One of my favorites! The ocean is a vast and mostly unexplored void full of creatures we’ve never seen. The ones we have seen look so alien. I think the comparison of the ocean and the universe are awesome, and it’s such a creative twist on the original story!
As cool as the visuals and science fiction elements are, the reason this movie stands above the rest is because of the relationship between Silver and Hawkins.
8:57 That notification bell... took me a while to figure out it wasn't coming from my apps but from the vid xD I watched Treasure Planet not long ago and noticed i enjoy it much more now, compared to when i was a child. There is just so much depth to the main characters (and their father&son relationship is just awesome). And omg, the animations, this dynamism ! Just amazing
What’s cool about johns silver is his body is 2D animation and his cyborg arm is 3D animation. So silver take up 2 different animation styles to design this character Also the song playing during the Jim and johns montage is an original song made just for the montage
18:45 I have been saying this for YEARS! Most people don't initially see the similarities between Silver and Jim but can't unsee it after i tell them. That's why we love Silver so much, it's because he's just like our hero only he went down darker paths, but then helped a boy who was like him go down a brighter path. God I love this movie so much
"The Captain and Dr. Dopler end up hooking it up and having babies. That was a side plot" Ironically, their relationship was the only thing I remembered about this movie.
My dad used to get animated movie dvds for me and even in iran this one passed him by. And it couldn't make me happier. I'm glad i watched this one when i was a bit older and got to appreciate it more. This is one of my favorites 😊
My main tattoo on my forearm is a Treasure Planet tattoo. Easily my most favorite movie. If you watch carefully over the whole movie, you'll notice a dark bar across Jim's face representing his angst and guilt that slowly dissapears by the end of the movie, leading to one of my favorite quotes, "Look at you! Glowing like a solar fire. You're something special, Jim. You're gonna rattle the stars, you are!"
This is legit my fav movie ever! Captain Amelia was my first platonic crush. The giant spider was legit my invisible friend for many years (dont ask me why, I have no idea). And the relationship between Jim and Silver... Those two are the reason why ”Gruff older person suddenly finds themselves adopting a teen in need” is my favourite trope of all time!!
I think that Ben being outed as just a comedic relief character truly is ignorant. He is just an insane man that lost his memory and was isolated on a planet long enough for a man to turn into a skeleton. Not only did he have a reason to be a lil goofy, he is a more integral character in the story, being the guy who leads jim to the treasure.

I know the title calls it a mistake, but it's actually a really big love letter to that movie and explains the development, why it flopped, and even talks about the planned and scrapped sequel that was supposed to star Willem DaFoe as the main villain
This movie actually comforted me many times throughout the darkest moments of my childhood. The vibe of the movie was just so heartfelt and genuine. One of my favorites of all time.
John was literally the best character in the movie! He had a very compelling arc. The villain turning good and being a mentor/father figure. There is nothing better in a story than a grump with a good heart ♥️. And just his whole design was badass!
I still get so fired up that they were literally about to start recording for Treasure Planet 2 when they decided to cancel it because of how bad it did. They should’ve just made the second one as well I would’ve loved to see William DeFoe as Iron Beard!!
I grew up without a dad in the 90's. John was such a complicated villain for me because he became an amazing father figure to Jim. I know hes a bad guy but i dound myself kind of sweeping that under the rug just because he took Jim under his wing in the way he did. To this day, that montage where hes teaching Jim and the end may or may not still gets my eyeballs leaking a lil
I would love for you to watch The Prince of Egypt. I'm not a religious person or anything but the music and animation was absolutely beautiful. I cry at the end every single time I watch it
I rewatch this movie every year. Last year I noticed just how amazing the character animation was; everything is so seamless and the acting suits the characters.
One of the things I remember from this movie is when they're trying to escape the ship and Amelia has given Doppler a laser gun, and at one point he shoots a bunch of hanging barrels or something down and wipes out a group of pirates and Amelie asks if he meant to do that and he replies "You know what, I actually did!" but in like this surprised tone and it's hilarious. XD
If they had used the entirety of Atlantis's original screenplay/script, it would have been like 2 and a half hours long. They had to cut out a lot of the journey to Atlantis and a bunch of the creatures they would have encountered, such "squid bats" and "lava whales". You can find storyboards of some deleted scenes on the original special edition DVD release or on UA-cam most likely.
Apparently, some at Pixar believe they killed 2D animation after Disney’s early 2000’s 2D films flopped so badly (after Pixar made 3D animation popular with the public).
The movie came out while I was a rebellious young teen and the song I'm Still Here was my theme when I felt misunderstood from the rest of the world. The movie still remains a gem in my heart to this day.
(Sort of) Recently rewatched this movie for the first time in over a decade and I remembered why it was my favorite as a kid but I love it even more as a adult because I can fully appreciate the story and the artistic aspect of it and it made me wanna rebuild the relationship I have with my dad. Everything about this movie is wonderful and I’m glad it’s getting recognized for what is, a masterpiece.
If you like all the animation in this movie I’d recommend you’d look into it, there’s so much cool stuff that this pushed forward with most scenes using multiple types of animation. Even John’s animation was done with two different programs in every scene that he’s in.

A more financial explanation suggested that Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets had already swamped out this film and Disney’s own The Santa Clause sequel at the worldwide box office sales.
As an animation dork, I love this movie. Some of the CG hasn't aged well (the space whales) but the mixing of 2D and 3D animation is just stunning. And if you want another really great underrated movie, Dreamworks "The Prince of Egypt". It's the biblical tale of Exodus, changed but still handled with care. The music is great, the animation is fantastic, and it just feels like an epic film.
I totally agree with you here. Amazing movie, very underrated. But the whole reason they flopped was not because everyone hated it, it was because they used very expensive animation for the entire movie! The cost of the movie was way more then what they earned and that's what almost ruined them. The ship is entirely 3-d, the planet is 3-d, and everyone else is 2-d. I also have a theory between John silver and Jim. I know this is based off a movie which was based off a book, but what if John is actually Jim's long lost father? His father ran off for presumably treasure and he had a book about treasure planet. Years later he comes up on a voyage to treasure planet, the thing he's been searching for his entire life, and poses as crew. The reason him and Jim get together is because they are actually family. And the cyborg/different look, advanced surgery. He was able to get the cyborg parts after a lost battle and somewhere in life get a different look to keep hidden as best as he could. That's why Jim never recognized John as his father. And everything John does in the movie supports this theory
This movie holds a special place in my heart. Jim and silvers relationship makes me cry each time. The score is amazing and i could listen to it every day.
Bro I can't believe some of those people thought that this movie was bad, this is a master piece. treasure planet and Atlantis: the lost empire are my long time favorite Disney movies as a child up to a young adult.

@@zyourzgrandzmaz You just said "anyone over 20" as if Disney's target audience isn't predominantly children. Just because a old story is being remade for the newer generations doesn't mean that everyone knows what it's about. Let's use your highschool reading example. Imagine your teacher assigns your class a classic book to read that you haven't heard of before. You're excited to read it, when suddenly he just starts talking about major plot points. This movie was my whole childhood, and my fiancé had never seen it so we watched it together the other day, and holy shit. It’s amazing. I’m so glad you like it.
Just earlier today, as I was playing The Outer Worlds, I was reminded of this movie and thought how awesome it would be for more studios (whether film or video game) to explore this theme of space pirates. Though Outer Worlds doesn’t much, something about being the ‘Captain of the Unreliable’ makes me think how cool it would be to have a pirate-themed game set in space.

And if you hated it, it’s interesting to see someone else’s perspective who did like it
Yea i feel that relevent info and good content wholesome content is jus better than toxic irrelevant shit
8:57 That notification bell... took me a while to figure out it wasn't coming from my apps but from the vid xD
I watched Treasure Planet not long ago and noticed i enjoy it much more now, compared to when i was a child. There is just so much depth to the main characters (and their father&son relationship is just awesome). And omg, the animations, this dynamism ! Just amazing
What’s cool about johns silver is his body is 2D animation and his cyborg arm is 3D animation. So silver take up 2 different animation styles to design this character
Also the song playing during the Jim and johns montage is an original song made just for the montage
And it blends so perfectly, you can't even tell unless you're really paying attention
I was sooo obsessed with the... globe? The map thingy. And it was so cool when Jim did something to it to reveal the map.
Silver is the ONLY Disney character to use both computer animation and traditional animation. There will never be another. Isn't that sad.
it's so satisfying to see people FINALLY giving this movie the credit it deserves. JUSTICE FOR TREASURE PLANET

I have been saying this for YEARS! Most people don't initially see the similarities between Silver and Jim but can't unsee it after i tell them. That's why we love Silver so much, it's because he's just like our hero only he went down darker paths, but then helped a boy who was like him go down a brighter path. God I love this movie so much

Ironically, their relationship was the only thing I remembered about this movie.
That whole wounded booba area scene made my shorts shrink.

Not only did he have a reason to be a lil goofy, he is a more integral character in the story, being the guy who leads jim to the treasure.
the fact that it almost took down disney makes me love it even more
That's the best part
With the casualties of no marvel movies,
No S7 of clone wars, no mandolorian, and no wall E or any Pixar movie probably
I’ll still take it
@@Whatsabird actually marvel movies would probably still be a thing because avengers was the first movie distributed by Disney every movie before that was made by marvel studios and distributed by Paramount they might not be the same as we know them but they were still being made before the purchase of marvel studios
Nah for me that's just fear lmao.
Treasure planet was one of the most inspiring movies I have ever seen, everything about it is absolutely amazing and the introduction to their universe is incredible
I don’t think that John was intended to really be a villain villain he was more so intended to be a complex character whose kinda a gray area. He did also happen to be the antagonist for a bit but then he kinda got redeemed
This movie is literally a whole ass experience, i bawl every time I watch it. It’s probably one of my favorite movies of all time
I've always wondered how many people got turned into furries by Captain Amelia.
Right here.
Not turned into a furball, but something got turned on alright.
Definitely a tipping point
1:08 Hey, that's breadsword's video on treasure planet!
The relationship between John and Jim is genuinely one of my personal favorite relationships in all of cinema.
XD
This and Atlantis are such gems that are so amazing and nobody knows about them
I've always wanted to watch the alantis one but idk where to watch it
@@dookinater9756 Check Disney Plus? Buy the Blu-ray? There's official ways. And... UN... official ways...
@@grantmortensonva I found it to be boring tbh not my cup of tea

Apparently, some at Pixar believe they killed 2D animation after Disney’s early 2000’s 2D films flopped so badly (after Pixar made 3D animation popular with the public).
The movie came out while I was a rebellious young teen and the song I'm Still Here was my theme when I felt misunderstood from the rest of the world. The movie still remains a gem in my heart to this day.
The Emperor’s New Groove is fuckin’ dope
The best disney movie IMO
💯
8:57 shows as the "most replayed" part of this video because of people trying to figure out if the Discord notification sound was on their end or part of the video lol
I love this movie it's right up there with Tarzan mulan the lion king and Atlantis the lost empire as well as the hunchback of Notre Dame as one of the best Disney movies man
"I don't know why people are bringing up science"
Because people on reddit and .tumblr need to shit on literally everything and anything other people enjoy.
Disney set it up to fail to justify scraping 2D productions.
My partner grew up watching this movie and he had me sit down and watch it for the first time. As a sci-fi/fantasy writer, I rate 10/10. Loved it.
“GOD! I NEED A SNACK!”

Seamless. Absolutely seamless. 👌
This movie was like a fever dream to me as a kid and after all this time i just thought it was a dream but the fact that I dont belong in an insane asylum and didn't think this twisted master piece up is amazing.
I've always liked B.E.N. he was never annoying, he was kind of helpful and, yeah, he was funny.
Ding dong your opinion is wrong
Glad i'm not the only one who liked him :)
He was overly enthusiastic about having anyone to talk to. A few decades alone will do that to ya...
@@ramenpriest8312 go watch your disney remakes
Thank you! He’s not even in the whole movie, so he it’s not a constant annoyance If people don’t like him! I thought he was pretty funny, and still do.
A more financial explanation suggested that Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets had already swamped out this film and Disney’s own The Santa Clause sequel at the worldwide box office sales.
The opening scene where he’s falling out the sky was the coolest thing to me
1:49 I JUST INSSTANTLY THOUGHT OF "SPACE PIRATES" BY WATERFLAME 💀
God this movie is so damn good.
Disney did them dirty.
The animation and CGI touches this movie had are so beautiful.
I really love how Morph is supposed to be John’s parrot and he can turn into other things like how parrots mimic people.
Treasure plannet pisses all over anything Disney produces at the moment. FACTS.
Said literally every generation about the stuff they grew up with.
@@itsaUSBline but treasure planet is objectively better than most modern disney movies. Or you just want the live action remake?
Not better than tangled and zootopia nope not in my book
Treasure planet is my childhood I would watch it like everyday. Morph was my favorite because the animation was just satisfying to watch.

Having the villain go through such character development is absolutely amazing and I'm sad that this concept isn't used a bit more.
I remember absolutely loving this movie as a kid and it still holds a special place in my heart to this day!
I think the Jim and Silver father son like dynamic is as great as Mufasa and Simba, its the core of the movie.
Actually Disney attempted to sabotage it at multiple turns during it's development.
The trailer is proof enough of that. They outright say in the trailers that Silver is the bad guy! That would be like if they straight up told us Hans was the villain in the Frozen trailers!
I knew it. If it's made by Disney and it flops instantly, then Disney wanted it gone.
Now i have to add artistic sabatage to my list of reasons why I avoid trailers
@@insertclevernamehere1186 bro this is made from a book that is like 100 years old and the movie is also really old. and the book was read in highschool for a really long time. long john silver is a household name for anyone over 20 and everyone already knew the story when this came out. since its such a known story is actually one of the reasons no one went to theaters. they thought it was a kids movie about treasure island
Sure, they might have been super familiar with the book, but you weren't. Now reading it for the first time won't have the same impact because now you know what most of the plot points are...
Honestly its disneys own fault that this movie flopped as hard as it did. Look it up they screwed up the marketing for it on purpose because they didnt want it to succeed because they had something against the creators.

Top 1 movie for me of all time
I watched this movie on vhs as a kid and it is still my favourite animated movie till this day 😩 the sound track slaps and the animation/creativity is amazing. Space pirates, its insane how this movie flopped but I'm so happy its coming to light now
I watched this movie RELIGIOUSLY as a kid. I had a plushie of John Silver and I adored it so much
Blast Jim's Song (I'm Still Here) and it literally makes me want to go on an epic journey any day - it's 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not gonna lie when the montage between silver and Jim started playing with that music in the background I started to cry for some reason,I don't know why the scenes hit hard for me
More like the masterpiece that Disney went of their way to jeopardize any chance of it being successful.
You've been absolutely KILLING IT with your video line up - The chicken movies , Atlantis and now Treasure planet too. What next? The Hunchback of notre dam? Ichabad crane the headless horseman and Mr toad?
Treasure Planet is one of my favorite Disney movies. Unfortunately was hated because it wasn’t the standard Disney format. I honestly wish Disney would bring back its 2D animation studio
Almost ruined Disney, their biggest flop!

What a coincidence! I JUST put it on this morning for my kids, they loved it as much as I did when I was their age 😁
I'm glad a lot of people are giving treasure planet. It's respects now because this is literally my favorite movie from Disney and the crazy part is is that I literally had to rewatch it to find out if it's just nostalgia or is it actually great and I still had the same reaction and didn't find too many bad things in it

Love it how both childhood favorite movies were underated. I still rewatch them every now and then and it never gets old. 'Ye-yeah.. Ki-Kiragashnaga.... hey do you go by anything else???"
Now I must rewatch them.... I dug my own grave...
