i spent a couple of hours talking to Paul Weller in the early 90's when i lived in Denver.....he's one of the few superstars globally that could walk around virtually anywhere in America and be recognized by very few people......glad i got to spend some time with him.
And that would be their loss. I was surprised to hear Above the Clouds in a grocery store one day and almost started dancing in the aisle. That's great you got to talk with him.

Of course we knew of the song and their other UK hits, but it was mainly played in dance clubs. And now, thanks to archives & UA-cam, it's fascinating to learn details of what led up to Style Council, details of the band members lives, and where they are at today.

This song is a masterpiece. I´m a guy from Vienna, was 20 and at the military then. Unbelievable, how the British bands delivered during the 80ies. So independent, talented, creative and cool. Real musicians, real bands, real enthusiasm. No computers, no fucking effects, no people as part of the show - and nobody knows, what´s their role and why they are here. If I think of 80ies music, more than 50% of the songs I remember, are from bands like Style Council.Paul Weller is a genius and was a great influencer of British music during these times.
Mass unemployment in Britain in the early 1980s lead to people forming bands to make money. Hence the Second British Invasion was born. All part of Thatcher's plan. Great music, though!
British musicians were definitely using computers and effects for music production, even in the 1980s. Don't blame the technology for the blandness of modern music when the issue is a lack of creativity and an industry that chooses to churn out derivative, overproduced garbage rather than take risks.
Also 20 in 84 & in the military in Australia, this song and so many others like it were transformative an optimistic time to be alive, I feel for the young kids of today indoctrinated to be fearful, pessimistic, & so angry, where are the songs that give hope.... nothing...

This was one of my favorite songs when it came out, just because it was so infectious but listening now as an adult with more knowledge on UK music history, it’s so evident how much of a Northern Soul tribute this was. Even down to Weller’s dance moves. Pure Wigan.
This is the best song to test your stereo system to. Full range of instruments, frequencies and vocals. I used to carry the vinyl with me when buying systems worth thousands of dollars.
i thought Weller's career would probably teeter out after the Jam, how wrong was i. The style Council was, has been and always will be one of my favourite bands.
I just left Japan, for Nebraska (in the Air Force)...I worked in a secured facility, they would allow cassette tapes in, to play music...but never let them out again. So, for a period of 2 years...this was usually playing very loudly while I did mundane midnight shift work.
Paul Weller is just such an incredible artist he is up there with the likes of well ...the best of the best. Big part of not only the UK but the world! The Mod Father rock and soul.
As a young music maker This song should be a learning curve!!!!!!! Can you hear how they do it with the vocals and everything! The tempo the skill the knowledge these guys had; So much to learn so little time!
Love the fact that he had the balls to write and put out music that genuinely challenged the establishment. Love the Miners poster in the background. Respect to the working men and women.

Well we're gonna shout to the top
We're gonna shout to the top
We're gonna shout to the top
Hey, we're gonna shout to the top
You see it's a frightening thing when it dawns upon you
That I know as much as the day I was born
And though I wasn't asked, I might as well stay
And promise myself each and every day
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
So when you're knocked on your back and your life's a flop
And when you're down on the bottom there's nothing else
But to shout to the top (shout)
Well, we're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
And when you're knocked on your back and your life's a flop
And when you're down on the bottom there's nothing else
But to shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
Hey, yeah, shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
We're gonna shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
Shout to the top (shout)
2023 and I am here to remember how this song was important to me when I was young.
If you ever need a positive energy track before leaving your home in the morning this is the song to go out to the world with.
この曲聴くと『とくダネ!』のオープニングを思い出しました。
22年間司会されていた小倉さんのご冥福を心よりお祈り申し上げます。
2021 Covid late night UA-cam binge...love this track..this band really was kool..Paul Weller one of the all time greatest songwriters...under-rated for sure...Great Man
Yes your right there kid great times with that song paddy lreland
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
I'm listening!..hear something new each time...
This was one of my favorite songs when it came out, just because it was so infectious but listening now as an adult with more knowledge on UK music history, it’s so evident how much of a Northern Soul tribute this was. Even down to Weller’s dance moves. Pure Wigan.
This tune still kicks ass after more than three decades, just like Weller
Alex O'Dowd right
Alex O'dowd,Paul Weller died in 1982
Alex O'dowd,Your an idiot Weller died the day he split The Jam up!
I agree. really hates being called the MOD father. the style council and The jam were two of the best bands of the 1970s/1980s
Just listening before my Competition heats The best ever Mahalo !!!
A timeless song, whose energy captures the human spirit; it is a gutsy soul singing and we can all relate to that courageous energetic spark.
Interesante lo que narras, siempre he pensado en esa unión entre el músico y su oyente, hay mucha conexión espiritual o lo que sea.
All time favorite!🎶
Started with THE JAM!
Paul Weller is such a great musician!⚓️
Thanx
いつまでも色褪せないポールウェラー これこそ心のBIBLE👍
This is the best song to test your stereo system to. Full range of instruments, frequencies and vocals. I used to carry the vinyl with me when buying systems worth thousands of dollars.
Was that trading your food stamps?🤔😂
This is a F A N T A S T I C song. I love it🥰
Legend or what playing the Piano!!!!!! FABULOUS FABULOUS stuff or what!!!!
i thought Weller's career would probably teeter out after the Jam, how wrong was i. The style Council was, has been and always will be one of my favourite bands.
If you’re a guitarist with songwriting skills the likes of weller has you’ll never go hungry lol.
Mine too!
Fade out, oh man!
I just don't think that talented brilliance won't, can't, will never, ever, simply go out "like rhat"...
😎🙏😀
??.?.??..?.
That jacket, Weller's oh-so-cool slide/80s dancing...a fantastic track from a fantastic band!
The Long Hot Summerx - The Story of The Style Council 😍
In Japan, it is the theme song of the morning TV show and is a famous song that many people know. and One of my favorite songs.
Iligato

No one doesn't know about this
I just left Japan, for Nebraska (in the Air Force)...I worked in a secured facility, they would allow cassette tapes in, to play music...but never let them out again. So, for a period of 2 years...this was usually playing very loudly while I did mundane midnight shift work.
Also famous as commercial of SUBARU.
Legacy? or Impreza??
Mick Talbot is one of my favorite keyboardists, and The Style Council's one of my favorite groups.
大好きだった❤️懐かしい😌
Asu mare..from.PERU❤🇵🇪..Yo escuchaba esta cancion..Ahora tengo 49.y no se me da unas energiassssss..!!SHOUT TO THE TOOOOOOp..Be happy bros..🤟
Paul Weller is just such an incredible artist he is up there with the likes of well ...the best of the best. Big part of not only the UK but the world! The Mod Father rock and soul.
As a young music maker
This song should be a learning curve!!!!!!!
Can you hear how they do it with the vocals and everything!
The tempo the skill the knowledge these guys had;
So much to learn so little time!
I was lucky enough to see Mr Weller perform this live this summer at The Lytham Festival- absolutely brilliant and something I’ll cherish forever
I love this song. Love this band. Erika Badu does a great recording of this which is warm and gorgeous.
Love the fact that he had the balls to write and put out music that genuinely challenged the establishment. Love the Miners poster in the background. Respect to the working men and women.
up the working class. All economic growth is created and grown through the working class !!
Straight up chignon Paul Weller
Sold out though in later life me thinks 🤔
Don't think he sold out mate, just too old for the fight. Kids, ex wives and all that. That crap takes the fight out of the best of us!
@@yviy1 I don't see he sold out. Get back to me if he accepts a knighthood, but I think he is still true to his basic values.
pure class, Weller and DeeCee looking fabulous, proper tune
These guys are totally underrated. Weller is a musical genius he truly is. He is an amazing artist..
