- Randin Olson of Lock Jaw Guide Service shows us how to change the oil in a 50hp Mercury Outboard. This is a fairly universal process for all Mercury 4 stroke outboards. The model in this video is a 2014.

The way you cut the water bottle funnel is genius. I feel like a fool having just cut the bottom off all these years and spilling it everywhere
If you will turn the motor all the way to left, then tilt the motor upwards, you won’t get any oil on the motor.
Try turning the channel lock pliers the right way
I was just thinking this and came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed lol
It worked, didnt it? I use them every day and sometimes they dont fit the correct way
Great tutorial
Nice video thanks, where do you buy the oil change kit.?
Thank you bro! 🇭🇷❤️🇺🇸
Can you use an oil extraction pump on these Outboard?
good question, sorry but we will have to get back to you on that one.
Where did you get that yellow drip tray for the oil filter
Came in the kit
One thing I always did on my vehicles was to fill the filter a little over half full with oil before installing. Is this not necessary since the engine is vertical?
It’s never necessary actually
Weight of oil required is on a sticker on top of the motor. 3 LITERS will fill it but 3 QUARTS will not fill all the way up(as this video states) but will leave you .17qts short. EVERYONE skirts this issue- or is it not an issue.
Hello is this the same procedure for a 50hp Evinrude
Is it a bad idea to top off my oil with 10w-30 is its 25w-40 or vise versa?
not sure, i'd guess motor oil is motor, just keep the engine clean, but others might know better
It's better than no oil or low oil!!
Make sure either or both are synthetic don't mix the two
You didn't show the oil or filter that was used...brand, type, weight, etc etc. Would have been a perfect video other than that. So what did you use?

it comes with maintenance kit
You did not say how much to fill the oil capacity
turn the multi grips around the correct way to undo filter dude
So only one quart of oil that’s all it needs?
3 quarts with the filter change. At least for the 40hp. Check your dipstick
