Graduated high school in 83 in southern Cal and went to college just outside of San Francisco when the city was cool and happening. Listening to this song brings back super dense memories of long ago girl friends, the loss of friends, having fun in the city, seeing bands live and all the wonderful things of the 80s. So much has changed and I see the time in my face but I know we will all be ok. Many dear blessings everyone..

30 years old and still sounds fresh. I miss the Jam - Rickenbackers, Vox amps and Premier drums are a potent combination. But I respect Paul's decision to try new things. We'll always have All Mod Cons, Setting Sons and the rest to listen to.
Some of them Jam songs are incredibly good and still so. Ghost, Just who is the Five o'clock Hero, could go on and on. Then there is the classic singles.
Weller had angst in all of his Jam songs,which put me on to him..Never thought I would mellow to the Style Council but I did..because of his songwriting.. Totally Brilliant!!!
Such a perfect 1st single from The Style Council. It was a perfect switch from The Jam to TSC as it has the mod dancing and then they gradually got funky and became more of a new band. A beautiful reincarnation indeed.

Yeah it was a strange move but he had evolved past the Jam I suppose and needed to express where he found his sweet spot at that time. I loved everything that he produced, not one dud track from ALL his endeavours. Genius is correct!
I hated The Jam but absolutely loved The Style Council (and hated myself for liking them if you know what I mean) but when I started re-listening to some old Jam record while TSC were still going I grew to like them.

They caught the train up from Melbourne because Weller hates flying. A bunch of us met the train at Central. Got his autograph but he was quite short with us all, it was a long train trip I guess.

Love this band, one of my favs from the 80's. The band was mostly unknown in the USA. I did my part however. In 1986 i was working at a freaking Burger King and told a coworker who liked some of the bands I did to go buy My Ever Changing Moods (the us title of their album) and she loved it and told 3 of her drama club friends to go buy it too, w hich they did and also loved it. I did my part, I also had 2 of their live concerts on VHS that were amazing but have never been released on DVD

This was a breath of fresh air in '83, just a few short months after the farewell tour of The Jam. I only bought a handful of singles and never got into TSC in a big way, but this first single still really does it for me.
So FREE AND SO WILD ....... Nothing but respect for being true to yourself .... Screw the dam skeptics Fuk Em all ... Rose above it all yeah ! No regrets . So many have done the same only the sensible fans can see you made all the Right choices. The music has stood the test of time ! 2020 and beyond ! I hope young people learn to love this music too . I'll be sure to share it .
Grew up with pictures of Weller all round the house and a brother named Paul thanks to my mum who loves him to this day, looking back his songs were the soundtrack to my childhood especially The Jam and his solo music but TSC were amazing also
