Hola Richard, another lovely video, and you definitely don't talk too much. We like seeing it all, the work, the chatting, the running about, everything, so don't try to change. As for the fireplace, lay the bricks flat, don't need a high hearth. We have very similar in this house, and it's perfect. Don't try to be too particular, it's a naturally beautiful, rustic house. The exposed brick wall is going to look lovely. Everything you do shows the pleasure your getting, even though it's hard work. We two years in with this property, many years older, not as fit, but love every minute. That glass of wine watching the sunset makes it all worthwhile. Love from our mountain in Spain ❤️
I've watched from the beginning and it feels like you are really getting the hang of everything. The videos have improved and your commentary feels like you are much more comfortable. The drone footage to give us a look at what Marche looks like was excellent. Keep up the good work!!
Just an idea!!!... cement the bricks upright and then purchase a stone slab" the length of the fireplace " to be placed on top of the bricks😊....I'm a retired Stone Mason!!👍
Thanks @josephburgio9843 . I have tried with the bricks that I had there (see next video) but if that does not look so good then a stone slab would be fantastic.
Hi @craigwootton721 . Thank you - I would love to but I have not seen that sort or rental / service near me. I did ask for someone to help but the quote was rediculous! I will get it away to the tip in a few runs no problem. The scrap metal will be picked up for free.
It’s just a lovely idea to reuse what was originally in the house. Rustic is good. For me it’s not about making it look old. It’s about making it look authentic. You are doing a great job and will have a beautiful home.😊
I am coming back to your little deck.........somehow you must save it or replicate it. That opening episode when you built it I thought, "why" tiny and out of place, now.... That deck represents to me why you are doing what you are doing.
In the fireplace, instead of having a line of original stone vertically, how about putting a course or two of ordinary bricks with the old ones horizontally on the top as you're exposing brick on the wall it may tie it together, or render them before topping off. I like your new sawing horse by the way! 🤣
Yes, I agree, horizontally placed tiles will visually tie in with the other bricks in the room and look more harmonious giving subtle repetition. Vertically they reminded me of broken teeth… I hope you haven’t already cemented them in place? 🥴🤣🤣
Agree. Horizontal would work better as having them vertically, your eye is drawn to them rather than the fireplace as they don't go with the surrounding size and form.
HI @HoosierInUtah I do watch . @AtelierMavi its brilliant - really helpful and they show the detail really well. I watched them clean the floor tiles that they bought one by one...great work. As I moved my new floor tiles into the house (this next video) I was thinking of them and wondered if cleaning old ones would be easier than moving the 600 that I moved.😁
OK, Ok, if i still lived in England, Cheshire to be precise, i would be saying Carry on, Carry on, just binged your videos for the last two days, too hot for the garden at 40c. Great vids, warts, and all. Keep them coming.
Lovely video. You are coming along incredibly well, considering that you still have to day job and all those shopping trips, it’s a lot to do for one person. Fireplace bricks, just go with your instincts, your original plan, the look that you keep envisioning. You can’t go wrong with that. Go for it.
I tried that but felt they were too uneaven being at the front and that it needed dressing up in some way. It comes out well...next video shows its progress.
Have you no shame sunbathing with your hammer hanging out >.< This is another rustic and informative episode, I absolutely adore those blue tiles, they will look very nice indeed.
What beautiful countryside - it actually looks very similar (other than the ages of the homes, of course!) to Northern California when I was growing up and there were far fewer people in the state (only 7 million at that time). We love visiting Italy and, who knows, we may show up in Le Marche!
I bet California was great back then (before the population swelled). Yes - put Le Marche on your list. There is plenty to see and explore. Instagram marchetourism for some inspiration.🙌

Hello (nearby) neighbour. I head that way when going over to Tuscany or Umbria to get on the motorway. That looks like a great spot to expore from. Is it nice and quiet but with great access. 😎
You seem to have the work/life balance down pat which is something that those still participating in the rat race, can't comprehend. Those ppl want everything to be fast paced, which is never going to happen in Italy which of course, you know all about. So thanks for another inspiring video, an amateur who has put his intelligence to work to learn necessary reno skills, instead of just outsourcing everything and getting the job done in 5 minutes. Many of us are exactly where you are, but learning from you and the comments.
Thanks @yvanapantino273 . There are a really great bunch of people helping in the comments. There are so many really useful tips being shared - its lovely.
I love your videos. I always find myself smiling at your humor. My only suggestion would to get yourself a little utility trailer to tow behind your SUV. Save your car interior and haul more things. Cheers 🍻
Hi @emilysopow . I'd love one but have bee toying with changing my car for a while now so have not added the tow bar to this current car. My next car will have a tow bar for sure.🙌
Hey, I used to live and work in Jesi and Senigallia, if you need painter, stucco or drywall work I can recommend you the guy I used to work, in fact his brother in law lives in the Corinaldo. He is a really good, honest, and hardwoorking guy.
Hi @DanijelAkrap thank you. I have my neighnouring farmer and the family that own Terra del Piano helping with local intros. The brother in law will no doubt know Simone. Do you think your contact can do the outside rendering where the finish is like a stone wall look? If so, I'd appreciate that intro. Could you DM me on Instagram or email me if so? Thanks!👍
I'm a bit late with this one but here goes, have you thought of using brick acid for the final stages of cleaning the brick. They'd come up a treat. Absolutely loving your updates. 👍🏼
Brings me back about 20 years when I was getting my bathroom done. Bought 16 boxes of tiles. Loaded them into the boot of my car, parked outside the block where I lived, then needed to get them a) from the boot into my block and onto the staircase, and b) up three storeys and into my flat, on my own. At the time, I almost had heart failure.....and I was in my early to mid-30s.....I needed a bit of a lie down afterwards. Good idea to get the stuff delivered Richard!

Hi Richard! Panic!...awesome band! I was excited to see a new video yd and the brick wall looks great! My son and I watched the giro d'italia a few weeks ago and tonight started the Tour de France (in Italy lol). I was wondering if you got to see any of either of those in person!!?? I keep watching for your town.
Hi @Frenchstarfish3 I did see the Giro but missed the Tour. This year has been badly managed with travel timing but next year I plan to travel around all the big events and fetsivals. I'd love to catch a mountain stage on one of my journeys up/down one day.
Loved the fire and the stars, wow. Love also how you're sharing your struggles as you go through all of this. Refreshing. Keep going and don't worry about being perfect. Perfection is a poor yardstick.
I am watching from South Africa and so enjoying this journey. I love doing DIY and I also battle with the concepts of things. I would dry fit those blocks in the fire place floor first. That way although you have spent the time it will be clear in your head as to Yes or No.
I love the idea that westerners are buying these old places in Italy. It's like the empire coming home. I mean, I'd prefer Italy not have a population crisis in the first place, but this is the second best scenario.
I agree as long as we all repect what the locals want and don't want for their country. There seems to be some great initiatives coming in to try to attract young families to Italy.😊
I’ve not watched the video yet. Just about to get a brew and settle down. Just wanted to say thank you. Your first ever video (my favourite) inspired me to create my own UA-cam storytelling channel. I was working on the basis that if you could be so entertaining and engaging with your streams of consciousness, then maybe I could get away with it too. I’m working my way towards uploading my first videos and I would never have done it if it hadn’t been for you matey. 😊 Thank you. And now for your video. I’m excited…😂
Love the blue tile color. Advice for the fireplace if you want it: use the firebricks you've kept for the inside of the fireplace and then put the tile for the raised part (apron) that extends from the fireplace. You would come out about 40 cm more or less. The tile and the firebricks should be level with each other. You'd have to build up under the tile to get them level. For a really professional look with the tile work you should get the trim pieces. Also, American country girl here, I'm glad you're enjoying country living.
I find making all the decisions myself means I get to the point where I can’t decide anything 😂. I go out and do gardening because I don’t have to think. I just weed and mow the lawn. No thoughts process. If my mind is too full I don’t get clarity. If that happens I just leave it for a few days and go back to it. Normally the decision is easy then.😊
It was by chance that I bought a bungalow. Every other house I viewed was a traditional style farmhouse with living space up stairs (most had the stairs outside of the building) and low ceiling rooms on the ground floor that used to house the animals and tools.
i live 15 minutes from you, in Jesi, i recognized Monte San Vicino from your shot with the beer at minute 9, we share the same view... i'm not from Marche and i think locals underappreciate the region, it's refreshing to see foreigners enjoying it, i really think it's a paradise
Hi @davidelupi6523 This 'best kept secret' thing seems to be doing well. Le Marche toursit board have upped their game and the food / wine of the region is winning some amazing awards. With Italy having so many headline places to see and visit maybe it being away from the crowds is what makes it so special. I love it too. The little festivals that happen all over the place show the area is loved and the locals want to keep that going.
Airbnb in that shed - you've made my day, Richard 😂 British humour is unbeatable. But I think you can take 1.50 euros a night. It has a garden, after all. Entertaining vid as always.
Well, I've just binge watched every episode up to date, and subscribed 👍, and now I'm looking forward to your future videos. I liked that you referenced Martijn's videos, a very different approach and a very different project, but as my house and project will be different from every youtube Italian restoration, it's all insperation, I get ideas from from all the channels, and it's all usefull and entertaining. Keep up the great work, and all the best for the future as you progress through your own particular project. Great videos by the way 👍
Thanks @ianbaxter362 . Are you putting your project up on YT. I'd watch that and I am sure many others would. Learning how you get the planning part sorted etc. would be great....and could help if I ever get this one done to go onto a second one!😁 I really struggled with permissions, as you may have seen. Best wishes for your project.👍
I really enjoy your videos, for me they are credible, telling it like it is, doing up a house on your own in a foreign language. Don't worry its goi g to be great and i think the tree will grow back, nature is very resilent
Wow 🤩 amazing going..keep at it ..soon all will be complete & so looking forward to seeing your beautiful home! Have a wonderful weekend! Thank you for sharing
Great video Richard Brick wall will be beautiful Fireplace and using the bricks in it will be so great Love your time outside and relaxing such a beautiful place Love drone views of area Thank you for sharing your progress in your projects Take care and see you in next video ❤❤❤❤❤❤
oh wow just look at those views! What an absolutely stunning part of Italy. I think that's just jumped up to right near the top of places I've got to visit.
Videos are great - pretty much spot on - so relatable and I wait for each one with eager anticipation and I love the mug of coffee in the morning - my italian in-laws think I am going to explode when I do that so nice to see other brits stretching convention on that front! drive through was great - made me 'home' sick - its a lovely area- have a look further down at Fermo/Porto San Giorgio/ Cupra too - all great places for a day trip to get away from the dust! Stones - to me should be flat as they were - try dry laying them as suggested?
Thanks @peterh7842 there are many great places to explore and I intend to get around and show as many as I can without it turning into a 'travel channel'.😂
Great vid as usual, Richard. A nice relaxed pace and I enjoy your pondering and ramblings as you mentally sort things out in your mind. It's that spontaneous human touch again and we relate because we all do to some extent, or other :-) The house is going to work out well; unassuming and unpretentious, but tasteful and homely, I imagine. Perfect! That said, onto the 'estate grounds'! :-) A little tweaking of the topography, some key structural planting and some simple hard landscaping to tie it all together and then suitably highlighted and edges softened with some interesting herbaceous planting. The whole will look awesome! 👍😀 Might I suggest you start keeping an eye out for trees and plants that catch your eye. Take a pic and note the time of year. Have a wander every now and then through garden centres, nurseries and public gardens. All will bring inspiration. Local advice on climate and heat and water stress tolerance will be invaluable and gardeners are always a nice, friendly and helpful bunch 😊 Don't forget tho': the more you have/own, the more it owns you! Keep it simple 👍😁 Keep up the good work, Richard, you're doing a great job.
Thanks @davidwilkinson333 I am definately looking for low maintenance plants / trees. If I can get the help with the landscaping done then planting should start later this year.🤞
Hi Richard an emotional one for me as you stopped in the lay-by just past my old house on the Arceviese for the Drone. Giacometti as well, I know them well as you say they can get anything, they do jobs as well remember. enjoyed your trips out AN is just lovely.
Hi, Richard, In response to the fireplace dilemma, I'm seeing the nasty red brick box GONE! (Far too 70's Italian expediency - only IMHO). Also, rip out the chimney breast. Then use the small flagstones you've been playing with laid flat like an old Roman pavimento and plonk the stufa on top of them. All this with just a simple 6" black pipe set against your shiny tiles as a background (easily cleaned backdrop to the stove) to just above the stovetop level and then plain white flat wall where the chimney breast currently is. What's the win? Loads more space, clean lines, heating efficiency and you can then use the rest of the tiles to pick up the blue theme elsewhere (kitchen splashback perhaps?) We ripped a similar fireplace out of our tiny villa in Puglia and we haven't looked back. Greetings from Kildare in Ireland. Keep going!
Hi @petercashell9086 . I did consider ripping the whole thing out but then felt that would create a lot more work to make good and I would still be left with a log burner on a slab (of sorts) As it is it feels like a good zone. A focal point and it creates a nice cosy corner that I can work from and turn into a reading lounge area in the future. Who knows, it could all change in the future but that feels ok for now.😊
@threeacresofmarche Hi Richard, Fully understood, and I appreciate your taking the time to respond to my ramblings. I'm 100% engaged with your progress and even shared today's offering by WhatsApp with my wife earlier. In bocca al lupo! Our similar journey continues in Puglia whenever we can visit. Peter
Thanks for the tour of the area….would love to have a little place out there. Regarding your fireplace hearth… the old bricks look great, but being vertical looks a little incongruous to the rest of the house… I would try to use them horizontally.
Lovely and very good job, I didn't know that I will be so attached to your videos. After all, you can level a wall for tiling or coating by a thread it will be easy for you although its old technic. With all greetings from Baghdad to Italy 🇮🇹 ❤❤
Stunning landscape. Just...where are the trees - the forests? The blue tiles looked really nice. I can kinda relate to your situation, as I just purchased a house that also needs a lot of loving care, though not as intense as yours. There was lots of junk, too. I hired a junk removal guy and it was a large cargo van and a huge trailer full of junk.
Hi @BlueAlgon There are large forests towards the lower hills and into the mountains. Plenty of open natural space in this region. Ancona head is a national park (I believe). Have a scoot around google earth and you will see plenty.😊
Hello Richard. Nice video. You are wearing the Azzurro t-shirt, just watching the uefa football game between Switzerland and Italy, so I guess now you are an Italian and shout for Italy 😂 I am very astonished about your camera equipment and drone etc. You manage everything and the videos very professional. Did I miss your video about the new chimney on the roof? (Metall) What stove do you have inside? Wishing you good luck as you move on. Thank you for showing me Marche when I cannot be there.
Hi again Richard thanks for the reply, loved the whole video especially the drone footage. Personally I think the bricks need cutting in half to lower the height in front of the fire place and go up on an angle at each side to meet the brick sides of the fireplace.I think the exposed brick on the outside would look nice the way it is maybe paint some clear brick liquid PVA or something to keep the dust down.Anyway excellent video love the house and I can see the potential and I can visualise what it will look like when it's done.
Have heard of people using 'spirits of salts' to clean the cement of of the bricks, it's apparently cheap and works really well to get the cement colour off. Another great video, I like that you are tackling the outside when the temperature allows, it gives you a break and gets you outside. Great job with the plastering so far.👍
If you bend the corner on the top left edge or corner where you pull over from on the trowel, it lets you get the cement or plaster smooth without the corner digging in.. a plasterer friend taught me that one 😊😉 Great stuff 😎
I used to watch Martijn Doolard but for me personally he became boring, you've filled a little void... "good work man" your channel is excellent, keep up with passing on your knowledge with regard to where you get building supplies etc. My question is... do you have any difficulty in finding building supplies, including conversing with the suppliers or do you speak Italian? I live in Australia and am only six years from retirement (fingers crossed) and intend to do exactly what you're doing... keep up the good work I know I appreciate it.
Hi @daveball7228 . Good questions. Simply put - yes - buying materials is hard work. They are spread all over many businesses and those businesses are not easy to find online. A lot needs ordering in so that makes the language barrier a challenge. There is no doubt you can buy absolutely everything but sourcing these things takes time. I scout for new places as I drive around as although I have been there a few years I am still learning where everything is.
Hi Richard, stand the 2 bricks at the ends of the hearth, but lay the intervening bricks flat. They don't have to be perfect, that's part of the charm. Try a wire wheel on your drill for the brick wall, just hit the bricks or it may remove too much cement/lime? (beats a hammer and chisel) Anyway, keep trucking! Cheers from New Zealand.
Hola Richard, another lovely video, and you definitely don't talk too much. We like seeing it all, the work, the chatting, the running about, everything, so don't try to change. Thank you for watching @celesteaida48 . I am settling in nicely but do hope that I don't start to drive like an Italian! 😂🙌
Another great video. Always go with your initial gut feeling. If you can't say YES immediately, then the answer is NO.

Hey Richard, have you watched any videos from @AtelierMavi ?👀 They have done extensive tile work on their terrace house restoration in Liguria 🇮🇹
HI @HoosierInUtah I do watch . @AtelierMavi its brilliant - really helpful and they show the detail really well. I watched them clean the floor tiles that they bought one by one...great work. Thanks @adelecain1163 the tiles go in great. I will edit out the hammer next time!😂
The colour of your fire in that lighting was amazing, I think you did capture the feeling, stunning.👍

Great to see your progress 👍

Hi @Frenchstarfish3 I did see the Giro but missed the Tour. This year has been badly managed with travel timing but next year I plan to travel around all the big events and fetsivals.
I'd love to catch a mountain stage on one of my journeys up/down one day.
Loved the fire and the stars, wow. Love also how you're sharing your struggles as you go through all of this. Refreshing. Keep going and don't worry about being perfect. Perfection is a poor yardstick.
Perfection is a poor yardstick - I like that.😊
I am watching from South Africa and so enjoying this journey.
Great video! Both content and length! Keep it coming!!!
Thank you @jacquelinehorne6485 . Good luck with getting started on your channel.🙌
HI @violetlight8138 . I am loving the country lifestyle after city life for so long. Those firebrick are being saved for the pizza oven.😍
Great to see an update. Keep charging away at it.
Так интересно как преобразится дом и территория))) В ожидании следующего видео 😊❤
Normally the decision is easy then.😊
Me too. A break on a different job or go for a run usually clears it up for me too.
I love the blue tiles, the terra cotta sounds very nice too, i think with the bricks you were working on, it ‘ll make a very pretty picture
I think it’s a good idea to have a bungalow because of earthquakes.I was in 2 in Sicily years ago.No damage but..
It was by chance that I bought a bungalow. Every other house I viewed was a traditional style farmhouse with living space up stairs (most had the stairs outside of the building) and low ceiling rooms on the ground floor that used to house the animals and tools.
Starting to look great keep up the good work
i live 15 minutes from you, in Jesi, i recognized Monte San Vicino from your shot with the beer at minute 9, we share the same view... i'm not from Marche and i think locals underappreciate the region, it's refreshing to see foreigners enjoying it, i really think it's a paradise
😂 thanks @peterborchers410
Great jobs getting done
Beautiful drive through your car ride
Great video, beautiful scenery, great choice of accompanying music. 👌
Thank you very much!
Hola amigo. Me encanta como estas reconstruyendo tu nuevo hogar. Lo estás haciendo maravillosamente. ❤❤❤❤ felicitaciones.
Thank you @victoriaarango2276
Learning how you get the planning part sorted etc. would be great....and could help if I ever get this one done to go onto a second one!😁
I really struggled with permissions, as you may have seen.
Best wishes for your project.👍
Rustic #25 😂 love your style 😊
I really enjoy your videos, for me they are credible, telling it like it is, doing up a house on your own in a foreign language. Don't worry its goi g to be great and i think the tree will grow back, nature is very resilent
Wow 🤩 amazing going..keep at it ..soon all will be complete & so looking forward to seeing your beautiful home! Have a wonderful weekend! Thank you for sharing
The way you film your proces is very nice.
It’s if you’re in contact with your audience.
Very nice video again, thanks for sharing.
Thanks @lucaspolderman6622
Great video Richard
Brick wall will be beautiful
Fireplace and using the bricks in it will be so great
Love your time outside and relaxing such a beautiful place
Love drone views of area
Thank you for sharing your progress in your projects
Take care and see you in next video ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks @marilynmeade2286😊
@threeacresofmarche your welcome Richard
Thank you for the ❤️ heart
Beautiful! L'Italia e' bella dappertutto! 🙂
Wow Richard, che riprese 😮❤
I would scrounge up some money to hire a tree service crew to trim up / prune all the trees and take others down where it doesn't make sense.
Hi @texmexbbq7085 I tried that and did get some in. What I got for a little over 1,000 euros was really hard to tell if they had actually been. 😂
oh wow just look at those views! What an absolutely stunning part of Italy. I think that's just jumped up to right near the top of places I've got to visit.
Le Marche is worth the time to explore. Plenty of insipiration on the marchetourism Intragram page
Синяя плитка огонь!!!! 👍
It's that spontaneous human touch again and we relate because we all do to some extent, or other :-)
The house is going to work out well; unassuming and unpretentious, but tasteful and homely, I imagine. Perfect! That said, onto the 'estate grounds'! :-) A little tweaking of the topography, some key structural planting and some simple hard landscaping to tie it all together and then suitably highlighted and edges softened with some interesting herbaceous planting. The whole will look awesome! 👍😀
Might I suggest you start keeping an eye out for trees and plants that catch your eye. Take a pic and note the time of year. Have a wander every now and then through garden centres, nurseries and public gardens. All will bring inspiration. Local advice on climate and heat and water stress tolerance will be invaluable and gardeners are always a nice, friendly and helpful bunch 😊
Don't forget tho': the more you have/own, the more it owns you! Keep it simple 👍😁
Keep up the good work, Richard, you're doing a great job.
Hi @caymanblack9567 . Wow - what a lovely place to have lived. The views around that part are amazing! I did not know they do jobs also - thank you.🙌
Y me encanta que no te dedicas a hablar mucho. Es mejor ver un gran trabajo que distraerse. ❤
Thank you @lubnar.al-azzawi6748 greetings to you too.
With that view I don’t know how you drag yourself away to get things done. ❤❤
I keep in mind that the terrace will be better than the deck so can't wait to get a larger area outside and some natural shade to enjoy it even more.😂
Hello Richard. Nice video. You are wearing the Azzurro t-shirt, just watching the uefa football game between Switzerland and Italy, so I guess now you are an Italian and shout for Italy 😂
I am very astonished about your camera equipment and drone etc. You manage everything and the videos very professional.
Did I miss your video about the new chimney on the roof? (Metall) What stove do you have inside?
Wishing you good luck as you move on. Thank you for showing me Marche when I cannot be there.
Hi @dorismeusburger4219 . The metal chimney was already there. It sat over a stove that they had in the middle of that open area.
Just do it! Don’t overthink. If you don’t like it it’s not such a huge effort to knock it back out.I think it will look lovely ❤
I do over think these things sometime.🤦♂️
Have heard of people using 'spirits of salts' to clean the cement of of the bricks, it's apparently cheap and works really well to get the cement colour off. Another great video, I like that you are tackling the outside when the temperature allows, it gives you a break and gets you outside. Great job with the plastering so far.👍
Thanks @neutonrenda2303 . I will take a look - I like the cheap cleaning options best.😁👍
If you bend the corner on the top left edge or corner where you pull over from on the trowel, it lets you get the cement or plaster smooth without the corner digging in.. a plasterer friend taught me that one 😊😉 Great stuff 😎
Thanks @GSA_Drums that sounds like a great tip!
Thanks @icepick1945 . I have picked up a wire wheel to use since filming this.🙌
