  • @zoomspilo6798

    I know that LavenderTowne mentions it, but I, someone who does photography for a hobby, need to shed more light on it. The burn tool is awful for art. The burn tool was made for photography, and it fits exactly for photography. The burn tool is supposed to be used as a way to contrast colours to make a photo have more of a personality. That is why the burn tool doesn't just make it darker, but also makes it more saturated.
    The burn tool is not, and never will be, good for drawing use.
    Okay, rant over.

    • @MegaBombGaming
      @MegaBombGaming 7 років тому +37

      Zoomspilo Well the burn and dodge tools were used in film photography before anything else. It was used to bring out darker or lighter colors to manipulate the image by focusing the light into certain areas. Back then you couldn't just put it in photoshop. But you are exactly right, using the burn and dodge effects make your drawing look flat and lazy. It's a clear sign for someone who doesn't know how to use the program.

    I love how you showed so many different ways to shade! I see a lot of art tutorials/tips/guides that are extremely black and white - *this* is the right way, *this* is the wrong way, etc. and I feel like it ends up being more detrimental than helpful since it leaves younger and/or more easily influenced artists thinking they have to do something a certain way. It's great to see a tutorial that shows there's no right or best way to make art, but goes through multiple techniques and demonstrates how they can be beneficial to a piece, even if it isn't a a method you personally use. Great job with this!

    BASICS OF KNOWING HOW TO SHADE:
    4:16 typical basic way
    4:48 talking bout how reflecting light bouncing off the ground is kinda complicated to explain, reflection e.t.c
    ANOTHER ANGLE: (DIFFERENT SUN PLACEMENT)
    5:45
    TIPS:
    7:20 tip that made this
    SO
    much easier :D
    Shade backwards (erase)
    3D:
    9:09 make em 3d
    Add hard shade lines to (not in difficulty like you did before) highlight
    TYPES OF SHADING:
    10:35 - using one solid colour
    11:33 - strong saturated colour, like a blue, soft brush, it’s so pretty :D

    • @alishaanimations3058
      @alishaanimations3058 3 роки тому +2

      @Carl The Meatgrinder well for starters I recommend finding *something* If you don’t know, you would need to find something you like that you want to practice first. Is it faces? Anime? Realistic? You got to pick atleast one for now. You won’t know how to draw if you don’t know what you want. Once you finish you could sell, frame, or popular is stick the work into a bigger art book, so you can store the book instead of the individual art.
      There are so many things to try man, you can’t hate them all if you really want to draw.

      Samika Do a trapezoid, the shorter end being where the wrist ends, and draw the lines for the fingers until about the middle of the trapezoid and add the thumb. It doesn't have to perfectly match up, it's just to give you an idea where to put things. And remember, the middle finger is the longest one, so the pinkie and ring finger should build up in size towards the middle finger.

    It makes me so happy that you use Amarante's music in your videos, it sounds so lovely under your voice and they're really under-appreciated. I also really love this video and it comes at a very good time. For a while, I did only flat colors in my art because I thought it looked better. In reality, I just didn't know how to do shading in a way that looked nice while still being effective and quick. I've been trying to do more shading recently and I'm happy this video came out when it did, because it gave me a lot of good advice on how to shade quickly and in a way that looks beautiful. Your art is always so adorable and you're such an inspiration of mine, not to mention the fact that your "do this, not that" videos are a freaking life-saver. Thank you so much for this video and every other one, you're an incredible inspiration to me and I hope you never stop drawing.

    I just tried the one @ 7:31 and OMG IT'S SO MUCH EASIER! I used to just, "okay the lights sorta over there... just shade where something overlaps... every part has shading now..." But I used that, because the piece I'm working on has someone in the woods with a cigarette. So the majority of the light is coming from the cigarette, now I'm just going farther and adding shadows to help further the dimensions. So I have the light areas, the "mid/normal" area, and the shadows. This was so much easier. You are a blessing, and saved my sanity

In your "Do This Not That" videos you often talk about amateur mistakes that you used to make, but because I've been watching your videos I have been spared from making these mistakes. I often think of giving up, to stop drawing because family doesn't support me or how different the picture I made compared to the one in my head looked, but then, if watch videos like yours I'm reminded that you can improve, and you doing these tutorials just proves that. Thank you, for being such a huge inspiration in my life.
