Texas Flood at El Mocambo will probably get blocked. Most people who have had it blocked and appeal get it unblocked. It's 100% worth the hassle. If you're gonna do more SRV reactions Texas Flood at El Mocambo is an absolute must.
SRV, one of the greatest ever. Such pure God-given talent. Don't miss his live performance of Texas Flood at El Mocambo and also his live performance of Life Without You!
I’m only 20 but grew up in Houston playing in a blues rock band playing shows at Rockefeller’s and Numbers Nightclub when I was in high school. I’m immensely jealous haha and i’m sure your kids are as well!
If you like this then any live performance from the Live at The El Mocambo 1983 concert is a must for review. Stevie was on fire and his virtuosity just shines through. He was channeling and just killed it. IMHO it's the greatest live blues/rock performance ever recorded. Can you say Texas Flood? Just check it out. You will not be disappointed and be amazed.
You just can't beat SRV! Yes, "Mary Had A Little Lamb" from this concert is awesome! Not only SRV on guitar, but Reese Wynans play an awesome keyboard spot as well. Only SRV could make "Mary Had A Little Lamb" into a big hit! You have me hooked with SRV reactions. He's my GOAT of all GOATS. Thank you for checking him out. There are many more SRV songs to react to. Just look at the comments. They've all been mentioned.
Being from Austin I've got to tell you that Austin City limits is a weekly show , showcasing different performers, and it's done inside a studio in downtown Austin. This show is shown all over the world. I was fortunate enough to see Stevie just a couple of months before his passing. We miss you SRV.
I'm 60 and was lucky enough to see him. He went to Jimi's family to ask if it was ok to cover this...not only did they give him their blessing...they gave him Jimi's wah-wah pedal to use. Love your channel and the other two blokes.too lol
I saw him in Montreal on the night that the wah-wah pedal was either lost in transit or stolen (same day that SRV’s father died). I believe Stevie may have borrows some of a Frank Marino’s gear/pedal , who was one of the many great bands on the bill that day. SRV and Double Trouble played until around 1:30am
SRV= THE GOAT Yep I said it lol. No matter what other great guitarist you hear, there will never be another SRV. No one else could ever capture that feeling you get when you watch him play. What a master! RIP Stevie. We miss you 😢
"Voodoo Chile" is the slow blues on the first side of Electric Ladyland, with a young Steve Winwood on organ. The song covered here is called "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and is on side 4 of the album. Stevie Ray was 14 when the Hendrix album came out, and used to tune his guitar down a semi-tone like Hendrix so that he could learn Hendrix songs by playing along with the records. (Otherwise it's too difficult when open strings are used in the original). Like others have said, the video of "Texas Flood" at the El Mocambo (in Toronto) has something special about it.
They recorded Voodoo Chile first and the next day Jimi came in with a totally different version, they put that on tape and decided to keep both but change the title to Voodoo Child (Slight Return), as in a second look. Gov't Mule has a great cover of Voodoo Chile on the Roseland Ballroom album with Jack Casady sitting in on bass like he did on the original version with Jimi.
There are two songs on Jimi's album, Electric Lady Land - one is called Voodoo Chile and the other is called Voodoo Child (Slight Return). This is def 'Child' that SRV is playing here.
Of all the versions that's the one I like the least. No disrespect intended to JC, but it just isn't his style and was holding SRV back. I like the studio version(s) or the Capital Theater version even tho' it is shorter. But that's just my opinion. There's no BAD SRV video. LOL
💙💙💙💙💙…. Stevie Ray Vaughan brought me here… Lovely reaction! Subscribed!! But, hold on sir… when you said you are listening to a lot of Marcus King… I just had to stop & comment right now!! Marcus King is THE MAN!!! I love that kid!! So far, I have seen him live only once… in NYC in 2022!!!🔥🔥🔥 You have a fan for life!! Most reactors don’t even know who Marcus is!!! Kudos!!!😎😎
You nailed it!!!!! There’s a point when your in a band and your jamming and you can feel that moment that everyone is in sink and almost no note feels wrong and it’s pure bliss and it lasts as long as it lasts, could be 40 seconds, could be 5 minutes, but it’s amazing
I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan in concert with The Outlaws in the late '80s. It was really great to see him live. One thing that stood out to me was while in the middle of a guitar solo, he had a brief casual conversation with a stagehand. His ability to keep playing without missing a beat was just incredible. It was such a tragedy when he was killed.
Ash looks like she needs to DANCE!!! Such a G-d tight 3-man group of prodigious musicians!!! Pure bliss; oh! to have been in that crowd that night (same for the El Mocambo "Texas Flood" concert). Bassist, Tommy Shannon, put in some of his early years with Johnny Winters bands -- another fantastic guitarist from Texas like SRV. Chris Layton artistically beating the "skins and tins." Catch "Look at Little Sister" showcases a later personnel addition, keyboardist extraordinaire Reese Wynans.
“Tightrope” has always been my favorite SRV song but every song he played is amazing. Cheers from Texas. The birthplace of many blues and rock legends!🇨🇱🤘🏻😎
Austin City Limits concerts are legendary! So many greats have been on that stage over the decades. SRV is a Texas legend and I grew up listening to SRV and Double Trouble. Even our grocery stores play his songs and everyone starts boppin’ down the dairy aisle. Lol
Stevie Ray is the king of cool...he had his own look. Every time I saw him play he looked so damn good! I got to see him play as a teen at a yearly music fest they used to have in Austin (Austin Aqua Festival) and damn did I think he was the coolest guy Id ever seen! And his guitar! "Number One" 1959 Fender Stratocaster is a musical artifact! Its on display in the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin. He used the fattest strings he could because of the way he played them so hard.....if you didnt, watch his finger work, he bends those strings half way across the fret board. SRV usually gets the credit for the band....Like Dimebag does for Pantera, but SRVs band is Friggin awesome. That bass player was jamming out on those lines, the drummer awesome. Keep listening, theyve an amazing keyboard player. Austin City Limits....cant believe you havent heard of it, Ive met people from all over the world that grew up listening to it. Ive a friends from Japan and Thailand that both first heard him on ACL as a kid and from then on he wanted to move to Austin and play guitar....which they do. Austin City Limits is a music venue and a show thats been on Public broadcast tv in Austin since the late 70s. Since its beginnings, TV networks around the world broadcast it Today, there are other music festivals, like the ACL fest where theres a week of big name performer from all over the world. Theres also a ACL film fest and some sort of media fest as well. It brings millions of people from all over every year. Im from Austin and grew up watching Austin City Limits back when there were 4 TV stations, and it always had great performances.....it still does. There was an episode with Willie Nelson filmed on my Grandfathers ranch where he got to bring his favorite bull, Big Red on the set for background. He was so proud that he got to get Big Red and his giant read balls on TV. I dont recall any metal on ACL, but its recognized as an important part of american music culture, and has been a big part of what used to make Austin a cool place to be....and music videos? Long before MTV, which it was eventually on. Not sure if Dave will like much of the music, but I bet the lady would find things shed like. I credit ACL for one of the ways I was exposed to different music from a young age. Cheers to the show....and the two of you. austincitylimits.com/
Hey, Ash & Dave. Thank you for reacting to this. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were my favorite group in the 1980s. Will keep my eye out for your Tin Pan Alley reaction. First, loved Ash’s look of unabashed joy. Dave is harder to read, like me. I appear pissed-off most of the time. Think he enjoyed, though. Ash mentioned the venue. That’s just a backdrop in a tv studio. Austin City Limits is a music show on Public Television here in the States. This was their second appearance, after they’d “cleaned up.” You seemed amazed that Stevie could perform a passable cover of a Jimi Hendrix tune. Believe me, it was no trouble for him as he was a true master. There’s a video of him covering Jimi’s “Little Wing” as well. Jimi was a true innovator for his time and one of my favorites also, but many can cover him now. Btw, Stevie used to dress more like Jimi as well! I’ll echo others’ sentiments: anything from their earlier show from the El Mocambo Lounge in Canada is a must watch. Also, Stevie’s brother, Jimmie (who gained fame with The Fabulous Thunderbirds), plays a song with Stevie called “Pipeline” on a video you should definitely check out. I also love that Dave appreciates Marcus King. I know he’s also seen Billy Strings. If he wants to really check out a couple of “jam” bands that are really tight: give a gander to Tedeschi-Trucks Band, or Blackberry Smoke. Think you may appreciate them & the latter will be in Manchester this September 12. Cheers!
@Acidburn9691No. Stevie asked for a seat because he didn’t want to wait. It was his time to go, sadly. He spoke of knowing that he’d been given a second chance at life, and that he was living on borrowed time. I’d spoken to him just 6 weeks before. He was such a beautiful soul here on Earth❤ sand and Angel now.
@Acidburn9691Post could have been phrased differently. I'm sure EC did not "set up" SRV in the Mafia-sense of the phrase. "Inadvertently" or "by chance" could have been used. Yeah, go ahead, rag on me as a grammar police, but clear communication is something all should strive for.
That was for the Austin City Limits TV show in a sound studio. I was at that show. It was awesome. SRV is the absolute master of the fretboard and father of the Texas Blues sound. There is a life sized statue of him in Austin next to the lake,
Wow that is awesome. I have watched this version of Voodoo Child I'd guess 1,000 times and always wondered what it would've been like to see live. Stevie is one of the best ever. That is freakin incredible you got to see/hear it live.
One of SRV's most powerful & artful performances. Disappointed that this couple didn't seem to fully appreciate the tremendous power and DEEP soul that SRV and his trio conveyed throughout this piece.
Regarding the venue, "Austin City Limits" is a T.V. show recorded at an indoor concert theater in Austin, Texas (that's a faux background of Austin behind the musicians). Regarding Stevie, he was, to many of us, simply the greatest to ever pick up a guitar. This performance was in his third year of sobriety, free from cocaine and alcohol. Also, he was nearly as sweet and humble of a man as he was an incredible guitar player. Thanks for posting, you guys!
Stevie got Jimi's wah-wah pedal from Jimi's family and as I recall, used it during this performance. If you notice his vibrato bar was installed inverted... if I remember correctly, that was Jimi's as well.
SRV is my all time favorite!!! I’m so glad y’all reacted to him. Please keep his videos coming!!! Yes Tin Pan Alley featuring Johnny Copeland is the absolute best version!!!
Hey guys, first time watching you? Yes, he was on there a couple times or some city limits. It was a good show that a lot of good bands on. I actually wore a couple of shows with stevie ray as a stage hand
I was just watching today the performance of No Quarter by Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in 1979 and marveling at how tight their jam was still….It was quite marvelous to watch.
SRV was widely considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. You need to react to SRV performing Texas Flood at El Mocambo mesmerizing performance. RIP SRV
Should check out "Couldn't Stand The Weather" Capitol Theater, 1985..In all his swaggering best..And don't sleep on the keys..The guy is a magician!..Outstanding performance!
Thank you for this beautiful reaction. I can’t wait to see more of your reactions to Stevie. I was blessed to have spent precious time with him, and I can tell you that he was as kind, gentle and humble as he was talented. I love “Tin Pan Alley” as well. There are so many amazing performances of this song. Which were you listening to? If you haven’t heard the version guest starring Johnny Copeland, check it out! FIRE. ua-cam.com/video/AGPx-ekqZEo/v-deo.htmlsi=3uT7AQPBW_AiRjmR “Mary Had a Little Lamb” is incredible as well. ua-cam.com/video/WWU6hpPJG_c/v-deo.htmlsi=WowJd8uO8u3XHb8m
Often imitated, never duplicated! Stevie Ray was one of those rare talents that only come along once in a lifetime and if you blink, you could miss it if you aren't paying attention. George Thorogood said it best... "Leave this one alone 'cause he's bad to the bone!" Never saw him live but that's unfortunate for me. This is what creativity and talent really looks like in the real world of music. There are others, to be sure but this guy was the real deal! In your face, out front and LOUD! I miss music like this!
It was part of PBS, it was a regular venue that they would have on I think every month or so with different Acts. I remember seeing that on TV man it was amazing
Before he did this cover, Stevie asked permission from Jimmy Hendrix father! Jimmy’s father gave Stevie Ray Vaughan, jimmy’s effects box so Stevie could have jimmy’s guitar sound!
Idk what this may mean to you? But if you play. You ll get it- he does most of his work with 13 gauge strings!! FRIGGIN CABLES! and to bend them like hr does. Just amazing .. watch his left hand.. WOW!!
That was Austin City Limits in Austin Texas.Austin was the jewel of Texas and the greatest music center for, blues, rock, country many decades and still is.
The first time I saw SRV was at the Rome Inn when I was living in Austin in the late 70s before he got famous. The next time was at Antones on Guadeloupe in Austin when he first started doing Hendrix. The next and last time was in Dallas in the late 80s when he was playing with Jeff Beck.
Don't have time to read through all the comments so i may be redundant. There's a small army of SRV devotees out there. (me being one of them) "Austin City Limits is a venue setup for TV broadcast. Voodoo "Child" or "Chile" refer to the same song. Best way to react to him is live videos vs. albums because you can better see his passion, showmanship and guitar skills. If looking for his own songs I'd start with "Life Without You" (Capitol Theater), "Couldn't Stand the Weather", (also Austin). If you like jazz "Riviera Paradise" ". "Texas Flood" (Macambo) is also excellent though it's a cover. Good reaction.
Austin City Limits was a low budget weekly TV show where A LOT of blues. country, rock and metal bands got their start! Even though it was a low production TV venue it launched a lot of careers in the music industry, at one point it was an honor to play ACL!
I saw SRV 8 times in concert. When he died (helicopter, not plane) I was so sad. I realized a few years back I went from loving him to never listening and I think I was just was in mourning. He was a great musician.
If y'all ever make a trip to here in Austin Texas, take a trip to downtown by the river (Town Lake), there we have a statue of our beloved Texan Stevie Ray. The statue is him standing and his shadow is him jamming out.
Austin City Limits is a TV music show that has been on American public television for decades. That venue is inside a studio, I believe. It's definitely not outdoors.
If you haven't done "TEXAS FLOOD" live at el macombo, it's amazing!!!
Absolutely. If they thought Stevie was good here, they have to see that performance.
Texas Flood!!!
took the words right out of my fingers lol
Without a doubt. Live, Texas Flood. Nuff'said.
Texas Flood at El Mocambo will probably get blocked. Most people who have had it blocked and appeal get it unblocked. It's 100% worth the hassle. If you're gonna do more SRV reactions Texas Flood at El Mocambo is an absolute must.

Stevie Ray Vaughan
Texas Flood Live at the El Macombo
I am 60 years old and I saw Stevie Ray in concert in Houston Tx on his Texas Flood tour. Eric Johnson opened for him. It was an incredible concert.
I’m only 20 but grew up in Houston playing in a blues rock band playing shows at Rockefeller’s and Numbers Nightclub when I was in high school. I’m immensely jealous haha and i’m sure your kids are as well!
I saw him in Perth Western Australia in the mid 80's....
Fabulous Thunderbirds supported....
Best concert in my life....
No one has bested it
Summit or Houston Music Hall?

Texas Flood live at the El Macambo by SRV and Double Trouble is impossible to forget 🔥
Austin City Limits is a long-running TV show in the U.S. that is taped in Austin, Texas. featured a variety of artists.
Texas Flood live at the El Mocambo is must see!!
That's an epic performance, really shows how good he was. R.I.P Stevie ❤
The GOAT OF GOATS! That’s other worldly! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 And it’s his Band Double Trouble…one of the best bottoms around! He is the Electric Blues!

Stevie Ray Vaughan is the G.O.A.T of the Guitar !!! 🤘🎸🔥🇺🇸💯...
It's VooDoo "Chile", like my southern grandma says!!!
There are two songs on Jimi's album, Electric Lady Land - one is called Voodoo Chile and the other is called Voodoo Child (Slight Return). This is def 'Child' that SRV is playing here.
Great reaction! Ash was all smiles the whole way through! Y’all have to check out “Texas Flood “ live. It’s even better than this, and this is great!
Stevie Ray, Tin Pan Alley live with Johnny Copeland is mesmerizing!
Of all the versions that's the one I like the least. No disrespect intended to JC, but it just isn't his style and was holding SRV back. I like the studio version(s) or the Capital Theater version even tho' it is shorter. But that's just my opinion. There's no BAD SRV video. LOL

Eric Clapton gave Stevie his seat on the Helicopter at Alpine Valley so he could get home, it crashed and a legend was lost.

Welcome to the world of SRV.... That smile on her face the ENTIRE song! 😊
I Love SRV! Anything and Everything he did was fire!
Regarding the venue, "Austin City Limits" is a T.V. show recorded at an indoor concert theater in Austin, Texas (that's a faux background of Austin behind the musicians). It's also been on PBS for 40 years. SRV has influenced many great guitarists and so many artists.
BB King once said that most guitarist play (if in language) one sentence, SVR played a paragraph. He has never seen anyone else play like that.
Stevie got Jimi's wah-wah pedal from Jimi's family and as I recall, used it during this performance. If you notice his vibrato bar was installed inverted... if I remember correctly, that was Jimi's as well.
You two as a couple is quite amazing. Keep the faith in humanity.
SRV and Double Trouble were soooooooooo tight! Where ever Stevie wanted to go, Double Trouble could follow.

SRV was widely considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. You need to react to SRV performing Texas Flood at El Mocambo mesmerizing performance. RIP SRV
'Was"? Nah bruh, IS the greatest Guitarist of All Time. Great comment (like) and we totally agree OFC. RIP Stevie.
Tin Pan Alley, Crossfire, Pride and Joy, Look at Little Sister, and so many more. He is definitely worth listening to.
If I'm not mistaken, SRV is using Jimi Hendrix's effects pedal in this performance, that was loaned to him by Jimi's family.
The pedal was given to Jimmy, Stevies brother originally and the Stevie used it. He had mad respect for Jimi and the old blues masters.
FIRE.

SRV was the GOAT.....
My favourite guitarist of all time....
SRV is the best!!! RIP To the legend
Nice reaction folks, Stevie is a GOAT, ya got to do Texas Flood
It was part of PBS, it was a regular venue that they would have on I think every month or so with different Acts.
I remember seeing that on TV man it was amazing
Edward Van Halen ' Live without a net ' guitar solo ' ....Out of this world
Before he did this cover, Stevie asked permission from Jimmy Hendrix father! Jimmy’s father gave Stevie Ray Vaughan, jimmy’s effects box so Stevie could have jimmy’s guitar sound!
Stevie Ray was one of our American golden Childs. When you make love to your lover Stevie does to his guitar, rip Stevie gone but not forgotten
Check out Texas Flood Live at El Macombo
Idk what this may mean to you? But if you play. You ll get it- he does most of his work with 13 gauge strings!! FRIGGIN CABLES! and to bend them like hr does. Just amazing .. watch his left hand.. WOW!!
love you guys from the U.S.!
And that drummer!
Actual original name on the "Electric Ladyland" album by Hendrix is "Voodoo Chile Slight Return".
Almost, but not quite.
On Electric Ladyland track 4 on Side A is Voodoo Chile. Track 4 on Side D is Voodoo Child Slight Return.
The GOAT.....
SRV
The beret wearing bass player is Tommy Shannon who got his start playing in Johnny Winter's band.
His bass player played with Johnny Winter.
The Pride of Dallas, Texas. RIP SRV
That was Austin City Limits in Austin Texas.Austin was the jewel of Texas and the greatest music center for, blues, rock, country many decades and still is.
A couple of good ones from this same show. Mary had a little lamb, and look at little sister. Good stuff
I enjoyed watching your reaction Ash! You really seem to be loving the guitar work by SRV.
Watching Stevie Ray Vaughan is like watching two trains that are about ready to crash he just can’t look away
Lady's reaction says it all.
The G.O.A.T
He plays on 14 gauge strings !!! An absolute BEAST
There's a video of SRV playing this song for the MDA Telethon where he plays a good chunk of it behind his back...
These type of venues are delicious. Saw Stevie in Austin decades ago in Tejas. And ZZ Top😊
ASHE feeling the GROOVE 😎
