So what do you call the skin which surrounds the rest of the nail, not the proximal nail fold? I always thought the cuticle was all around the nail!!! This is where the first confusion comes in. I cannot find a term for that surrounding tissue. That is where most of my problems are.
Thank you so much for teaching and sharing this knowledge with us. I've learned so much today.
That was a very interesting read. For years I have been removing the keratinized PNF believing it was the cuticle as this was what I was told. I am a cuticle picker and I have now learnt that I am a PNF picker, no wonder my nail plate is so horrible.
Wonderful advice! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this education, you are helping me so much. I think due to acrylics for so long and having them removed improperly the skin around my nails is hard and is actually painful. I am trying to find a good nail tech who does manicure the way you do. Do you have any advice on how to find a good nail technician ? Thank you so much. ❤ Nicole
This is how a real manicurist takes care of the hands, as if you would the rest of your body. Nails techs just want to make it look good, and do a fast job get paid but really over time you're just destroying the natural part of your nail that takes so long to grow back. I appreciate your patience and your craft in doing a service the proper way. I am so glad I found someone on UA-cam who is a naturalist! thank you😊
Very helpful to see you do your own nails because that’s the angle we do our own from 😀
Very true! Thank you for watching and commenting! ❤️
I like short nails, simple polished looks, and try to do my nails weekly, but from watching this video, I realize that I am butchering the skin by my cuticles with trimmers. This was very helpful. Thank you.
Just an FYI for the male voice talking about vitamins and supplements… I worked for a pharmacy and the pharmaceutical owner told me that the majority of the products on the market are not fda regulated and they don’t actually contain exactly what they list on the label. He said when he or his family need a supplement (that the doctor recommended for them to take) he would only buy the brands that take part in the 3rd party USP testing which is an impartial testing program that brands can voluntarily take part in. Only a small percentage of the companies on the market actually have that accreditation from submitting their products to testing…. Look into that folks!
@AnastasiaBurchick what are some good brands please?
Yes , I would love to find out which ones are using the 3rd party method ?
Same please
I want to know as well!
Nature Made is a brand of vitamins and suppliments found in many American grocery stores and pharmacies. It is USP verified (a 3rd party verification). 🙂
I also noticed many products with labels of 3rd party verification at Vitamin Shoppe. I haven't checked myself, but I'd also suggest GNC, or any other health food store or grocery store that heavily markets healthy living and healthy eating.
I am a nurse, I wash my hands hundreds of times and even when I use hand cream, cuticle balm and oil daily my cuticles still get very hard. So if I don't do manicure twice a week just to keep them sorted they look and feel awful.
Thank you for this very fun video. 😊
I started watching your videos about two weeks ago and I've learned so much from you already. I've always had ugly nails and hands and I'm so uncomfortable with them so I'm constant hiding my hands. But now I feel like I will be able to make my nails look better in time thanks to the information you've given in your videos. Thank you for all you do! ❤
Hi Suzanne! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m so glad that you are finding our content helpful! Manicures (the way I show them) are actually quite easy. The key is so do them regularly and consistently but being very gentle.
I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 38 years your video is an excellent and informative instructional tool several people can benefit from. ❤️👍🏻
Hi from London Anna. I love watching your videos. Your warm oil soaks have worked 100% for me. I had two nail tips that were constantly flaking and breaking whatever I tried. Using the warm oil soak regularly and filing down the growth til the tips were healthy and now I can grow them longer. All flakey tips have gone. Thanks.
I enjoy all of your videos, but this just felt like hanging out with a friend and I loved it.💚
Thanks so much for that Jen, hope you're doing well. - MSL
I’ve just finished my second small natural manicure, like you suggest and my nails already look so much better. I really can’t believe it. But obviously I do. Thank you xxxx
So happy to hear this!! Thank you so much for writing!!!
Great advice. I have learned a lot. Love the simple manicures❤
I love your gentle approach to nail care!!
Your husband is sooo funny. We need more of him in your videos. His personality is EVERYTHING!!!
Thank you for your kind words! 🤗❤️
@@TheSalonLifeAnna all this time I was thinking he was a dear friend I’m fairly new to the channel glad to know!😀
PS. I agree with the multivitamin comment. There is a lot of much-too-little in multivitamins. If you need iron or vitamin D, you’re not going to get near enough in a multivitamin. Everyone in the northern hemisphere should take 2000IU vitamin D (unless they are told otherwise by their doc) needed from an early age especially for women and bone health. If low in iron, establish that there is not a malabsorption syndrome like Celiac or pernicious anemia, and have vitamin B12 checked. Consume foods high in iron content to avoid having to take constipating iron supplements.
That’s my $0.02 worth today! 🥰
I can't thank you enough for these videos! I've learned so much. Between my own ignorance in cutting the nail fold/being very rough with manicures and a terrible habit of picking my 'cuticles', my nails have always been a wreck. They now look better than they ever have.
Really? Same for me but to bet beatiful nails for myself seems impossible
I think this is a very doable manicure. So well explained. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise 💕
I use to bite my nails from when I was younger but have, nt for years and now have nice nails and look after them now and always watch your videos which have helped me so much and want to thank you so much for the time you give us ❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your kind words. They mean more than you know :)) ❤️
Your nails and cuticles look SO good! I would love for mine to look that way... I'm taking your advice and hoping to improve them following your tips. I'm a cuticle picker (even moreso when I'm stressed), but I'm working hard to break that awful habit.
I just got a rush of good feeling about you guys when you started talking about “Self Care” vs. self-indulgence, and that by using manicure time to listen to an educational or edifying podcast it’s about something deeper than just self-indulgence. You do simple quick manicures in yourself, your hands are beautiful, and it’s such a balanced approach to beauty! Love it! You and Mr.Salon Life are just awesome!
P.S. How can I get Lidl Cien Nail Brightener in Canada? Is it sold online?
Hello, thank you so much for your kind words! You know truly I think when people learn a simple manicure, they are able to do something small for themselves it can actually be quite empowering. It’s kind of learning that it’s important that we learn that our health and well being is our responsibility and we have the ability to do so.
Sadly i think that polish was a limited edition and I haven’t seen it anywhere.
i would love to see a video of how to shape natural nails! i just found your channel and have been binge watching your videos - you have a new subscriber. thank you for all the great content!! ❤️ 😻
Hello, I'm 46 years old... and thanx to your tutorial, I finallly understand why I thought going to the "manucurist" was a nosense as long as I felt pain (I went 4x in my entire life ;-)) and felt that my nails were injuried (my body). Thankx to your video's I realize that what people thought was "lazyness" or "laisser-aller" as we say in French was in fact body consciousness and I realise that my nails are super healthy and I'll finally be able to do a healthy and beautiful manicure !!!! You're blessed (yes, yes ;-))).
I was a nail biter and had lots of hangnails. Keeping my nails polished with regular or polygel finishes has completed stopped those behaviors and I have great nails now !!! Thank You, God!
Just started using Kerasal and omg - my cuticles/nails look fabulous! I've tried all kinds of lotions/creams and none work as well as Kerasal. Thanks so much for recommending!!
Which Kerasal product are you using? Is it the nail renewal?
You convinced me to try Dazzle Dry…I just ordered from Amazon a mini kit with all the steps…It is true, during the pandemic I stopped wearing nail polish and my nails have NEVER looked healthier. I use oil at least once a day on and near the nail, and also bought the Germanikure files….My grandmother did nails and I learned from her to let nails go polish-free regularly and to not cut the cuticle! Also, I am going to look for the Cien nail brightener just because. Love your channel and BOTH your mannerisms are so relaxing.
I just love youre channel,Anna, and Mr.Salon life(lol)...even though im retired now,i can sit and watch you both, anytime i want!!...ive learned so much from you Anna!!..thanks...44 years with doing nails!
I love the shape and the health of your nails. Even though they are kept fairly short, the nails has a lovely oblong shape. I am working on my nail folds gently and using the jojoba oil daily. I filled a small roller ball vial with jojoba oil which travels neatly in my handbag, so I can apply it on the go. I am working on my hard skin on the sides of my nails which keeps getting a ragged edge. The urea cream seems to be helping, albeit slowly.
Have you tried Kerasal ointment?
I talk about it here:
3 simple habits that will transform your nails (for the better!) ua-cam.com/video/8LXeYtTG8OU/v-deo.html
Your way of explaining is awesome and clear. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you SO MUCH. This video was SO HELPFUL in my understanding of WHAT I am doing with my nails and WHY!!!
Thanks Anna for sharing your knowledge. I am too rough on my cuticles & proximal fold. Old habits die hard. I wore acrylic nails for years and the trauma & damage has been long lasting. Those old manicures gave me bad nail care habits. I’m learning, though!
My biggest issue these days is dryness and hang nails. I’m older (61) and oils have become a huge part of my skin/nail care. Consistency is the key and it’s hard to use these products as often is I REALLY need them. ❣️❣️
Will medicine harm nail
Thank you so much for this information! I always wondered why my cuticle bed is dark and I realize that I’ve been traumatizing it with the pumice stick which I used to remove the cuticles. I will follow your suggestions.
The glass tool you use for cuticle removal works so well. It is my favorite tool to do this. But, I only remove the cuticle if I’m going to wear polish.
MSL is pretty great - always supportive and good natured and adding in touches of goofiness 😊
Yes very easy! Thank you guys!🥰
Yes this is easy and such great information with such great 2 voices
I had no idea that you can gently file the hard skin by the nail with a glass file -- will make a huge difference!
I found your channel last evening, I want to tell you I think your nails are so beautiful…
I stopped going for manicures 8 years ago. I love doing my own nails, and since I have , I no longer have living skin around my cuticles. When I used to go for a bi monthly manicure, my living skin was getting thicker and thicker.. I like to keep them short. I also do not go for pedicures anymore either… I never use polish on toe nails
Besides the money I save, I love that I have no more living skin around my cuticles. I now know from watching your videos that it’s important to keep your nails very moisturized, with the right product. I am vegan so I worry about deficiencies, although blood work always comes back ok..
I subscribed♥️
Thanks! You are addressing so many questions of mine today.
Thank you so much for your support Denise ❤️
I'm late to this party but had to share this story with you. Our youngest son was holding a door open for me but it was too heavy and as I passed through, his fingers got caught in the door as it closed on the hinge side. Long story short we ended up in the ER and an orthopedic doctor had to do surgery on his index finger. The nail matrix lifted and was poking through his skin at the base of the nail....like past the cuticle line. It was AWFUL.... poor baby! He was only 3yrs old. The doctor explained that if he didn't reattach that properly, his nail would be misshapen forever and wouldn't grow in like a normal nail. Good content, I subscribed 😊
What I listen to and look on when I do my manicure is often, like today, your videos!
Very very helpful. Thank you so much! I have autoimmune diseases. I remember when I was first being diagnosed the specialist spent a lot of time examining my nails and the tissue around them. I found it so interesting. I ofc went home and immediately googled to see what they were looking at. 😉
I spend my evening watching you guys and sucking up all of the information you kindly give. Xxx 🥰
What clear polish do you use? Sorry if you mentioned it already. Your nails are so clean and sheek ❤
You've helped my nails in just a month. I got these glass files and the Mavala with formalin, so my nails don't bend when I file them. Maybe I will finally be able to grow my nails more than a week without the ring fingernail splitting in half someday.
Hi Jessica! Just remember please to stop using it when your nails achieve a good and healthy hardness. Too much hardener can make nails brittle and make them shatter.
Thank you so much for your videos and advice. The info you have shared has helped my nails soooo much!
Hi Carmen! Thank you so much for your kind words! Very happy that our videos helped :)
Hello again! The YT app didn't show that you donated so I didn't know, just noticed it now :) Thank you so much!!! ❤️
OMG! I learn something new with every video! I like the idea of shaping nails with the colour still on! My hairdresser will often cut my (very curly) hair dry to get the shape right!
And may I say that your videos are my current selfish indulgence. I have a multitude of hobbies which I’ve turned to over the years, needlework and Zentangle to name a few, but they require some concentration and focus. My job has been so overwhelming I really needed something more soothing and relaxing to wind down with. You have encouraged focus on regular nail care and great health tips, and again learning something new with every video is still stimulating. With information overload, I don’t listen to podcasts, but I will often do my manicures while watching, with guilty pleasure, Rupaul’s Drag Race!!
Hello Donna! So true about information overload. It’s just too much for an average person I think but I guess you kind of don’t have a choice when you are a doctor and you have to know so much about everything. I don’t know how you guys do it. Especially GPs. And Veterinarians. Such a broad field. Very often as important as it is to keep the mind active it’s learning how to quiet the mind too.
Oh, Anna, you are sooo right!!! Quiet is just what I need! Thank you for all you do! Hopefully I’ll have an hour or 2 to do the ridge testing and quiet my mind!
🤗🥰♥️
I just found your channel. Loving learning about nail health!
I just found your channel and am so thankful! I've been tapped in the cycle of cutting what I thought were my cuticles for like 40 years. It all started in my teens when I somehow used this Revlon cuticle cutter stick thing. Then because the skin always grows back thick and ragged, I'd have to cut them again. Thank goodness, I now understand the anatomy of the nail and know what to do! 🙏 I have some cuticle oil, an orange stick and just bought some foot cream with urea in it (which I will also use on my dry and callous prone feet!). My hands have always been so dry and it's hard to find hand creams that work. Anyway, my question is, "what do I do once the skin around my nails starts to grow and I have longer rough bits?" My habit will be to trim the skin but should I do everything mentally possible to not touch it and just add the urea moisturizer and oil until the skin starts to go back to normal? How long do you reckon this process will take? I want lovely looking proximal nail skin like yours!! Thanks
Ditto! I am trying to regrow my sidewall skin to be healthy but there are often dry bits almost dangling off that I figure can't be healthy living skin so I trim just that tiniest bit off, being exceedingly careful to not cut more. Is this the right thing to do @TheSalonLife? It's taken months so far and I am following all of your advice (I think!?) as well as using the StimuNail device. Help appreciated massively! 💜
I was painting my nails a lot, a mix of gel and regular and using acetone to remove. My nails were a MESS. They were splitting vertically and peeling so bad. So I took my nails down and stopped painting them and used a lot if hand cream and cuticle oil. They started getting a lot stronger and I continued keeping them very short. They were so thin and weak but now they're much better. I don't think I'll be using acetone like I was!
Your nails are beautiful and classic. Love it! I had just decided to spend the next year pampering my finger and toe nails. Unfortunately, my nail beds on both hands are damaged from a dog attack that bit into my nails and also broke several fingers. I wanted to camouflage the damage with acrylics but I believe acrylics damaged all my nails. Plus I’ve had intermittent low thyroid issues that make me almost completely lose my pinky nails. I stopped acrylics over 6 months ago. Also dropped a heavy metal box on my big toe which cracked the toenail very far back in the quick and it’s been splintering off. So I’ve got work to do to get my nails revived. I figured as it is winter, easier to sleep with cotton gloves and socks on at night so I’ll treat all my nails to a nice oil, and the kerasal ointment you recommend before bed, slip into the cotton socks and gloves. Don’t know if I can reverse the nail damage from the dog bites and thyroid issues, but I’m going to try. Dermatologists have not been helpful in helping my nails and have said it’s just a part of my life, and here’s my bill. Your channel has been very helpful. Thank you!
Yes, great job.
Super helpful video!! Love your content!! Great tips!! 🥰
Thank you Estefania!! ❤️
New viewer. I have very thin nails so going to a salon is always a risk for me. I have been studying and practicing doing my own nails and pedicures. Happy to find your channel so informative. The brightened base is there something similar I can get on amazon or at ultra maybe I’m in the US. Thanks
I have been following your advice and let me tell you! My pedicure was the quickest I’ve done since the pnf is all healed I barely cut any cuticle bc the glass cuticle pusher did most of the job.
My hands are taking a bit bc I’m a picker but the pnf is doing so much better
I love how they look now!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Yay!!’ So so good to hear this!!! Thank you for letting me know!
Thanks for all your great videos
Hi Sacha!!! Thank you so much for your contribution to the channel! We really appreciate it. We're glad you're enjoying the content! Have a great day!!! - MSL
Yes, I think you make it look easy and make sense! I’m looking forward to learning more. Thank you for doing this! Love your videos and I’m just beginning to watch and learn!
For the past 4 weeks I have been using oil after hand washing and doing weekly oil soaks, and pushing back my cuticle every day. I have removed the cuticle about once a week using the method you describe. I am keeping them short ( I was a buffer ). I notice that the nail plate appears much longer which I have noticed on many of your client stories. I wonder if it is because the living skin is no longer sticking to my nail as much and staying back.
Hi. Thanks for sharing. Regular nail care and keeping the living skin pushed back can give the appearance of longer nail plates.
Amazing easy to do instructions, omg! I’ve been cutting a lot of cuticles
Thank you for showing us how you do it. I have the nail file and the pink cuticle eraser. I needed to see you use the pink eraser. I do great on my left hand bc I am right handed. Doing my nails with the left hand is a bit challenging to say the least. I also found out how sharp the point is also. Yikes. I love my files thanks to you. And I learned to do my right hand without as much difficulty. My cuticles are extremely dry and I admit I don't pamper them very much between manicures. I have been using the Dazzle Dry polish. It stays on so well. I'm still debating about the OPI Nature Strong or just stick with what I have. The 'regular'. I have difficult nails. They are peeling, cracking bc I don't use cuticle oil like I should. Weird as it sounds, I use Nail Tek no. 4 for the base coat, 2 OPI color coats and the fast drying top coat Seche Vite. My nails flourish. I've tried so many polishes and combinations it's pathetic. Envy chips and cracks on my nails. What ever works 🧐 sorry, I had a lot to say. Blessings ❤️
LOVE LOVE Blue Crross!! 3 decades of cutting the proximal nail fold has been worse over time. THE KEY, is using Blue Cross and getting rod of the cuticle and putting on the Cuccio cuticle oil AND the best Kerasal!!!
Yay! I’m so happy you are having great result! I love hearing these stories! Thank you for writing! 🥰
“Cuticle Police” wouldn’t that be great on your merch!! Lol 😂🧡🧡
Hm….. now that’s an idea!
Love it, thanks for the suggestion Megan! - MSL
When I was younger, I used to wear polish for a week and then give them a break for a week. Nowadays I will wear polish for 4-5 days and then take a day off to oil and moisturize the crap out of my nails.
I think that this is the best approach. Wear it for 5-6 days and a day or at least overnight off.
I have zero problems with wearing 1-2 coats of clear polish on my nails non stop and I change it weekly but everyone is different. I also think that there is a difference in wearing 1-2 coats of clear polish (perhaps more flexibility and less occlusivity) than pigmented polish. My nails are super healthy now.
Hi Ana - I wanted to point out that BlueCross, although a great cuticle remover, contains Lanolin and was the reason my cuticles became brittle. Many are sensitive to Lanolin and I usually avoid it at all costs, but somehow missed that it was an ingredient.
Well, the skin around your nails got irritated, not cuticle. Cuticle is dead skin cells and can’t be brittle or irritated. I’m so adamant correcting this because it’s important to use proper terms so we understand each other. I will make a quick video about why this is so important. I had a lightbulb moment :)
The Blue Cross should be rinsed off after a minute. Are you doing this? It’s alkaline and that can cause irritation. Not always the lanolin. But if you are allergic to lanolin then for sure, don’t use it.
@@TheSalonLife Hi - so sorry!! I meant to say that my PNF got brittle. Shame on me, as I have clearly learned months ago (very clearly) the difference, thanks to you. I am sensitive to lanolin- not really allergic- and have had that reaction to lanolin in the past. I had rinsed the Blue Cross quickly. Now that I haven’t used it, my PNF is nice and soft. Thank you again for all your great advice.
I have just found your channel.. I only watched it because my daughter is doing this kind of thing in tech.. I barely do anything with my nails.. anyway.. I found this video to be really interesting and very informative.. you explain everything extremely well..
I will definitely be subscribing and passing this on to my daughter and hopefully her friends.. best wishes from Ireland.. jxx ☘️☘️
Thank you so much Jacqueline! ❤️ I’m very happy you found this video helpful :)
I love this. I have hope for my nails to be healthy!
I am interested in a manicure class as you spoke about
Before I got into gel polishes, manicures/preparations for gel polishes or dip powders, all I did was after a shower, I would get my face cloth that I used to exfoliate my skin with my face wash cleanser , I then use the same wet/moist face cloth and remove the dead cuticle by gently rubbing it on my nails and toe nails, while it’s still soft, and moist. And put that face cloth for washing.
It kept my cuticles and skin in check and would only take a few mins …and then moisturize my whole body, hands and toes.!!!!
Not hard at all.
We don’t need to set aside time for a special manicure.
I’ve gone back to this method again and I’ve stopped doing manicure before I apply gel polish, just removal the old polish and apply the new polish.
Just subscribed and really enjoyed your video!
Thanks, I will definitely ad the warm oil treatment, I'm in my 80s, still want nice hands
Very easy!!! I love it!!!
Can you do a video on how to treat thick cracked heels, please? What products do you recommend to exfoliate, treat, and moisture the dry skin?
Hi Cynthia! There are many reasons thick, cracked heels but from a cosmetically I recommend gentle and continuous treatment
ua-cam.com/video/n94LMgBqnE8/v-deo.html
Sometimes I like gel but normally i go for gloss a nice base coat first then colour then top coat if needed
Hello. Love your videos. I have been using Rescue RX for a couple of years but not consistently. I think it’s working well. Over the past couple of years I have been trying to take better care of my nails and not wear so much polish. I absolutely love wearing polish so it’s kind of hard for me to go naked.
Just for myself, when I keep my nails polished I’m less likely to pick at my PNF. So in that way it’s helpful to me to keep them polished. I don’t know why it works, just a behavioral quirk I guess
Cuticles have a purpose, they hug the nail to keep germs out. If you push them back regularly, they are hardly noticeable
Great to see you & I've learned some new stuff. Thanks!!!
Thanks for watching Debbie! 🙋♀️
A lot of nail experts advise to file the nail in one direction. Apparently filing back and forth promotes splitting/peeling of the nail?
Hi Dianne! Apparently it’s an old wives tale that people like to repeat because it sounds like good advice.
👉 FILING NAILS IN 1 DIRECTION? by Doug Schoon ua-cam.com/video/LdpvdDJ9wJI/v-deo.html
My ADHD kicks in and I pick my "cuticle" now I know it is not the cuticle, but the fold of living skin. I am working on this. That aside, my ridges, vertical, chip at the upper tip of my short, newly filed nails. Cutting them down still finds the corrugated ridge and the nail chips there. Is a ridge filler my last resort? Thanks for your expertise. Love this channel.
Dear Lady, I love your little videos. Can you please tell me what hand cream you recommend that’s good for hands and nails.
With thanks
Sandy🥰
Thankyou for all your videos. Very educational. Love it. Just a request - could you do a pedicure video of a foot with cracked heels. Many thanks
Great suggestion!
Thank you for your video!
I was really bad with my nails in the beginning of now school. I was too excited about trying all the new products on myself. Now I know better. My nails are in the process of healing but they are really thin and soft. What does it mean when they’re soft and why or how did they become that way?
😭😭😭 I missed your live because I was sleeping off my surgery 😭😭😭
It's a nice video and had some good tips for me. I'm a big fan of taking the polish off for a couple days before the next manicure. I get it done every two weeks, so I'm getting 10-12 days out of most of my polishes and going a couple days naked and drenching in nail oil. No peelies!
I have pictures of nail polish available in Lidl in the Northeast US. Check the Patreon messages soon.
Enjoyed the video. Very informative.
Thank u so much im gald I seen your live today 💓 💗 💖
You are welcome Tammy!! ❤️
Yes, very easy. Shaping is hard, I do file while I have colored polish on.
Pre-pandemic I was somewhat obsessive about hand washing but now I’m out of control ... I wear my nails totally natural and have for quite sometime ... The constant hand washing has dried out my hands and the cuticles are tough and stiff ... Keeping my CeraVe cream ( on ) is a challenge as you can imagine ... I’ve recently been using very good bar soap which leaves my hands extremely soft but my cuticles are not as forgiving ... I know there’s not much I can do because of the constant hand washing ... Making matters worse I have a terrible mental “ coping issue “ that makes me trim daily with cuticle scissors ... (Sometimes ) trimming around the nail bed until they bleed or hurt badly ... I know this maybe too much for some of your viewers to read but we’re all human ... Everybody reacts to stress in different ways ... My habit ( kind of ) reminds me of the many reasons a pet parrot or cockatoo will intentionally pull out their feathers ... Unfortunately my toenail cuticles aren’t safe from this habit but my fingernails get worst attention ...Thank you for your video and to anyone else that can relate with my situation .
Hi Pumpkin Pie. I can relate to a degree because I have a tendency to pick at my nails if there is anything to pick at. I try to keep my hands busy and play with a ring or something.
Using the terms correctly is very important so we understand each other so let me make a little correction to what you were saying, so you and the viewers learn the proper terminology .
I talk more about the terminology here:

"The skin around your nails is tough and stiff (not cuticles). The skin around your nails is not forgiving (not cuticles).
Your coping issue makes you trim the skin around your nails daily.. sometimes you are trimming around the nail plate (not nail bed) until they bleed.
....
Unfortunately skin around your toenails isn't safe from this habit but your fingernails get worst attention."
I feel for you and your poor nails. Maybe it would help to talk to someone about how to manage your stress and how to help you with this OCD issue.
Many of us deal with anxiety and there are many resources that are very helpful. I know from experience.
I benefitted greatly from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and medication.
I hope you find something that helps you :)
All the best ❤️
@@TheSalonLife You’re so kind, thank you for not judging me ... When I was a young girl I used to watch my mother do it constantly ... Big virtual hugs from New York 🥰
I grew up with the "old school" manicures too. My mom used to cut the skin around her nails to and I did as well.
Somehow I managed to stop. I taught my mom to stop cutting her skin too. She is doing great now too!
You can do it too! 1 small step at a time!! Hugs!! 🤗
@@TheSalonLife what a beautiful compassionate and informative response. I am so glad that I recently found your channel.
Hi, I came across your video today and I love how healthy your nails are. I have had overlay put on my nails twice to help protect my natural nails, I keep them you're length. However I find that the overlay doesn't last long when I keep my hands in water...it may last 2 to 3 weeks. Do I always have to keep gloves on my hands when washing dishes?
Hi Michelle! Thank you for you comment. Honestly, it would help the wear time if you wore gloves when doing dishes.
Have a great day! - MSL
What’s your approach and thoughts around hair care and skincare? Is it similar to nails. To be gentle and not do too much? What are your routines for skincare and hair care?
Hi Ashley. The best source on skincare and routines would be Dr.Dray here on UA-cam. For haircare, we aren't too sure who would be the best person to talk to on that subject.
Have a great Friday! - MSL
Omg! Beautiful nails!
I'm so jealous of your long/wide nail bed/plate. Even your short nails look long because of that. My nail beds are so tiny, it's like having kids nails lol
I have the same issue.
I need recommendations for good cuticle oil please. New to your channel. Learning so much from your videos. Thank you!
Great video. Have really changed the way I manicure my nails through watching your videos. Can I please ask the name of the brightener you used alongside the Dior one. Thanks
Hello Gill! It's from Cien, very difficult to find.
@@TheSalonLife thank you . I will search around.
Hi, love this video. A friend purchased a bottle of pure tea tree oil that comes in a bottle much like nail polish. I don't have fungus, but she said to make the nails strong and cuticle soft...another person said it pulls the nail from the nail bed and falls off. I'm afraid to use it, so not sure if I should or not.
Hi Mel, Tea Trea is not a good idea. Pure essential oils are very different than carrier, non fragrant oils. Pure Tea Trea is very drying.
@@TheSalonLife thank you, I was confused and I felt you were the right person to ask. Thanks so much. Ill check out your Amazon page and see what you suggest. I was a nail biter and have recently been inspired to take care of my nails better, so I found your YT channel. Very enlightening and inspiring. I just need a good moisterizer for the skin around my nails, I've been cutting them for years because that's what they did at the salon...for years...the skin needs help and I was hoping I could just moisturize before I get into polish etc. Healthy nails is my first priority.
Hey this may be a stupid request but can you do a video or suggest a video that shows the proper way to polishes nails. Thank you.
Hi Lizzy! Not a stupid idea whatsoever! I think it’s a great idea and I think I should finally record a video on how to polish your own nails.
Bardzo ciekawe!
My mother taught me to push my cuticles back after having a shower or bath whilst the skin is warm
- with a towel
Thanks!
Thank you so much Barbara for the contribution! We greatly appreciate it!!!! - MSL
Now I know, why my nails were "addicted" to really harsh manicures, because everytime I was for a manicure, they cut the proximal nailfold, so the skin literally grew back in one week and every manicure my skin grew back faster and thicker and they kept removing it every time 😖 I thought they knew what they are doing and now I am left with really bad skin and I literally do everything for my nails daily, I moisturize them many times a day with creams, oils and serums, but it seems like the thick skin can't hold any moisture and I don't know what to do, to help my skin to recover from these bad manicures!
Do you have any tips, how I can help my nails?
Hi Jana Schn, for how long are you treating your nail folds the way you describe above (with oils etc.)? Maybe they just need time and you just have to be patient? Look at "Anna's Nail Advice", she has a whole playlist. There you will find everything you need to know. Have nice day!
Hi Jayna! It just takes time and care. This didn’t happen overnight so it won’t get better very fast. Skin heals. Think about scrapes, cuts and scabs. They eventually get better.
How long have you been caring for your skin and how long have the skin been cut for?
What creams exactly are you using?
Can you send me a picture?
Hi there! Thank you for your comment! I missed the original question :). Thank you for responding to it. I also ask how long Jayna has been caring for the nails vs how long the skin has been cut. It will get better :)
@@TheSalonLife Thank you for responding! 😊
My skin was cut like this for maybe 1½ - 2 years and since February I use creams with Urea and Panthenol like Mixa Cica Repair and natural oils. When I moisturize my nails and cuticles they just look okay for maybe 20min and then they are really dry again! Every couple days I do Oil baths with olive oil and coconut oil, because I feel like these oils are the best for my skin, after I tried many other oils...
I have a question. I noticed tonight that it looks like I have chipped clear polish on my nails. I keep thinking I need to use more remover, but I still see it. I'm wondering what I'm seeing because it can't be polish since I've used remover. I'd send a picture but I'm really not sure that you'd be able to see it. I only noticed it tonight as I was following your methods for a manicure. Have you ever seen anything like what I'm describing? I love your videos and I'm so happy I found you. Also, I bought Blue Cross today, but it looks thicker than yours, almost like a cream. Not sure if I bought what you use.
It’s kind of difficult to imagine what you are describing. Did you get the Blue Cross from my link?
