There are two things I love to hear, more than anything else on this earth. The music of Sir Arthur Sullivan and the harmonic excellence of VOCES8. I am very happy right now. THANK YOU!💖
Yes, while his operettas with Gilbert are delightful, I. Was happy to hear you agree with me about the other music Sullivan wrote has merit not often recognized. Thanks for your comment. 1:45
Amazing! In all it’s simplicity this piece is technically so difficult to sing. I’ve performed it many times with several choirs, but never reached a satisfactory performance. This is the very first time I heard it sung in the most perfect way possible. Thank you Voces 8.
I’m Im reading comments from all over the world all saying the same thing. The pure excellence of your performance touches all of us causing awe and joy. Blessings on you all!
Greetings from Finland ❤ From the gentle way of singing, the songs you sing, flows the comforting warmth into my long painful nights. Thank you so much.❤. God bless you all.
We in Consensio, have sung this piece for a number of years and it's always a joy to sing and a big favourite, with our audiences! We learn so much from watching and listening to Voces8 . I thought their proms concert was so subliminally brilliant!👏👏👏
Stunning performance again! This sounds like an „easy“ piece, I but it‘s SOO DIFFICULT to sing WELL (tried it in several ensembles and never really managed 😏). No problem for you guys, of course 😅 Just serene 😍
A lot of musicians have described Sullivan’s harmonic progressions as deceptively difficult. They sound so effortless on the other side yet you deliver their intricacies! 😊 beautiful
You did such an extraordinary job on this song that it makes me wish you would do more of the amazing part songs of Arthur Sullivan and his contemporaries. The operettas with Gilbert are delightful, but this other side of Sullivan is just breathtaking in its peacefulness and grace. This music and voces8 are made for one another!
I've been waiting for this one. Bravo. It's just perfect. I haven't heard this in ages and not since the King's Singers have I heard it done this well. Sublime work. Captivating.
No star is o'er the lake, Its pale watch keeping, The moon is half awake, Through gray mists creeping, The last red leaves fall round The porch of roses, The clock hath ceased to sound, The long day closes. Sit by the silent hearth In calm endeavour, To count the sounds of mirth, Now dumb for ever. Heed not how hope believes And fate disposes: Shadow is round the eaves, The long day closes. The lighted windows dim Are fading slowly. The fire that was so trim Now quivers lowly, Quivers lowly. Go to the dreamless bed Where grief reposes; Thy book of toil is read, The long day closes; Go to the dreamless bed Where grief reposes; Thy book of toil is read, Thy book of toil is read, Go to the dreamless bed, The long day closes.
What a wondrous thing it is to listen to VOCES8! They have my heart.
Großartig!!! Diese Harmonie an Stimmen... ist überwältigend! Schön, dass es in unseren grausamen Zeiten noch sowas gibt!

It is often used as such, especially among the Gilbert & Sullivan community.
That’s what I was thinking.

Thank you, für das wunderschöne Konzert in Plön im schönen Norden Schleswig-Holstein in Germany 🙂
Beautiful. I have always loved this since singing it many years ago at a concert. Would be beautiful at a funeral.
Thank you Voces8! Other than his operettas and 'The Lost Chord' I had never heard any of his other works. Beautifully sung!
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for your artistry! I look forward to hearing you in concert in Charlotte, NC, Sunday afternoon.

The breath support is incredible. What an aligned sound.
Very enjoyable singing. Perfect harmony, just as in best British ensembles and choirs.

Oh my god!
How they shape the phrases.
Does anyone know if I can find this track on a CD by VOCES8?
gut
Is it possible to see VOCES8 live?
Where can I buy the sheet music for this?
Like Gilbert and Sullivan?
?
Composed by Arthur Sullivan of Gilbert and Sullivan fame.
Excellent performance of a rather conventional piece.
Exactly 4 minutes and 33 seconds of beautiful music. With the nearly noiseless lyrical setting, could it be a subtle rebuke to John Cage?
Do you have a new bass singer yet?
