I went to the wax museum in Las Vegas, and they have a Blue Man Group exhibit where they have that pvc pipes set up and you can play them with paddles. You can even change the pitch of the pipes by pulling the tubes up and down.. I'm a drummer and I literally stayed on that thing for like an hour while my family finished the exhibits because I had never played or experienced anything like it before lol.
I've wanted to play one of those things SO BADLY ever since I was 12 years old (I'm the only person I know who can say a BMG record is one of my all time favorites, right alongside Who's Next and Songs For Silverman lol)
Hey Jeff, what a pleasant surprise when this popped up on my UA-cam feed . . . glad to see you're still mandelgrooving! I can believe it's been 20 years since you gave me the behind the scenes tour . . . rock on!
JT is a LEGEND. Great dude. Blue Man Group OG. You should see him perform in the band Tinnitus ( few BMG band members rocking out together while Jeff sings it out) Love you dude!!!
It warms my heart to see someone else using the Mini China on an Xhat stand w/ a 12" HH top! I've been using that same setup since the mid 1990s and it's a great effect.
Roger that! I went around the same time. During the period when Tim “Herb” Alexander had a run with them. Got to take a pic with him in the lobby after the show. One of the best experiences ever.
My wife and I saw Blue Man Group a few weeks ago and it is still my favorite show on the Strip! We also caught you at Todd Kern's birthday. I was the one that left the comment, I feel sorry for your cymbals LOL
When I worked as Light Tech assistant 1 day. I was disgusted to learn it was a show on a cd not live about 2008. Very well rehearsed. The custom light console had missle command game in it.
I've seen the BMG show in Vegas 5 times and I loved every single performance, I also own their show made paintings, drum sticks and have their face paint autographs. Luxor 2002 Luxor 2004 Venetian 2009 Monte Carlo 2015 Luxor 2018
There's glass around the band members? I didn't even notice, heck I thought I was hearing the drums directly from the band towers, turns out they got some really good speakers in that theater
My pleasure, thank you for enjoying! No. There are moments of improvisation within the Blue Man estehtic/style and a specific section where its pretty crazy drumming wise. No written music, but yes to arrangements, there are specific parts and sections
Interesting note about the show. When I auditioned many years ago, I had a conversation with a blue man and he told me the pay scale. It’s actually pretty low considering the amount of shows. The reason is, because you don’t have speaking roles, you’re considered a clown and the pay for that is something like 2k per week if I recall? Gotta be higher now, but it was way lower than I had anticipated.
That is interesting, especially with the amount of money these guys must take in Vegas. But not gonna lie, £8k+ per month for a dream job, I'd take it!
@@musiqsoundsproductions Even pre-tax in Nevada, it's a pretty sweet deal (for those of appropriate work ethic and stamina!). @@02smithm1 even in the uk the employer doesn’t cover insurance if you are a hired gun on contract (that is if the Uk still hase the same rules after brexit) and when you do tours or shows you aren’t an empolyee but a hired contractor. BASS drum for decades....that other word, maybe 15 years? I've never kicked my bass drums...ever since I started playing drums in '77...lol Carry on --cheers!
I love these guys' enthusiasm. This whole operation looks like a drummer's paradise
Blue man great show, very much for drummer's

It's called a Drumbone. There's schematics, instructions and videos online if you want to try make your own.
@@BryanSteacy I dont wanna work that hard :P
So that where the old pvcs went, the Vegas show has had a new one every time they moved locations
Blue men are great, highly recommended 👌
Too cool!
Way to go, Jeff!!!!
Gotta get out there to see you soon.
Thanks James, comon out!
Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure to see you guys two weeks ago in Vegas.
Great episode . Thx ;)
Great video Jeff!!! Glad to see your well and wishing you continued success!!! ✌🏻

Saw them in 2010 Boston. They were doing the paint drums at the time, hilarious and incredibly musical show.
That's artistry at a very unique level. I never had the privilege to see the show; hopefully some day. Greetings from Montreal, Canada.
Seeing one of your shows is on my bucket list.
Thanks for the seizure at the beginning of the video Really needed that
Cool to see Kalen explaining everything!! It all sounds and looks great!!

Jay! Thanks for the props and the Tinnitus plug, sending love back to one of the best soundmen in the buis!
Our band played a gig with Tinnitus in South Africa a few years back, those dudes not only rock but are such rad dudes too.

this was dope, gave me a lot more appreciation of BMG!!
Very cool tour of the instruments and musicians.
Extremely cool thanks for uploading this this was fun to watch
Wow, Jeff from Syracuse is still with them, that's awesome
Wish I could catch your show. Amazing stuff from what I seen of older shows.
Saw these guys in NYC. They were awesome
I caught Jeff with Femmes in Reno at our Italian fest last time around. Nice to see a Vegas style show in Reno and Jeff was great~
Thanks Nathan, the Italian fest was fun with the Femmes! ha

The BMG is coming to my city in a couple of weeks and I got tix for xmas. This was a cool concert psych up for me.
Outstanding shipmates. Press on. USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 Jan 1980 to July 1983. Art lover for life.
I always wanted to be a drummer for them.
Greatest show I’ve seen. The BMG is obviously the ‘star’ but the band was right there killing it
very interesting. I've seen Blue Man Group live and it never occurred to me there were more drummers "in disguise"
amazing!
😎👍It's not easy being BLUE man!
Wow, they’ve come a long way since I saw them about twenty years ago at Luxor.
Its good to see they kept the drum wall sort of the same
I saw the Luxor show too back in the day, and quite enjoyed it. Need to go back and see the current one.

As a musician, especially a drummer. I would be deep in my element.

I would hate to be thier tech. Lol. That's a great deal of head changing.
Like an old school circus drummer with a three ring circus.
Thank you for your wonderful demonstration. Can you improvise or solo at anytime during the show? And did you rehearse written music or arrangements ?

I wonder what I mics they use?
Probably good ones
