5:25 Well 2 cents off 1 car differential in 1 million cars shipped is 20000 dollars. Some guy at the factory got himself a new used 2021 real car. Also, they can save some money by selling the roller without motor/esc/battery/receiver/transmitter to save that extra 2 cents. I like it brushed, but not 3slot 14T Nimh brushed. Even I will swap that 40 amp esc for 1060 or 1080g2. But you are right on that one: quality and durability should be a main priority and not only in the RC world. Great detailed in-depth review as usual.
Yeah I would gladly pay the extra whatever it costs for them to put fluid in the differential. Grease is fine as long as you never plan on doing anything with it but It really sucks if you have to get all that out of there to put fluid in. I almost rather they just leave it dry and let us put whatever we want in it but of course you can't have that.
@@DoRC Also yes, roller with dry differential and maybe even empty shocks. I kinda like mine filled with the thinnest oil available for "pinball" mode, but I get it why most people hate it.
The grease makes sense to me; I bet most of these trucks live and die with the diff never getting cracked open since this is an entry-level truck. You want those gears to stay lubricated for the expected life of the truck, and grease in a sealed diff ain't going anywhere!
Knowing what I did with one of my Gorgons, I will go full stupid on my red Fury. The 2 in 1 mounting fits the 6s/8s Traxxas ESCs perfectly. As do the 540XL motors. Time to get busy. Once again, amazing review and by far the best out there, Talbot kills them so I don't have to. You take them apart so I don't have to.
Awesome review. Have to say I love the look of this thing and would love it if Arrma sold it with a traditional 4WD set up .. Looked so good drifting in the vid..
Hot Racing makes a 15mm aluminum motor spacer to make that HW motor fit. Only issue you might run into is the shaft then being to short. I had to flip my pinion around and put it on the very end of the shaft. It's hung on since before Christmas tho. I'm running a 100a 4000kv Spektrum combo in my Gorgon. The motor isn't recommended for 3s but it's run on it for nearly a year. It makes the Gorgon stupid fun.

I'm gonna try to get a 3650 motor to fit without cutting the chassis using the Hot Racing motor spacer meant for the Gorgon. I'm a huge fan of this platform so far. Cheap, durable, mod-friendly and fun.
Nice that should work. Yeah this is actually my first experience with the platform as I never ended up getting a gorgon when they first came out. It's pretty sweet!
Nice video. I really like this platform. Looks durable and upgradable. I like the shot where you almost got hit. I did the same thing the other day taking my MT10 off my big kicker ramp not paying close enough attention. You would think I could hit a 40 inch wide ramp a little more square. 😃
Yeah recording and driving at the same time while at a 45° angle to the ramp with the car coming at you definitely is not the easiest thing in the world.
For the $169 price i picked up a Senton Boost at my local Hobbytown and since i already own 6 other Arrmas' i will be converting the Senton to a 3s which in my case, i consider the Senton a better truck than this one. I don't like that thin long chassis on the Fury. It is great though to see Arrma still developing affordible new rc vehicles for people getting into the hobby. Great video BTW.
I'm actually really liking the thin long chassis. It doesn't have a big dished area for a bunch of crap to get caught up in and it keeps the weight really centralized. Yeah just depends on what your goals are. I would stick with these to see just how long they will last. I've had really good luck with the plastic shocks on the 3S trucks and these shocks are almost identical. In the application they'll probably be fine.
Nice video and very good platform from Gorgon! You say something wrong, these shocks are not on the 4s series, on the 4s they are 15 mm and they are different with an aluminum body, as you well know!
Sorry I may not have been clear. I was referring to the fact that the bottoms of the 4S shocks are removed using that special tool as well. They are not identical in design to the 3S ones. You're correct.
@@DoRC one day I’m gonna bling up the front with aluminum. I wanted to get blue but it appears the only thing available now is red casters and steering blocks. I’m kinda scared to run it anymore because finding replacement a arms had been a pain
Looks like it stays on its wheels much better than the boost platform Senton, which this appears to have replaced, but I’m still not a fan of that granite voltage style chassis. I primarily use my rig on a carpet track, so this wouldn’t help me out with no adjustments in height or camber. Looks plenty rugged tho.
It's very stable. As far as the chassis keep in mind that even though it looks like the granite voltage it's not the granite voltage. Other than the basic shape the two platforms share nothing in common.
The only one I think I would get would be the 2wd vortex the new one more of a traditional stadium truck feel rear motor, motor in the back she I’d love to be able to check out those clippers body mounts I also hearted and saved that hobby wing quick tin brushless combo on my Amazon would be great for my Tekin motor I’ll just have to cut the bullets off.
I think I had a torment a while back but to be honest with you it's been so long that I don't remember. I will say that for bashing I'm not really sure how you could beat this platform.
It now has too much power to drive well, which is what most RCers want. Next time bring a dirt rake with you. You had a pile in the road that was just begging to be turned into a jump, rather than just being slammed into. Few reviewers put much time into improving their bashing spots. You could lead the pack.
I would but it's not my spot and I'm not really probably supposed to be there so spending extra time doing anything that isn't bashing doesn't feel like a good idea to me :-)
With the motor basically needing to be a 3660 can or one of those motors with a rear wire exit, you may as well go for the 10bl120 esc motor combo for $90. I don’t see many options from even the Amazon brands. They all have top exit
Yeah if you get things on sale you can probably save maybe 20 bucks with the 60 amp ESC and it does seem plenty powerful enough but I agree for simplicity and practicality just going with the 120 combo probably is the best way
If the motor shaft is long enough you can add a spacer between the motor and the mounting plate. Companies make aluminum ones that are also supposed to aid in motor cooling.
Awesome truck I think I'll have to get one! It was a pretty modest 3S system with fairly conservative gearing. It was 50% faster than the stock system on 2S which is pretty much what I was going for.
You don't need them but in my nearly 25 years is a professional mechanic I've learned that they really can make life better. In this case specifically having a decent set of hex bits will prevent you from stripping out a lot of screws.
@Johnny6ex Yeah and if they work for you that's great. I've probably owned 30 or 40 different sets of bits over the years and I have found all of the cheap ones tend to wear quickly and don't fit well. If you're using them in ideal conditions they can work but once they start to wear out or if you run into a worn hex you're a lot more likely to strip them out. I use these MIP bits every single day and they last years. Sure they're more expensive but if you break the cost out over how long they last it's totally worth it. At least to me.
@@DoRC How about a direct comparison to a 2WD Traxxas Slash? I normally run a Slash at my local track for fun when I'm not racing. It might make for an interesting video doing a direct comparison between the two. Ease of upgrades, parts availability, driving experience, durability and so on.
You gonna convert it to a Gorgon? Be careful when you say things like "make a real monster out of this truck" as the term "monster truck" is already in common use and means something different than just adding more power.
What you doing wipe that grease out 😂 who cares about the residual if don’t care if grease anyway , just 5k or something hopefully it’s not so strong just because the diff is open
I think it depends on what your goals are. Objectively if you're trying to get somewhere or are looking for the best handling possible then yes four-wheel drive is better but that doesn't really take into account the fun factor. Two wheel drive vehicles handle completely differently from four-wheel drive vehicles and at least in my opinion are a different kind of fun
@@DoRC More kinda fun in a more challenging to drive without looping-out kinda way! But seriously yeah it is a different flavor of driving and it is nice to have that variety over the 4WD point and shoot driving. It has always been interesting though that 2WD due to its price has typically been an entry point for people into the hobby, and they are starting with an RC that has more of a learning curve to drive.
@@nicko2222 It's a pretty normal reaction and to be honest For many people it's true. If I could only own one RC car and had a choice between two wheel drive and four-wheel drive I would pick four-wheel drive. Two wheel drive is fun though!

You can't get a spacer that allows you to run shorter can motors though I'm not sure you can run that one specifically.
All this 2wd business has me nostalgic for my raider
Yeah I've got one of those too I need to do something with it :-)
@@DoRC one day I’m gonna bling up the front with aluminum. I wanted to get blue but it appears the only thing available now is red casters and steering blocks. I’m kinda scared to run it anymore because finding replacement a arms had been a pain
@@dylanwhite6539 Yeah parts have definitely become scarce.
Yeah the vorteks is pretty cool too!
SCTs have the nicest looking body roll...
They definitely do look good in slow motion!
How does it compare to the ECX Torment 2wd?
I think I had a torment a while back but to be honest with you it's been so long that I don't remember. I will say that for bashing I'm not really sure how you could beat this platform.
@@DoRC TY, I'm looking into getting one to mod and bash.
Well based on how long ago the ECX came out and the fact that it's discontinued I really think The Fury would be your better choice.
13:24 I wonder if you ever got headshotted by the rc lol, have you ever got hit real bad trying to get the shot for your vids?
I've never taken a full-on headshot but I have been hit pretty hard before. No serious injuries yet.
I bought the Amazon kingVal 3660 3500kv motor 60a 2-3s esc for 55 bucks. shipped. Rips. I love it.
Surpass hobby v2 (f550) fits well in gorgon, but it gets hot
Good to know!
You almost get hit, but still good moments. Hands up if anyone happens the same. Me that happened to me
Yeah when you're the driver and the cameraman sometimes you've got to get in the way to get the shots :-)
was the brushless speed run on 2s or 3s?
3s
@@DoRC i am probably going for a 2600kv with a 13 or 14t and a hobby rocket esc
@@DoRC what pinion are you using 13 right?
@politie_jip112 whatever the stock one is I think 13 or 14.
@@DoRC alright 13t is stock
Anyone know what size of the stock motor shaft ?
It's 1/8 in
@@DoRC thank you Do
Awesome truck I think I'll have to get one!
Something a little off topic: you don't have to give me any exact numbers but I'm curious if 20K subscribers brings in enough ad revenue to get the bills paid without a 2nd job. I'd love to be a full-time UA-camr but I just want to get an idea of a goal I should be shooting for. 😎🤙🏽
I wish I could help you but my channel is not monetized nor do I do affiliate sales. This channel is For love of the hobby and to to get to talk to you guys :-)
@@DoRC oh cool right on man. Thanks for the reply. You may as well monetize though. It won't affect any of us subscribers negatively, but it will affect you positively. 😎🤙🏽
@@brsrc759 I appreciate that but not being monetized is a personal decision. I might change my mind in the future but for now I'm happy with the way things are :-)
@@DoRC can't argue with that! I love your attitude and of course your videos. You make pretty much the best and most in-depth review videos on UA-cam. So stoked I found your channel. Aloha 😎🤙🏽
@@brsrc759 thanks Glad you enjoy :-)
This is how it should be sold.
Yeah but then it would cost more :-)
@@DoRC I think it would outsell the brushed version...even if it was $50 more...anyway...great day Amigo..✌🏻😎
That was on 3s in hat seemed very slow lol
It was a pretty modest 3S system with fairly conservative gearing. It was 50% faster than the stock system on 2S which is pretty much what I was going for.
Don't like bottom loaded shocks they always leak out and you have to remove them to add oil aftermarket shocks in the future 😮😅😅
I have never had a problem with the shocks since they updated the o-rings a while back.
@@DoRC my losi mini b had bottom loaded shocks but not now I got hot racing shocks and they work great 😎👍
@@richardbrown6762 Yeah the hot racing shocks are good. These actually work pretty well though
@@DoRC I changed the springs of soft ones light car and I put the spectrum 6000kv motor and it chewed the tires off lol
@@DoRC I want to put a brush less motor on my typhon grom but I want to keep the fan you have any suggestions?
14mm hexes?? WTF?
I think it's a good thing.
You dont need expensive tools
You don't need them but in my nearly 25 years is a professional mechanic I've learned that they really can make life better. In this case specifically having a decent set of hex bits will prevent you from stripping out a lot of screws.
@DoRC ye but some are quality for not that expensive and i like switchable bits makes it so easy to swap betwen a handle or machine
@@Johnny6ex The MIP bits I showed are switchable.
@DoRC dono these bit to expensive i got ful set for 20 somthing
@Johnny6ex Yeah and if they work for you that's great. I've probably owned 30 or 40 different sets of bits over the years and I have found all of the cheap ones tend to wear quickly and don't fit well. If you're using them in ideal conditions they can work but once they start to wear out or if you run into a worn hex you're a lot more likely to strip them out. I use these MIP bits every single day and they last years. Sure they're more expensive but if you break the cost out over how long they last it's totally worth it. At least to me.
You will break your truck when you jump big jumps and I have problems getting parts but it's yours to do that 😮😅😅😅
Which parts do you have problems with?
@@DoRC every thing
I always tell people. 1/10 is the sweet spot! 1/5 are too big to do anything meaningful.
This thing's really nice too because it's very light even for one 10th scale.
I'm not really a fan of Arrma, but they nailed the design on this truck. As far as a cheap basic basher goes, this thing is awesome looking.
It's definitely good!
@@DoRC How about a direct comparison to a 2WD Traxxas Slash? I normally run a Slash at my local track for fun when I'm not racing. It might make for an interesting video doing a direct comparison between the two. Ease of upgrades, parts availability, driving experience, durability and so on.
Did you suffer from a small stroke for the last few seconds of this video? jk
I'm not sure what you mean? I watched the end of the video and it sounds pretty normal to me.
You gonna convert it to a Gorgon? Be careful when you say things like "make a real monster out of this truck" as the term "monster truck" is already in common use and means something different than just adding more power.
Oh no I'm not just going to add more power :-)
What you doing wipe that grease out 😂 who cares about the residual if don’t care if grease anyway , just 5k or something hopefully it’s not so strong just because the diff is open
The grease is actually thick enough that it doesn't feel wide open so I figured I'd leave it alone.
4wd is better.
It has always been interesting though that 2WD due to its price has typically been an entry point for people into the hobby, and they are starting with an RC that has more of a learning curve to drive.
so tired of people saying this literally every time they see a 2wd car lol
@@nicko2222 It's a pretty normal reaction and to be honest For many people it's true. If I could only own one RC car and had a choice between two wheel drive and four-wheel drive I would pick four-wheel drive.
Two wheel drive is fun though!
@@DoRC true but it’s two different things and i don’t understand why they’re constantly being compared. it’s like seeing someone eating an apple and saying to them “well oranges are better!” it’s just unnecessary
