- We hope you'll enjoy listening to some of our tenors and basses rehearsing this charming piece by Arthur Sullivan. Best known for the many operas he wrote with William Gilbert, Sullivan published this introspective choral work in 1868. It's a firm favourite of ours, and features on our 'Songs of Farewell' album: www.tenebrae-choir.com/record...
This video was filmed at the beautiful church of St John the Evangelist, Upper Norwood in south London.

Nicholas Madden - tenor
Tom Robson - tenor
Joseph Edwards - baritone
Simon Whiteley - bass

No star is o'er the lake,
Its pale watch keeping,
The moon is half awake,
Through grey mist creeping,
The last red leaves fall round
The porch of roses,
The clock hath ceased to sound,
The long day closes.
Sit by the silent hearth
In calm endeavour,
To count the sounds of mirth,
Now dumb for ever.
Heed not how hope believes
And fate disposes:
Shadow is round the eaves,
The long day closes.
The lighted windows dim
Are fading slowly.
The fire that was so trim
Now quivers lowly.
Go to the dreamless bed
Where grief reposes;
Thy book of toil is read,
The long day closes
Perfect. Saying hello from Nigeria
So love this, i dream of singing like this
Sounds like so many more than just four. Great voices, great acoustics.
Really beautifully sung. No unnecessary dramatics, other groups could learn from this.
Fabulous performance of a beautiful piece. Just what I needed after a long and troublesome day. Many thanks.
Silky smooth voices well bkended yet can hear individual strengths. Beautiful
Just stunning! A gorgeous blend, balance, and tone. A masterclass of sensitive ensemble singing. Bravo!
Perfection. Glorious disciplined ensemble; the quintessence of professional choral performance.

Classic mawkish Victorian allegory of death
