I review the refreshed 2020 Honda Civic Si Sedan which gets some nice changes for the outside and inside, as well as a couple mechanical changes. What do you think about the improvements for 2020 and would you take this over the competition? Huge thanks to Honda for the opportunity!

Something that bugs me about these online car reviews is that they dont take reliability into consideration. I trust a Honda product much more than a Hyundai or VW product.
True, although unfortunately honda reliability has fallen below mazda in recent years.
You're so right I love Toyota reliability I just can't get into Toyota even though the hatchback Apex looks nice still on the fence
I got a 2014 Honda Si Coupe and picking it up Thursday:D
@@cherokeefit4248 nobody cares
Obviously you’re poor ass does. Watching a video on a car and responding to somebody excited to be buying that car ahhahah
He forgot to mention one great feature, that if your car battery ever goes dead you can always run an HDMI cable from the engIne to the rear exhaust pipe and start your car that way.
I think what really surprises me about this car is the mpg.. talk about decent power, fairly good looks, while still having great mpg.
FINALLY, a quality review of the 2020 version 🤣🤣
Had the 2019 SI. Wish I still had it. Best car I ever owned.
Got black one last week , end of generation, pretty good price, CAD 30000+ tax, happy with it so far, good infotainment for me, good handling ( rag hang is true tho) this is my first manual car, can’t complain really
Sport Mode changes the shock damping. Keep it in sport mode most of the time, but if you are driving on a bumpy road, hit the switch, and it softens the ride a bit
It also changed throttle response, fake engine noise is increased and steerilng weight is increased.
@@Maroco918 for 25k thats an amazing deal
This video couldn't come at a better time, I am in the process of getting myself into a 2020 civic si.
I got one. 1,000 miles so far I'm digging it

Ugh
I miss my 8th gen SI everyday!!
I don't miss the black paint peeling away though :) Every black 8th gen I see nowadays has the same paint failure.
I was a little disappointed at not seeing his huge smile after turning onto the back road there
Used to own one, I can confirm that it doesn’t give you that huge smile
I’ve never heard someone complain about heavy steering in a Si
He's weird..its a sport compact wth does he expect
@Sergio Aguirre The guy is a mustang owner and a former brz owner, he drives a ton of cars to review. I trust his opinion even though it's bias a lot of the time. Honda civics are crappy, just hurts hearing it from those who know better. Sorry about your shitty car. lol
Andy S how are Honda crappy they out. Perform the brz that’s rwd and shit on and the competition seems more people hate on them because of it if they truly were shitty cars no one would waste time down talking them
the regular mode is good, and the sport mode feels too heavy. I got that impression too in my own Si
Andy S do you get 5000 mpg with all that fun though
I have a 2018 coupe. Once I got my Ktune done it made worlds of difference and eliminated the rev hang. Great gas mileage and good power when you need it
Sam really worth it? I have a 2019 sport
@@diabeticnova2636 it was for me! You might do some research and see if it's really worth it for the sport. It is for an SI
Sam why would it be worth it for the si and not the sport? Essentially, I would be able to tune my car to be faster , and or better on gas, and less rev hang I’m guessing?
Anywhere you recommend I look this up at to learn more? 😂
@@diabeticnova2636 does the sport have a turbo? I don't know much about them but if it does it is probably worth the tune
How much was the ktune?I had 2 evo gsr and switched to the 2020 SI I’m driving a lot more now and need something good on gas and reliable but been considering the tune
Thank you for your HONEST review. You listening Honda?? All this generation civic makes me want is my 8th gen civic back.
8th gen is the best si sense the em1
0-60 time on the 10th gen Si could easily hit low 6s except for the fact that fuel cut off happens in 2nd gear at like 57mph or something so you need to shift to thirdto hit 60.
They blacked out the car but didnt black out the side chrome strips lol?
Sam Lung yeah, that looks terrible
honda loves their chrome that's for sure.
Biggest flaw on the older models was the black rubber they put over the chrome. Always seemed to chip right off after a few years
I have the black sedan. I love the chrome. Everyone’s got their own opinions
Right but you can easily get that shit wrapped black
But annoying none the less
Replaced my Si with an Accord Sport 2.0T manual.....maybe I'm getting old but I enjoy the Accord so much more. Really the only tweak it needs to make it perfect is a thicker rear sway. Power of course is incredible. If only the Si made at least 230 hp and more torque I think that would be the sweat spot for power while still keeping it affordable.
Pretty sure you could reach above 230 hp with relatively minor after market tuning.
I do love the new Accords too. Just wish Honda would ease up with the amount of Chrome that they put on them.
To each their own. The si has the better handling and sportier feel. But the 2.0 has the power and more practicality. I'ma stay with my si since those back roads is where I wanna be.
I really like the facelift on the 2020 Civic Si
I hope this facelift comes on the Civic Type R!
Whatever design the SI and the hatch gets, it’s definitely going to be there just with the aero kit.
That's not a fucking facelift, nothing changed
You ain’t lying
Wings of KFC well the front end looks great + the wheels are dope af for a stock .. the coupe rear looks great too
but ya still some more changes that could be made.
@@MJ-iq9hv the car looks fine, they just gotta work on reliability this thing is falling apart on me
Nice review Matt and congrats on your upcoming 400k subs! Keep at it, a million is waiting...
Thanks!
LEDs standard a nice change. Great review, Matt!
Good changes overall, looks great in the front. Not so much from the rear. Guess we will have to wait for 11th gen to get rid of the tacky rear vents. Not a fan of the black wheels, they looked better before.
I love my 17 civic si. I like my waffle fake vents vs these flat ones. I do wish I had the LED lights thought... The stock wheels previously were better IMO but these still look good. I love these 10th gen. Yes, I am biased.
Aaron Trillo, your stock wheels are better as well. Hate the look of these new black ones.
The sound being pumped through the speakers and the rev hang really hold this car back.
MzrSpeed rev hang can be fixed with a tune
@@sleeper.simulant7327 It can, but voids warranty. Dealer knows it was tampered with even if you remove.
Ivan J car enthusiasts tune cars. This car is a “tuner” car. Someone’s gonna tune it for more power anyway, so fix the rev hang to. And complaining about voiding warranty, not a true car enthusiast
oldtwins na a true car enthusiast doesn’t care about “warranty”
I prefer the sedan over the coupe

We need that legendary laugh you usually do when you hit the high revs.
The power was too weak for that.

Thank you for emphasizing on the Rev Hang. I had a 2013 civic Si and that was the most annoying thing to me. Even after 5 years, I got much better at driving with it but it still annoyed me. Almost a deal breaker for any future car I buy!
I have the 2020 Si Coupe. 100% agree with you. I didn't realize it had the rev hang when I bought it. Love the car but wouldn't have bought it had I known it had the rev hang. Because of that, it's probably the only Si I'll ever buy. Will definitely be a deal breaker for me for any future cars I buy as well.
Yesss finally a good reviewer on the new si! Good job Matt!
Looks amazing in red... Mine is modern Grey still love it but red looks sharp as hell
I had a 2019 LX sedan that I traded in after 6 months of ownership for a 2010 Yaris. I loved my 2013 Civic so much better. So much simpler and easier to see out of!
Nothing like the K24z7 9th gen Si
If anyone wants to know what the stock exhaust sounds like I've made a full in-depth video on my channel

Drove one & they are unexpectedly nice
Thanks for an informative video. I always appreciate hearing your thoughts.
As an owner of 2017 civic SI, I totally agree with what u said about the drivetrain, but cannot agree with your comments on handling. Lighter steering doesn't mean better handling or more agility. I personally think civic si is really agile and handles really better. The front end response is really sharp, way better than GTI and other competitors( not as good as veloster N). The steering weight is perfect for me.
16:35 wow, it sounds horrible. Gone are the days of the beautiful k20 noises.
Indeed. But believe it or not, that's not even the actual noise the car makes: it's an "enhanced" (fake) sound played inside the cabin through the audio system.
Please somebody don't tell me that ridiculousness can't be disabled somehow.
Wish you could turn off that fake sound. It’s far too buzzy.
Not if you still own a K20 like me😁

@@stevenchandler7364 , thanks I sub'd to him and saw his very helpful video.
The right bumper cutout is obviously for weight reduction.
Matt is such a nice guy and it felt like he was really trying to be positive about this car but just couldn’t. It’s a good value proposition but there just seem to be a lot of disappointments. Honda’s 1.5T manual transmission cars (Accord and Civic) both have awful rev hang and I’m glad he immediately called Honda out on it. Also that engine sounds like garbage compared to Honda’s amazing sounding NA engines. My first car was an 08 Honda Fit, and even that 108 hp 1.5 L NA engine was extremely fun, responsive, and great sounding. The shifter on the Fit was also super satisfying. Honda needs to step up its game again!
The need a fit si
von strong lmaooo
I had a 2018 LX Coupe and it had no rev hang at all. I have the 2020 Si Coupe now though and that car has terrible rev hang. Makes me wish I kept the LX. Love the Si but the rev hang is so goddamn annoying.
Matt does a great job. He really knows honda. I have a 2018 si coupe and it’s a good car but I totally miss the character of my old 8th gen si. I’m not crazy about the turbo at all. Makes the car boring.
You’d rather accelerate slower and get far worse gas mileage just to be able to rev to 8k rpm?
Yep on the revs. Can’t wait to sell mine
Great car, stock suspension is perfect for the street, brakes are strong, transmission shifts crisp and smooth. The engine in stock form is frustrating, insane fuel economy, quiet, probably bulletproof, but it has the character of a dishwasher and some serious rev hang that dulls the driving experience. I'm sure with some tuning/exhaust and an upgraded clutch it would be much better. Overall it's much better than the numbers would suggest and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a refined/fun/economical/reliable daily driver.
It's still a fantastic car, just needs a little tuning to be a great one. Couldn't help but notice the ST badge, I've had a Focus and Fiesta ST, great to drive but got rid of them after 2-3 years because the paint was bubbling on the door jam seams, hood, and hatch because it was RUSTING UNDERNEATH. Honda build quality is light years ahead of Ford and their resale value reflects that.
Why does Honda always have to cover the exhaust tips? Looks like a USB port
HDMI port
Looks more like a micro usb port
Now I can’t unsee it
It grows on u. It's a real tip... It's unique. I liked it.
😂😂😂
I don't think Honda will dare get rid of the rev hang because apparently these super-efficient engines don't burn off fuel well enough on short trips leading to oil dilution! Personally I haven't had the issue in my 17 Si but I got the software update early on in ownership. I also had to deal with the AC condenser recall as well!
I'm in debate on getting a 10th gen si, does the software update fix the oil dilution problem?
@@Geo-Media It's been three years and I'm almost at 100,000 miles! No issues with the stock engine for me. I never waited to get an oil change when the reminder popped up on the dash. I also live in a warm climate. The oil dilution on short trips is most likely to occur to cold climates.
Have you tested the civic sedan sport manual? If i can save 5k now is it a better buy? I'm definitely trying to work my way up to Type R.
More and more people are referring to this "rev hang." I think it's a misnomer. You can actually stay on the throttle by accident without realizing it after you've engaged the clutch. I noticed this in my driving of cars with light clutch take-up and when I paid close attention to make sure and lift my foot fully off the throttle, this so-called "rev hang" went away. In short, I think this issue is user induced and it's a quirk that a lot of UA-cam reviewers appear to have an issue with.
Honda is so unbelievably obsessive with its engineering. It's just hard to imagine that they would let a serious issue like this get past their rigorous testing standards.
Older cars don’t have this issue, it’s an emissions related thing on many newer manuals. Most newer manuals have it a bit to some degree. Look on owner forums and you’ll see lots of complaints and fixes, it’s not just reviewers.
It is truly an issue. I have it in my Si. Rev's stay high even when I'm fully off the gas. I had an LX before the Si and the rev hang in the Si is bad to the point I wish I kept the LX instead of trading it in for the Si. Love the Si but the rev hang makes the car very frustrating and annoying to drive sometimes.
black rims to hide the brake dust from the hawk HP Plus. Hondata is your friend to dump the rev hang. Love the red stitching. thanks for the review!
Literary just bought one a few days ago. And yes, that rev hang is nuts. 🙄
Only dope thing on these cars are the headlights. 99-00 Civic Si were the best looking.
Rather get an si than a type r. Seeing that type r in person and seeing how big and bulky it is...
I think people need to realize the engine is definitely the downfall of this new Si. The 1.5T has lag, and no torque without boost. Compared to the 9th gen 2.4L its a massive difference in usable power. Honda needed to put a de-tuned 2.0T in this Si.
Turbos love tunes. Flashing a tune and your going to be out torquing a 2.4l.
@@richracing7420 Only above 3500rpm! If your daily driving around 2k RPM the engine has nothing to give.

The flywheel is so heavy..... when you turn it off, you have to wait a good few seconds till you take your foot off the clutch or you will feel a jolt forward.
Yep, I did that once lol.
This is what bothers me so much about the new Si. K series Si's have really light flywheels for an OEM economy car. But the sluggish engine speed on these L series cars feels like a diesel. Its a shame because the styling and chassis dynamics are so good on these new civics compared to the K series civics.
I did the same thing once in my garage 2020 white sedan, also the injectors sound like a diesel too at idle.

Can anyone say whether that piped-in engine noise actually sounds like that irl? In the video it sounds like they sourced the engine sound from the first Gran Turismo game.
It's a bit amplified in the vid. It's a more mechanical/ realistic sound IRL, but it is admittedly noticable just not to the degree this video makes it seem.

Miss the 8th gen civic.
Don’t understand why car reviewers don’t mention reliability, he mentions the 1.5 like it’s perfect, it has oil dilution problems.
Which honda engine has ever been perfect. F20s as well as K24s have a very known history of burning oil, and the R18 has a design flaw leading to cracked engine blocks...
Honda ALWAYS had these "generation 1 issues" especially with new powertrains (don't even start with their auto trannys). But usually they issue enough TSB's to mend their reputation. They usually take 2-3 years to fix, they update the generation-1 if possible (much like the L15 with it's fuel dilution now), and they throw in an extended warranty to help ease the tensions (in the case of the oil dilution, it's 6 years unlim milage).
skifree I would prefer to burn oil than to have my engine mix with gas. Honda engines are good, I’m not against Honda, I love them, I’m just saying in general that car reviewers don’t give a shit about reliability, or else they won’t get press cars to review.
