The 2.2 liter VTEC H22A of the Honda Prelude was one of Honda's best engines of the era in the exact same drivetrain layout as every single other 90s Honda, but for some reason nobody cares about the old Honda Prelude anymore. Today we look at a bunch of fifth gen grand touring Civic XLs and hope to find something worthwhile on Facebook Marketplace. We do not succeed and our audio is blown out. Sorry!

My dad used to own one of these in Nordic Mist Metallic with a 5MT and the rare leather interior. He had to sell it when I was younger and I've been on the hunt for it, or one similar since. But this video has just reinforced my worse fears that some ricer got it and killed it lol

Was also looking for one, but saw a 96" stock Accord with the F22B1, not exactly a Prelude, but hey, just swapped a prelude SI 5speed in and with some mods it is somewhat close... It is also quite nice to roadtrip because of space and the interior
The comment about the prices in Hawaii are absolutely true. We have ridiculous car prices because 1. Everything has to be shipped from over seas which drives cost up 2. There isnt a whole lot of desirable cars so theyre just wayyyy harder to come by and 3. If it runs and drives, its automatically “worth” 2x the amount. For example, we have people asking 6k+ for civic shells. SHELLS

The s2000 replaced it and that’s what it was. I prefer a coupe over a 2 seater and the looks of the prelude and history over the s2000.
That huge wing is OEM optioned. The 5th Gen came with 4 wings. High rise, mid rise, low rise and the flush mount.

@@damienlee1165 Interesting, in my country the 5th gen Preludes are quite popular among young car enthusiasts because they are cheap, reliable, quick, and seen as cool. I've seen a couple of them at car meets, and even one of my coworkers has one. The 7th gen Accord is also quite popular for similar reasons. In fact, I've heard it called "the Accord that everyone has".
Love my lude, even having 630 whp Z nothing beats this car. maybe because it's the first car I worked so hard for 😅

I remember as a kid my neighbour’s daughter across the street owned a mint prelude. I accidentally set the car alarm off trying to fish a tennis ball from underneath the car with my hockey stick, just barely hit the skirt and it had one of those wild ass early 2000s alarm systems that give you like 6 different alarms in one lol

I’ve always liked the look of the preludes. They aged pretty well.

6th gen Prelude, 2.3L VTEC TURBO JDM base model with upgrades CLEAN TITLE swap K20 (not modified!!!!) RWD 6 speed automatic car is red but on the picture it looks green, no low-baller I know what I've got, can exchange with a Harley Shovelhead or a John Deer. 10K$ grand (cheap). I don't trade. The first gear is dead but the tran is brand new. Acura NSX wheels and WRX wing mounted by my cousin (he's a pro). Some electrical problems due to water damage but otherwise runs just fine. Used vape and Pokemon card booster deck included.

My sister had a prelude back in the 90's I always loved it. Never ended up getting one, but I did buy a hatch ek with a h22 back about 2010, it is prolly one of the best 4k dollar cars I ever bought.
The u.s. version had the h22a4 which is a composite block to increase cooling to the cylinders for longer tracks and roads because the americas are big af. The jdm version has the h22a which they just made thicker to deal with he heat... the h22a is the swap and boost motor the a4 has thin sleeves and has to have them changed out to be boosted and not fail but is still not as durable overall.

I shipped my 01 lude to Germany. Have never seen another one in Germany yet, but they did sell lude in Europe. The Honda dealer here even asked me what kind of car it is. The European spec lude has different bumper lights than mine.
The 4th gens have aged so well in my opinion.
Only thing that sucks on them is the taillights, and they're not even that bad. 5th gen is a real charmer though

im the second owner of my 2000 honda prelude, satin silver metallic with 150k miles and the keys still have the orignal blue thurston dealer tags, i wouldnt sell it but if i had to put a price on it it would be 10-15k because of the rarity of it. and rarity if it not being defiled and clapped out, it is extremely well kept i love my prelude🙏🏼

I loved that car, and I'd still be driving it if that goddamn J20 didn't plow into it on the 405 freeway.

For me the purple and green combo is from kawasaki mx and Enduro bikes from the mid 90s. I has a few as a kid. Still my favorite color combo ever. That being said it looks cheesy asf in an engine bay.

You guys lucky to have only H22 versions in the US! In Europe we got mostly beated up F20 with like 130hp (non VTEC ones) Preludes for 1-2k $ or H22 with like 200hp (VTEC ones) w 4WS for like 4k or more $ very rarely :///

Almost bought a 92. It didn't have VTEC, and it was automatic. 180k miles Did not care... I literally had the asking price ( $1500 ) in hand. Standing there with the woman who was selling it. While her husband frantically scrambled to find any paperwork on it at all that they swore up and down they had in the add.
Eventually after 2 hours of waiting I left. They had not found any title or prior registration. And to boot, lost the key...
Would have liked that Prelude though even if it was sad spec.

@@CollectorCarFeed 1997 5 speed! I bought it for 1.5k no start and I had to change the fuel pump and do a bunch of other work too. next step is to paint! Learned allot and I would recommend this car to anyone that wants a simple yet sporty honda 👍🏼

I was trying to help my friend find a used car to buy once and the number of people who brought the cars dirty as fuck was surprising. I literally told them. We're not buying it, it's way too dirty.
If i could go back in time, id get one new. Nowdays hell no people want too much for a clean one and its still gonna be a 24+ year old honda. If i owned it from day 1 no problem, id leave it stock i think they sound like trash modified unless its turbo then its no longer a daily. Just lower it a little, nice wheels and all that oem+ style keep it clean. For the price today id rather pay a little more for a good lexus ls400

The prelude is great unfortunately ricers have gotten to all the ones in my area and destroyed them.
