My truck rips aswell I have a 2011 6.7 cummins . It was always loud but now I have a fleece cheetah and 5inch axle dump and it is super loud we are getting our first snow in Northern AZ today and just went to the store and everyone was asking me if my truck was about to take flight. Ya its super loud and I love it
K this is game changing. My dads 03 cummins takes a month of Sundays to warm up in SK winters, but with this turbo it heats up faster than my 15 hemi. That alone makes it worth it.
OK so I have an 05 truck with a 67 swap running the 05 computer and 03 injector nozzles with 05 injector bodies truck runs great have the VGT turbo wired at about 75% open making about 20 pounds of boost I was getting ready to install the bd VGT controller and read that the vgt controller needs to be timed with the turbo
I have a 2018 coming to diesel and I would like to do a conversion on it. Is that a better idea or is it just better to go to a delete completely delete I want to go to 5 inch exhaust and a banks intake please help me out.
I’d bet that if he got the regular turbo instead of the screamer turbo like I have it would be much better with cruise control. There’s two turbos to pick from, I picked the bigger one. But if he got the normal sized turbo I bet you could use cruise control just fine.
Thanks for the video, I have a 04 cummins with 587,000km on stock engine, tranny and turbo …. Still works great other than turbo should be changed. Do You find good power with it? I had been looking at a stealth 64 turbo until I saw your videos
Best thing i ever did to any of my 6.7s was get rid of the garbage VGTs and install BD Iron Horn kit with exhaust brake. Vgt are restrictive and problematic.
Hey Dude, it's not the time used for warm up it is the cold-crank that worries me. I live in the south west desert and no Sir, we do not have the f'n freezing crap you do. Saying that, I have installed an oil pan heater pad and even though it's warm down here I do plug in both of the pre-warmers (oil & radiator fluid) year around and yes, with over 500 K on the 5.9 l Cummins 12-valve, the oil is still fairly clean for ~1.000 miles after an oil change. The old 12-valve is a keeper for sure and it will last longer than me the way it looks! Take care and try not to freeze your behind off up there with your dip shit Trudo idiot or whatever his name is!
I’m in Saskatchewan so right next to Alberta, but it’s managing just fine. I have no rust on my truck other then a tiny little bit at the bottom of my tailgate. Just wash your truck when it gets covered in salt and it’s all good. I think the rust happens when guys let their vehicles stay dirty for weeks on end.
So do you let your truck completely warm up to operating temp every time? Or do you just wait to a certain degree? Like I try to wait until my engine oil is to about 105° before I drive.
I try to let it warm up to operating temp but sometimes if I’m in a hurry I don’t. But if you are driving your truck with a cold engine that’s fine as long as you drive super gentle
Let it get to 105-110 and get on it. As long as you’re not romping on a cold engine and then shutting it off before it gets up to temp you’re fine. The damage comes from grocery getters that fire up their engines and head right down the road and turn it off before the clock heats up evenly. You don’t have to let it get up to operating temp before driving just make sure it’s at operating temp and ran good before turning off and letting cool.
The sound comes from the vanes being closed which puts a load on the engine to help it warm up quicker. Yeah if your truck is deleted you should be able to get that jet sound with tuning that closes the vanes to warm up truck.
Coking has nothing to do with emissions. Coking is a result of oil being cooked by a hot turbo. This is why you let it run just a bit after a good run before shutting down; oil going through the journals helps carry away some of that heat in the turbo. In extreme situations, oil sitting stagnant on bearings will cook, coke, and your bearings are dead. Emissions and VGT has nothing to do with coking
would you ever sell your truck? i live in calgary and its hard to find decent trucks from time to time and im in school right now but in 2 or 3 years ill be in the market ;)
Haha, everything’s for sale for the right price! I’ve thought about selling it one day when I upgrade it. If I can afford to keep it and have two trucks that’s what I’d do though. Would be nice to drive this truck around while I build a Sema truck on the side
Exhaust brake coming on during warmup with the high idle is not good for the motor. It'll reach up 700F EGTs when engine is still cold. Best thing is Espar or Wabasto heaters.
@@Sdukes001 then you don't really know 6.0s lol all trucks have their issues n they can all be great trucks. It all comes down to preference. I'm a Ford guy through n through but I have a soft spot for a common rail as well.
Depends on the year of your truck. I think 03-05 don’t have the correct torque converter for the exhaust brake, but there are parts to fix that. Other than that it will work.
That’s remarkable!
My old 5.9 would NEVER heat up at that temp until it had a bit of a load on it.
The one I’m building will totally have a VGT.

The 6.7 feed tubes have better flow and more fuel and they bolt right in no problem.
what headlights are those and do you like them? Also what data logger is that?
You guys know you can hit cruise on when its cold out and itll idle up and warm up quicker. Never had issue with mine warming up.

Good info here, I havn't heard many folks giving an opinion on the VGT retrofit!
Thanks buddy!
Nice video bud tanks
Could you do a video on your remote start system and how well it works with a standard transmission?
Great Video Very informative.... Keep them coming....
That grill is too sick!
2018 G56 RAM 3500 here. Nice VGT mini series! I love the feature in mine! 😃
Subscribed! Good content bro.
Thanks buddy!
I put a 180 stat in my 05 and warms up twice as fast.
That makes no difference 😂

If you have a 2018 diesel it will already have a VGT turbo on the truck from factory. If you have other questions message me on my instagram!
nice truck.. looks good, sounds good.
Thanks buddy
You need to put 6.7 feed tubes in your 5.9
Do you think you could install the exhaust brake without tapping the coolant line so you could engage it at idle at any temp?
Wicked
Where do you get the headlights? I have oem and they need replaced! Thanks...
how do you activate the exhaust brake? and is it truly a plug and play/stand alone set up?
Nice!!
Is there a way to have the cruise control work properly? Thats kind of a deal breaker for me.

@@darkirondiesel awesome thanks for the reply. I guess I could always just run an espar or webasto in the winter as well. Works wonders on my isx.
What kind of headlights are those???
Spyder

What exhaust setup are you running? It sounds awesome…
A 5” straight pipe but that turbo is what’s making the crazy whistling sound

If I bought a pacbrake Exhaust brake would it heat up the same as the VGT?
Yes

Husky liners. Super cheap
Hey dark iron diesel, what is the brand name of your exhaust brake you have on your 5.9?
I have a BD diesel VGT screamer turbo which has a built in exhaust brake. It’s the 5.9 Howler kit, I have a video on it as well.
What exhaust brake do you have?
I have the bd screamer turbo in my truck
Dope grille

What type of exhaust do you have
Can you recommend some REALLY GOOD batteries?

Just wondering. They say the Cummins will far outlive the truck chassis. So how is your truck managing with all the road salt out there in Alberta?
I’m in Saskatchewan so right next to Alberta, but it’s managing just fine. I have no rust on my truck other then a tiny little bit at the bottom of my tailgate. Does the jet sound come the tunes you have? I’ve got a 2017 Cummins and mine doesn’t sound like that in the cold And my is tuned.

no cruise control no deal for me I drive 10-12 sometimes
Your accent sounds like you're from Wisconsin.
Nah Canadian as all hell.
With the VGT are you worried about coking? I know there aren't any emissions on the 5.9 but could it still occur?
What do you mean by coking? Like soot clogging up the vanes?
@@darkirondiesel I think thats what he means. It happened to my 4th gen. But its still emissions intact.
@@Not_Tony thinking less soot with this turbo cause it is adjusting the veins to get turbo performing better.
