I'm a week out from surgery and though physically I've been feeling great, mentally the liquid diet has been a challenge at times. So hearing about the non-scale victories ahead keeps me focused. Less sweating, more active social life, fitting in plane and theatre seats, shopping for clothes in stores instead of online. These are all things I look forward to!
These are some of the best things after surgery and they make all the discomfort worth it. I am almost a year post sleeve and am still surprised at how much my body is changing even though the weight loss is happening slower now than the initial weight loss. There are so many things I had forgotten that I knew how to do now that my body can do them again, and I count each as a win!
I hate how differently I'm treated. I'm treated with more respect, and people are nicer to me now... why did my weight before keep you from being decent to me?
I totally noticed that too and I haven’t had the surgery yet but I got really sick a couple of years ago and lost A LOT weight but have gained it all back and I definitely noticed a difference in how people treated me versus how they treat me now
I just celebrated my two years anniversary since my gastric sleeve surgery and I wanted anyone who is out there thinking about this surgery with Dr. A. not to hesitate. Everything he mentioned in this video has been my guide to success following his instructions two years ago. I have had no complication, my confidence is over the top, I eat normal foods but keeps it to small portions and drink my water and exercise . I’m not a younger person but I feel like my life began two years ago. I just graduated and became a nurse after struggling for twenty years to achieve that goal. Weight loss surgery to me is not just having a thin beautiful body it’s living a fulfilling lifestyle. Thanks Dr.A.

Thank you for the video. I was laughing a bit throughout it because it's true. February 19th was my fifth anniversary and I DO NOT REGRET IT one bit. I went from 400lbs and I've been maintaining at around 220-230 lbs since then. I feel totally awesome👍🏼
This surgery is NOT easy way out, hardest thing I've done....waking up everyday and making good food choices. this surgery was the best decision I ever made for myself. My chronic bowel condition is gone due to my new healthy food & water choices. I have a long way to go still probably another 50 lbs but I already feel SO much better and health improving daily.
Mental preparation helped me so much. I knew I would never drink for an hour after eating, ever again. Lots of liquids. Sharing meals. Eating slow. Be strategic on medication.
I am 10+ years post sleeve. I still work hard to keep the weight off. I have genetic issues for my weight struggles. My sleeve has saved me. You have to change your mindset and stick with eating right and exercising .

Its been 13 days since my sleeve surgery. This is crazy when i have these mild hunger pangs when making my children's meals, but working out and seeing the scale and my knees not hurting when i get up keep me motivated. I do have concerns about my liquid intake and cant find an agreeable protein powder. Keep me in your prayers.

I am preparing for gastric sleeve surgery. After listening to you I am going to go through with the surgery. I am 65. I am type 1 diabetic. I have gastroparesis, many more. My doctors are very happy with my decision. You are amazing at how you let us know the good from the bad. You have been the reason I am going through with this procedure. Hope I hear from you. God Bless you.
I had my sleeve surgery on Aug 26th 2024 and it has been a great experience. Only issue is some pain around the incision where the stomach was pulled out. No other pain and went home the next day after surgery. I’ve had other surgeries in the past 2 back, ankle and part of colon removed and the sleeve surgery was the easiest for me. My heaviest weight (6 foot male 51 years old) was 305. At start of program Dec 2023 I was at 286. Today at 222lbs. Haven’t been that low in I don’t even remember.
This is a great video with such important and useful information that help people who have had the surgery and those whom are preparing or going to have the surgery soon providing knowledge and understanding for their journey to weight loss. I wish you were here in South Florida to meet you in person and hopefully one day you will be here giving a seminar. Thank you, Dr. Alvarez!
Thank you for this information. I have contemplated over 10 yrs and wanted to wait until my youngest turned 18 in case of complications. I don’t drink soda. I have always felt like getting surgery was being a cheat (not for others) but myself. However, I am so ready for it now after much research and I do believe it will change my life for the better. I just turned 48, and probably should’ve gotten it done sooner. I look forward to being more active!
0:41 - I lost 110 lbs with no skin removal and it all looks fine - subjective. 1:52 - I had liver, kidney, and heart issues. And now, I don't. 2:35 - Mildly carbonated beverages are fine in moderation. I drink a Celsius everyday, SLOWLY. 3:13 - I run 4-6 miles every other day - burns 900 calories. This is so important! 4:05 - Yes and no. Shaky marriages will suffer. Talk about it and stay close that first year. Better yet, see a psychologist or therapist. 5:52 - This is so trippy! I was an XXL, now a medium. But dang, I get cold.... all the time! 8:34 - Absolutely true! Not a bad thing, at all. I get three meals out of restaurant meals. 9:10 - MAY, if you don't have enough fiber and liquids... or just for no reason at all.
I had this gastric sleeve surgery at the end of January and I feel great and have no regrets. But I know this is still a long process and I look forward to the changes to come in my health and life.
Great video. I needed this. I was feeling like a failure because I’m 8mon post op and I went from 260 to 207. I feel like I should be out of the 200s by now. I’m glad he spoke about the non scale related victories. I love those since the scale makes me sad lol
Please try to be gentle with yourself. The main thing is your health, and losing TOO quickly is not healthy. Give yourself credit for all that you HAVE lost and don't compare your loss to others. Concentrate on getting healthy and strong. You're doing great. 👍
I'm 5 months out of gastric sleeve surgery and lost 56lb so far. My husband is happy for me as I can do more things and my favourite non scale victory was being able to walk upstairs without getting short of breath. Another one is getting a smaller work uniform. The best tool I have had done. Tried every diet going and didn't work for long. I eat the toddler ready meals (in the uk) and just add salt and pepper, they are easy to take to work or struggle to cook. I wish I could have done it earlier in life, it has changed my life so far for the good 😁
I've been going through reviews, its so inspiring to be a new you,I just wanted to know the cost of doing gastric sleeve, and how long does the procedure takes ,and how
Don't. It's too acidic on your smaller stomach and may mess things up. If you do have some please dilute it fully so you don't mess up your stomach lining.
I’m a little bit confused. On a previous video you said you could drink a carbonated beverage cautiously when you’re 8-12 months PO. This video, you say absolutely no carbonation. Which is it?
I had surgery on sat and i didnt think i would be in soo much pain. Internally i am in loads of pain. No one told me i would feel like this. I dont know why i was expecting it to be miraculous and painless. Im not able to have my full amount of protein shakes or liquids. But it is still early days for me.
It’ll pass by second week.. get up n move !!!! It releases all the gas in your stomach and you will feel so much better. Liquid diet is a b-Itch ..sugar free popsicles and jello are gonna be ur best friend
Doctor i just started going to nutritionists because i want to do the surgery i am 194 pounds i wabth to loose 60 pounds how do you doit to stay at 134 and not loose more weight i am afraid that i might loose more weight than i really wanth ro
Definitely just a tool. I am 1 year and 2 months out. I lost a total of 60 pounds in the first 4 months after surgery. I have re-gained 17 pounds in the last 8 months. I can eat bigger portions and have gone back to my old poor eating habits due to stress. 😭 Need help to get back on track, but find it hard to do!!
This is what kept me from getting the surgery at all....the regain. I know I'll spiral. I've only had 3 periods of significant weightloss and I'm about 1 year post op, I'm happier now but I feel I should have lost more only 70lbs lost, my goal was 80lbs.
Does your doctor have a dietitian or a support group you can turn to for help? You can get back on track - take it one day, or even one food choice, at a time until you resume the healthier habits again. Good luck!!

The surgery is definitely a tool. The other part they don’t talk about in detail is the mental health and work you have to do. I suggest using a support group and therapist. I stuck with my therapist for this reason. Get your mindset right and discipline yourself by speak positively about yourself accomplishments. You conquered the surgery, even weight loss. Now conquer your next fear. ❤
I'm a week out from surgery and though physically I've been feeling great, mentally the liquid diet has been a challenge at times. So hearing about the non-scale victories ahead keeps me focused. HELL YEAH 🎉 CONGRATS
😅 you not laughing Doc...... I enjoyed it it's fun watching you talk about the sizes or food portions 😅
Thank you!❤
What about 4 months after the surgery drinking apple cider Vinegar
Is that a good thing or a bad thing to do will it help me
Don't. It's too acidic on your smaller stomach and may mess things up. If you do have some please dilute it fully so you don't mess up your stomach lining.
How long after surgery can I go back to the gym
Hello!
4 Weeks after your weight loss surgery
My side has been killing me since the surgery. I don’t regret it, but I am hurting three weeks out
Contact your doctor's office. 😉
Hi Dr. Alvarez! I am currently on budesonide nebulizer for asthma. Am I not qualified for gastric sleeve?
I’m a little bit confused. On a previous video you said you could drink a carbonated beverage cautiously when you’re 8-12 months PO. This video, you say absolutely no carbonation. Which is it?
Be cautious with carbonated beverages.
I use to get more attention at the strip club b4 surgery I don't look like a trick anymore 🎉😂
lmao
🤣😅
Great transformation 😊
Doc whats you view on adding mct tsp to morning coffee ☕ ive lost all myweight thanks
Absolutely All of This! 🥰👍🏾💯
How are u doung doing today??
@@siffatchhabra9376 i am now 6 weeks post op and i am completely pain free thank god. I've lost a total of 66 lbs so far
Doctor i just started going to nutritionists because i want to do the surgery i am 194 pounds i wabth to loose 60 pounds how do you doit to stay at 134 and not loose more weight i am afraid that i might loose more weight than i really wanth ro
Than this isn’t for you! Cut carbs and sugar and you will drop the weight naturally
I have POTS. Is this surgery safe for those of us with this condition? How do you drink enough with a small stomach?
