All my friends and family either have a Honda Civic Si or Subaru WRX somewhere in their household driveway. Whether it be a 1995 Honda Civic Si Coupe, 2007 8th gen Si Sedan, 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX Hatchback, or 2016 WRX Sedan. In the absence of snow and on equal summer tires, everybody is still always surprised how an Old Honda NA VTEC keeps up readily on highway speeds with turboed Subaru Impreza WRX's in similar model years. Of course, if you see a lot of snow in your seasons, there are few greater feelings in the world than a manual Subaru WRX with winter tires tearing up on Christmas Eve. Even nowadays you can see some great drivers in the new Turbo 4 2019 Subaru WRX's and Honda Civic Si's holding up well with guys in NA V6's. Now, the Kia Forte GT, Hyundai Elantra Sport, and Veloster Turbo Manuals supposedly offer competitive performance at strong prices, and their ability to last 20 years with little more than oil changes remains to be seen, but I sure hope to see more of them at the local tracks soon.
The problem with the flat black rims is that they get dirty very easy and cleaning them is a huge pain from the dirt potentially staining them from the texture and feel to it making everything stick to them. Work at a car wash and cleaning matte rims are impossible to fully look like they were from the factory. Have a 17 si and the gloss is the best. Easy to clean and you can make them look better than the factory look.

I love this car but I’d love it even more if they did two things: make an AWD option and make it a hatch instead of a trunk (even for the coupe model). That would be a dream.
Mcbear 291 that’s why I said “as an option...” I live in a place where it snows lots and I have a front wheel drive car. Some days I can’t drive it out of my driveway because the snow storm is really bad. I’m trying to find an AWD vehicle that I like with great performance and great fuel economy and the Honda Civic is that but the only downside is the FWD which is why I would never get it. AWD can tackle those big snowstorms we sometimes get and is more safe and MUCH more fun to drive in winter conditions. Plus I bet you can actually get added time on 0-60 because it reduces wheel spin, especially for a manual transmission.
I’m a little biased because we’ve owned several Hondas, including a 2005 Civic Si (and an Acura ILX). But I think the Civic Si is the best compact sporty car value on the market. The Velosters are up there, too, but to me they look and feel “cheap” compared to the Civics. Also, while I prefer the looks of the Si coupe, I’d probably opt for the sedan. It’s just more usable, being able to easily put stuff in the backseat, hang a suit jacket, etc. but it’s also because the coupe’s doors are huge. You’d have to watch how you park to make sure you can get the door open far enough to get in and out. No such issue with a sedan.
I recently purchased one and have already put 750 miles in a week! Absolutely love this car. Although if I may point out one thing about the pedal set up, it is not heel-toe friendly at all.
Can't wait to see when people start putting in larger turbo, improved tune and all the right mods to get this car up to 400whp. If that engine and trans can handle it. Would make an awesome street sleeper.
Thomas Manual transmissions now are hydraulic And very easy to drive I would try one of the other civics as well the SI has a short throw you’re gonna be rowing down the street a lot But it’ll be really smooth and really fun
@@henryperez606 Thanks, yeah, buying a car in 3 weeks. Narrowed down to Civic EX or the SI. Will drive both. Think the SI coupe would be fun and it's pretty economical. Kids are in college so a coupe would work again. Did the sedans when they were growing up and in car all the time ...less hassle.
@@Rude_BoiI learned by myself. You just have to practice in a big empty lot to get good at getting it in gear. Once you feel confident enough then take it on not so busy streets. After a few days take it to the highway. It's honestly super easy.
I would like a carbon fiber kit, for the trim around the window, that would be somthing new and unique, if it could be done with quality, along with a legal tint, and carbon fiber surrounds for the fake vent cutouts?

The updates look good for sure! But how does 205 HP close the gap to the type-R? I mean I have an Acura RSX type s and it already makes 200HP all motor (no turbo lag) as opposed to the new civic which must have at least some turbo lag for basically the same HP. Why not give it a bump to 230 or something?
new subscriber here. my wife and i live in tampa and are currently about to leave for basic training in the navy. we are both definitely buying this as our first car & may even decide to test drive it soon.
Also tuned 30hp & 55tq + gain & turbo spools up way more aggressive. Needs aftermarket clutch & light flywheel 2 reduce rev hang & better driveability imo. Tune did help everything in general tho
@@JRZ67 I've had my Ktuner on my 2017 ex-t since I got it. I have 40k miles on mine now and it's been great, reduced the Rev hang, and really woke up the engine.
Hey Raiti, I love your videos!! I just wanted to let you know you said 26 City, 30 HWY mpg. I'm sure you were just admiring the car so much that you mixed up the second number! I think it's 36 mpg on the highway?
"Squeeze" is the key word here.Although the si is a sweet ride you have to wonder if a 1.5ltr. Turbo 4 will withstand the test of time. At 2,800 lbs I would feel more comfortable with a 2.0.
true, the engine in there should be more than capable to give you a sporty drive and performance without a turbo, and the 1.5 alone can not do this in this car, it absolutely has to have the turbo. No a 2.0 liter like the 8th gen can already match the perfomance number if not exceed them, add a turbo to that, and you have a big smile on your face, mpg would be lower, but with good tuning and modern engine tech not much, you would end up with the 2.0 liter in the accord vtec version with turbo and over 250 torque and 250HP, and close to 5.0 seconds 0-60, meaning even faster off the line, (if the tires stick) then the type R, until the corners come up for it's trick fwd suspension tuning.
This is an excellent out of the box package, don't complain about HP because of course you can add a DP, exhaust, intake and make quite a bit more boost and power.
Still the best value for a sporty coupe. I do think the engine sound is artificial. It sounds too good inside to be true. The exhaust sounds too tame. The HDMI exhaust needs to go. Badly. All in all, I don't know what you'd find with all those features and power for that little amount of cash. Good deal.
Nice little package for the money... i guess Si can also now stand for "Shift it" 😉 Just a few grand more though and you're into a WRX with a lot more power and AWD.
have you seen the interior of the wrx ? Basically a plain interior for 30k lol. wrx from a dig will win against an si. On a roll I think not. Remember wrx is all wheel drive so it has to put power to all wheels which makes it like 230whp. Si makes very close to 205 whp and it’s 300 pounds lighter. Idk man but if my si gapping these wrx and some v6 I’m clowning
Brett Griffith i would argue that altho the wrx is more than just a few grand more (about 4000 to be exact after tax) the wrx is a much better looking and driving vehicle. And now with the oil dilution problems that effect all honda turbo 1.5 cylinder engines reliability isnt what it used to be at all. Wrx isn’t great value at almost 29k otd in most places however but the honda is a poorly styled vehicle with a very brittle transmission
@@EulogizingSleep Civic Si coupe starts at $25k, WRX at $27,495... a few means 3. Not gonna argue "value" with you since i live in the NE and AWD means a lot here, and although i love Civics i'm not a fan of this motor, oil problems or not. I think it's too small, and in 2020 this car should have at least another 25 hp.
Thank you for mentioning auto rev-matching...they should definitely add that for the next gen but get rid of the atrocious rev-hang for the 2021 model year.
Hey, I didn't know bananas came in gaggles!!🤣🤣 Oh yeah, Raiti, I think we're about the same age, I'm 38 and I'm kinda embarrassed to admit this, but I don't know how to drive a manual!🤦🏾♂️ But I'm gonna learn I can promise you that!!👍🏽🤣
That Honda sensing emergency braking in an Si could cause some wrecks in my opinion. Everytime someone shoots a gap it's gonna try to jerk them to a stop
It's not like that, I've had a Civic with sensing for 3 years and it's been great. You can disable CMBS with a button on the left if you really don't want it to kick in at all, but it rarely actually brakes the car unless what you're approaching is going significantly slower than you are. If you're using ACC though, the brakes kick in early. Everything is independently enabled or disabled, you get full control
I tried to pull the trigger on one. It was a fantastic price 25800 otd, but it was just too silly looking inside and out and the rev hang was really bad. Also the oil dilution problem scared the heck out of me living up in the cold mountains.
Hondata tune kills most of the rev hang. 8 psi tune with a few add ons and you get a nice hp boost in sports mode. Then the cars near perfect! I did this on my 2019 si

Can't wait to see when people start putting in larger turbo, improved tune and all the right mods to get this car up to 400whp. If that engine and trans can handle it. Would make an awesome street sleeper.
You are so very right!
I learned how to drive stick shift in 1993 when I bought my first car a 1980 RX7. I’ll take a manual over a auto any day of the week.
I read somewhere that only 6% of car thieves know how to drive a stick shift
Know an old comment. I drive a stick twenty five years ago then 3 automatics since. Thinking of getting an SI next month and going back to the stick.
Thomas
Manual transmissions now are hydraulic
And very easy to drive I would try one of the other civics as well the SI has a short throw you’re gonna be rowing down the street a lot
But it’ll be really smooth and really fun
@@henryperez606 Thanks, yeah, buying a car in 3 weeks. Narrowed down to Civic EX or the SI. Will drive both. Think the SI coupe would be fun and it's pretty economical. Kids are in college so a coupe would work again. Did the sedans when they were growing up and in car all the time ...less hassle.
Just got mine. Same color and everything. Best vehicle I've ever owned! Won't be a lot of cars out there, but it's a fun car to drive.
How did you learn to drive stick? These cars look great especially in coupe, but I can't drive manual lol
@@Rude_BoiI learned by myself. You just have to practice in a big empty lot to get good at getting it in gear. Once you feel confident enough then take it on not so busy streets. After a few days take it to the highway. It's honestly super easy.
Love it. U did a great job putting it through its passes. Wish they hadn’t dropped the tonic yellow color.
As an 07 Fg2 owner I'm sitting hear thinking damn! The 8th gen was the time for a factory tuned k20 turbo coupe....thank you comptech guys btw!
I guess back in 2019 you could buy a new Si for $25k not anymore..
I would like a carbon fiber kit, for the trim around the window, that would be somthing new and unique, if it could be done with quality, along with a legal tint, and carbon fiber surrounds for the fake vent cutouts?
I love how you and Matt Moran Motoring came out with a review of this car the same day lol - You guys should do a collab
Two of the best in business
That would be awesome!
@@onealwapo That really means a lot!
I noticed that too:)
@@RaitisRides As long as you do the buisness side and zonks, Matt can say let's go down this road and see what she can do, and WOOOOOOOH!, and enough electrics already, where are the manuals.
Even though the first video I saw of yours was that super cringe “Hawk One” GT86, your personality is magnetic, man!
I’ve been binging these vids, and I’m not even sure I’m in the market for a new ride!
LOL that Hawk One video is iconic, can’t wait for the second version, Hawk-Two
The updates look good for sure! But how does 205 HP close the gap to the type-R? I mean I have an Acura RSX type s and it already makes 200HP all motor (no turbo lag) as opposed to the new civic which must have at least some turbo lag for basically the same HP. Why not give it a bump to 230 or something?
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I appreciate you watching!
new subscriber here. my wife and i live in tampa and are currently about to leave for basic training in the navy. we are both definitely buying this as our first car & may even decide to test drive it soon.
Thank you both for choosing to serve our country. Best of luck to you!👍🏻🇺🇸
L S thank you :)
Thanks for serving our country and thanks for joining the Raiti's Rides Family! You will love this car!
@@LS1007 Well said!
@@slowedleaks4434 Thanks for commenting and watching!
Nice review Joe! I love my 19 Si... With them summer tires it sticks like glue in corners
Also tuned 30hp & 55tq + gain & turbo spools up way more aggressive. Needs aftermarket clutch & light flywheel 2 reduce rev hang & better driveability imo. Tune did help everything in general tho
Thanks George! You are so very right!
@@honda116969 Oh wow that would work for me!
George R I have a ‘19 coupe but am afraid the strain of an ecu reflash will shorten the engine life. Did you get Hondata or Ktuner?
@@JRZ67 I've had my Ktuner on my 2017 ex-t since I got it. I have 40k miles on mine now and it's been great, reduced the Rev hang, and really woke up the engine.
Finally a good looking civic Si
Coupe but hey its fine. I prefer the 4 door. ❤
Same power and specs tho, I also prefer the sedan
@@scamper3604 Yep same here man
Always a fan of coupe spoilers ! 99-00 was the most epic! I love my 06-09 as well
You guys are crazy. Coupe is so much sexier.
It's nice to have options!
lmao i love the first thing about the center console is the food you can stash
Heck yeah!
Better than a Corolla! Nice job Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
You can say that again!
Man this guy loves everything
Hey Raiti, I love your videos!! I just wanted to let you know you said 26 City, 30 HWY mpg. I'm sure you were just admiring the car so much that you mixed up the second number! I think it's 36 mpg on the highway?
Thanks Brian for the correction and for having my back! I really appreciate it!
The chrome looks fabulous to me.. I like chrome on a red or black car..
Good review I think uI made the most video on the si
Thanks Jay for letting me share it all with you!
16:56, right hand'er, turns left..... hehehe Joe.
I was on the opposite end of the country so that threw me off! LOL
I’ve got the 2018, and it’s a great car. I haven’t put any aftermarket parts yet, but the base is a pleasure to drive everyday.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful ownership experience!
Yep gonna get ahold of my local honda and try to get one thanks for the detailed review 🔥🔥🔥💯
That is so very awesome.
This is an excellent out of the box package, don't complain about HP because of course you can add a DP, exhaust, intake and make quite a bit more boost and power.
You are so very right!
Still the best value for a sporty coupe. I do think the engine sound is artificial. It sounds too good inside to be true. The exhaust sounds too tame. The HDMI exhaust needs to go. Badly. All in all, I don't know what you'd find with all those features and power for that little amount of cash. Good deal.
I totally agree with you!
Good work Joe. That car is really calling out to me. So much value from the SI.
Nice little package for the money... i guess Si can also now stand for "Shift it" 😉
Just a few grand more though and you're into a WRX with a lot more power and AWD.
I value reliability and a quality feel
have you seen the interior of the wrx ?
@@EulogizingSleep Brutal, honest and brilliant comment.
Raiti, you really need to get to NorCal for a drive. You need to drive these cool cars on some great roads.
I totally agree with you Happy!
Great little car Joe, I think Lori would really enjoy one of those, would sure put a smile on her face. Good work Tom!😎💪👍
You are right David! She feel in love with the BRZ.
Thank you for mentioning auto rev-matching...they should definitely add that for the next gen but get rid of the atrocious rev-hang for the 2021 model year.
Well, they added rev matching. Let’s see if they fixed the rev hang.
Hey, I didn't know bananas came in gaggles!!🤣🤣 Oh yeah, Raiti, I think we're about the same age, I'm 38 and I'm kinda embarrassed to admit this, but I don't know how to drive a manual!🤦🏾♂️ But I'm gonna learn I can promise you that!!👍🏽🤣
Bennie Mangle Jr. it’s all good bro. Recommend buying a beater and learn that way. That’s how I did it.
Thanks for letting me share the laughs with you! You can do it man! I promise it isn't as hard as you think.
@@ReggieSanchez23 That is a great idea!
I didn’t learn how to drive a manual until age 36. I’m now 52 and have only driven manuals since ‘04. 2019 Si owner😃
@@JRZ67 That's so funny... most people get lazy and start driving auto's when they get older 😉
@@Grushdevah that's actually really good to know! Thank you
Drinking Game: Take a shot whenever u hear "I like how they..."
Hear
I tried to pull the trigger on one. It was a fantastic price 25800 otd, but it was just too silly looking inside and out and the rev hang was really bad. Also the oil dilution problem scared the heck out of me living up in the cold mountains.
I feel your pain!
Honda = fiabilité ! ( = reliability ! ) ❤ 🇧🇪
So very true!
Hondata tune kills most of the rev hang. 8 psi tune with a few add ons and you get a nice hp boost in sports mode. Then the cars near perfect! I did this on my 2019 si
Thank you for sharing your input and perspective. I really appreciate you watching.
I love overall how this car looks. I'm military and am. So tempted to get this. I'm obviously gonna have to get an aftermarket exhaust
Glad they got rid of the "caveman eyebrow" grill and added the full LEDS, why would Canada get them right away and we had to wait 3 years🤔
I know isn't that weird!
@@josephnorris4095 hey Joe, I have to assume your an older guy like me, I'm almost 50, so thinking practically and down the road, this comes with age but I've put faith in modern lighting tech, it's so good and I wouldn't worry as much about failure, besides, that's what your warranty is for and especially the optional bumper to bumper extended warranty, don't sweat it because the benefits FAR outweigh what your worried about👈
@@josephnorris4095 thats in no way true
Great bang for the buck! I would get the Civic Si sedan so you would not get a crook in your neck! Great that Honda gives choice or Si coupe or sedan at same price. Thanks for the nice review Joe!
I totally agree Robert! I appreciate you watching and thanks for the compliment!
Everywhere u go is a working place. Joe we appreciate what u do for us. Sometimes hard to keep up with contents but u do it for us and we got it do for u. Joe enjoy little time for urself while u out there and always be safe.

Thanks Jin! I love what I do and I love bringing it to you! I totally understand if you can't watch all the time but the great news is the reviews will always be here for you when you are ready!
Good content Raiti. Watched this vid twice. I do like the red but I don’t think I would get it for me. Here in Fl Clermont central Florida the dealer has 2020 white si. Really nice color.
had to watch this older vid since this is my dream sports car hopefully i can make 25k and pick up a 2020 civic si coupe
2020 your year bruh make it happen
teamplsxz are your sure about that? Jk hope you get your civic my guy.
Thought about getting a si.... just didn’t have quite the power I was hoping for....excellent video and informative
people are getting more power out of these engines. The top end horsepower number may not be flashy, but the power curve is really good
Grushdeva you cant make reliable power with this car without upgrading clutch and voiding warranty
Price point it's extremely friendly, but in my opinion I'd get the soft top Miata.
- Fun Video 👍
Miata's are a blast! Thanks for the compliment!
I love the 10th gen but 9th gen si is still my favorite with the K24z7 and looks.
I appreciate you sharing your input and perspective. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic car for the money!
You are so very right Robert!
I wish we could see how well the honda sensing works on these civics. That is the major up grade for this year afterall besides the final drive ratio.
You bring up a very good point Frank!
@@RaitisRides But still great review as always thanks!
And the led headlights.
Nice car! But i would rather wait for the Civic refresh or buy a used older model.
Civic itself is 2021. The Hatchback, si, and type t is 2022. I'm excited, maybe Honda pushes hybrid technology into these cars, especially the type r so you can get 600 miles lol
I am curious to see where they tae the next generation!
@@CvmmanderCvdy It's going to be interesting!
@@RaitisRides for sure! But Honda and other companies seem to be pushing electric vehicles close to 2025 in the US whenever the market grows a little bit. Europe is going fully electric at 23. I hope Honda takes a page from Acuras exterior styling with a more refreshed look at the lineup. Hope Honda keeps it futuristic looking and modern.
