bit in Chip and Dale where Peter Pan is running through the convention hall and gets a stitch you hear a small orchestrated bit of "You can Fly" for a few seconds, which was a cute touch.

Apparently, his backstory is vaguely similar to his original voice actor's tragic fate. From what I've heard, Bobby Driscoll was fired from Disney once he started hitting puberty, and later on in his life, he started taking drugs and got arrested a few times. In 1968, his body was found in an abandoned building, and was then buried in a potter's field (a large, unmarked grave) in Hart Island.

My favorite stories are the ones that seem lighthearted, but are actually messed up. Usually, I see this in video games such as Super Paper Mario, but alot of Disney movies do this too. It's a cool concept to work with, and I can totally see this being in the Who Framed Roger Rabbit universe, which just makes me want the world explored more. Most of those kids were in an agreement with their parents about a trust fund when their older, but most money went to the parents. So unfortunately he ended up with an addiction, and was found in an abandoned house. Put into an unmarked grave, then for 2 years no one claimed his body. Even took the public over 7 years to hear about the incident, crazy how they just pump movies outta them and just toss em aside when they aren't lucrative anymore

    'Ugly Sonic' is new to me. Everyone I've seen talking about the 2020 Sonic film calls him 'Monster Sonic'. Those are not bootlegs. The proper term is mockbuster.
    The people behind this film knew exactly what they were doing with Peter Pan in this sorry excuse for a film. Bobby Driscoll died alone, homeless & probably full of hard drugs. He deserved better & so does his Peter Pan. This is such a disgusting, shocking & disrespectful thing they've done. I haven't given Disney my money since 2016 (bought The Black Cauldron for an anniversary party), but shit like this, the fake Pride merch & remake films has me wanting to never buy any of their crap again. If I were related to Bobby, I'd raise hell against them & not stop.

    I don’t know what the license agreements were to get all the characters they did, but there were more then a few characters in this film weren’t even owned by Disney. So I will say unlike Space Jam 2, it wasn’t just about showing off Disney characters. Sonic is a Paramount Pictures property, not Disney. So while I agree it’s “reference the movie”, Disney wasn’t owning up to anything since they don’t own Ugly Sonic. They were just making a joke out of the whole Sonic debacle. I don’t know if it was confirmed if they licensed Ugly Sonic or not. But some of the random characters around were like animated product placements from commercials and not owned at all by Disney.

    Actually, I’ve always wondered about the logistics of these kinds of universes, where cartoons are essentially reality TV. Like, are Toons a separate species that evolved alongside humanity? What were Toons doing for the thousands and hundreds of years before animation was created? What happens with reboots-does the original “actor” (aka character) reprise the role with surgery or special effects, or does another “actor” (aka the updated version of said character) take on the role instead? I mean, I know I’m probably overthinking this, but I want answers d@mnit.
