Tolkien purists, PLEASE stop complaining about an alpha. I'm an avid Lord of the Rings fan, having read the books (including the Hobbit and Silmarillion), and seen the extended editions of each movie, and I hardly understand the cynicism. Not only does this game appear to be highly respectful of the lore, but the gameplay looks phenomenal. Yes, it is clearly inspired by a variety of games such as Assassins Creed and Arkham, but that shouldn't demean the potential quality of the game itself.
Absolute rubbish, There is *nothing* in this game that is respectful of the "lore" of Middle-earth. It may be a good game otherwise, but to claim you are a 'avid' LotR fan, yet not see how it is majorly changing Middle-earth into a very different setting, is silly. -Two quick examples: The Rangers weren't hanging out at the Black Gate when Sauron returned to Mordor in the Third Age. They had left hundreds of years before that. Also (and this is the big one, imo) : The whole premise of the character you play in this game has no basis in Middle-earth. You can't be a part-wraith or half-wraith or resurrected by a wraith "spirit" and then go around being some sort of vengeance-taking, free-willed, super-tough anti-hero. Utter nonsense. It doesn't work that way in Middle-earth, period.

The films may have given the strong impression that Saruman was the first one to create Uruks, but that's not the case at all. Sauron bred bigger, tougher, orcs that were able to withstand sunlight better and lead troops better, etc. long before Saruman started doing anything evil, and those uber-orcs were called Uruks by some.

Pre-alpha, the game UI and gameplay was bound to change by the time of release by some degree. Also mind you these kind of reveals and looks into gameplay is often scripted, though they're advertising how dynamic the nemesis system is, it's simply the fact they purposely made the game look good to show here.
They are some new games you see for the first time and you ponder if you will be getting it or not, and there is some games you see them you just deduct the money it cost from your bank account in your head immediately like it's already spent.
If you have to imitate a game, it might as well be a good game. Assassin's Creed has good gameplay. LotR is a good universe. Why not combine them? I might actually buy this.
I agree. I never liked the Assassins Creed universe. I loathed the animus concept and sequences. Ubisoft have quite a lazy aesthetic design sense, always settling for the generic and cliche. The protagonist always looked out of place in his silly costume. The weak historical context and jingoistic nonsense was cringe worthy at times, particularly in AC3. But the open world aspect to AC was good, and the combat was fluid. I feel the same way about Arkham City too, very solid combat. The lore of LotR adapted to those gameplay mechanics will make for a compelling game.
So AC2 climbing,batman arkham fighting,tomb raider bow mechanics and he kinda looks like the witcher with his two swords but seriously it looks awesome!!

The game play for it is something to write home about. They did a lot of shit right, which in the world of video games does not happen often. Look at the way he climbs at the beginning and hang at the ledge. And also the cable as well as the way he walks on it. And the special power he has is actually a modified version of the eagle vision in AC.
This looks rather promising even as a Pre-Alpha build. The camera angles are the only problem that I could make out but that's always been a problem with third-person hack-and-slash games. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

When you look at the hierarchy in this video Ratbag answers to one war chief who then has 4 "generals" above him. That's the one aspect of the game I thought was really lacking was not having the hierarchy go past the war chief. It would've been a pretty simple add and would've increased the difficulty, enjoyment, and length of the game. C+ so far.
We shouldn't think of this as a clone of AC. It is. But how many clones came from early FPSes? Or platformers? Or RPGs? Now those are just genres and it's expected that they're so similar to each other. What we should focus on is the promises of this. They're promising a big jump in AI from last gen. This is closer to actual artificial intelligence than just programmed bots who act in fairly predictable ways. Will we ever get to a point where major devs have to go back to text speech because there just aren't enough recorded lines? Or will the AI progress with a voice synthesizer and creative mind that can fathom worthwhile speech to make? That is fucking exciting, even if a long way off. This is still a great step and I'm excited for this.

Right this looks absolutely awesome, a mix of witcher and tomb raider in terms of gameplay. Since its pre-alpha I won't say it in a judgemental sense. More like a suggestions. Its pre-alpha the gameplay isn't smooth, its jaggy and lags but it'll smooth out I'm sure. graphics are "next gen" standards, the combat seem decent and the story seem awesome. The gameplay mechanic seems interesting and it definitely will be a fantastic game if executed correctly. ( Remember me had a good mechanic, shame there wasn't much in the game) Also PC Please!

I'm a little bit skeptical of how well the nemesis system will work, but overall it seems really cool. Kind of like building a memorable character out of just a few really key traits in a pen and paper RPG.
Why is everyone saying it looks more like Assassin's Creed? I watched the developers in another video state that they were following in the footsteps of Arkham Asylum. I mean, look at this! Combat: influenced by Free-Flow combat Stealth: influenced by Predator stealth Wraith World: influenced by Batman's detective vision Seems to me that this is more influenced by Arkham series than Assassin's Creed you guys -_-
Method of traversal was smoother and faster in Arkham Asylum. Mostly due to the gadgets, but along with the gadgets, the mechanics were removed. The climbing seems just as irritatingly slow and invariable as assasin's creed. Combat: The character spends a lot longer time in the attack animations and especially kill animations, which is closer to assassin's creed, and that *does* break the flow of combat. Stealth:There is no stealth so far unless you're telling me standing on a ledge qualifies in which case I'm like a ninja leaning on the railings of my staircase. Wraith vision - honestly AA and AC's visions are so similar I'm not sure I should even bother, but just aesthetically it's closer to AC. It's basically AC - which I know is strange considering the developer, but they've yet to show anything to the contrary, but if they do, feel free to tell me you told me so.
Ok wow, lol. Eagle vision, quintessential AC wall climbing mechanics, Aerial take downs, AC2 counter combat... Also seeing resemblances to The Witcher, and Dishonored. And to be honest, I like it all. I'm not sure if this is a bad thing, but either way I really want to play Assassins of Middle-Earth: The Witcher of Mordor.

Well...this..just looks...FKIN EPIC! Yes in theory it's an AC clone but for me personally this is a step-up, one of my most anticipated games now along with Destiny and The Division.
The Lord of the Rings saga has been drained for all its worth, transitioning the story to a wide variety of interpretations in video games, additional reading, films, board games, etc., but this game seems to have taken a breath of fresh air. I don't usually buy games at full price but, even if the preorder bonus is lacking, I might just get this one.
So I'm just waiting for Morgoth to come back from the Void and bring the battle of all battles to Middle-Earth. That would make a nice game & movie, or even book.

Tolkein always wanted people to continue creating stories set in the universe he had created, these are new characters created by production company and really the anticipation for this game just shows the reverence people have of Tolkein and Middle-Earth, they are celebrating in a different way

I have never bought or played a Lord of the rings game but this one definitely has my attention.
Looks very cool, love the idea of the Nemesis system.
For all the cynical Tolkien purists out there, lighten up, it looks like fun.
I'm a little bit skeptical of how well the nemesis system will work, but overall it seems really cool. Kind of like building a memorable character out of just a few really key traits in a pen and paper RPG.
So....assassin creed...but lord of rings style... You have one chance to make this work... ONE CHANCE

As soon as I saw the reviews, I stayed far away from War in the North. And the game I was referring to was BFME II, of course.
I honestly don't care that this looks like Assassin's Creed. I love Lord of the Rings, and I am going to buy this game the day it comes out
Why is everyone saying it looks more like Assassin's Creed? I watched the developers in another video state that they were following in the footsteps of Arkham Asylum. I mean, look at this!
Combat: influenced by Free-Flow combat
Stealth: influenced by Predator stealth
Wraith World: influenced by Batman's detective vision
Seems to me that this is more influenced by Arkham series than Assassin's Creed you guys -_-
Method of traversal was smoother and faster in Arkham Asylum. Mostly due to the gadgets, but along with the gadgets, the mechanics were removed. The climbing seems just as irritatingly slow and invariable as assasin's creed.
Combat: The character spends a lot longer time in the attack animations and especially kill animations, which is closer to assassin's creed, and that *does* break the flow of combat.
Stealth:There is no stealth so far unless you're telling me standing on a ledge qualifies in which case I'm like a ninja leaning on the railings of my staircase.
Wraith vision - honestly AA and AC's visions are so similar I'm not sure I should even bother, but just aesthetically it's closer to AC.
It's basically AC - which I know is strange considering the developer, but they've yet to show anything to the contrary, but if they do, feel free to tell me you told me so.

Ok wow, lol. Eagle vision, quintessential AC wall climbing mechanics, Aerial take downs, AC2 counter combat... Also seeing resemblances to The Witcher, and Dishonored. And to be honest, I like it all. I'm not sure if this is a bad thing, but either way I really want to play Assassins of Middle-Earth: The Witcher of Mordor.

im thinking since its early it might just be filler for some gameplay, might get changed later but who knows, i just care about the nemesis system which sounds real awsome and unique

Yes in theory it's an AC clone but for me personally this is a step-up, one of my most anticipated games now along with Destiny and The Division.

The Lord of the Rings saga has been drained for all its worth, transitioning the story to a wide variety of interpretations in video games, additional reading, films, board games, etc., but this game seems to have taken a breath of fresh air. I don't usually buy games at full price but, even if the preorder bonus is lacking, I might just get this one.
I really hope the constant mini-cutscenes are a concession to building a trailer and not what the game will actually feel like.
Regardless of the comparisons I'm buying it.

Fraust Bite I think it is in the Silmarillion, but its not the entire focus of the book its a collection of Tolkiens late works
Tolkein always wanted people to continue creating stories set in the universe he had created, these are new characters created by production company and really the anticipation for this game just shows the reverence people have of Tolkein and Middle-Earth, they are celebrating in a different way

this has more than a whiff of assassins creed, but just completely put ac to shame, maybe ubisoft should pay attention to this, this is how you do combat.

Hey guys! I heard they made a complete ripoff of Doom that stole its trademark first person view. All they did was change some of the plot and enemies! I think it's called "Every FPS Made Since Doom". Or something. God, it's like game companies can't do anything original anymore, right?

Except FPS is an entire genre. Copying gameplay mechanics so blatantly is not the same as building a similar game within a genre.
BruceFnLee FPS wasn't a genre when the second FPS was created, at the time it was simply 'copying'. Or what is also known in this world as 'progressing'.
