It’s the band you know instantly. Iconic sound
This was also the first tour after Bruce had beat throat cancer(a year later to be exact). I saw them a month after this show in Los Angeles and they were phenomenal as always.
Wasted Years always has more of a carefree, relaxed feel to it when they perform it live in my opinion. This "relaxed" attitude fits the message of the song I feel.

Also regarding how sweaty Bruce is, this was the final song of the show. Not sure if you noticed the totems depicting each band member with the glowing eyes, but it was a very cool stage prop...that was used for just this song. These guys don't do this for money, they pour a ton of cash into their tours. They just love music and love their fans.

Nikko is around 70 in this video. They don't tour for the money, I think they just enjoy it. If you meet Nikko in public he's down to earth and very humble. I met him outside his restaurant at 8pm. I had to leave after a hour.
Nicko is 71 now, so he would have been around 63 here.
I met him in 2004 after a small club show he did with his Maiden cover band, McBrain Damage…really nice guy, signed merch and posed for photos with everyone after the show who wanted it.
I think it's 65 here, but it still stands the dude has more energy now than I had at 30

Great song and interesting back story on this - In the studio Adrian is playing it and Steve says I like that. Adrian said he thought it would be too commercial and the rest is history.
This was the last song on last summer's tour and on one of the nights early on in the tour Adrian wasn't happy with Nicko he thought he mucked it up.

I have a story on a hot day on stage. July 4, 1985, The World Slavery Tour, (Powerslave release), outdoors, CalExpo amphitheatre, Sacramento, CA. Temp was around 106°f. Dave Murray said it was so hot on stage the guys had to keep moving because their shoes were sticking to the stage covering. As soon as the show was over (it was an 'early' concert in the middle of the blistering p.m.)they all jumped in the backstage pool. On the Live After Death doublegate vinyl release, the candid pictures on innersleeve are of Maiden goofing off in that pool from that daytime gig. I don't remember who the opening band was, but one of their amps blewup w/a Big cloud of smoke! Seemed like it took the roadies awhile to notice the situation. The next day, July 5th, The World Slavery Tour ended in Irvine, CA, where Maiden's 1st full live album Live After Death was recorded, Martin Birch producer.

One of my faves of IM.
Adrian Smith, red scarve, wrote this song in 1986 for the "Somewhere in Time" album. Out of the blue in the studio at a simple guitar jamming.
He is also a great singer/writer (Smith & Kotzen) solo projekt.
Saw this song at the actuell "The Future Past Tour" in 2023, germany, hannover.
Last song for the gig.

My wife and I saw 16 shows on the Book of Souls tour. I don’t know quite how to describe it. By the end of each exhausting show it was just so cathartic, so emotional, and just so …. joyous. I will have cherished memories of that tour forever.

I'd really recommend "If Eternity Should Fail" and / or "Speed of Light" from the same tour. Hell of an energy in those songs and they nail it as always.
Next must be Where Eagles Dare or Powerslave. The first is my personal favourite, about the second Nicko says it's the hardest to play.

The fluctuating tempo during this performance highlights exactly why I prefer bands that don't use click tracks. I'll take performance over tightness any day of the week.

I totally get what you were saying about this performance not being as tight.
I noticed it on some of the guitar parts and vocal arts.
And I agree with your thoughts that bands aren't supposed to be pitch perfect on every note of every song of every concert. It's live music. The little imperfections are what make each show special. Especially if you are there, at that show. It's not so good in a video years later when you aren't caught up in the emotion of the moment and can spot all the flubs.
But when you can see them goofing around with the mics, and just all around having some fun, it's worth a few miscues.
Final song at their age it’s still incredibly impressive
1:04 this was the final song of the encore on the Book Of Souls tour, so they had already been on stage for an hour and 45-50 minutes… same as the recent Future Past tour, Wasted Years is the final song of the night, it’s just such a big singalong tune. Speaking of the Future Past tour, maybe check out Stranger In A Strange Land, and see how Nicko made it sound so good even after suffering a stroke at the start of last year that left him temporarily paralysed on his right side. For someone his age to come back from that and still put in the performances he did, the man deserves so much love.
The footage of this song is from multiple shows on the tour, and I do love the shots of Bruce moving Adrian’s mic away when he sings the backing harmony on the chorus. But I much prefer the Flight 666 version where Bruce lets Adrian sing the chorus, Adrian has such a nice warm tone in his voice.

After playin' this song over so many years, it's a natural thing to switch it up a bit, tempo wise. I've heard Maiden when their set is too fast on the tempo imo. Iron Maiden is the best 80s metal🤘🏼still thrivin'

The only thing i dont like about this version is the sound guys lowered Steves bass too low. In the studio version its very prominent. It just doesnt sound right without it. With that being said, UP THE IRONS!!!🤘🤘
