A little about me:
I am James McBurnett. I live in the great state of Texas. Probably not where you would think, but I am located in the panhandle region. I moved here from Alabama and work as a Chemical Engineer in the area. After being here for a few years, I decided to get back to my roots as a fisherman. It is quite challenging in my area to find a body of water to fish. The closest lake to me is about 40 miles away.
After a couple more years, I realized how much I love fishing and wanted to share it with the world. Clearwater fishing was born. I wanted to teach people all about fishing. This includes rods, reels, fishing line, bait, lures, largemouth bass, crappie, walleye, catfish, bluegill, boats, boat trailers, outboards, and anything else related to fishing.
I also wanted to share my fishing experiences as well. To be entertaining, knowledgeable, comical, and FUN. This channel was created out of the love of the sport of fishing, and I plan to keep making content that represents that. Thank you for watching this video and reading a bit about me. Give me a shout out in the comments below and let me know you read this. Now get out there and go catch you some fish.
Equipment I use:

Fantastic video. Really helped
So my manual said the lube should have came out the front hole first. But it came out the back hole first. I had the motor perfectly vertical. I have a 93 Mercury 60 horse. I put the plug in after I came out the back hole then pumped until it came out the front hole. Then I took the back one out and pump some more until it came out again which was right away.
Mine always comes our the back hole first.
If your boat has an hour meter, right that on the oil filter also.
Great idea. I installed vessel view mobile, and I should be doing that.
Your getting air in it because your engine should be down and level not on an angle. The two holes on top should have the oil come out at the same time so you know it’s level and filled.
I thought it was pretty level, but I could have been off. I did pump air in it because the bottle ran out. I will keep the level in mind next time. Thank you!
THANKS!
You're welcome!
Thanks
No problem
I don't understand, that third screw is the "Fill" - why not put the drain plug in, fill from there and let any bubble come out the vent hole?
The screw label fill is for fill level. Also if you fill from the top it takes forever for the bubbles to come out because of how thick gear lube is.
I’m looking to buy some performance parts for the motor , what is a good website you would recommend?
Do you have a video on how to change the water pump ?
Not yet. Sorry man.
@@clearwaterfishing all good man. I’ve never changed mine and I was going to do a full service on it in the next few weeks .
Yes please do along with part number of impeller. Thanks
How tight do the plugs have to be, I just did mine yesterday and I over tightened one of the plugs. Now it just keeps spinning I home just replacing to plug fixes the issue.
Easy enough that an idiot like me could follow. Thank you
Isn't the motor supposed to be level?
Depends. If you only have one vent at the top then yes. If you have 2 it doesn't matter if it is off a bit.
shouldn't the motor be straight up and down for the correct gear oil level
Just wondering why you wouldn't get the motor level, put the drain plug in and fill from one of the top holes till oil comes out the other?
Bubbles, if you fill from the top you can mix bubbles in or have air pockets.
You didn’t tell us what type or weight of oil you stripped the flathead and buggered it up why isn’t the engine level and why don’t you fill it from the top?
Is it better to put the outdrive all the way down? or is there a reason its at a slight angle?
The plug is toward the front of the motor so you will get more oil out. It also makes the job cleaner.
@@clearwaterfishing Thanks!
Why don't you fill from the top at the plug you said was a fill
That is the fill level indicator. You don’t want to fill from there because you can get air trapped in there and have a low level thinking it is full.
@@clearwaterfishing thank you
What happens if a lot spills out when you put the last screw back in?
I think you either have a leaking vent plug or pressured up the foot with the pump.
Maintenance blah! Got do it though.
Yeah I know!

@@jimneal5789 Thanks!
Hey, thanks for the awesome video, quick question, What kind of propeller are you running on the boat? I have a 3 blade and thinking about a 4 blade.
14p spitfire
Are you using SAE 90 Gear lube?
I am! What do you use?
@@clearwaterfishing actually I was asking because I wanted to know what to use. I’ve only had mine a little over a year now and want to change the gear lube. I’ve changed the motor oil, but I just wanted to make sure that I am going to be using the right lube.
@@bcroft68bc I got ya man. I used 90 SAE from Quicksilver.
