After 40 years of cutting my own hair, and along the way figuring out how to do this, I took myself off to a salon as a treat. Now waiting for the razor cut to grow out so I can cut my softness back in. For those who are in training, this is such an important technique.
I’m not a hairdresser “ is that the right term? “ but I love these videos! I find them so relaxing! I really believe hair cutting is an art! It definitely is eye opening! It’s fascinating to me! Thanks!
Me too ... but I also snip on mine too! Would LOVE to have then give mine a new look ... just took 3-4 " off ... starting to think arm pit length would be good ...
I liked your presentation Samm. Yes all that you said about point pivot with parallel and diagonal cutting is the ways I learned in cosmetology school.. Video was well explained and demonstrated thank you.
I'm going to beauty school next year after I leave the military, and am most nervous about this technique. Thanks for making the video it set me a lot more at ease about point-cutting.
Hi! What type of blade for deep point-cutting for an amateur? :) micro-serration, beveled etc? really appreciate the reply - not easy to find an answer to this question online.
I have extremely thick wavy hair and hairdressers have butchered it unfortunately. What is the hest thinning technique for a chin length bob would you say?
This is exactly why I'm here. I have long, thick, wavy, hair, and I ALWAYS explain "please trim only a half inch from the ends, as I want to keep the length" and they always butcher it. Today they cut it to almost chin length. I'm done and I'll cut my own hair from now on.
I have a Graduated Bob, how can I get the feathered look and more diffinition with lots of layers, what do I ask for in the salons ? Somehow this isn't coming across well
GINA GARCIA I’m a hairdresser. Have you ever shown your stylist a picture of what you want? Hairdressers are very visual people so sometimes showing a picture will make sure you’re both speaking the same language. If you can’t find a picture of the *exact* look you’re going for, find pictures that show certain things you do like in a cut. I’ll have someone show me one picture for length, another for the style of the layers, another for the bangs and it goes on and on. Hope that helps!
How can I ask my hairdresser to use this style of cutting without offending. I find I always end up with a very blocky pixie cut. To be fair my hair is very fine as well as thin. Help please.
Hair dressers don’t know how to point-cut anymore, not in Denmark at least. All they know is blunt-cutting, even when you tell them to make a V-cut, like wth? I could make my sister blunt-cut my hair if I wanted, why pay $50?😤
I once had a young lady cut herself while cutting my hair. her instructor finished my cut, after I left, I discovered I had a very uneven cut. I was so upset, it was very noticeable. I had to go to another salon and have it redone.
I CANT GET ANY HAIR DRESSER TO MAKE MY HAIR WHISPY AND FLIPED UP I GO IN DEEP AND I GOT THE LOOK IT FLIPS I FINALLY GOT THE HAIR I WANTED AND IT DIDN'T COST ME 50.00 DOLLARS

I just looked up "notching" and that's not at all what it is... maybe it gives the same effect, but completely different technique. Notching. Definition. Version of point cutting in which the tips of the scissors are moved toward the hair ends rather than into them;creates a chunkier effect.
3:42 "angle of approach"... really? Completely wrong angle- actually the opposite, and your team (member) Jessie Linares had to do an entire video to show how to correct the angle you showed your viewers. The shears should be pointed toward the part, to blend them evenly when they fall. This is crucial, especially when wanting a soft seamless layering look, which is the sole purpose of point cutting. Here's your friends video, just so you don't keep contradicting yourself. ua-cam.com/video/URq4Js3DUZg/v-deo.html

what angle is optimal for a messy textured middlepart? medium long?
Does the direction of the notch (i.e. the direction the scissors is facing when making the notch) make a difference as to how the hair lays?
