I have this watch and... I cannot express in words how much the Garmin Instinct Solar has changed my viewpoint, perspective on battery life. Years ago I had dreams of going a full week with a sporty-smartwatch. And now with 2020 technology, my dream has come true thanks to Garmin. The Instinct Solar lasted me 21 days without touching a plug. That combination of power-glass and solar glass was an amazing accomplishment. I hope that Apple copies Garmin in 2022...
Peter, I agree, I'd like to see Apple come up with a watch suitable for thru-hiking and I'm considering buying this watch, (or the newer version just announced.) Of all the great instructive videos Jumble has made, this is the first one that gives me pause about getting this watch. The panning/zooming seems convoluted, I understand the trade-off needed to attain superior battery life, but I'm concerned about the finicky nature of using the "map."
great videos mate thanks so much for putting the time I'm a climber and features like this just makes the difference. just has to be actually usable and working for real. These videos are the only way to know before buying.
I have a Garmin Chronos but the navigation features are identical to this watch. Is there any way to get the breadcrumb route to auto pan as you’re moving while zoomed in? I have to keep manually panning the route or my current location triangle disappears off the screen.
Hello, is it possible to transfer single Positions via Garmin Connect app to the Instinct and then Navigate as the crow flies as shown, but with a nice big visible compass like it is possible on etrex or foretrex devices?
Yes, but you have to also use the Garmin Explore app. Basically. . . . get the position into Garmin Explore . . . then sync your watch with Garmin Explore. I think this video I did will give you a good intro but Garmin Explore is awesome and easy to use - ua-cam.com/video/vGTxWVdeViE/v-deo.html
So if I have a gpx file uploaded to garmin connect for a mtb trail will that navigation be able to show me turn by turn as I am biking on the course? or how would that work? Thanks for the video btw, just ordered one of these bad boys
It should show you the line on a minimap, but it won't show you turns because these can be only defined when your device has a map. navigating on your bike with a watch isn't a best idea after all. If I were you I would buy a second hand etrex 10 and used it for seeing a trail you created
Hi, many thanks for your tutorials on the instinct watch they have helped no end. Question, do you know if it's possible to delete saved locations in one go? Also I've noticed that my instinct has been saving locations seemingly without me doing anything, for example I noticed it had saved a location with an airplane symbol? Can't figure that out at all!!
You asked about deleting saved locations in "one go". Not sure what you meant there. I assume you might be asking if there is just a way to delete all saved locations at once and start over? If so you can't do it on the watch but you could plug the watch into your computer and do it on the computer via the Garmin folder for your watch (using file explorer on your computer). You could also use the Garmin Explore app on your phone. . . .deleted all saved locations. . . then sync and that would do it as well. As far as the instinct automatically saving locations, I have never heard of that. All I could think is that you might have auto lap on for your activities, in which case it will save a value in the given activity per lap for you to navigate back to. . . but that is all I can think if. If it is doing this while you are not in an activity at all, then I am really stumped. Not sure this helped, but let me know if you have other questions.
I don't have one so Idk for sure, but unfortunately I don't think the watch allows you to see an actual map. You can make your own trail and download it onto the watch though. It also has an option to navigate back to where you started so you can never really get lost.
well, it is still a map by definition, a graphical way to show certain locations in the world. putting a full color routable OSM on a watch is a bit expensive and that's why only expensive watches have this. If you need to navigate you should just pick up something from the etrex 22x/32x series rather than a watch
Yeah unfortunately they will disappear. You can adjust it though so they don't disappear until after a certain time amount (30 seconds, 1 minute or 3 minutes). Here is a video I did that shows adjusting that: ua-cam.com/video/MimqI5XaAns/v-deo.html Hope this helps, thanks for watching
How do I make it that my current location arrow shows during navigation opposed to my destination point. I have tried zooming but I can't get it right. Any help please.
I had a look at your video now, if I change it to course it shows my location triangle, but when I change it to bearing it basically just shows my line and my destination point. On your video when you change it to either or it shows your current location triangle.
Thank you! More on the this Garmin Instinct Solar watch please. Lots of tips, no matter how small. Thanks. keep them coming!

The original goes two weeks on a charge of you don't use GPS. If you try six hours of GPS use on your solar, you'll still be half discharged.
Super helpful! Thanks for putting this together
really helpful set of videos - thank you
I agree. Very easy to understand.

Glad they helped, thanks for watching!
Agreed! Thank you! These videos helped me decide on purchasing this watch!
Thanks. Very important
Thanks! It’s really helpful information!

can you help does Esports Edition work with navigation as well but just has different Esport streaming settings but is the same others?

Can we see these Map on Garmin connect application?
Smart Watch!
Weird most of the navigate settings and such are missing on mine.
I measured the parameter of my property & saved it. How do I view the information?
Excelente!!!!
Thanks for this
Very cool.
So if you have it panned to where you are will it stay that same pan/zoom and follow you the entire way?
Yes
@ thank you!
Is that how you see the "map" , because I see no map there, I see only your home and where u want to go, just points on a blank screen.
I don't have one so Idk for sure, but unfortunately I don't think the watch allows you to see an actual map. You can make your own trail and download it onto the watch though. It also has an option to navigate back to where you started so you can never really get lost.
I think their fenix line has full maps though

out topic question. how come the notification of messenger on garmin app turn off by itself?

Is it possible to upload maps to it (Instinct 2)?
Urs. I've done it. It works well
How do I make it that my current location arrow shows during navigation opposed to my destination point. I have tried zooming but I can't get it right. Any help please.
I think this might be what you are needing, but if you still have questions let me know - ua-cam.com/video/0mN-uWsErgY/v-deo.html
