I have just found your car Channel, and watched you changing this Tiguan timing belt. you do a great in depth video giving all the torque settings as well. I watch a lot of car repair videos on youtube, but yours is the best I have seen. great close up filming. will be watching all from now on, keep up the good work.
My cffb engine has 425k klms on it. Apart from expected ware and tare items this engine has performed flawlessly. I did a stage 1 tune from BSR and it made a massive difference to the power delivery and consumption. Thank you for this video.
You just saved my day, my timing went out by a tooth or 2 and I had no idea how to get it right - thanks a mil for an excellent video showing all the marks and the procedure
Thankyou so much for this video mate. Followed it step by step and done it all now. I’m a lorry mechanic but never done a timing belt / water pump kit, so thought I’d give it a go rather than paying a garage. Thanks again!
Couple of small updates on this, center tory on the housing is easier to get off once the engine is jacked, remove the top cover first, minor details for someone without a ramp, other than that you saved me £500.00 ish quid! Love it 😂
The best and great detail by far for this. I’m doing mine in a few days and honestly not been looking forward to doing it. Last Cambelt I did was 24 years ago on an old fiat uno 1300. Thank you for this guys.
Just did mine following the video, best one out there. My HPFP didn’t line up perfectly was about 1/3 of the way blocked from the left. Also tightened the HPFP to 20nm as quite allot of people have mentioned this to be the correct spec (including continental) but I’ve also seen a ridiculously high additional 90* which I don’t understand as these are defiantly not stretch bolts, otherwise surely the kits would include them new just like the camshaft bolts..
@@diydaly thank you it went really smoothly, kept referring back to your video. Two things, I stupidly tightened the cam pulley bolts the first stage and second stage to angle before turning the engine around by hand like you do on your vid. Do you think this would be an issue? Also I didn't replace those 3x bolts and realised after they came in the kit. Do you usually replace them, I don't think you did in the vid? Thanks
I saw this video an thought it would be perfect when changing my timing belt on my cffb-engine. But when I came down to locking the crank, it was 2-3 tooths wrong. It was 2-3 tooths to the right. Wonder why this is. My engine runs fine with current timing belt. Should I just try to lock it where it is now. Or should I adjust the crank to the proper position shown in your video?
Well done! Congratulations! I have a question - I have a Passat B7 2.0 TDI 125kw, similar engine as in the video. The same is common rail, the car is from 2012. Does it affect fuel consumption, if the pump is not in line with the cam and crankshaft? Because after replacing the belt, my car consumes at least 3 liters more fuel. I am afraid that the mechanic did not set the fuel pump to be synchronized with the cam and crankshaft. Thanks for your reply. P.S. I forgot to mention that he didn't use the lock tool like you did at all. He marked the crankshaft with a marker, and put a pin in the cam, but I don't think it was 6mm, but thinner, to make it easier to install. I can't remember how he adjusted the pump or if he adjusted it at all. Everything has been replaced, all rollers, new belt, tensioners, water pump, in-line belt with all tensioners and rollers. Everything new.
Hey mate, Thank you for the video! Quick question.. do you reuse all the bolts? I know they're supposed to be stretch bolts.. but I cba waiting for them to arrive from abroad
Turn over the new belt twice. Put the pins in the cam and fuel pulleys, then slacken the bolts because the crankshaft pin won’t go in. Turn the crankshaft to locate the pin then lock the pump and cam bolts. Turn a few more times and then all pins will go in even after turning it over by hand.
I have the CFGC (2013) 2 litre 130 kW engine, I suppose the locking tool is the same, but the specific engine (or even the series EA189) is never mentioned. Should any of the tools on ebay that look like this and say "TDI 1.4/1.6/1.8/2.0" work ok?
Brilliant work...🎉🎉🎉 i used to have 2.0 Tdi CR CFGB which had an aux fuel pump next to engine mount ...that this Tiguan does not have...😢😢😢 anyways ...it's a treat watching you work and explain...keep it up🤙🤙🤙
This is an interference engine. Meaning the valves and pistons occupy the same space, just not at the same time. If the timing belt breaks the pistons hit the valves. If you are extremely lucky you need to rebuild the head. In most cases you need a new engine.
xcellent explanation well done Great video and a job well done and well explained (please can you do a tutorial on the same engine like Dismantling & Cleaning particle filter)?

I once saw on a VAG website that they guarantee timing belts up to 320,000km. My 2012 Jetta TDi is currently at 190,000km.. I'll do the belt later. It's a lot easier to do on a Peugeot DW10bted4.. I had my timing belt done on my MK7 golf TDI and the car came back noisy !!! like overhead noise!! even my son who knows nothing about cars said whats up with the motor it sounds like its going to blow up. I asked the mechanic and he pulled the covers all off again and re checked it. Said you cant get it wrong...anyway 2 weeks later car stopped and came up with number 4 glowplug...i pulled it out and the tip was broken off and then i pulled the injector out and the tip of that was melted off !!! i turn the motor over by hand and it was locked up almost on a full turn but then jammed. Like it was hitting a bent valve or something. Never had an issue with the car ever until the cambelt was done. I think the mechanic fucked up. cant prove it. Maybe the timing was advanced and burnt the cylinder. ?? im pissed off.
Hard to say exactly but something was clearly wrong there.. always tricky when something like this has happened if the mechanic is not offering any support
By far the best 2.0 TDI timing belt video on UA-cam.
Thanks 😁👍👍

Yeah most will do it if it’s got the 2 different types for the crank in the kit
Great detailed video just one question would the torque settings be the same values for a 1.6 tdi?
As you were working on a 2.0 tdi
They may be slightly different hard to say with out checking the autodata
Thank you l will see what info l can find ref the possible different torque settings@@diydaly
Would this be the same set up on a 2010 Seat Leon 1.6 TDI CAY enigine ?

Thanks for the reply. I just came accross camshaft synchronisation. Why is that done and when does it need to be done ?

In your experience, does a timing belt tensioner loosen over time? Is it prudent to set the pointer on the right side of the channel?
Judging on this video, the answer seems to be yes to both questions as the tensioner is far towards the slack side on this engine.
I’d always recommend only setting to the centre , you don’t want to over tension..
You dont take the belt for the oil pomp with this job?
No not usually
Will this fit 2015 mk1 Tiguan
👍
Does the fuel pump need to be timed? Being a common rail u would’ve thought it shouldn’t matter if it’s locked or not
It’s more for balancing purposes , should be set it the correct position reallly
Is the 2.0 Tdi CR CFGB in the 2012 B7 the same and would the torque setting be the same
should be , ive got a full video on the B7

If it hasn’t damaged anything you need to strip it all down , re pin it and put the belt back on
