    this is just on time. I wanted something safe to spray on the weeds in my yard, because I don't believe in using chemical weed killers because I realized it was killing the baby rabbits, and other poor animals that lived in my yard. Today while watering my roses I watched about seven very tiny baby bees go from rose bud to rose bud which made me happy and sad because they are dying at an alarming rate out of our selfish desire to have a beautiful lawn regardless of the cost to the environment. I don't have the prettiest lawn but I have one of the healthiest and I have the wild life to prove it.

    • @scottsatterthwaite4073
      @scottsatterthwaite4073 2 роки тому

      Exactly what weed killer was killing the baby rabbits? Another point: you did not see "baby bees". You might have seen individuals of a small species of bee. Worker bees are fully grown adults. The queen lays eggs, the eggs hatch into larvae, the larvae pupate inside comb cells and emerge as adult bees. Oh, do you know what the biggest natural food sources of bees are? Dandelion, clover, thistle, and several other "weeds" that we humans habitually destroy as "noxious" invaders in our lawns and roadsides. We destroy natural habitat and wonder where the bees go.

I add 1 1/2 quarts of 5% white Vinegar. 1 1/4 Box of Table Salt, and fill with water to full line. Then I give a good healthy squirt of the cheapest dish soap I can find. The strongest, most concentrated Vinegar available is known as Glacial Acetic Acid. "Glacial" refers to its high concentration of Acetic Acid such that it forms crystals resembling ice at slightly below room temperature. Caution must be used with rubber gloves and a respirator, because Glacial Acetic Acid will burn skin on contact and cause lung irritation if its fumes are inhaled. Using a droplet of Glacial Acetic Acid from a dropper will kill a weed. Glacial Acetic Acid can be diluted with water to make whatever less concentrated Vinegar that is needed.

    I use bleaching powder, the algae and weeds haven't grown in last 2 years. Bleach will practically dehydrate the weed by sucking all its water converting it into HCl(hydro chloric acid). Leave it in for a couple of days and it will penetrate and kill it's roots also. A long term solution I adopted for algae and weeds growing on my roof where water stagnates some time due to rains and subsequent dust and moisture situation, due to drainage issues.

      if you cut the plant and spray on root stem it will kill it or use boiling water that will kill roots too and worms??

  • @dougrhess

    30% vinegar isn't going to hurt the bushes. At most, it will kill or burn the leaves it touches. So you can be a little sloppy and it's ok. It does smell for a day or two. And for tough weeds, it won't kill to the roots, thus you'll need applications two or even several times. I haven't found the need to add salt or soap. I just buy "agricultural vinegar" (usually 30%). I've had good results even diluting it to 20%. Using it on a hot, sunny day is important.

    Perfect .....Do you have like a Sprayer that will cover most of these weeds...without me going from one to so many weeds at a time?
    I also would like to know if that vinegar solution is available anywhere ....and what brand is the best....

    Thank you for sharing this product. I have some questions, I’m trying to avoid chemicals outside so it’s completely safe for my family. Would you say this is completely safe after being applied?
    Also is there a good liquid (or non liquid) solution to spray on the on that is natural/organic to kill weeds but not grass. That’s my burning question!

    30% vinegar sounds great. Howard Garrett (The Dirt Doctor) has a time tested recipe that includes adding orange oil or d'limonene to the mixture to make it more effective. He also has a note about salt being very damaging to the environment, so it would be great if that wasn't needed.

    I got some stuff from a landscaper. He told me to be careful with it and to dilute like 100:1 I probably do 50:50 lol it takes about 3-4 days to start working. I done my whole drive way 6 months ago and still no weeds 👌

      So you decided not to take advice from the guy you're paying to know, and to use it at a much greater strength, and you have no idea if following his advice would have worked, but are ok telling the comment section on UA-cam that if you use poison at many magnitudes greater than the strength recommended by a paid professional it will work to kill weeds?

    I would think that you could buy the 30% vinegar and then reduce it to half it's strength by using half water and half vinegar, this way it would still be 15% strength. Just a thought. Oh, and to reduce any possibility of harming bees, I like to spray about half an hour or so before sunset. Usually, when it starts getting dark they do not visit the flowers anymore.

    Good information, especially on the differences in vinegar. I am definitely going to use this method in my immediate fenced in back yard in order to be more pet friendly, however, I would need a 55 gallon drum of this vinegar for the rest of my property. I really wish that it was cheaper.

      Just treat your lawn spring, summer and fall, seeding in bare spots & eventually - approximately 2 years - your grass will take back the lawn. There is no need for weed killer or chemicals that are harmful to pets, wildlife & humans. Just takes a little patience.

      tenacity takes up to 1-3 weeks to kill them and after 2 weeks you can apply a second application. Give it time it is both pre and post emergent so will give excellent long term results.

  • @martinmorris8862
    @martinmorris8862 3 роки тому +3

    Any vinegar will do, (cheap and cheerful) and its the acetic acid that burns the weed. Never add anything else to the mix. Vinegar mostly only damages the greenery, (burndown herbicide) but does kill off some of the more delicate weeds. There is no need to get any expensive vinegar as it all achieves exactly the same effect any cheap shop bought will do. Never add salt, bicarb, dish soap or anything else. Just vinegar . As well as being a waste of time and money it will also damage the growing medium and impact the environment. If you find you need to use vinegar on growing beds instead of digging out the weed and killing it you can use vinegar to burn it and use a sponge or paint brush to spot weed. remember any old vinegar will do. the acetic acid burn just takes a little longer to take affect . Extensive trials have been done on the use of vinegar and though it does have some environmental impact it also cant be used near waterways, streams, rivers, ponds. Just remember cheap is just as good and never add anything else.
