How I miss the 80"s, being a teen, waiting for Friday afternoon to catch up on all the latest releases. 1983 I was 12 yrs old, I'm 53 this year. Where has time gone...
It truly was a long hot Summer in ‘83 and such a memorable time of my life. Falling deeply in love with my first ever girlfriend (Clare) and I still hold those happy memories in my heart till this day. My first job, earning money and the whole world was your oyster. The ones that you love were still alive and healthy. 40 years later since the release of this song and it still affects me today the same way that it did then. It takes a genius to compose such a powerful and beautiful song that transports you straight to a happier point in place and time.

The Style Council are one of THE most important bands to ever emerge and it's pathetic how fans of The Jam claim that The Style Council are rubbish. They were are are utter CLASS x I still remember when this piece of funk summer synth soul was released in 1983 and I adored it and always will xx
Totally agreed. I think the backlash was symptomatic of the snobbish attitude the predominantly white musical press had towards soul and pop music at the time (i.e. basically anything that wasn't a rock song played by a bunch of white guys on guitar). But like you say, this song and the band are class.
If like me you lived and loved the music from this period you will be aware there are more iconic Style council songs than those of the Jam and great song writers have to move on or stagnate. I notice there is a new Style council cd released as opposed to the Jam wonder why that is ???
That's because The Jam had a fan base of teenage boys. Of course they weren't happy Paul decided The Jam were in a artistic dead end and split the band. The more open minded embraced The Style Council. The last few singles by The Jam were not too different to the first few singles by Paul's new group.
@@collapsiblechair9112 True ... I guess because I've always been into STYLE, CLASS and SOUL that I loved and love The Style Council. The Jam were more of a lad's band. And The Style Council were simply SOPHISTICATION +

Such an evocative song of its time and generation. Almost brings a tear to my eye listening to it and remembering the long hot summer of 83 with youth on my side. ❤❤
Timeless,.. recently herd this while shopping in a well known D.iY shop,… and yes I did it,….I did the river bank dance,…. Next to the pond,… misses said no matter what you do,…. You’ll be my fool….,..! Went home and played this and others from this time sade aswell,.. had a lovely time… style can’t be bought
Just that first 3 seconds of music takes me back to being 16 again. Happy summers days Cambridge University, bridge of sighs. Beatiful location for a beautiful song. I love the beat on this song.
I have followed Paul weller since I was a little hungry school girl let's just say a long time he is the most coolest guy the style council are the sound of my life first heartbreak my wedding song and yes my funeral will sound class cause back in the day song's set a scene.....Thank you Mr weller.
+Nigel McDonald It was my wedding song thank you so much for sharing it is such a beautiful song. And I am sorry for your loss......The boy who cried wolf is a very hard song for me, in fact I only just have been able to listen to it.
There was a time I couldn't listen to Pauls music -- just too many sad, confused, lonely memories and lonely parties as it were. Hearing it in the summer of '16 (and frankly never thought I'd be saying 'summer of 16') it sounds as fresh as it did 31 years ago -- UK music came slowly to rural US back then. I heard party chambers a few weeks ago (micks version) and the memories burst forth like a chasm. I've struggled to describe Paul throughout my life. Probably Drew Barrymore describing childhood in Never Been Kissed does it best, "In your memories, you will preserve him as simply the most romantic man you ever knew in your life."
Mrbrbusby .busby I think you are spot on and have described all the emotions Paul & mick pored into The style council....When Paul was in the jam his message was up front about what we as English kid's could relate to. Then the two geniuses met...And became part of my life my happy, sad, Beautiful time's and I am forever grateful because like you said 'summer of 16' fresh.

There were so many perfectly apt hits during that genuinely long hot summer of 1983 of which this was one of the finest by far - possibly the Style Council's greatest moment I think. Even though their output has been very much hit and miss - some genius songs and some dire ones. Other brilliant pop hits of that unforgettable 1983 summer which really bring back waves of longing nostalgia for those of us who were teenagers during that year came from acts as diverse as New Order (Blue Monday), The Lotus Eaters (The First Picture Of You), Freeez (IOU), JoBoxers (Just Got Lucky), Roman Holliday (Don't Try To Stop It), Tracie (GIve It Some Emotion), Bananarama (Cruel Summer), Gary Byrd & The GB Experience (The Crown), KC & The Sunshine Band (Give It Up), Wham! (Bad Boys and Club Tropicana), Yazoo (Nobody's Diary), Blancmange (Blind Vision), Altered Images (Bring Me Closer and Love To Stay), Paul Young (Wherever I Lay My Hat), Spandau Ballet (Gold), Depeche Mode (Everything Counts), The The (Perfect) ...... it was a wonderful pop soundtrack back when we were younger!! For those who were kids into the pop charts of the day, this was also a time also soundtracked by listening to Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 1 and the infamous Radio 1 Roadshows - such happy times. Things started to change once some of us became students as we then started to discover different genres of music other than just the commercial UK chart stuff - thanks to people like John Peel and Janice Long and Andy Kershaw.
I actually got introduced to this song yesterday by the husband of my sister’s friend at a family function, this song is amazing! But thanks to your comment, i just watched one of the best interviews ever!! Tyler and Narduwar are legendary and hilarious together!!

I was a bit too young for bands like Wham! & The Style Council in the 80s when they came out, but wow, they sure are great. Best era for music is definitely 60s-90s. Class tune this is 👌
I have been looking for this song for years. I was watching Chance B's Soul Story and saw the guy's face and said that's them. This video was in rotation on MTV in 1984. I never knew who made it, nor the title. I just remembered the bass line, and "no matter what I do". When I searched that a zillion things came up, but not the video.
This song is 40 years old. Unreal.

I once had long hot summer in 84 , funny times , and memories never fade!
Such an evocative song of its time and generation. Almost brings a tear to my eye listening to it and remembering the long hot summer of 83 with youth on my side. ❤❤

This is a beautiful song. Can't believe it's 40 years ago when it was released. I loved Paul in The Jam.

Cambridge University, bridge of sighs. Beatiful location for a beautiful song.
I love the beat on this song.
Great song....will never get old like most of their songs
Even as a 20 year old this is one of my all time favourites
Great song that brings back sooooo many great memories. Wish I could go back in time to those innocent, care free moments......thx Paul. Xx
I have followed Paul weller since I was a little hungry school girl let's just say a long time he is the most coolest guy the style council are the sound of my life first heartbreak my wedding song and yes my funeral will sound class cause back in the day song's set a scene.....Thank you Mr weller.
I had "You're the best thing "played at my girlfriends funeral.
Then the two geniuses met...And became part of my life my happy, sad, Beautiful time's and I am forever grateful because like you said 'summer of 16' fresh.
are you still a hungry girl lol
The 80's were the happiest in my life, family, friends, loves, job, I miss that time.
Absolutely love this , wish I could enter a timeslip and go back to the 80s.
One of the best love songs ever!
Always reminds me of the first summer I spent with the woman I'm still married to almost 38 years later 😍

Your very lucky
Who’s listening this masterpiece masterclasss in 2022 ?? 🥰🥰🥰
Aha only poped out 4a pint n a spliff
Blimey, what memories has this brought back. Carefree times and loving someone so much.
This jam's a *whole, '80s, summertime MOOD!!* 😎😎😎😎
I actually got introduced to this song yesterday by the husband of my sister’s friend at a family function, this song is amazing! But thanks to your comment, i just watched one of the best interviews ever!! Tyler and Narduwar are legendary and hilarious together!!
Paul weller is a genius he needed to go solo although it shattered me when the jam split he is up there with THE very best ... arise Sir Paul Weller ... national treasure..icon
I would hope that Paul would turn down such a pointless 'honour' if it was offered.
Listen to this and you ll live your own 80s summertime!just like all of us old 80s lads did then, when we were growing up,listening to real MUSIC
I was a bit too young for bands like Wham! & The Style Council in the 80s when they came out, but wow, they sure are great. Best era for music is definitely 60s-90s. Class tune this is 👌
Mr. Paul Weller the best singer of all times❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We are listening him in Eastern Europe, FYROM 🇲🇰
Who else thinks this is a banger of a summer song in 2022....????
If you agree you kbow timeless tunes and are legends.. 👍👌☀️🇬🇧👏
I saw this video on MTV in 1996 . I had a crush on Paul Weller when I saw him in this video in 1996. I was a teenager back then. Born in 1980.
Love this tune so much, definitely reminds me of summers back in the eighties 👍
I have been looking for this song for years. I was watching Chance B's Soul Story and saw the guy's face and said that's them. This video was in rotation on MTV in 1984. I never knew who made it, nor the title. I just remembered the bass line, and "no matter what I do". When I searched that a zillion things came up, but not the video.
The video is hilarious. I love it. Also just a terrific song. This was when Weller was unstoppable.
Song of Summer since 1983
Great sound, bring's back lot's of memories Summer 83👍
"The long hot summer just passed me by"....2020

No matter what I do, since 1983, I still love listening to this song. Great track xx
