The Legendary Civic vs Corolla, which one of these is your pick? And yes, we know the Corolla has a real 1st gear and the rest is CVT
2020 Honda civic Touring, my mom has one great car!
Civic Hands down
Corolla - I'll take a 2.0L NA engine over a 1.5L turbo any day; because reliability & real world fuel economy, also I'd get the hatchback w/6mt not the sedan w/CVT. I'd also take the corolla over the rest of the competition.
Corolla always.
Corolla for me. I've had my own experience in terms of reliability and Corolla is indestructible. It even has the lowest cost to own.
Toyota Corolla's the best car i have ever own. i had for 10 years and 250k miles with ZERO problems.
truee i have corolla 1996 and still nice smooth driving until now
Me too.
I love toyota but unlucky. My venza was engine problems only 84,000 mileages but still thinking to get the new one between Toyota or Honda
shanagant : if u r in usa, better to buy a used Toyota / Honda 2011 model. Then spend around $2000 on it to change color, parts etc. in low budget u can get good car for ever. Good day
Me too
Having a reliable car is enough fun for me

SuperSpeedMonkey How is the Air Conditioner? Strong? We’re trying to decide and need a reliable, strong AC. Thanks

@@BG-ig6fd im satisfied with it. Been using the AC in 80-90 degree weather lately. Not quite as strong as my 06 Honda Ridgeline, but no complaints.
I got a 2020 corolla base. It actually has a surprisingly comfortable ride for such an affordable car, some standard active safety features and just generally feels well built.
Good choice. Most features that are standard in toyota, most competitors cannot even offer in their lineups.
I can't wait for the Camry vs Accord video.
Jonathan Losito They’ve already done these two separate but, I think he means as a comparison🤷🏽♂️

I drive a golf r and always find my head turning to look at a Corolla xse. Damn good looking car
You sure you’re driving a golf r? You should be turning when seeing an RS5 passing by instead of corolla if you’re really driving a golf r.
@@Machozz maybe he looks at it because it looks good not because he wants the Corolla, you know how you can turn around to check out a pretty women but don't want to wife her

Agree! It look pretty on every side
@@Machozz lol what? Maybe he likes both of them. The reality is that economy cars are upgrading their looks at a rate that is actually faster than sportier cars. In other words, while sportier cars are still going up with respect to aesthetics, you are starting to see diminishing returns. The Civic, Corolla, etc. are reducing the gap between economy cars and sports cars with respect to aesthetics.
i love the looks of the civic more than the corolla

Honda for looks, interiors and best engines in the world.
Toyota for best overall reliability. Toyotas hardly break.
Tough choice!
Agree.
And I think mostly young pick Honda, old pick Toyota.
I would neve choose best overall reliability as a reason for owning a car.
Gotsuken J My first car is the 2020 Corolla, it was a tough choice for me between the Corolla and the Civics. But I took in consideration that i would be driving it for a while.
How does you have the best reliability and the other have the best engine? Shouldn't they go hand in hand?
Aaron Rasey not exactly. honda was originally a engine brand so they have experience to build an engine that’s more powerful yet still more fuel efficient. toyota’s engine are more like, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it so they’re always reliable from the ground up. but saying honda makes be best is a bit much. ferrari currently has the best engine with 3.9 liter twin turbo that produce 660 hp in a 8cylinder but it’s definitely not the most reliable. bmw as well
I have Had 2 civic cars, each one of them went over 200k . very very reliable and easy to maintain. I had a ford and gm in the past never lasted to 200 km
My 2004 4x4 chevy tahoe has 170k miles. Step-mom's 2000 chevy tahoe has 255k miles. She had a 1989 Buick park Avenue they sold with 258k miles in the late 90s. Depends on what cars you are getting.

So basically the 4 year old Civic is aging well against the all new Corolla.
That’s Toyota for you. They focus on “Just enough” and never lead on features and performance but rather safety and reliability. Honda is always ahead of its time with the former.
Michael Rafael, so true. Honda definitely takes more risks to be innovative.
Bonda tries to be ahead but that cost them reliability
Michael Rafael Honestly they over achieved on the new camry, new Highlander and Avalon. But not the corolla
AJ Lee Honda takes more risks but that’s why toyota is more reliable.

Just bought a 2020 Corolla hatchback for our 80 mile round trip commute to work daily . It’s been averaging 44-46 mpg with the cvt . Decent power and I love the fact it has no turbo which will give problems down the road . For the power it has it’s a great car for the great price I got . Dealer came down from 23,600 to 20,200 with car sales being slow . I was shocked for this much discount on a cheaper car

Your right because mines lock when I walk away
I have the 2020 2.0 Civic and I have it set to where when it is put into park it unlocks, and when you take it into drive or reverse it locks. There is also an option that only once the driver's side door has been opened then the other doors will unlock. I imagine that would be hepful when kids are in the car.

I remember when cars were relying on engine power/efficiency, suspension system and ride quality instead of the infotainment and cameras everywhere. If you can't drive without your blindspot monitoring and parking sensor then you shouldn't be driving on the roads at all. But that's just my opinion...

I own corolla se and have to say I don’t experience any road noise issues or rear break issues. The infotainment system isn’t integrated into the dash very well at all but it still functions really well and actually doesn’t ruin driver visibility. The cvt is actually not bad either. Only complaint would be rear headroom for anyone 6’1 or taller. And if I had to get really picky, the sound system isn’t good but that’s an easy aftermarket upgrade. I’m coming from a 2016 vw gti with the 6 speed too...

Have you bought the Civic yet?
Which one will last longer and therefore have a higher resale price? I think the Corolla, because it has a bigger non-turbo engine.
You're right. The Honda 1.5L turbo engine has a problem with the direct injection. Gasoline gets mixed into the oil, which can cause all sorts of problems.
@@leeham6230 in extremely cold environments, rarely. But yes, does happen
@@deansmits006 That's a bullshit misconception propagated by Honda. In reality, it happens in all climates. Too much pressure from the direct injection combined with the turbo causes the gasoline to seap through the pistons into the oil.
@@leeham6230 I can confirm I live in NC and it hasn't been cold at all! I had the same view. The corolla rear is really nice.
Hugo Ferreira respectable opinion as i think that the front end of the corolla you either absolutely like it, or it really has to grow on you. where the rear end looks so smooth. while the civic tail lights are atrocious
arcanine 917 Got behind a Corolla today and just for a second thought it was a Camry. Definitely like the Corolla rear end better then the Civic. Both cars are good and wouldn’t complain over either. But I’ll keep my 06 Civic till it falls apart. Love not having car notes.
Hugo Ferreira civic looks like ASS!
Mike R
Quit spamming
I agree the Civic is a cleaner look. I don't know why Toyota put the LCD screen where they did. I wish they would have left it integrated into the dash like they did in previous generations. Other than that, and the lack of rear cross traffic alert not being offered on the Civic, I don't think you could go wrong with either one. For me, the RCTA system is beneficial so it's a pretty easy choice for me. I can get over the radio/dash layout of the Corolla but do prefer the layout of the Civic better.
But another big factor for me (coming from a GM vehicle and having mostly American made vehicles in the past) is the reliability. While every company has had their ups and downs in terms of reliability, I feel that Toyota has maintained their overall reliability status with the Corolla. I mean ,the Corolla is a commuter car, the Civic is more of a sporty commuter car. But at the same time, I feel that the newer Civic's aren't as reliable as their older ones (like the 90's models). I feel they started to go downhill when they redesigned them in 2001 and thus lost out on things like reliability (the 2001-2002 Civics were not very reliable) to Toyota at that point. Plus also Toyota has the CVT thing down pretty good as they have been making them for 20+ years. Honda not quite as long, so from a reliability standpoing, I still think Toyota edges out Honda by a bit.
I would say thought if you do get a Corolla, get at least the SE With the 2.0L and the modified CVT with the actual take-off gear. Helps in multiple ways, one of which being less wear on the CVT (as CVTs don't handle torque all that well, compared to a regular transmission with actual gears).
Up and Down on the Civic steering wheel control lets you quickly shift between radio inputs. FM is down from AA/ACP and SXM is one up.
Really enjoyed this review format, feels like a conversation among two (very witty) friends!
impressive what Toyota is getting out their engines without a turbo !!
They worry about long term reliability more. Corolla is a huge car for them. They sell 350,000 a year. Best selling car of all time.
They don't wanna risk screwing up the image of durability.
Honestly most people buying these cars don't care about turbos and power.

Yep.. not a pretty car ... I don't care. It's a tool for a job. Simple as that.
I have owned both 2016 Civic & 2021 Corolla SE, I say CIVIC hands down. I think if you are more into exterior of the car, color is a big factor for both cars. My civic was blacked out with chrome accents making it sparkle in the day time, and mysterious at night. My corolla is the bright white with black & graphite accents making it much more noticeable. I agree that the civic handles much better on the road, and is much lower to the ground giving more of a sporty feel. Interior the civic was much roomer, I have 40" legs so there was plenty of room to stretch out and I notice that my knees are constantly knocking in the corolla. When it comes down to technology, corolla definitely has more bells and whistles with the 2021 model that they've expanded on through the Toyota app adding android play and alexa. The middle center console is bigger in the civc but it has larger cup holders, deeper storage, more compartment trays to easily conceal things (sunglasses, ez pass, coins, etc.).
I had a 2020 Corolla SE and I only had 1 oil change in it. I was going down the highway at 55 mph when a Range Rover pulled out in front of me, I hit the front diver side finder at 55 mph my car made about 5-8 spends and I went into a 5' ditch. All the air bags came out, shifted the front end, split the front right rim and tire completely and cracked the windshield. The cab had no damage, I walked out the car with some aches and pains and I will go back and get the same car.

-But which one has heated side mirrors? Huge plus in cold climates!
-I have concerns about the longevity of a turbo stressed engine vs the normally aspirated Corolla.
-7:18 Interesting they feel less cramped in the corolla due to the lower, more narrow console but specs say civic has more front seating width and leg room.
it's because of the design and not the actual space
Thank god for toning down your perspective on cars that we mere mortals buy¡
I’d go for the Corolla. Toyota CVTs are some of the best available and should get more life out of the engine since it does not have a turbo.
Yea if you have a problem i turbo its pain in the as

Turbo is overrated
I've test-driven both, the Honda definitely handles better. The Toyota still handles well, but not quite as flickable. That's enough for me to choose the Honda, but it's a close call.

Mudassar Messi - no, you look biased. He chose the one he liked to drive more-that’s not biased. Biased is not accepting his decision because you don’t like the Civic.
In civic you do not have to press the button to lock it if you change the settings in the car and the car locks automatically when you go away from the car. So, it is more convenient according to me as you get the auto lock walk away feature.

Civics are my favorite car(preferably manual)😍
The Corolla does have a real first gear, in any of the 2.0 liter trims.
tipoomaster I wish they would’ve mentioned this. It really helps off the jump!
I've owned both , currently the Honda and previously the Corolla. I've had 2 a.c. issues with the civic in the past year . The car has 85000 miles . This has amounted to close to 4k in repairs by the dealership. Luckily I bought a 100k warranty - which I usually never do . This cost me 2k . No more Hondas for me . I'm currently shopping the Corolla SE . My Corolla never had any major issues and I sold it at 140k miles.
There was a recall for Civic AC, have you used it?

I've owned 2 corollas and 1 civic, all newer models, Corollas def. held up better and performed better over their lifespan.
I owe a 2020 Corolla LE, the interesting thing is I can't open the trunk from outside if I don't use the remote control. There is no button outside the trunk door to open it. This is so wired.
Wenhong Li are you sure? Mine has it
