I had to rewatch a couple of times around the UHS bus bit - you lost me for a sec there, but found my way back, and was a really helpful video. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge I now understand the difference between, SD, SDHC and SDXC I was using the wrong speed for my camera and camcorder I was wondering why it was a bit slow in saving the photos or filming, I need to upgrade to a SDXC, u3, class 10 at 128bits memorys with 170 read speed, thank you :)
Kanish N. I’d have to know what kind of camera 📸 you’re using before I can answer that. Cameras record 1080p @ different bit rates which results in different max recording times.
Kanish N. If you record 1080p @ 60fps then your max time the card can hold is about 2 hrs 20 min. But if you shoot 1080p @ 24 or 30fps then you can shoot double that (about 4 hrs & 45 min). 👍🏽
Extremely useful information and well delivered!. The eyes were distracting though, they look like little power buttons. Kept wanting to press it to see what would power up.
Every so often there are bad SD cards in batches that get sold, but I haven't heard from anyone who has bought them that they had issues. Keep in mind that the number on the front is the maximum burst speed meaning that it will not perform at that speed for a sustained amount of time. If you are using it for video, it is unlikely that you'll need more than 30 MB/s anyways which the card is guaranteed to provide based on the U3 rating.
I just found out on my camera settings 2 hours and 40 minutes in 60i FX that is enough time for me. Ounce I put a video on UA-cam I delete in from the card. Thanks for this video.
Thank you. This is the most well explained video I have seen about memory cards. This helps me. New subscriber. How do you properly dispose of batteries and USBs?
Ms. Georgina, I’m glad it was useful! 😀 Unfortunately I’m not much help in the disposal process. I have a tendency to keep EVERYTHING (I have a lot of junk)...😳
Camber Motion aww not you too😏 I just don't want anything to spontaneously combust. Have ever bought the memory card and been able to return it? I have been on the hunt for a Sony NP-FG1 battery and it's hard to find? Any suggestions?
I've never had any issues with any of my memory cards so I've never made any returns. I keep a sleeve full of old smaller ones in my bag just in case I need them. I found some of those NP-FG1 batteries on Amazon @ amzn.to/2IP0Q1U for ya. I saw some cheaper knock-offs, but I would stick with the brand name one because I've gotten some knock-offs and after a about 6 months they wouldn't hold a charge at all. What kind of camera are you using?
Nice to watch ... but what about explaining the same on CF-Cards ?? Using SD-Cards is a big bottle-neck on a EOS 5D-Mk3 or similar cameras. So ... I'm looking forward watching this video for CF-Cards soon.
Thank you helpful. Is there a video that goes in depth more on sustained speeds and how to figure out the write speed when only the read speed is on the card.
The write speed is on the card. The U1 or U3 is the minimum sustained write speed. U1 gives you 10MB/s and U3 gives you 30MB/s. You can also get V60 and V90 which are 60MB/s and 90MB/s respectively.
@@CamberFilmSchool Thank you, I should clarify. I meant to ask videos on many types of cards not just SD, SDHC, and SDXC. For example the UDMA 6 and 7 for CF cards and the line up for SXS cards from Sony and the derivatives of it like SXS-1 and SXS Pro+ etc.
Camber Motion thank you!! Maybe Ill end up making one? Im getting all this information gathered for a work project but it would be nice for other folks too.
Compact cards (now obsolete) used to be faster but now SD cards have caught up. A negative of SD cards is that they're fragile. Cfast card are very fast but incredibly expensive. You may be better off just getting an external recorder and using SSD cards which are faster still and cheaper.

Whether your a beginner or not doesn't really matter; you just want to make sure your card is fast enough to match or exceed the camera's video recording speed. That said, this 32GB card ( amzn.to/2Lxjmuf ) should be plenty for your needs.
Is it rue that you should never delete clips from a card you're still recording to because the card would be 'fragmented' and the cam would have to jump around looking for the next available space to write to?
Hi, hard to process this at my age !! please do a video specifically on Go Pro sd cards??? i.e. what are best for maximum recordings etc. If you do you will go on my christmas card list !!
1. mjx bugs 20 drone, for 4k- ? , for 1080p - ? 2. akaso brave 6plus action camera, for 4k - ? , for 1080p - ? could you please answer/suggest me my question?
I'd need to know the recording bitrate for each of those modes you have listed. But I'd guess that a 64GB U3 Card ( amzn.to/2Ksajvd ) should do just fine.
Best advice I can give is to do your research (look at the mfr's web page for the card you're considering) and focus on the actual write speed. Most card mfrs only advertise (on the package) the read speed, which is always faster and looks better. But the most important thing to consider is the WRITE speed. And also keep in mind that the device's SD card slot interface will also dictate how fast cards can write. So using a UHS-III card rated for up to 600 MB/s won't write any faster than a UHS-I card rated at 100 or 150 MBs, when put int oa device that only supports the UHS-I spec (as that spec tops out at around 100-150 MB/s). Just because you use a faster car doesn't mean the device will write faster. It only will if it supports the faster card spec. In some rare cases, putting a faster card into a slower slot can impact write speed. I think on the Nikon D750 this was the case and people were advised not to use faster cards (anything faster than UHS-I because it could slow down the camera for some reason). Unless you're shooting video or a lot of large uncompressed high-res RAW files, UHS-I or UHS-II cards are generally what you'll want. UHS-I is probably barely too slow for good 4k and UHS-II (with write speeds at least 150MB/s) is probably recommended.
Totally agree with not needing higher rated cards when the camera isn’t compatible because it’ll just default to the lower speeds. However, UHS-I cards rated at U3 are plenty for most cameras they shoot 4K. When you said they probably aren’t good enough for “good 4K,” that’s not really the case. Some cameras shoot 4K at 10 MB/s and some shoot 4K at 600 MB/s. So you really need to be sure of the camera’s highest recording bitrate and choose an SD card accordingly.
@@CamberFilmSchool can you give me an example of a camera that shoots at 600MB/s? Because from what you've said in this video it seems like it would be impossible.
@@CamberFilmSchool you accidentally made the same mistake twice? Or is 10MB correct? You were clearly making a comparison, which can't really switch to a different measurement standard in the middle of the comparison.

Hey Singarosa. They types of videos you want to great don't really make any difference on what kind of card you're going to need. All that matters is the camera's max recording bitrate. For the 550D I recommend the 64GB SD card ( amzn.to/2CxYZsH ) to give you plenty of time for your videos.

Hey, Captain Figgy. I actually have another video on SD card suggestions for specific Canon DSLRs that you can check out here: ua-cam.com/video/L-7gddGDVp4/v-deo.html I would go with the card listed for the t6i.

iLoveLeatherNYC, ok. How long does your battery normally last, and what video setting are you shouting with??
@@CamberFilmSchool Battery lasts about half an hour and I am shooting on automatic mode.
Using a the Sandisk 64GB SDXC card (amzn.to/2uI8EZO) should perfectly for shooting on the 80D at the highest quality setting (1920x1080 FHD with .MOV).
Very educational video, good job.
Thanks!
Just what i needed Thanks
No problem! Glad to help! 👍🏽
Great job! Very helpful infos.
Thanks so much, Lui! 👍🏼
This helped a bunch! Thank you!
Awesome, itsRadioBiz. Glad to hear! 👍🏽
Great video, thank you. What do you recommend for a cannon eos 550d for shooting video tutorials?
Hey Singarosa. They types of videos you want to great don't really make any difference on what kind of card you're going to need. All that matters is the camera's max recording bitrate. For the 550D I recommend the 64GB SD card ( amzn.to/2CxYZsH ) to give you plenty of time for your videos.
@@CamberFilmSchool thank you so much. I really appreciate your time.
No problem, Singarosa 👍🏽 Glad to help!
I perfer big cards as well but I use a gh5 with two slots so I can have a built in backup.
That's one a of the few things I don't like about my a7Sii. I'm thinking about getting the a7iii because all the reviews look pretty great on it and it has that extra slot. It'll definitely give me peace of mind during weddings!
Whats the size do you use?
I use 128GB, but I'm about to switch to 256GB cards for the a7Siii.
Thank you! I am just starting out and watching all of your videos! What would you suggest to be the best SD card for a Canon Rebel T5i ? I am doing videos for my business on youtube :) THANKX!!! and you're Awesome!
Hey, Captain Figgy. I actually have another video on SD card suggestions for specific Canon DSLRs that you can check out here: ua-cam.com/video/L-7gddGDVp4/v-deo.html I would go with the card listed for the t6i.
Had to stop the video at 01:20. Many cameras have a maximum SD card capacity usability - e.g. the Canon T7i (800D) can only use up to 128GB on the SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card even though the card capacity can be up to 256GB.
Ok.
I already get out there and film something :D
Nice! 😎
what is the best card for my panasonic SDR-S7 camcorder?
Hey, meme man 🙋🏽♂️ I’d go with a SanDisk 32GB SDHC ( amzn.to/2YWyMNi ) for that camera.
Very useful, thank you so much!
You're welcome, Clair! 👍🏼

Fantastic advice, especially differentiating between Mb/s and MB/S and multiple card redundancy. Thank you for all the effort you put in to this.

Awesome, Callum Stevenson 👍🏽 Glad to help!
Dude, this was so through and straight to the point. Thank you so much for making this video!
You’re welcome!
Very informative, I’ve wondered what all those numbers/letters were! Just looked like an algebra equation to me! 😂
Haha! Yeah, a lot of it is redundant stuff, but good to know!
Well done! I knew the codes long ago, but the new video factors are what I needed. And you provided just what I needed! Thanks a lot. Easy to understand, well presented and above all...CLEAR and CONCISE. That's a real treat!!!
Thanks, David Howell ! I’m glad to hear it was helpful and enjoyable! 👍🏽
