    I have never refurbished any type of furniture but decided this would be a good project since I have more time at home due to COVID. I used this technique on two old nightstands and dresser. It was definitely hard work but they turned out beautifully! It totally changed the look of my room.

    Hi Christina, We bought a Fisher Price dresser for our grandson. We started using Citristrip and it is very hard to remove. We are using a steel wool and denatured alcohol to try to remove the Citristrip and then we will sand it. Is it because this is dresser is MDF that it is so hard to remove the strip and the color?

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  4 роки тому +2

      I've had wax on my kitchen table before, and I think it holds up great. You could also do a second wash with a gray paint just like the white one and coat it with a Water based top coat like General Finishes High Performance Top coat for a more durable finish.

    Can you use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol instead of denatured alcohol since you mixed it with water? From my reading and understanding ISP alcohol has more water in it anyway and denatured alcohol has ethanol added. I am 100% new to all of this. Thanks for the tutorial!

    • @ONLYGOODleftistisaDEADleftist

      If the work piece lamination is very thin, use stripper. Look at these graphics of real wood versus laminated wood product and engineered wood product. --->>> qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-a5ea203690e7444b9bb19105bc7da00a-c

      @codacreator6162 3 роки тому

      You can usually tell by looking for the bare exposures inside drawers or at the rear or bottom of the piece. Plus, solid wood furniture is seriously expensive. If your piece came from a chain like Ikea or Ashley, it's very likely not solid wood. The other option to either sanding or stripping is to choose to finish over the existing finish. Of course, that means you are limited in your options, but many of the current chalk paint options that are so popular recommend application over the existing finish with little to no prep.

    I bought a sleigh trundle bed for my daughter. It looks as if it was a super light stain and poly. So it looks like natural wood. I wanted to do a weathered wood look and this is super close if not perfect. It is solid oak. I’m thinking I need to use the darker stain before the white wash? To get the look you have.
    And does it need to set for 30 days before she can use the bed ( the wax coat you mentioned Ed leaving sit for 30 days). Love this tutorial!

    • @ChristinaMuscari
      @ChristinaMuscari  5 років тому

      You will need to remove the current finish before you can start this process. Since it's a bed, you won't need to wait a full 30 days. I just say that for items like dressers that will have stuff set on them. Email me if you have more questions. christina@prettydistressed.com

      You are so nice. I actually struggled with hormonal acne for the past year. It has finally cleared up! I have lots of foundations I use, but for this video it was Cover FX Power Play and Maybelinne Fit Me (Dewy & Smooth) mixed. I wear a LOT of foundation when I'm on camera, so that is why it looks good. LOL. Might be a bit much in person.

    • @MLK7788

      @@ChristinaMuscari well you definitely cant tell you ever had acne. Your a beautiful girl but sometimes when you develop something like acne will make you feel so insecure about yourself. But remember what you see in the mirror isn't what other people see. I tell that to my daughter who is 12 now all the time. I know about hormonal issues. I've always been around 130 all my life and I gained like 30pds after my son! Didnt fit into anything. Likely lately I've been able to loose but i felt so terrible about myself when i looked in the mirror i would avoid it at all cost. But my husband who loves me for some reason lol would tell me that all the time and it's so true. Anyway ur beautiful and ur makeup is awesome and ur furniture is amazing!

    I am trying to refinish dining chairs, so there are many pieces and nooks and crannies. Do you think it would be easier to use something like citri-strip, or an electric sander + sandpaper combo?

      Electric Sander and sandpaper combo. The stripper pile up in the cracks I think. Good luck. That will be a lot of work.

    Man!! I’m glad I went through videos and videos and got to yours!! I already started sanding a dark wood dresser and night stand similar to your colors . I had this idea look I wanted but couldn’t figure out how to get there . My wood grains came out beautiful so I wanted to keep that original pattern . But I was afraid of staining weathered grey . They say it really soaks in. But this wash out white and grey wax looks great! I’m going to try it. My only question was why wait 30 days to use the he furniture? Why not use a clear coat that’s usually used to protect the wood ? Or did I miss that step? Thanks again!!

    Why not just paint over the stain? Does chalk paint not adhere to stained furniture?

      I could have painted over it, but I wanted to see the wood grain on this piece and go for this natural, driftwood look.

    Thank you so much for all of your videos. You have inspired me! This Barnwood look is what I am trying to achieve. I noticed that the top of your nightstand looks different than the rest of the piece. Is it just stained w/ the grunge gray with no white wash?

      It just looks different because it was easier to strip the stain from the top so there was less of that brown residue. It was all done the same way.

    How do you dispose of all the stripper and stain that you take off with the scraper? Does it go in the garbage?

    Beautiful! What orbital sander do you recommend and why? I usually try and be frugal but appreciate a quality product. Thanks.

    I LOVE this finish! I am researching/preparing to refinish my dining table and chairs. Is the wax finish enough protection for a dining table? I would prefer to achieve something as close to this as possible.

      I have wax on my dining table, and it's held up well for me. I always use placemats to protect it while eating.
