Its interesting to see that even though Traxxas sued Arrma, in a short time one could argue that Arrma evolved to make a better value RC line. Im a traxxas fan but Arrma won me over with their durability and value. Not to mention they build great looking RCs!
@DoRC fun fact....the same reason this buggy went discontinued is the same reason the vaterra glamis uno went out. Jason from Arma, and John from hpi won't tell the details about it though.
@@DoRC It was a 1/10 scale RWD plastic chassis buggy with black plastic shock bodies with red caps just like this car! Traxxas would have sued for sure.
I kinda wonder if this Raider is the remake of the red and white one that to be fair if my memory serves me correctly, was not Arrma made, it was a buggy but the body was a little different, it to was brushed, brushless was just starting to come into the scene, a brushless speed controller and motor would cost over 600$ talk about time have changed, now you can get the same stuff for less than 100$ if you're savvy or find a bad rc with a esc and motor that works. I was wondering if this pre Arrma days buggy is what became their Raider? Not a lot of clues here, and I know I am relying on memory, but it was in the late 80's and Early 90's to mid 90's after that I don't recall seeing it anymore. So I had to buy another brand nope not Traxxas, there was another before their rule.
Wow I am impressed by this thing! I was cringing so hard watching it land on the pavement like that, I was just waiting for it to snap in half. Very interesting format of video, I really enjoyed it!
Ah the raider...overweight, low quality plastics, a front bulkhead that liked to break, a battery door thar liked to get stuck....it looked cool and drove ok but there were far better buggy options to choose from.
My Arrmas have always been great out of the box, Traxxas in the last ten years has been hit and miss with crap servos and ESC’s lights of death. Traxxas will fix it for an additional 70 dollars lol which is the warranty. Traxxas parts tend to wear out faster than Arrma, although the water resistance is better in traxxas. Both have their plus and minus’s. Maybe if traxxas fired some administrators they could lower the prices and hire more RnD staff. Arrma could do with making better diffs. I don’t get the lawsuits, capitalism is supposed to be a free market that drives innovation and consumer choice. If someone copies your product then you make a better one. At least that’s the lie we learned we are supposed to have. Lawsuits should be banned when it comes to corporations targeting others.
Ehh. I'd have to disagree with that. After having driven this car and the Gorgon platform nearly back to back I would say the modern platform is superior in pretty much every way. It handles better, is more versatile and is far easier to work on.
Perfect video at the perfect time.! 👌 👌 👍 👍 HECK YES I want a new version of the Raider, on the 330mm SC chassis too.!! I'd buy that as soon as I could.!! I'd also love Arrma to make a 4S Felony on the Mojave 4S platform... I'd buy that one whether I could or not, I'd find a way.! 😉 😉 I have a Gorgon (with a 3660, 4200kv motor & 120A, 4S ESC) & a Mojave 4S & they're both fantastic, those chassis have got so much more potential.. I wanted ome of these so bad when thay came out, but it didn't fit into my high school budget for gasoline and stadium truck (T4) racing. The way the body and cage and chassis structure integrate was always the big novelty for me and really added depth to an otherwise basic platform. I've since scratched that particular itch with things like the Tamiya BBX, Kyosho Outlaw Rampage, caged crawlers, etc. Still, I would love to see ARRMA bring out a new Raider, and I'd have to get one.
Did you really just put that diff and rear end back together without cleaning any of it and putting fresh grease in it..? Eww... That's... a sin... to the hobby gods... Also. EFF YOU CEE KAY Traxxas... I have a trx4 and I will NEVER purchase another traxxas product again... I thought they were supposed to be "The BEST name in RC" or some crap like that but all I got was a year of headaches and weeks at a time of having to wait until I could buy replacement parts for whatever broke that week... First it was the shift servo. Then one of the diff lock servos. Then the steering. Then my battery puffed up after not even 6 months of ownership. Then the other diff lock servo. Then the receiver. Then the esc. Then the motor. It's literally had every single electric part in it replaced out of necessity. Not desire to upgrade... It's disgusting... THEY should be sued into oblivion instead of them suing everyone else all the time.
@@DoRC just wish traxxas would atleast innovate, y'know? like if they're going to charge a lot of money for a copy/paste car they should at least make new designs (last one was sledge i think).
@@DoRCthat’s hell of a find 👍🏻. It’s in pretty good condition too. Well,, until you broke it 😂. Also horizon hobby uk has been gone since brexit. If Jason is running HHUK the website still isn’t available to us. Is there a new website or something?
Hm. Looks like the ancestor of the Gorgon platform.
It pretty much is :-)

Yeah they definitely recovered from that problem Well :-)
all I have is Arrma and have a hard time looking at anything else, thanks for the history of Arrma
They definitely make some good cars! Thanks for watching :-)
That's crazy you still have one in good condition 💪
Yeah I picked it up on eBay. It's surprisingly clean still.
I expected to see some moths fly out of the servo when you opened it up, like moths flying out of a cartoon character's empty wallet.
Lol. I should have added that effect in.
I want them to make a 1/5 raider
That would be awesome. Would you be okay if it was four-wheel drive?
I really hope they make something similar to this later in the future, i love how rc buggies look
Yeah I'm actually kind of surprised they haven't come out with a buggy version of the Gorgon.
More old stock footage of RC cars, please. Why do all the r c car Commercials appear to be from the eightys
It's not that the car commercials look like they're from the '80s it's just that our memories are usually shifted by about 20 or 30 years :-)
Why sliper clutch how you get power to wheels and wldnt cush drive be beter
My friend searched high and low for the XL version of this buggy and finally bought it this year.
Nice! I owned an XL when they first came out but I kind of want another one.

@@thatoneguy2756 interesting. I did find it more than coincidental that the first Arrmas had TVPs
If Kyosho was like Traxxas, this car would have been named something else.
Interesting. I didn't know they had a raider. I'm kind of surprised Arrma used that name.

Apparently the original was made by kyosho. It was also called the raider but I don't think they have anything in common other than that

Yeah I think Traxxas big problem these days is their pricing. They seem to have priced themselves right out of most categories in the hobby.
