The comment about the prices in Hawaii are absolutely true. We have ridiculous car prices because 1. Everything has to be shipped from over seas which drives cost up 2. There isnt a whole lot of desirable cars so theyre just wayyyy harder to come by and 3. If it runs and drives, its automatically “worth” 2x the amount. For example, we have people asking 6k+ for civic shells. SHELLS

The only difference between the prices pre-covid and now is more of a premium for clean ones and the bottom end being completely gone. You can't find one of these for a thousand bucks anymore in good condition. Even in the late 10's they were easy to find stock going for very little money now and then, an impossibility today

I accidentally set the car alarm off trying to fish a tennis ball from underneath the car with my hockey stick, just barely hit the skirt and it had one of those wild ass early 2000s alarm systems that give you like 6 different alarms in one lol
The u.s. version had the h22a4 which is a composite block to increase cooling to the cylinders for longer tracks and roads because the americas are big af. The jdm version has the h22a which they just made thicker to deal with he heat... the h22a is the swap and boost motor the a4 has thin sleeves and has to have them changed out to be boosted and not fail but is still not as durable overall.

I got a 2001 Prelude but fuck me do you need to do a lot to it to get it on top performance wise, its got 212k miles and the interior is still mint somehow.. Auto trans ALSO still somehow works (they're ass so ill probably do a manual swap if I can't do some engineering and modify it to not be awful like Honda did it, because this is my daily and not my builder.) FYI, you don't want the SH model with the ATTS. Trust me, I knew plenty of Prelude owners with the SH and it would give out or be deadweight eventually. Just get teins or any quality adjustables and you'll handle basically about the same. Reason I bought this car was because there are a million integras where I live and not a damn Prelude anywhere, not even a 4th gen either. If it's fun, handles good and I can at least do a bit to it while I grab something else to build for meetups, that's what counts.
You guys lucky to have only H22 versions in the US! In Europe we got mostly beated up F20 with like 130hp (non VTEC ones) Preludes for 1-2k $ or H22 with like 200hp (VTEC ones) w 4WS for like 4k or more $ very rarely :///

For me the purple and green combo is from kawasaki mx and Enduro bikes from the mid 90s. I has a few as a kid. Still my favorite color combo ever. That being said it looks cheesy asf in an engine bay.

I feel like the Honda prelude should of been RWD. Just looking at how the body style looks it seems like they would of been a great RWD Honda and it would of been a good competitor against the 240sx.
Windshield tint is not stupid. Those sun strips are fucking stupid. But tinting your whole windshield in something reasonable is very useful. The biggest and most angled piece of glass on your car letting in the most light and heat being tinted with a ceramic film is one of the best things you can do. Not only that, but having super dark sides with a clear windshield is like funneling all of the light directly into your retinas. I hate driving or riding in cars with limo sides and a bare windshield. I mean, I'm not fond of limo sides in general, but a good 20/50 combo is my game. I accidentally ended up with a 30% ceramic tinted windshield paired with 15 on the sides of one of my cars and it was only a little annoying at night. But in the Florida heat? That car was painted black and I could leave it in the sun for hours, then get in and I could actually bear to sit in it for a full two minutes before feeling the desperate NEED to drop a window or prop a door open that you usually immediately feel from getting into a car in those conditions. And to top it all off, the car would be freezing you out of it within 10 minutes of the AC being on full blast. Compared to the 20+ minutes just to get it down to almost room temperature in an untinted car.

If i could go back in time, id get one new. Nowdays hell no people want too much for a clean one and its still gonna be a 24+ year old honda. If i owned it from day 1 no problem, id leave it stock i think they sound like trash modified unless its turbo then its no longer a daily. Just lower it a little, nice wheels and all that oem+ style keep it clean. For the price today id rather pay a little more for a good lexus ls400
