While Tatoh was definitely sick this game, I want to give Laaan the mvp here. Being able to survive through that, able to reboom and even managing to construct the trap that gave them the chance to comeback. It was some sick defensive play.
Huns are a really good rebooming civ too. Normally when rebooming you can't even build more vills because you're constantly housed. It just makes it that much faster.

yes, the HC3 overlay was better but it is permanently broken, only worked so well because it was 1v1 and had less players to cover. The currently used overlay is only an early preview, but will be a permanent feature in the game because they work with microsoft now. T90 once said that the HC3 overlay looked pretty bad in early stages as well so give it some time.
This new overlay isn't very clear at all. Like you said it's very busy. And there are just random numbers floating without any explanation. The numbers at the bottom right corner don't align with the icons. And why the "fancy" icons instead of the more obvious symbols? Like why have skulls for K/D, why have weird sword coin symbol for val%, etc. And also, there's no quick way to see which team is which colors.
An overlay needs to be somewhat self explanatory to viewers, otherwise you only scare them away. I've probably seen 10+ games with this overlay and I still need to think twice about the meaning of most numbers.
I think many of those numbers would be good if you could access them on command, like when they are crucial to understand the dynamic of the game. But they shouldn't be there all the time, there should be a hotkey to view and hide them. They take this to a point where it gets confusing and you need a manual to understand what you are looking at. An overlay needs to be intuitively accessible, I am sure SOTL would love this for his AOE maths calculations, but the average viewer just gets overtaxed.
Started playing aoe2 yesterday against friends, game is too hard, too much to think about, but it was fun, thanks for exposing aoe2 with hidden cup 2 for me
If you're finding it difficult, watch "spirit of the law" videos. He's a really good aoe 2 UA-camr who explains stuff with math. He has uploaded a lot of 'beginners guides' like what to do with your first 15 villagers.
I watched this game live, watched the VOD the next day, and now watched it on UA-cam. Best comeback I've ever seen, this was insane. Between this and MBL/Viper sling game, 2v2 WC has had 2 of my favorite games all year. I'm loving this tournament.
I feel like the dots are there more for viewers, especially ones who jump into the stream in the middle of the match. They can just look up there when they join the stream and see just how far players are to the being able to click up
Been playing since Age of Empires. The first one, where you start in the stone age, and rushing Egyptian chariot archers was hot meta. Anyway -- the sound bug where you hear things that happened in the past when you look at them has always been in the game. I distinctly remember sitting in the computer lab at the University of Minnesota (because I was a poor college student who couldn't afford a computer) and looking around the map post-game to hear all the sounds. It gave me a bizarre satisfaction, like popping bubble wrap.
I feel like that kinda shows how much Tatoh and Laan love the game. Like yeah you could re and get to next game, and you'd probably win the Bo5 regardless. But you're in a great tournament, you're part of an expert team, playing games against teams of the best players in the world. I'd do the same thing, let's try, let's play and see what happens, let's put on a show!
This game and the cast were really awesome but unfortunately the title ruined the suspense. I can‘t imagine that clickbait titles that take away that much from the experience are a net positive. Hope it won‘t happen too often...
I love 2v2s. It's so much nicer to watch the closeness of a game. It's not just "Oh Viper or Hera just clapped some pleb" or "Oh Viper and Hera finals, this will be intense". It adds so much extra skill and thought and gameplay. Also I miss the Twitch chat

What a game! I watched parts of Spain vs Argentina on twitch, but somehow missed this diamond. Thanks for bringing it to youtube, T90. :) I hope developers don't nerf ratan archers after this game. Because, I think, we don't often see them shine in competitive pro games. And I think it is good and reasonable from entertaining perspective to have something bright and strong in some specific situations. In the latest patch they already nerfed post-imperial indian camels and this set wasn't even played on a new patch. The same is with battle elephants. They nerfed battle elephant bonus against buildings despite the fact that it is already a situational unit and risky choice to go for. They are slow, expensive, vulnerable to monks and fast archers. And now it will be harder for players to justify going for them, because they will have become less effective for the purpose of breaking into enemy base.
I can say thats definitely the case for a while. I remember back on the UP days when I was playing something like Age of Chivalry, you could hear the "yow!" from dead units if you didn't see them die and you saw them over them. Only when they were very fresh corpses though, I think.

That on top of Fedex camel targer IS than Rattan, IS have more melee Armor and Hp than normal so take more time to deal with them end and let Elite Rattan who have 11 Attack free fire on the camel. When the melee attack down the Rattan basic unkillable.
at 35:00 you miss a "big raid" from yellow in blue base... not sure ahow much is was effective at 35:45 you even hear monk conversion from blue to stop it. watch the mini map!
I reay love rattan archers, there great agiest knights, there easy to micro, there resistant to skirms, and while expencive they give good value. Underated units

Obviously we have usual suspects like Viper, Hera, Liereyy, Mr Yo, MbL, TaToH; but after these 6 idk who'll get there. We can put TheMax there or Villese, then we have Nicov, and Dogao who played in the semis in HC3 or BacT, DauT had also performed good in the tournaments this year. I'm curious to see which 8 players will the top players pick for HC4 for automatic qualification.
Gotta wonder if Elephant Archers might've been the better call against so many Rattan Archers. Yes, the Elephant Archers would do virtually no damage, but they'd have been a lot harder to bring down than Camels. Then again, Rams would probably be better for that job.
I don't think the game was as over at that point as you think it was when TaToH got raided. He lost a few villagers and buildings there, but imo Monoz got hit even harder, losing so many villagers. Had he not been raided that badly, they might have won the game. Instead, they played on and didn't trade, slowly giving Spain the advantage.

For sure great play, but to me it doesn't seem like the craziest ever because Tatoh is such a strong player and after the army was taken out in the right corner it seemed to be a matter of maintaining high level play. If it was against a higher ranked team I think it may be the craziest
Indicators and information on screen isn't so much for the caster especially if they are used to clicking around like crazy to check things. They are for the viewers. For ease of gaining information. Think of any sports games. Lets choose football, for example, the coaches and casters don't need the info that is displayed on the screen, but it helps a viewer to know that it is 3rd down, that there is 14 yards to go, there is only 25 seconds left to with 1 timeout and, oh, that yellow line on the screen is the first down marker. Sure a skilled viewer, or the coaches, or caster can just look at the line reff holding the marker, but it is so much easier for millions of viewers if this info is presented in an ease of access manner. Especially if they want to gain some of this info and it just so happens to not be anything the caster is talking about.
T90 I miss seeing the Twitch chat in the videos. Although it's not live it still feels like the viewer is part of something bigger. Also we miss out on who/what you're responding to :).
They should have focused on tatoh instead of lan. tatoh had a hard counter to ethiopians, and fedex had a hard counter to huns. Even if they hadn't tried to kill tatoh, they maybe shouldn't have been quite so focused on killing lan. They did tons of damage about half-way in. After that they should have tried to hit tatoh. They gave him a lot of time unharassed.
I miss the most recent overlay, I know it broke, but this one is way to noisy to keep track of what is going on requiring a lot more time looking away from the game. Especially on mobile where I watch these videos, the icons are too small and cramped to quickly sift through what you want to identify.

This wasn't a big comeback, it was always fairly close and because of the Tatoh factor Spain were never really behind. T90 just doesn't have the knowledge and game sense to be able to recognize this so he got a bit overexcited thinking it was over, which isn't unusual for him. Still a good game, and Spain certainly had to fight for the win.

It all came down to two moments. First the mega raid by Laan and second the clear with the ratans by Tatho in the bottom right

They should have focused on tatoh instead of lan. tatoh had a hard counter to ethiopians, and fedex had a hard counter to huns.
Even if they hadn't tried to kill tatoh, they maybe shouldn't have been quite so focused on killing lan. They did tons of damage about half-way in. After that they should have tried to hit tatoh. They gave him a lot of time unharassed.

I miss the most recent overlay, I know it broke, but this one is way to noisy to keep track of what is going on requiring a lot more time looking away from the game. Especially on mobile where I watch these videos, the icons are too small and cramped to quickly sift through what you want to identify.

This wasn't a big comeback, it was always fairly close and because of the Tatoh factor Spain were never really behind. T90 just doesn't have the knowledge and game sense to be able to recognize this so he got a bit overexcited thinking it was over, which isn't unusual for him. Still a good game, and Spain certainly had to fight for the win.
