Auto zoom is OK for 90% of the situations, but if you want to manually zoom or pan your map long press of Menu button will activate manual zoom/pan. If manual is activated you can zoom with Up/Down buttons or you can press Gps button to switch between manual zoom and pan. Press Back button to return from manual to auto zoom mode.
In my opinion easier method: 1: Connect your watch to your PC with a USB cable, 2. Drag and drop the GPX file into "Garmin Instinct/ Garmin/ NewFiles" folder on your watch, 4. Done
IMPORTANT: 1. as of 04/03/20 the GPX file on AllTrails has moved to the "More" button next to the Download maps button. 2. after importing your gpx file and you get an "opps!" message while trying to save. to fix this change the trail type from "running trail" to "other".
Interesting, I have different method with one similarity and that is "ops!" message. Usually I open chrome on my phone, download gpx file from a website and tap that file to open and select Garmin Connect as an app to open with. But...if Connect app wasn't not already activated before opening gpx file I get that "ops!" message when trying to save. Otherwise if Connect app was already started before that everything is fine.
Bingo, thanks for that. Don't understand why I couldn't find a quick clear answer for this on the Garmin site and have to rely on random YT videos, but there we are
Vid was a little hard to follow without a cursor, but this method worked flawlessly. I was able to upload all of Section C of the PCT to my Instinct. And it was fast!
Great explanation! I love hiking, but have been using my phone. I am looking at getting one of these now. The course navigation looks good, but does it show a bit of terrain, contours or features in the background? so I will know what I am heading into? Thanks!
Is there anywhere that actually demonstrated the map/gps/breadcrumb trail? I always see the features mentioned, and how to use then but no actual demo of people USING the maps lol
Is there a way to have the course map zoom in and out? or to just have it as a way pointer that tells me the general direction I need to go based on the course?
When the downloaded GPX topographic map of my route is displayed on my watch, does it still compile the data as it does for running, hiking, biking or other training while I am walking? Does the watch calculate the distance traveled, the duration of the hike, the elevation, the speed of the journey for each km, etc. Does auto pause also work?
Thanks alot this video helped me alot. I saw different video and followed the instruction to upload the maps onto my watch but found nothing. I was missing the send to device option! . Huge thumbs up 👍
Is it possible to import a route with waypoints? Would be helpful to highlight for example the top of a mountain or something like that. Thanks for your reply!
I create a course that stars in A, goes through B and ends with C, upload it to watch, start activity in A without starting navigation and by the time I get to B I want to be sure I am on the right track and check distance/ETA. If I start nav will the watch recalculate route and tell me distance/ETA from B to C, or will it rather tell me "go back to starting point"?
cannot share the file to the App Connect it's not in the list and there is not the choice to choose "other" in the list of possible apps to share with any suggestion?
I know u can add topo lines on the all trails map, how do u transfer topo lines from all trails to the fenix watch, if u can do that. Didn't know if there is video out there that shows u how to do that.
Great tutorial. Can we set check points (like cp 1, cp2, cp3) at the route from desktop first, then when uploaded to the watch, can the watch indicate the distance remaining from start to cp1, after we reached cp1 and headed to cp2, the watch will show the distance remaining from cp1 to cp2.
@@TechCoreDuo I'm using a phased out suunto ambit 2, the said function is there where i can plot few check points beforehand at pc then transfer to the watch. Trying to find info whether the same can apply to garmin instinct but can't find any. Gonna buy instinct soon, hope i won't regret it...huhu
Thanks for the video. I saw we have the exact same daily steps goal (6500). I would like to know if the watch buzzes every time you need to take a right or left? Or do you need to constantly be looking at your phone? Also the graphics seem hard to read. I’d love to see a video of the watchface while out doing a hike 👍🏻
Great, is ir possible to zoom in/ out the trail on the watch? Thanks
Rodolfo Moreno yes it is. You can zoom in and out and look ahead.
Auto zoom is OK for 90% of the situations, but if you want to manually zoom or pan your map long press of Menu button will activate manual zoom/pan. I was wondering about this, along with using BaseCamp.

@@branislavpetkovic same here. Connect has to be active before you "copy to Connect" or it won't work.
@@branislavpetkovic thanks man you saved me. I just do it from the explore app itself and it syncs by itself but it's a hit or miss sometimes
Bingo, thanks for that. Don't understand why I couldn't find a quick clear answer for this on the Garmin site and have to rely on random YT videos, but there we are
Worked perfect even on Instinct 2 Solar. Thanks!
Great to hear!
Excellent explainer, thanks! I used Instinct for a couple years now but haven't used this feature because I wasn't aware it's there!
Awesome! Can I also check the trail in the phone app if I need a bigger screen?
Just got this specifically for the courses. I appreciate this easy to follow tutorial!
I had no idea the Instinct could handle GPX files when I bought it. Thank you so much for sharing!
Glad I could help!
I have a question: When pressing share of my gpx file it doen not show the Connect app. How do I add it to suggested apps?
Fantastic instructions, short, sweet, and to the point. Thank you for the step by step video clips. Much appreciated!
You're very welcome!
Vid was a little hard to follow without a cursor, but this method worked flawlessly. I was able to upload all of Section C of the PCT to my Instinct. And it was fast!
Can you follow a course whilst also tracking your activity for the garmin fitness app?
Why save the hike in trail running, as you’re going to hike, not running?
For navigation am i better of getting the fenix 6 pro?
Great explanation! I love hiking, but have been using my phone. I am looking at getting one of these now. The course navigation looks good, but does it show a bit of terrain, contours or features in the background? so I will know what I am heading into? Thanks!

Slick, im assuming it still records your hike time/elevation and all that stuff?
Yes all tracking of heart and elevation continues in the background
Is there a way to have the course map zoom in and out? or to just have it as a way pointer that tells me the general direction I need to go based on the course?
Yes it is possible to zoom in and out. i forget which buttons do it but it os pretty intuative
Do we need to carry out phone constantly while using the watch

Does the watch calculate the distance traveled, the duration of the hike, the elevation, the speed of the journey for each km, etc. Does auto pause also work?
Yes all data is collected, the fox file just acts as a guide
I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this forever!!!
Yes, I do waypoints with all trails. Checkout the garmin explore app it has something similar
I have the 235, I can only have one preloaded route at a time on my watch.
Does this one allow you store multiple routes on your watch?
I create a course that stars in A, goes through B and ends with C, upload it to watch, start activity in A without starting navigation and by the time I get to B I want to be sure I am on the right track and check distance/ETA. cannot share the file to the App Connect it's not in the list and there is not the choice to choose "other" in the list of possible apps to share with
any suggestion?
Can the topography contour lines show up on the watch? Thanks for the vid
I don’t think so. With the tiny screen it would all become jumbled.
Great video that goes straight to the point!
I know u can add topo lines on the all trails map, how do u transfer topo lines from all trails to the fenix watch, if u can do that. Didn't know if there is video out there that shows u how to do that.
Is the GPS on constantly while you are using the map? If I am doing a multiday hike, will it run the phone down each day by using the map?
Yes it turns on gps so you know your location
I dont see any Bluetooth icon on your phone how are you connecting your phone to watch?
THANK YOU! Clear, straightforward, helpful.
This is brilliant thanks. Is there any way of changing the file?
You mean like adding turns and stops ?
@@TechCoreDuo sorry I meant file name?
Yes you can rename it in the app or before you import
Very nice tutorial, straight to the point, thanks.

I have not seen a feature like this but that would be cool. Although there are automatic route markers when I use AllTrails gpx.

best video for this topic i have searched on the internet. Thank you
still relevant..cheers. It has taken a few different approaches and tutorials.. This one is the first to work

Yes it does vibrate and beeps
For some reason, my AllTrails won't download a GPX file. Any suggestions?
The website layout changed a little since I made the video. There is a drop down with many more options now
Thank you! You are the best!!
Thank you!
Thank you! Worked perfectly!
Thats pretty sick.
Thanks so much for sharing this info
Any time!
Awesome! Thank you so much for making this video
Glad it was helpful!
I was taught to be cautious :)
Nice email avatar
Thanks!! 👍👍👍
VERY USEFUL ! Thank you
thanks had been looking for exactly that! Clear and to the point video
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Helpful instructions, but I don’t understand why people won’t just write instructions and post them somewhere. Videos are irritatingly tedious.
Hi, thanks for your video's instruction and I make it now. Nice
Very helpful. Thank you
Very informative and well made video
You have to pay to downlod
On AllTrails, I think so yes. But you can make your own gpx file on maplorer.com
THANK YOU!!!!!
Awesome thanks for the video.
Woooooooooooooooooow! Wtf wow! This is so freaking amazing. This worked on my fenix 5x plus sapphire! Can't wait to try it. Thank you so much!!
Very consice and informative video
Thanks
Very helpful, thank you.
