Hi Richard, I have been watching your videos, my 8 year old son and wife sat down whilst I was watching and are hooked as well. My son wanted to leave you a encouraging message and asked me to comment as he read that it helps your channel, he said this “you are very nice and passionate and I hope you have a good ending”❤ Melted my heart and I thought I would pass it along bud. Best of luck and keep going👍
Hello @benlukejames and family. That is so nice! You are bringing up a very polite gentleman there - great parenting! Thank you for taking the time to write and say hello.🙌
Hello from Canada. First of all I agree with another commenter I’m very happy no music! You are fearless! Even after finding a scorpion you just carry on! I like living vicariously through you. Thanks for making your videos.
Hi @pinknosechronicles - thanks for watching. I am learning about the music and subtitles as I go on these early videos. Thank you for the feedback - I appreciate it.👍
Hi Richard, Great Videos and the land starts to look really great ! As a Belgian owning property in Italy I would say don’t worry too much ! Things will work out in the end. If you want to speed things up I would advise you to make friends with the locals, whatever your Italian proficiency level is. Sooner or later you will meet someone who knows someone who can help you/ advise you. Don’t hesitate to doll out some little presents (for me as a Belgian it was obviously chocolates & specialty beers). What we need to understand is that we’re in a position of weakness not being aware of « the Italian way », that we are at the mercy of someone wanting to abuse the little power he has or think he has… On the other side, the most admirable thing I discovered in Italy is how far people will go to help you if for whatever reason they feel they have a connection with you ! Create that feeling in them is the endeavour to write on your to do list… the rest will then flow naturally. At least this has been my experience in Abruzzo, not very far away from where you are. In the meantime enjoy the landscape, the food, the sunshine and the historical architectural beauty this land offers you. Notice also the nice job on the street…see it as an indication that they don’t want to lose you !
Thank you @pierrearthur5428 - this has made me smile. Thank you. It is a great place with great people - I don't mind the process as such but the fees to get nothing, or very little, in return. That is what furstrated me and upset me when I made this video as that was the part that did not make sense to me. The neighbours have been great and helpful. My geometra has done all he can - even he struggled with all of this. I hope to meet many more locals as I get further into this adventure. This slight setback lead me to plan 6 which is really positive and feels like the best option anyway. Maybe I got a little too wrapped up in the grand design! Thanks again for taking the time to write.
Hi from Netherlands, Thanks a lot for the videos. We've bought a house in Italy on auction a year ago, and haven't even seen it yet. So many complications and bureaucracy brought me step by step from excitement to fear))) Probably we should make a video about the whole process to enlighten people who are dreaming to get an Italian house cheap. Not to scare them but to know better what to expect. Your videos help a lot to understand what our next steps could/ should/ wiil be. Good luck, Richard!
Hi @VitaSchagen Sorry to hear that. There is a couple that I have spoken to that bought in the North of Italy through auction. While it has taken some time, they are nearly there and have access now, or any day now. It seems that their solicitor has been a big help explaining the process. It seems long but one that gets there in the end. As for a video about the process - yes - I think people would watch that. Good luck with it all and keep us posted on your progress.🙌
@@threeacresofmarche I would watch it...I've been visiting Italy for a few years now, and falling in love more and more. I've done with the concrete jungle we all live in and genuinely thinking about leaving my home country and moving to somewhere else. I would be interested in finding out what budget would an individual need to relocate to Italy and purchase a similar estate? What auctions sites/services are people using?
The bureaucracy in Italy affects everybody, not just ex-pats. It never used to be so slow with constantly changing rules, but I've listened to ppl discussing why Town Halls will not employ more ppl to streamline their service. It seems it is basically a protectionist racket of the employees who have been running things for the last 40-50 years. They don't want any up-starts moving in on their jobs. That's a pretty typical mentality. I was watching an Italian woman complaining the other day about the fact that she put in her plans to develop her bare land in Liguria into a camping ground. She's been waiting for 23 years and still has not been approved. Hopefully you won't have to wait so long.
Hi @yvanapantino273 - I hear similar stories about the job roles from Italians that I have met. I think I have hit the part where people I am not meeting or able to meet are the ones saying no. Every person whats a slice of the pie also - that has made one plan discussion be dismissed simply on the grounds of the cost for 'paperwork'.😂
There is a U-Tube guy in Northern Italy that is renovating a mountain side stone house. He was told by the local authorities that the roof was the only thing he could repair without a lot of red tape.
An option for a portable shower is a mimi hot water instant heater for horses. It hangs on a fence rail, hooks up to garden hose and plugs into a house electrical plug. Wala! Hot shower upon request. Maybe be help in cooler temperatures.
Such a lovely location. It is hard to be patient but be positive. This too will pass. A perfect spot, a well constructed deck, a lawn chair and sun. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are righ @beverlymartin1414 . Simple things are what makes life great....maybe I lost sight of that for a while and got wrapped up in the grand (unnecessary) designs.
I want to say something profound to encourage you, but I don't have those skills. I can say that you're doing something I wish I had done years ago, and you're living a life I'm envious of. My dream is your reality. Just don't give up no matter how hard it seems, tomorrow is another gift.
I've recently started watching your channel, having started with your first video and continuing working my way through to the most recent. I really love watching you working around your property and enjoying the life there. You have such a great attitude and it is very satisfying to watch you making progress cleaning up around your home. I hope your plans work out. From what I've seen, patience and getting to know locals and how things work are the best approaches.
You are right @kevinharker1840 - I don't think the process is the problem - it is the amount of peopel in the process and them all wanting some money for no or little value is the real problem. Time will tell but I am sure it will all work out.
The 'still' of you standing on the deck , at sunset, is a classic. At some point would love to get your take on Marche region and house prices compared to other regions. Anyway, deep breathing, wine and good food as you say, all help with the 'grrrrr' moments.
Thank you @MairiPerrett . I will cover why I chose Le Marche , why it suited me, and what I felt I needed from a location. Property prices still vary broadly but in general I felt that you get a lot more for your money.
My family is all in the Marche, with the exception of my mother and dad who left there in the 1950's. I love it there and I hope, eventually, you will feel like you're part of the community. Italian bureaucracy is pretty notorious, but I've heard much the same about Portuguese and German bureaucracy. Patience is a virtue at times like these. In the meantime, get it as cleaned up as you can. I'll be visiting in September for a wedding.
Hi @Reet64 . Sounds advice. Thank you. Enjoy the wedding! I hear some wedding parties that are taking place 10 miles away! They sound like epic events😂
I think so. I hope so. The locals near me are all very friendly and I am getting some lovely comments on here from Italians, which means a lot to me. There are obvioulsy a few not so nice comments but that is to be expected these days I suppose.
Highly addictive viewing. Watched all 12 vids back-back. Where does this guy get his energy from?🤔. Truly is living the dream. So glad this journey is available to watch....extremely entertaining. Good on you Richard... this is all very impressive.
I spent 4 years (while in the military) in Northern Italy. I returned for a vacation visit last year (some 37 years after the last time I was in Italy). Needless to say, much had changed. I now live in California. There many Italians from the Lucca area that live here. They all seem to hate Italy and will only go back to visit relatives. I was married to an Italian lady while I was in the service, so I have a quite different perspective. During this vacation time I traveled to the Lucca area and I saw a big difference from the Italy I know (Trentino-Alto Adige area). Tuscany appears to be a lot more "slow moving" culture than the north. More antiquated mentality and their ways of doing things. Not to say that the north is more advanced, but there appears to be a culture that is more interested in progress. All-in-all, being that you are basically living there, I would say that you might want to "adapt" or think more like they do. I found that you can't really use the ways you were use to, and the old saying is applicable here, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do".
Very true, lived in the Veneto for 25 years.... and found them very polite and efficient, the more south you go the harder it gets, sadly there it's all about who you know. A real pain for the migrants of course. 🫤
Thank you @2quintly - I agree 100%. My disapointment was to go around the houses many, many times with 'experts' advising on what would pass and what would not to get to a point with a massive bill for 'paperwork' and a plan that I would have not entertained from the very start had the experts have known what was coming. The rest - the Italian way - I actually like it. As I say at the end - it can be quite funny and fun sometimes. 😊 I think that once I am away from the permission part and free to get on with things that it will all be a nice, steady, path to a beautiful home. (I am only there part time BTW - 90 day rule for me as a Brit).
@@threeacresofmarche Ahh... la bella vita in 3 months of hard, back breaking work 🤣 You know what they say in Naples? "Eat, drink and be merry because tomorrow we may die!" Well you're not living under Vesuvio but don't forget to do those other things too, except for the dying part! 😉
Man Italy seems like a place they actively don't want anything to change yet simultaneously have a horrendous population and looming fiscal problem. Crazy given what you want to do with you land is nothing extreme.
There are a lot of things in Italy that work better and are planned better than my home counrty (England). It is a great place to be. There will be a way through the planning. I just need to learn more and take my time.😊
I can totally see how the red tape is so testing but i agree it's the culture, I know around here certain parts of the city are protected against change except for the very rich. Following your journey & loving it!
Hi @trevorsmith8603 , some of the rules are very fair and I fully agree with. There was one issue over the position of a building that came down to 50cm that got silly. I will put that in the video I make on the stages of the plans that I went through and what I have learnt after it all. I will find a way through without braking the bank!🤞😄
money talks for sure , and no doubt they'll milk the project for all it's worth . i certainly understand the frustration . hang in there and buy some envelopes to hand out cash
Thanks @patcardiff2563 . Some are near Olive and fruit trees so I was worried that anything like that may damage the trees I am trying to save? When you say replace, what do you mean - replace with what?👍
Richard, you found the secrete to life; enjoy the sunshine, eat good food and drink lovely wine. Love it. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey.
It is so lovely seeing you getting on with your clearing of the land ,keep going things will get better just do the things you can slowly no rush enjoy your lovely home while waiting 😊.
Love your editing! You have a wonderful voice that is pleasing to listen to! Yes, Italy is very very slow when it comes to homestead property. But, be patient. It will work out. In the mean time, draw up 30-40 different plans and run them by us. You wonder if Italy wants to see simple plans that doesn't' take up excess land. But do start including plans to enlarge using up some of the percentage. But keep it simple and the building structure to enhance Italy's style. See you next week!
Thank you @sherry9088 . I am really struggling with the sound levels but am learning as fas as I can. I think I need some new camera equipment! My current plan (plan 6) is so simple that it has no barrier or silly tax costs associated. I think I will play with my 'allocation' another day when I know more people and maybe have a better road into the town hall. 👍 Now that the big plan is off, I am in no mad rush. The family are happy to 'glamping' for the next few holidays.😂
Don’t give up ❤ I bought a house 3 years ago with some “peculiarities”, and joined the renovation fight club …. I wanted to give up 4 times but I should say I’m lucky that we don’t have bureaucracy with private houses building in the place where I live 3 years of nonstop work and I still have something to be renovated I can imagine what you’re facing - I worked 15 years for one of the greatest Italian companies …. Love it no matter what … i even started loving game changing 😂😂😂😂 this is a typical cure for boredom
Hi from Australia! I stumbled upon your Chanel recently and have been enjoying watching your videos. You have chosen a very picturesque part of the world to live in. Best of luck with your plans and renovations, Richard xo
Don't worry. Relax. The most important thing is probably this beautiful view, and no one can take it away from you. I'm definitely envious of it 🙂 Greetings from Poland.
they can't take the view away due to all the regulations they have. Ironic for this video when seeing the issues rebuilding/extending for house owners but an irony that is good as you're attracted for the views. I do know that Marche is a favourite place for Italians to holiday ( try going there in august) just because it is very unspoilt and unspoilt due to building regulations that are there to keep it unspoilt as far as possible to preserve what it is.
Good point @bjornssecrets9299 . It does get very busy over holiday season along the coast and agree with you re the unspoilt parts. I loved the place because it is unspoilt. My plans were in keeping....they just got out of control on the minute details and paperwork costs. I will show what happened in a video soon. All in all, I will keep it simple and in keeping regardless.👍
I just watched a video on another channel about how thousands are leaving Italy bc of the bureaucracy. Such a shame since it is so beautiful. It sounds like the only way to avoid the government headache is to buy property that is finished to your liking. Not economical but there is so way I'd have the patience to deal with the unknown. Great job on your videos - thx for sharing.
Thank you @TK-76054 . Finished houses seem to sell very well indeed here....but I did not have the budget for one of those.😂 The Italian dream on a shoestring is probably what I should have called this.
I think in a lot of rural places, it's more about your face and them knowing you than hard and fast rules. I think once you become settled they will become more relaxed with you and your future plans will grow. You're doing an incredible job against all odds.
be careful, in Italy there is usocapione, if someone uses for example your lands for a tot of years, he can open a cause and say it is him the owner, difficulut to explain
Hi @monteschiavo - you are right - before I bought the house and land (it was two transactions) it was offered to all the neighbouring land owners. They had first refusal. That cleaned the slate of any claims for me. Phew!😅
Hello from Spoleto, Umbria - we live in York and bought our place last year. Your videos are very relatable, the mad weather, the paperwork and the magic of Italy.
Richard Perkins of Ridgedale Farm has sloping land like you. If you're looking for inspiration for your land you might pick up a few good ideas there. Beautiful spot you chose
Thank you @KlausKastrup I will try take a look. The new rules for my region are justifued - there was a terrible storm two years or so ago that caused devastation and a few lives were lost. The protection against landslides is fair - I will have to follow the local rules on this, which I have no issue with.👍
I know you will find this comment a bit strange, but... your trials, tribulations and set backs with your calm and patient demeanor make for a great adventure. It is heartening to see someone that takes these issues and the local process and is able to come out on the other side with his goal still in sight, even if it may be a different path to take. Just a couple of questions about your local, how far is the town from you? How large is it, and how have the locals treated you? And once again, thank you for these brief moments in your adventure and I and my brothers (this has got us three thinking) wish you well.
Hi @davidlanders2853 - thank you for your comments. It is hard to get things over in a 20 minute video. In reality, while some things seem difficult, and I don't want to get into having a channel full of drama, in the grand scale of things it is all quite straight forward. *caveat that - parking....I don't think I will ever understand the parking signs! 😂 Corinaldo is the town - it is walking distance or 5 minutes in a car. The area has every facility you could need so while it looks isolated, it is not really. The locals have been great. As I spend more time there some are realising that I am not just on holiday and are very friendly. Things like banking and sorting of utilities is easy. 👍
I forwarded a note to my brothers on your comments, we are now scheduling a beer and zoom meeting to discuss "things" You may get some unwanted American neighbors....:-)@@threeacresofmarche
One great way of venting your frustration in times such as these is to split logs, not with some electric thing, but with an axe, a couple of steel wedges and a big sledgehammer. Just imagine every log as a piece of red tape and after half an hour, or so, you should feel a bit more relaxed about the situation and have a stack of logs ready for the fire into the bargain. It's either that or a beer on the deck.
Hi @richardseaton6390 - I agree. Any time I get too wrapped up in it I remind myself of the weathe, the traffic and other (enter swear word here) that goes on in the UK. Italy is easier in many ways.😎
The deck alone makes it all worthwhile :) The drone footage really does showcase the magical views of the entire area as well. Pretty cool! ( i'm going to try to figure out how to use a drone shortly myself.. fingers crossed it's as easy as it looks? lol ) Hopefully Italy rolls out their digital nomad visa soon and lessens the red tape re building and construction. Surely they can quicken the process while still maintaining integrity of the buildings and area. 🙏
Hi @angeltravelstheworld - I am keeping everything crosssed for a nice digial nomad process....but worry the tax may make it not that appealing. It takes a while to get good with a drone. My top tip is slow drone movements look better on camera that fast flying around.🙌
@jameshennephof4045 😂 - I watch a few of his videos. Love his channel and the houses he gets to see. But, he says that 0.5million for a small house is a bargain....I think he may have a different budget than I do.😂
It´s true, in 2024 is not possible anymore to expand the house. The actual government changed a few things lately, I´m affected by it as well for the first house tax benefits for example. Italian bureucracy is frustrating and dumb. Anyway I wouldn´t throw or burn anything from the pruning waste and use it for organic mulch. Hope to come visit somewhen! Cheers!
Hi @gianlucagulino143 - I will be mulching when I am more organised and know which part of the land to get that all set up. I may make the bottom corner of the land a full composting and mulching 'thing'.👍
Thé sea is so therapeutic….your land is beautiful. Fingers crossed that things work out for you and you can be at peace with whatever turbulent Italian bureaucracy throws at you. ❤
Hi Richard, watching from Toronto (Canada). Love your videos, your camera control doesn't make me nauseous like some videos that swing around too much do, so that's a huge bonus for me, but I also like that you let the visuals do most of the talking, it makes for a very relaxing glimpse into your life as you build your dream. Don't let beaurocracy get you down, you still have a beautiful property and lifestyle even as it is.
Thank you @jflo2023 . I really appreciate the feedback. There may be the odd chatty one coming up to answer some of the questions but I hope that the visuals do, do most of the talking and explaining for me as I improve on the storytelling part of filming.😊
We have a small house in Mexico. Doing things officially is exhausting. We discovered we have a totally different experience if we take a neighbour / citizen with us we get more efficient service. Also there are fixers available for hire. They know the beurocracy well, have direct phone numbers for the right people. We got legal things done promptly and without waffling .
Hi @joyceprocure1644 Your project sounds great! I am sure it will get there. I think my advice on what would pass was where the main mistake was made. Most things here work extremely well. Utility bills - and they fixed the road for me no problem - all good in many, many areas. Best wishes to you. 👍
Hi Richard just watched a couple of your videos. We lived in Arcevia for 15 years in an old restored farmhouse between Pitichio and Montale, miss Italy lots.I recognise your area well.good luck.
I think tackling it alone, and the additional culture shock involved in a project that involves massive bureaucracy, makes it especially tough to get shut down. Thank you for sharing the ups and the downs. It'll get sorted.
Hi, I like your channel so far. We moved to the south of France 20 plus years ago, and have had more or less all the same problems as you here. Like you say patience is a virtue. Piano piano or petit a petit things get sorted eventually. Good luck going forward. Personally I don’t consider myself as an expat, more of an immigrant
Hi @chriswebb9518 20 years in France sounds bliss. I will be back and forth for a while until I decide what to do regarding visas. The 90 day rule works ok at the moment.👍
Heartbreaking. I cannot imagine the frustration and circular bureaucracy. So many of us dream of moving to Italy (I'm in Norway), but stories like this must keep many from pulling the trigger. Alas, I think you'll get there. Eventually. Keep drinking in that glorious light. ...And wine.
Hi @maxe.8336 - don't be put off. Plan 6 is solid and I will show how I get there. I think it is important to show that it is not just a walk in the park and there are a few hurdles along the way but hope that some looking to do the same can take some tips from my mistakes. I hope your dream comes true for you. Good luck.👍
Great to see you also take the time to enjoy your new project and the weather - night and day compared to typical British weather... 👍👍 And you NEED the right tools - a digger to pull up roots and level it all - you need to do any job proper and only once - with roots in the ground you`ll get new growth - bite the bullet - rent a digger - rent a cultivator get it done in one go....👀👀
You're right @thomasbee5218 . There was going to be somebody to come and clear. I do have hire options but waited. The terraine around these awkward corners would be difficult for me (with no experience) to navigate. Lots of landscaping to do - that permission is coming and I will get the machinery in. I am considering buying one....but cannot really afford a massive outlay atm.👍
Hi @mertenspeter4680 . Thank you. I see many hard prune and pretty much scalp their trees! I don't think I will be using the olives for few years so may go gentle on the pruning while I learn how hard to cut back. These trees have not been cut for years and I am worried a hard prune may be a sharp, and damaging, shock to them.
@@threeacresofmarche You don't have to be afraid of too much pruning. If you put it off, you will get an empty spot in the middle of the tree which will make future pruning difficult. An olive always grows back. Good luck.
There’s a channel called The Newbys (in Portugal) that are having problems getting their plans approved too. I’m thinking that media attention to the problem, with viewers interested in investing in their countries might eventually spur efficiency and sensible decision making within the various departments making the decision but you guys are the ground breakers.
Hi @jennichristie5264 . I am watching that channel also. I suppose putting these things on UA-cam could go either way for us. Used as an example to be shut down or an advert for more people to come if the barriers are made a little easier to navigate. Time will tell.😊
It seems counter intuitive to have so many obstacles when half of the buildings are falling apart. Everything seems to be kicking and screaming into the 21st came centurie. I love Italy, have visited twice as my father's family comes from there, but I found a lot of very run down places, maybe this is why. Great progress though, love your content.👍
Thank you @neutonrenda2303 . I agree. As wonderful as it is, updating the old buildings before adding new may not be a bad idea. It will be interesting to see how those regions trying the One Euro House schemes work out.
Your channel has grown quite nicely from your first post. Do what you can at this time. Go slow and get to know your neighbors and people in town. I’m sure they see you as an outsider with some $’s wanting to change your piece of paradise. Patience my friend patience.
@@threeacresofmarche regarding your wood pile. May i suggest you cut the wood before you stack. More surface area=less drying time. And cover the top 1/3 with a tarp to keep out moisture. Cheers
Hi @TAG993 - new terminology for me so apologies for the silly questions. Cut and split - do you mean cut them to lenght (12 inches or so) and then stack or do you suggest I split the 12" pieces also? Is it easier to split dried wood or it is easy enough to split fresh cut wood? Thanks.👍 PS - I don't see me needing any of this for fire wood until winter '24.
Hi Richard, great to see what you've been up to and really sorry you're having so many issues. It looks like a stunning part of the world though and I'm sure you will get there eventually. Stick with it!! 👏
Honest vlog. Whatever your plans and the decisions of the commune regarding the house, keep in mjnd the surroundings, the weather, the lifestyle and your peace of mind. Go with the (Italian) flow.
I am starting to appreciate the flow and realise that going against it or tryint to change that is just a waste of energy and emotion. Thank you @ralph6115
I've just started following your channel. Lovely, lovely setting. It must be very frustrating to continually get mixed feedback on your plans. Hopefully, something will work out. Suggestion, can you try using a different font for the subtitles. It is very difficult to read this font. Thanks, look forward to your next video.
Hi @hansejr - thank you for the feedback. I am trying different fonts as I appreciate that over 50% of the audience are from non English speaking countries. Thank you for the feedback.👍
Hi Richard, all your work reminds me of a similar project I did not too far away from you near Cingoli. Unfortunately the credit crunch 'got me' and I had to let it go. Great to see you doing so well and jumping the planning hurdles. Don't give up.
Oh goodness stunning views!! - I think you are doing a great job and also a great job of communicating on your blog! Really also enjoy how informative your vids have been! ..Julie
Thanks @juliegoodison7476 . I am trying to get that balance of deeper content for those that want to know a lot more versus those that just enjoy this to wash over them. Feel free to ask questions or contact me via the website or DM (which is a work in progress also...)
Very interesting vlog! I keep wondering why you keep using a weed wacker and don’t get a decent bush hog or lawn mower. You won’t be so worn out. On Kramer Life he has a mower looking vehicle that will mow and bush hog and pull a little trailer. It is amazing how this works for him. I hope you don’t give up. Italy is difficult but if they weren’t everyone would be there. So it’s a two edged sword. Best wishes.
Thank you @priscillajones623 I will take a look at what he uses. I am finding glass, metal, asbestos, all sorts so in these early days going slower is safer. Once cleared and I know what is in there I can get a mower through it all.👍
I’ve heard this before with Planning in Italy. The thing I found surprising was the removal of the kitchen cabinetry etc.as an Australian anything in the house etc at the signing of paperwork cannot be removed, plus no rubbish or the leaving of old machinery, unwanted items by the previous owner can be left. I should think with so many abandoned houses and small villages that the councils would be more supportive of those from other countries are more than happy to buy and want to respect and retain the original design of the farms and houses. While you’re just one, you’ve increased spending in the local timber yard and stores. I’m still catching up, so I’m hoping in the later videos you have a satisfactory resolution.
Great stuff Richard, the sort of thing I would love to do but now into my 64th year so not sure I can manage it anymore so will have to just languish here in Thailand for the time being. All the best mate
I'm sure you will stay positive. As you know, life has a slower pace in Italy. Its part of the appeal, but it can frustrate occasionally. Keep the commune informed and they will come around. I did smile when you were talking about Tony turning up in a jacket. You do become acclimatised. I remember at the end of 2017, it had been 39-40℃ for a great part of that summer, with an awesome olive harvest. One evening in November, I was feeling a bit cold and I went in and grabbed a sweatshirt. I then checked the temp, it was 24℃ ! LOL I'm trying to figure out where this video is ie month/year. I'll be heading back down late March and driving down the Adriatic. Maybe I could look in if you are about?
Funny @dougowt . I found that after spending around a month there in one go I started to feel like I may need a layer when going out in the evenings!😂😎 I have started to note the time of year on screen as many ask. I need to make the screen titles clearer. I am planning my next few trips soon so may be there end of March.👍
HI @joes2085 . Thank you for the feedback. A few mentioned this so I changed the font over the next few videos. As you watch through you will see the improvements made from the feedback I received. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know what is working from a views side.👍
Your right, plot but of a tip where flood road repairs and old derelict bairns but hey beautiful spot, just make house comfy as you like, clear rubbish away, plant some flowering bushes, fruit trees and put your feet up😅
Hello Richard just seen your video, you just have to get used how things work out in Sunny Italy I've been in Italy since 1964 I was a wee boy and I love it.I live in the north west Pinerolo, near Turin I wish you the best of luck
Thank you @bernarddaly6941 . I think as I adjust I realise that my expectation were wrong - not the process. I love it here and feel the stress drip off as soon as I cross the border.😊

Hi Richard,
Great Videos and the land starts to look really great !
Yep nothing makes sense even if you were Italian there is no way of understanding it - mi dispiace!
That's actually the mentality across this part of Europe, in countries like Italy, Bulgaria, Ungaria, Romania etc. bribery and nepotism leads the way
Do they take bribes?
I shouldn’t even have to ask that question, they should be doing their jobs anyways.
Chin up, mate. I've never watched one of these UA-cam restoration series where there wasn't hiccups in the road
Thanks @Raylan_323 . I had a few hiccups after the wine that helped me see it for what it was, thats for sure!😂 All good now - plan 6 is solid.🙌
@@threeacresofmarche I look forward to watching it unfold!

An option for a portable shower is a mimi hot water instant heater for horses. It hangs on a fence rail, hooks up to garden hose and plugs into a house electrical plug. Wala! Hot shower upon request. Maybe be help in cooler temperatures.
Thank you @bogusienombre355 . Great idea. That would work while I build something more permanent.👍
Don’t get discouraged by the bureaucracy. Unfortunately Italy, as beautiful as it is, it also has this to counterbalance its beauty. Enjoy
Hi @mimo98 . In fairness, it is not much different in the way planning happens in England. It will all work out for the best.😊
This is a nice bucket of ice water on all the hothead videos saying how amazing it is to buy a cheap house in italy
I want to say something profound to encourage you, but I don't have those skills. I can say that you're doing something I wish I had done years ago, and you're living a life I'm envious of. My dream is your reality. Just don't give up no matter how hard it seems, tomorrow is another gift.
Oh but you do @rayjermyn4541 . Your first sentence says it all - thank you! I hope your dream finds its way to you one day. 🙌
Sorry to hear things aren't going to plan. Don't be too dispirited, sometimes the simpler the better. Have another glass of wine!
The Italians do it their way, full stop.
Thank you @lucywattridge1946 - it will work out I am sure. Maybe I was too trusting in the advce I took.
@@threeacresofmarche it’s been ages since I attended one. Like half a lifetime ago. I imagine the sounds would travel well around the hillside.

I think so.
Hi @reesemorgan2259 . Thank you. And thank you for doing the binge watch!😂🙌
I think that once I am away from the permission part and free to get on with things that it will all be a nice, steady, path to a beautiful home. (I am only there part time BTW - 90 day rule for me as a Brit).
Hi @lagringa7518 - fair comment and in all honesty I chose this area because of its slow pace.
@@threeacresofmarche Ahh... la bella vita in 3 months of hard, back breaking work 🤣
You know what they say in Naples? "Eat, drink and be merry because tomorrow we may die!" Well you're not living under Vesuvio but don't forget to do those other things too, except for the dying part! 😉
Man Italy seems like a place they actively don't want anything to change yet simultaneously have a horrendous population and looming fiscal problem. Crazy given what you want to do with you land is nothing extreme.
There are a lot of things in Italy that work better and are planned better than my home counrty (England). It is a great place to be. There will be a way through the planning. I just need to learn more and take my time.😊
Keep your chin up, it's Italy, things are slow and like you said there always many options. Good luck!!!
Thank you @P13N5 - I think I was more upset about having to clear those barns myself!😂

Best thing for ivy pour ordinary salt water it in then replace if you cut trees down hammer copper nails to kill roots been there done it all
Thanks @patcardiff2563 . Some are near Olive and fruit trees so I was worried that anything like that may damage the trees I am trying to save? When you say replace, what do you mean - replace with what?👍

Now that the big plan is off, I am in no mad rush. The family are happy to 'glamping' for the next few holidays.😂
Patience and perseverance. Quite the journey you are on.
From an Italian born that move to the USA.. Italia is beautiful if you can outlast the socialism and bureaucracies. Good luck.

Don’t give up ❤
I bought a house 3 years ago with some “peculiarities”, and joined the renovation fight club …. I wanted to give up 4 times but I should say I’m lucky that we don’t have bureaucracy with private houses building in the place where I live
3 years of nonstop work and I still have something to be renovated
I can imagine what you’re facing - I worked 15 years for one of the greatest Italian companies …. Love it no matter what … i even started loving game changing 😂😂😂😂 this is a typical cure for boredom
Hi @TatianaKrylova . If it was boring then where would the fun and reward be!😂🙌
Hi from Australia! I stumbled upon your Chanel recently and have been enjoying watching your videos. You have chosen a very picturesque part of the world to live in. Best of luck with your plans and renovations, Richard xo
Thank you @purplewombat1923 glad you found the channel.🙌
Don't worry. Relax. The most important thing is probably this beautiful view, and no one can take it away from you. I'm definitely envious of it 🙂 Greetings from Poland.
they can't take the view away due to all the regulations they have. Ironic for this video when seeing the issues rebuilding/extending for house owners but an irony that is good as you're attracted for the views. I do know that Marche is a favourite place for Italians to holiday ( try going there in august) just because it is very unspoilt and unspoilt due to building regulations that are there to keep it unspoilt as far as possible to preserve what it is.
Hi @fijau thank you. You are right...I bought it for the space and the view so maybe I got too wrapped up in the build for a while.😂
Good point @bjornssecrets9299 .
It really is a challenge, but perhaps plan 6 or 20 will turn out to be the best plan ever.. good luck, you’ll get there
I think in a lot of rural places, it's more about your face and them knowing you than hard and fast rules. I think once you become settled they will become more relaxed with you and your future plans will grow. You're doing an incredible job against all odds.
I think you are right @Stoobers . Thank you.🙌

Or both! Thank you @timburton5280 - great advice!😂🙌

Nick Farrand, Italian one take tours, get hold of him, he'll help you out !!

Don't forget to prune the olive trees in march or april. They will give more olives and leaves in the future.
Good luck.

Thank you @neutonrenda2303 . I agree. As wonderful as it is, updating the old buildings before adding new may not be a bad idea. It will be interesting to see how those regions trying the One Euro House schemes work out.
It's the journey, not the destination. Smell the roses along the way
Good advice @marcelcicort9671 . Thank you.
Your channel has grown quite nicely from your first post. Do what you can at this time. Go slow and get to know your neighbors and people in town. I’m sure they see you as an outsider with some $’s wanting to change your piece of paradise. Patience my friend patience.
Good advice @TAG993 . Thank you. Slow and steady wins the day.
The channel has certainly hit the ground running and is keeping me very busy!😄
@@threeacresofmarche regarding your wood pile. May i suggest you cut the wood before you stack. More surface area=less drying time. And cover the top 1/3 with a tarp to keep out moisture. Cheers
Hi @TAG993 - new terminology for me so apologies for the silly questions. Cut and split - do you mean cut them to lenght (12 inches or so) and then stack or do you suggest I split the 12" pieces also? Is it easier to split dried wood or it is easy enough to split fresh cut wood? Thanks.👍
PS - I don't see me needing any of this for fire wood until winter '24.
@@threeacresofmarche correct, just split your logs to 4-5 pieces and then stack. Dry wood will burn cleaner and more efficiently. Hope this helps.
You are creating something new out of a ruin, and that is never easy. You will succeed.
Thank you @carolmacrini7757🙌
Hi Richard, great to see what you've been up to and really sorry you're having so many issues. It looks like a stunning part of the world though and I'm sure you will get there eventually. Stick with it!! 👏
Thank you @jimgott2405 . Slow prgress but rewarding all the way. It will all work out I'm sure.🙌
Hello! I'm enjoying your videos. Keep up the good work.
Thank you @haddockpaddock . I hope I can figure out the sound levels soon...glad you like the content though.🙌
Thank you for the feedback.👍
kia ora from New Zealand. you have beautiful land, home and scenery. will be even more spectacular as you progress🌄
Hi @luanahohua8443 - thank you. small steps..🤞

Thank you @derekbeauchamp1501 . Small steps....it will get there.😄
hey there from South Africa .
I am so sorry about this .like rules are rules any case hang in there .like watching you Peter
Thank you @user-ey4ss1fq3t Peter, It will all work out I'm sure. 👍
Hi Richard, all your work reminds me of a similar project I did not too far away from you near Cingoli. Unfortunately the credit crunch 'got me' and I had to let it go. Great to see you doing so well and jumping the planning hurdles. Don't give up.
Hi @christophernewton9579 . Sorry to hear you had to let yours go.😕
Welcome to Italy! La patria della burocrazia infinita 😢
Thank you @larabertaccini7384 . Its not that bad.😊
That is a lovely view.
Le Marche is beautiful
I like your work. And attitude, as flexibility is key in happy life. ❤
Thank you @franciscanoe1522 . It has taken me nearly 50 years to learn that attitide! I still have a long way to go...😂
Very interesting vlog!
Once cleared and I know what is in there I can get a mower through it all.👍
Sorry plans rejected again chin up sure you will get there x
Hi @eiraparry3123 . The plans come good...I am going to release a video covering how the planning part played out.👍
I’ve heard this before with Planning in Italy.
Thank you @elaineayres1989 . No spoilers but as I figure things out the the process gets easier. Thanks for watching.
Great stuff Richard, the sort of thing I would love to do but now into my 64th year so not sure I can manage it anymore so will have to just languish here in Thailand for the time being. All the best mate
HI @witchmellor . You could be in worst places - that country looks like one big adventure!😄
We renovated our home in 2003 lots of red tape. But we adore it. We are near Ostra Vetere where are you ?
Hi @jennyreed2597 I can see Ostra Vetere from the top of the field. I am walking distance to Corinaldo. Virtually neighbours!
I think you should invest in a wood chipper to take care of the brush
Hi @frankcarpenter6175 . Yes, a wood chipper is on the shopping list.🙌
I found that after spending around a month there in one go I started to feel like I may need a layer when going out in the evenings!😂😎
I have started to note the time of year on screen as many ask. I need to make the screen titles clearer. I am planning my next few trips soon so may be there end of March.👍
Thanks for sharing your journey!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to say hello @gennyjustdownthelane8967
Hi Richard. Great job all around---the work & videos.
Just a note: the font you use is hard to read. Consider a more readable font. Cheers
HI @joes2085 . Thank you for the feedback. A few mentioned this so I changed the font over the next few videos. As you watch through you will see the improvements made from the feedback I received. I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know what is working from a views side.👍
Keep up the great dream! Thanks for sharing your experiences ❤
Thank you for watching and saying hello @rachgarcia7
Your right, plot but of a tip where flood road repairs and old derelict bairns but hey beautiful spot, just make house comfy as you like, clear rubbish away, plant some flowering bushes, fruit trees and put your feet up😅
That sounds like a perfect plan @andrewharris1837🙌
Patience and persistence. Don't give up on your dream.
Thank you @simonroe4037 . There is a wonderful house in there to be brought back to life. Small steps..😊
The local imagration office in Italy lost my permanent residence paperwork, luckily I had a copy.
Sensible to have copies as delays in paperwork happen often !😂
Hello Richard just seen your video, you just have to get used how things work out in Sunny Italy I've been in Italy since 1964 I was a wee boy and I love it.I live in the north west Pinerolo, near Turin I wish you the best of luck
Thank you @bernarddaly6941 . I think as I adjust I realise that my expectation were wrong - not the process. I love it here and feel the stress drip off as soon as I cross the border.😊
