Just picked up my first camera and didn’t know what memory card was needed. I appreciate the amount of time and effort you put into making this video. Thank you, Dieter.
Happy to hear that! Thank you for taking the time to leave this nice comment!
And me thinking that any SD card will do! Learnt something new and will never look at an SD card in the same way again 😆.
I have a way to make people's lives more complicated, sorry 😄
Any Reviews on the SANDISC 32GB/512MB SD CARD???
@@kristofernewton422don't take the ultra row. Go for the extreme. In the most cases the v30 are enough.
You dont race a standard Lada from the 70s do you? 😂
I thought so too but realized something was wrong when my GoPro kept saying SD issues and was glitching in 4k😅
"Hold my beer, let me take some notes" - Finally informative and very simple explanations. Big thanks
Very easy and explanationnn ❤
Thanks DIETER . WELL DONE, A LOT OF USEFUL INFORMATION👍
Thank you for a great video. and explanation. I am wanting to learn now how to make short clips and video. So I subscribed hopefully to learn all I can. I have the Fuji XT-4 and love it
My advice is to pick up Davinci Resolve for video editing:). I like Capture One for RAW processing but it's more expensive than Lightroom or free versions
one of the best explanations ive seen on this subject . thanks Dieter !
Thank you!
Thank you. I think I will get me a 128gb. You gave me all the info I need
Thank you so mutch for this! Just got a 4K camera and this will help me alot!
love the video. very clear and clean
I love hiking too if you're ever in Western North Carolina let me know buddy!
Zeer hulpvolle video. Prachtig en in detail uitgelegd. Ik ben fan van dit kanaal.
You explained it very well, thank you .
Great video, thank you very much for your explanations, very helpful!
Very clear and helpful. Thank you.
Dieter...I noticed at the end the recommended cards, except one, are 'V90'. I would have thought you'd have more 'V60' SD cards listed? Anyway, good video. I have a Sony a6700 on backorder and am looking for SD card recommendations. I'll be using this camera for 'stills' and 4K video (Cine), but like you, I don't need the 'super-high' capacity, nor do I need the ultra-high speed write feature. I realize I won't be utilizing the camera to its full potential, but it will great for home videos and images. Thx!
Clear explanation thank you very much!
Thank your for the explanation
Thanks great info!
Thank you so much for the info 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you very much brother :)
Happy to help
Thankyou☺
you should have split the video into segments, especially for like what SD card are the best
I have a problem…. When I started to use 128 gb only pictures can be send to my phone but I can’t send videos anymore can please someone explain why?
is Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB 200MB/S SDXC UHS-1 Card (SDSDXXD-128G-GN4IN) good for canon 80d and r50?
Watched about 4 videos, including yours and it’s unbelievable how all this information can be overlooked by any consumer jumping into this for the first time. Because wrong cards can be purchased or money can be wasted.
My brother and I would always look at memory cards at stores and think why does this higher storage capacity card cost less than this lower capacity card. And with logical conclusions we assumed it had to do with how the card operates - but without clear understand. (At least at that time)
And when we got right down to it and figured this out it makes complete sense. From U Class capability’s to V class performance as well as the UHS bus class (I or II) which, honestly this is the BIGGEST contributor to the expense differences between the two.
Once you jump to a second UHS bus class card the price increases dramatically and like you said - could really cost you big in the end especially if you never even think to buy a Camera/host product that supports those insane speeds.
Now that I’ve got this all down it truly clears up all the confusion and explains the cost versus the performance that stretches far beyond the practical numbers of storage size.
Back in the day the biggest thing I had to worry about was the speed class (or C class is what some of us called it). Now things have definitely changed - and once you understand that some of these labels can be redundant it makes things more understandable.
good info
Just replaced my Sony A7C with the Mark II version and to my dismay found that for many video options (S & Q for example) a Card greater than the V60 is required! No issue with slow motion on my original A7c and a Sony tough HC II but that card will not work for S&Q at all regardless of video settings. I get a message that a card with "V greater than 60" is necessary. Does this mean a V60 card will not work? Thanks
Sounds like it. Otherwise it might say "equal to or greater than"
Great video! Do you have any experience with the Kingston sd cards? They are a bit cheaper, are they as reliable as the Sandisk sd’s?
Hey what sd card do you recommend for the new Sony a6700 to record all modes with no issues
Hi Dieter. I've bought a wifi cctv camera that records in 2k so what SD card would be best?
wich 2 cards work best for my new canon R
If you shoot Sony you will need a V90 for 4:2:2 10bit and Some S&Q videos. 80% you can get away with a V60.
Got my first Sony A7SIII camera and am not a technical person. Looked at dozens of videos, and yours was the best one for beginners (great pace, nice use of visuals, laymen's terminology, direct/to the point). Would love to see other videos such as: how to set up your camera for shooting videos, how to transfer video to laptop, using card readers (necessary or not), connecting external mic to computer (i.e. Yeti) would be great! Thank you!
I got a 128GB Sandisk Extreme Pro U3 (10) V30 card when the GH4 came out. We were told you'd need a super fast super expensive card to read and write 4K at 400MBS. What a load of rubbish. I still have that same card now shooting 6K 200MBS on the Panasonic S5ii and it still has never let me down. This exact same card is on Amazon right now for £19.95
I got the same one how you get it to 6k and how do you get your videos to always export 4k 👀 lol
You can only feel the limitations when you decide to shoot slowmotion ...higher frame rate
Wow, very well explained video. Before I would look at a SD card, even though it was written in English, it still looked like a foreign language to me, before I saw this video. Liked and subscribed. Cheers from Whitehorse Yukon.
Best video I've found to explain this, thank you! You cover everything in a simple and calm way - no crazy effects or excessive movement haha
Thank you so much! You did an amazing job at simplifying everything! 🙏
Thanks for your advice. Ive watched many videos on this subject and found you to be the best in keeping it short and simple. Kooking forward to more videos from you. Awesome job!!
I'm very happy to hear that, thank you!
Is V60 good enough for 4k 60p 200mb/s 4:2:0 10Bit All-Intra ?
👍 yeah
Too many things that never understood about choosing the right memory card but you ,Dieter, made it very simple to understand and I am truly grateful for your detailed explanation. Very well done video on the subject.
Thank you for the detailed video. I wanted help on something hoping anyone can answer my questions... I use a ( canon EOS 5d mark III ) and i want to know which card is best to use for making HD Video preferably in 4k? and which card is best for taking fast photos? or for Bothe? as i have the mark III i don't know which card these days have the compatibility to shoot 4k video with this camera as it is an old camera now.
Xpro2 - 2 x 64GB SDXC V30 200 MB/s UHS-I Class 10 U3 OK? no sports, rarely 4K video.
is a Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB 200MB/S SDXC UHS-1 Card (SDSDXXD-128G-GN4IN) good for Canon 80D and R50?
So im new to your channel and I did subscribe. I just bought my 1st quality camera the Canon r6 mark ii and don't want a cheap memory card. What's your opinion on the best 128gb card that will not have trouble shooting 4k time-lapse or 40fps burst shots.... thanks for your help and opinion. I'm asking now because this video isn't new and maybe you have a more recent opinion.
What about SD vs Micro SD, does Micro SD overheat more? I have lots of GoPro and I would like to stay in Micro SD even for my new Lumix S5iiX I just ordered :)
Thanks! This is IMO the best explanation video out there going through ALL card details! I saw some other video walking through ZV-E10 quality comparison. The video suggested to shoot at 4k/60MBPS... Is a V60 OK, or in a case like this, do you need to get the next highest? So V90? Or is it OK to shoot on the limit of the card?
Thanks for the compliment! Theoretically, there is no advantage to using a card that's faster than what your camera is capable of. It only records data that's being fed by the camera, so there is no difference in quality. Unless your card is too slow. Then you can get things like dropped frames.
@@DieterVanHolder thanks! 🙏
For most use case scenario most people will be good with a V30 card. Like you said: buy extra cards, not just a big one: it can be cheaper to buy 2 64Gb cards over one 128Gb and if one card fails you have the other. Or if you lose it...
That said, check your camera manual for the actual bitrates and divide by 8: a camera shooting 30mb/s will need a card that records continuously at least 3.75MB/s so a C10 or V10 is enough. Meanwhile a camera recording at 150mb/s will need a card that can record at 18.75MB/s so in that case a V30 card needed. Some cameras will shoot super high bitrates likes 400mb/s and for that you'll need V60 minimum. Unless you're going for 8k, V90 is never needed and the extra money not worth it.
thank you a lot! Good information. question Micro Sd is any difference ? can i use a micro sd with an adapter or i lose capacity or something?
Is a 256 GB v30 SD card enough to record 4k 120 fps(max) videos on a DJI action camera?
I knew nothing about sd cards before I clicked on your video. I need to know and understand what sd cool down time is and means, you didn't mention it at all in this video, I was hoping you did. Maybe you could respond here?
Hi! I am new to cameras and was wondering what would be a good recommendation for sd card for the canon powershot g7x mark ii ! Thank you!
Hi. I am Belgian living in Nepal for the past 40 years.
Thanks gor the advice
So is v30 good enough for 4k and 1080 120fps? There's a solid price difference in v30 and v60
does anyone know what type of card I can use to shoot videos in a nikon s3200
on the Nikon Z6ii I've been using a 95MB/s Lexar card for a while with no issues. 64GB is a bit on the low end for 4k 30fps, especially for basic talking head videos because you can only can 1-2 hours on a card
I dont know why, but when i use my Canon 80D with a Lexar SDXC V60 II class 10, the camera will suddenly stop when shooting video.
When I use it with a SanDisk SDXC V30 I Class 10, the 80D shoots video with no problem at all... By all accounts, the Lexar is supposed to be better, but for some unknown reason to me, it just doesn't perform properly.
Thank you very much ! Very informative video. I am choosing my first memory card for my new first camera, your video helped me a lot! :)
Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video. I've been using SD cards since the early 2000s and I STILL need to refer to something like this to remember what all the symbols and classes and speeds mean! 😁🙏
Thanks a ton for the great explanation. I just picked up an x-T4, been trying to figure out what write speeds and size I need to perform at the cameras peak.
Could you please further explain on what you’d recommend for peak continuous shutter speed? I like shooting in bursts, but sometimes may want to hold it for a few seconds or more and don’t want it to reach a buffer and risk missing a good shot. I’ll be getting a couple cards for stills in one slot and a separate faster card for video in the second slot.
In that case, just get a card with the fastest specs the XT4 is capable of writing to. Anything over that can't be reached anyway. :)
@@DieterVanHolder @Dieter Van Holder That's about what I did. A 64 gig V90 to get me started., I asked for a V60 but "That's all they had in stock". Your video helped make my decision and definitely gave me better insight. Thanks!
Best card for higher resolution video in zv e10
Thanks very much, God bless 🙏
Super helpfull video, very well put together. Thank you very much for the information.
Happy to help!
Whats the best sd card for shooting full hd video
Thank you so much. I have been recording 4k video wrong for so long. Thank you
Great video, much appreciated. The day these cameras start supporting at least mSATA is the day I will consider buying a real camera. For now, it looks like I am stuck using my phone and that is good enough for non-professions and non-hobbyists.
If you don't want to edit and just enjoy snapping shots, that is largely true
Great video thank for the info.
SDHC and SDXC doesn't determine the data storage formatting. SDHC just means secure digital high capacity up to 64GB. SDXC means secure digital extended capacity 64gb and more. You can format them however you'd like as long as it's compatible with the device you intend to use.
NO! Absolutely not! The Parameters of the Camera when Formatting are totally different to prepare the Memory Card for Writing and Reading then the Parameters of the Computer for Reading and Writing! This is due to the different read and write speeds mbs of the camera versus the read and write speeds of the computer especially when using different types of SD card readers, adapters, cabling, hard drive read write speeds along with the type of data that the camera is writing. Both digital still or video cameras use different formats to write the digital information to the Card! Sony XDCAM is SXS. Panasonic has their own proprietary type of card and most consumer cameras use either MicroSD or SD! So always format the camera media in the camera and the computer media in the computer! This way you don't have to worry about the Criss-Cross of data corruption!
@@cactusstudiossouth that's a long winded way of saying exactly what I said. but with incorrect information.
This is the best memory card tutorial I watched on YT and I appreciate you breaking it down simply and practically for us.
Thx you very ! it was very clear and helpful !
Great video. This was exactly what I was looking for 😊
Super detailed video with explain easiest to understand. Thanks for sharing Gentelman. 💐
Good work
Great info. Thank you! I’m new to all of this and a true BEGINNER 😂. I jsut learned a lot from this video. The prices were confusing to me. It seems the same cards were $30 at some places and $200 at others.
Thank you❤
I’m a beginner and I just got a like new Sony NEX 7 with a lens for $300 can you please tell me what brand and size GB memory card that I should buy for it to record videos? Because I want to vlog on UA-cam & I also have a MacBook 💻 Pro Mid 2012
any good one about cf cards?
Requesting advice. I just got the Canon R50 that records in 6k but is downsampled to 4k. I shoot real estate video with many short 4k @30fps clips. And hdr bracketed photos that are always shot in Raw.
I don't do any editing since my current computer can't handle it. I just need to put these large files into Dropbox to send off to my editor who handles all the 4k video clips and the 3 hdr bracketed photos.
Can you recommend the best memory card and tell me if I need a card reader to achieve this? Thanks in advance.
Can't find info about my Lumix GH2😩 I'm having trouble chosing the right SD card. I want the best SD card for long and good quality videos.
Great video, Thank you so much!!
HELLO DIETER! I just got a Sony PMW-EXR-1 XD CAM which uses Sony's SXS Cards! I sold the 2 original Sony 8 Mb SXS Cards, (too small for my application)! I then got 2 One Favor SD to SXS Adapter Cards along with 2 Micro Center 128 SD XC Cards! So far after shooting, uploading, editing in Adobe Premiere, exporting and posting on the web I've shot over 5 two hour projects with absolutely no errors at all! My SD card reader to SSD drive averages approximately 32 megabytes per second on the upload so I was quite impressed with that speed! My question is on my Micro Center 128 SD XC Card it has a number 1 in a box next to the SD & the letter I next to the XC! So what exactly does those two values mean?
GREAT VIDEO
Hi Dieter, can I use Sony Tough CEB-G series-CF express memory card on my Leica Q3?. Can you please recommend one ? thank you in advance.
Great informative video! I bought the Sony A7III 4 years ago and have really enjoy shooting with it. I took close to a year break off of no pictures due to some life changes. finally, I’m back at it, and leaving to New York for a week. I’m not bringing any hard drives so thinking of purchasing one more card to add to the 4 I already have. Looks like I need a C10, V60, SDHC II with 64GB. That’s should probably do it. Thanks for boosting my confidence with SD know how. Cheers
Best video hands down on this subject learning a lot about filming and investing in a Sony ZV 20.1 and wanted a great card, this helped me know exactly what I need. God bless you thank you!
This was helpful. I got the nikon z30 but now that I know it shuts off at 30 min at 4k, I am not happy. Thinking about using it for shorter clips as blogging and using my older canon t3 as studio camera. not sure yet
This video was perfectly crafted, you gave the information I was looking for quickly and effectively. Thank you for the awesome content!
I wanted to record UHD 60fps videos on my Samsung galaxy s20 fe.
Will it be possible with a sandisc extreme pro v30?
Thank you, Dieter! This video was spot on for me. I appreciate all of the info, I feel well informed now.
Can you tell me what’s the best memory card for the Sony NEX 7? Cause I will only be using the camera to vlog on UA-cam
Excellent video, thank you 👍
So I’m watching for my I phone 12 pro max. I bought an adapter but nose looking at as cards. I record 4K 60 & photos save as HEIC
Just bought a Sony Zv-e10 cam. This video is what I needed. Thank you 😊
Best explaination I've watched. Thank you very much!
Happy to hear that! Thank you!
what's a good ss card for a lumix g90? i think it can shoot at full hd at 60 fps and at 4k at 30fps. so, is a 256gb card good enough? should be able to fit two hours of 4k video.
Excellent info, great details and insight..
Thanks was very helpful , i already had lot cards but now wanted the choice . thanks
Had to take a moment to thank you for your video, is super clear and easy to understand for beginners, the moment you said you were into hiking and nature adventures I hit suscribe, I'm into the same so is great to see a channel with a mix of those topics, would love to keep seeing your content, keep it up!
Subscribed, when you said "Mountains"
thank you so much mate. my camera was recording files in chunks. I just checked my card and it SDHC. I will get the SDXC now. thank you so much.
