They have had these before 2010. But they now come out and say they have them. In 2010 I was driving and had yet to renew my tags and a cop pulled me over because of that. I asked him how he got me because I didn't even see him, he was sitting in a parking lot with his lights off and he said the scanner got me.

Fun? Fact: all those Ring doorbells and cloud based "Private" Security Cameras you have around your house that are "conveniently" connected to the Internet so you can look at what's going on while you're away... ARE EASILY ACCESSED WITHOUT A WARRANT by the Police. In Florida about a year ago, they had an Amber Alert, and the were able to track (WITHOUT A WARRANT) the movements of the teenager in question USING the Doorbell and Security Cameras FROM EVERYONE IN FLORIDA. The State LEO (FDLE) admitted it on an interview, bragging at how they managed to find their runaway so fast... BIG BROTHER isn't "Coming" to America, BIG BROTHER IS HERE!
For genuine criminal enforcement such as tracking kidnappers and other felons this is a wonderful technology. That must be the end of it. There is no reason whatsoever why the police or any private entity for that matter should have the ability to use LPRs to randomly track people in their daily activities. Those private entities that insist in engaging in any form of surveillance should be treated and punished as stalkers. Repo services can obtain court orders and have the police arrest those who refuse to turn in unpaid vehicles after being found guilty.
the main reason for this, besides a growing police state, is to get $$$ from expired and suspended reg and licenses. that is the main reason. keep the money flowing and affecting lives.
This is also a gateway to a more sophisticated system of control. That was 5-12 years ago implemented. Wasn't very publisized. Now, that data is being set up as behavioral credit score. One thing always leads to another. What happened to the good old days........gone, gone, gone.
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety. So now if I commit a crime I simply swap plates with a car or truck that looks similar to mine and go about my merry way while the guy with my tagged plates get's pulled over and has a felony stop performed on him.
No! It won't work like that your car gets recorded in the area with the old plates, then the new plates, then the old plates. Then the arrest. These camera systems will be everywhere, including other cars, red lights, stop signs, bumps in the road.
yup this is just the start for sure. supercomputers track all online and phone activities. cops love their gadgets. they even manually check cars at stop lights. always looking and we are all considered suspects. Pennsylvania-----if your insurance runs out or is cancelled for over 30 days its instant 3 months suspension. so bye bye to any job you have. luckily my job is temporary and i'm not paying rent. now i might have to work at a nearby company and walk there. damn i hate this state. nothing good about it so far. i can only blame myself of course, i know that. but what a harsh sentence compared to other states.
The road you're driving on and the plate on your car both belong to the state so they can do as they please. They need to keep track of anyone who's on home arrest, pedophiles, out on bond along with everything they now use them for now. I would like to see them offer this tech to homeowners and place them on privet property overlooking streets. Every large city in the US should have them at every intersection, bridge and tunnel.
Wtf so anyone can access these records and they can then use these records to stalk you? Why are they made public at all? Data should stay within the police dept. Stop obtaining and releasing our personal information.
It's the same thing as being able to video someone in public. When you are driving your car - or your car is sitting in a parking lot - you have no expectation of privacy. Just because the police is scanning license plates, it still doesn't give them probable cause to search your vehicle unless you reported it stolen or used it to commit a crime. If you own a car, and have a warrant for your arrest, these license plate readers are another way of bringing those people to answer for their crimes. I have no complaints about it.
@@carlsutherland3730 that line has said been said every year since the dawn of civilization and each year it evolves. What you determined to be a police state might not be what somebody else determines to be a police state. If you define police state as total authoritarianism, yes you would be correct. If you define police state as all crime eradicated, you could also be correct. A police state does not necessarily mean a bad thing.
@@codybrucewilliams I am glad you took the time to respond to me. My biggest problem with a police state is it will go bad. Period! Not maybe. Not likely, but it will. It's to much power. Just a matter of time. To much evidence collection without even a crime. It's why you are given constitutional rights, to stop this kind of stuff.
Its not a small inconvenience. Its overstepping there boundaries, we the people didn't agree with. Do your jobs I don't care what excuses government makes pictures as well & they get mad when the people record.
These LPR's are a GREAT tool for Law Enforcement agencies and EVERY patrol car should be equipped with them! There is no invasion of "privacy". Police are not using this technology to spy on innocent people! They're not at all interested in that! If you're not doing anything wrong you have nothing to worry about!

You have no right to privacy when you are out in public and nobody is "stalking" you.
I think you're over estimating your charm. Nobody wants you, bozo. You break the law and bring that attention to yourself expect trouble.
Violation of the 4th amendment.

The very same way the news did a request to retrieve Information, so can a wife beater who's looking for the woman who left him.
This is how people get DUIs.. They gather information and wait.
It will only be tolerated for awhile.... and then it won't.
Yes but do they work at nighttime?
Yes all weather and dark
Someone will invent a license plate readers jammer one day😤😤
There is already products out there.
Someone will illegalize it.
Interference with a cop and his duties.
