  • Hello everyone! In today's video, we will be determining if the 5th gen Honda Prelude is a cursed car and if you should buy one. I borrowed a lot of footage from other people's videos and I will properly credit them here. Special thanks ‪@ShootingCars‬ for doing a review/retrospective of my car 3 years ago. I feel like he was the only car review person to actually commentate on the prelude correctly and respect it. I really hope you guys enjoy this commentary, took me a while to create the footage and weave them into the commentary. What car should I do next? Let me know in the comments below!

    I remember having such a hard time finding parts for my 5th gen Prelude but a company called Jackson Racing did come out with a supercharger kit specially made for 5th gen Preludes. Mugen also had a header and exhaust for the 5th gen Preludes as well.

    *CORRECTION* the h22a was available in the accord, ascot and Torneo but those were European exclusive, they were not international to the u.s or japan. I was only focusing on those two areas.

    There’s way more support than y’all think there is definitely more than you make out there to be. I own two of these cars and I’ve never really had trouble getting parts at all. Lots of people probably don’t know this but the H series engine is just a dohc version of the f series engines and the h22 ran longer than you think aswell. The vtec model was released in North America in 1993 and ran till 2001 when the last prelude model year was made. Also I’ve seen plenty of turbo kits for these engines manifold and intercooler and all. And ALSO the h22 was put in other cars from other countries that America did not get. This video is definitely super underrated This car is amazing

      Thanks for the comment. A lot has changed since I made this video. The car has definitely gotten more love and appreciate over the years, which in my opinion started with the 1/64 hot wheels car. I’m not seeing more of these cars on the street however they are not clean.

      @@preludeboy99 I see a few nice ones in oregon but my prelude and its story is cursed as any other lol I would make a whole video on its own.. completely filled with water and molded sitting here in oregon for a half a year bc of its heap of issues and with just 1 small leak ruined the interior. since then ive gutted it and tried to drive it and the steering is numb and unresponsive its terrifying to drive gas and braking pull the car wildly all over the road especially at high speed... ( its a 2001 prelude type sh 240k miles with a 100k mile jdm h22a swap. ) I had huge plans for this car including body work and full paint job where i work ):

      Nothing compared to the k24 or k20 motor. A lot of our parts are discontinued if you need to get an oem part. Body kits, I’ve seen a lot of euro kits but my main point is our chassis doesn’t get that much attention compared to other Hondas. I cant find a supercharger for the h22a that’s brand new in box. I have to either modify a pre-existing supercharger that was made for a different motor or buy a used one, turbos is a little easier but our engines aren’t good for turbos. Bottom line is: it’s not as huge as the civic or integra.

    From what I heard.. the accord coupe ate in to prelude sales. also, the Prelude weight wasn't significantly heavier than the integras or civics. Integra: 2,764 lbs... honda civic: 2,612 lbs... Prelude: 3,042 lbs

    • @preludeboy99
      @preludeboy99  2 роки тому

      300lbs is still a big difference in terms of performance. I hear a lot of people complain about the weight. Me personally, I don’t care, the car is beautiful and deserves it’s spotlight in Hondas line up of sports cars

      @@preludeboy99 true. I own a 97 prelude. Its amazing and I can't let it go.
      I would say that the car being heavy is only in comparison to civics and integral with less horse power and torque, so for me it never really factored in because the person with the biggest bragging rights is the guy who has the crx with an b16 or h22 in it.

    I own a 3rd gen JDM Prelude ive owned for over 25 years, its highly modified and have owned many others as daily river, all JDM (im from New Zealand) I swapped out my B20A for a B18c, the H22 has torque but is very heavy and makes the front of any car not designed for it very boaty. It used to be the gun choice for all motor drag applications and would vibrate your stomach when started with straight pipes. it was awkward to work on and very hard to get aftermarket parts for outside of the US, to add to this, the gearboxes we not great and many did an H2B swap. The H22 is a good motor, but rare and it has long since run its race. I went with the B series because its light, obtainable (but getting expensive now), has huge aftermarket support and the sky is the limit for how much power you want, from 160hp to over 2000hp is obtainable with billet blocks. I would have gone to the K series, but I grew up with B series engines and the car had the first B series engine from the factory and was also being produced the same year mine was built (1988) so I consider it a period correct swap for what is now a classic that is becoming very rare. It has a GT3582R with a speeduino ECU- Used to use Megasquirt back in the day- I never understood chipping Honda ECUs, seemed like a waste of time after MS1 was released in 2002...

      The 3rd gen is my favorite generation. I love the boxy look and the pop up headlights. The 5th gen borrowed heavily from the 3rd gen design, which is why I praise the 3rd gen the most. H22 is still a solid alternative to the K and was Hondas power house motor before K. I’m thinking about swapping to K. Maybe I’ll make a video about it

    Is the Prelude cursed? Short awnser, No. When reading up on the Prelude curse, you come across alot of them being T-boned. This is due to driving mistakes, or someone in another car running red lights. It can happen to every car on the road. People say its a curse because of the rarity of the car. Everytime it happens, it gets posted. Thats why it LOOKS like its cursed. As for the video itself, yes, parts are hard to find, and it has the typical 90s Honda rust issues. Deep dish rims on a Lude looking good, is about taste. I dont like them at all personally. Dont let this prevent you from buying one. They are a TON of fun to drive, just be aware of the possible problems you might encounter. They are not speedmachines, because, as said in the video, they are heavy. Just lift the hood up and you`ll know why.

      Most likely in the European version. Not in the u.s. I think the accords had the j series and some other 4 cylinder motor I’m not familiar with. I guess I’ll make a correction that it was only in the European accord, ascot and torneo

    • @ArcticAsian
      @ArcticAsian 2 роки тому +1

      The h series was in the preludes and Accords overseas. was based on the F series which was in the US accords and odysseys, which main difference was the iron sleeves rather than frm. iirc

    Honda ( like Toyota) just isn't into racing and speed. Family cars and SUV's are their market. Yes they make the occasional fast car, but They aren't into it. have ONE racing car, the Civic Type R. Everything else is family oriented. Like Toyota. Due to so many complaints and demands, they brought back the Supra, and it's a BMW. Honda stopped the NSX last year, and the new Integra SUCKED so far as horse power. You want fast? Go to Subaru. Nissan. BMW. Volkswagen GTi. Grant it, those choices won't last as long as a Toyota or Honda - but for stock hp and excitement? It's those four. Yeah, the Prelude was fun, but next time, choose a car company that still has a racing spirit till today.
