Stevie was a really kind and caring man at the same time, my grandma used to watch Stevie and his brother Jimmy whenever they were younger and whenever he got famous we went to a show and he reconnected with her and sent her a check in the mail one day to pay off her house. What a great soul he was.

Side note: the "wah-wah" pedal he was steppin on in the beginning of the song was given to him by Jimi Hendrix's family, and that very pedal was the one Hendrix used on stage...true story...SVR is the G.O.A.T....
I didn't know that.
It is Jimi's wah, but he got it from his brother, Jimmie, who opened for Jimi as a teen with Chessmen, I believe. Jimi broke his, borrowed Jimmie's, broke that one. Gave him another and some cash.
Jimmie speaks of it often in interviews and it is included in Stevie's biographies.
Nice. When I saw Stevie in the '80s, I figured his renditions of Voodoo Child and Little Wing were as close as I was going to get to seeing Hendrix live, since obviously, Jimi was already gone. But a little closer still if some of those notes were passing through Jimi's wah pedal on the way to the amplifier and my ears!
He is the GOAT but how hard is it to get his initials in the correct order?

I am 62 years old and was blessed to see SRV two times live. Words can't begin to explain how good he was.
I saw him live 4 times, smallish clubs where I was up close... maybe 10 to 15 feet away. He was truly transported into his music, taking us along for an incredible ride. He died much too young.

61 and saw SRV with Jeff Beck in Austin 1989...... Best Concert Ever 8 months later He was gone. Great Concert Sad Ending
Had tickets to see him in1990 but, sadly, his helicopter went down a month before the show. 😪 was one of the saddest days of my life.

With only a base player and drummer to back him he is left to play both rhythm and lead guitar. Often both at the same time. Incredible.
I saw one of Stevie's last performances and I can say without flinching that there was no recording device in existence that could capture how smoothly he played. The notes just flowed one into the next like nothing I had ever heard before.
So a tragic loss when he died. He was from my neighborhood. Met him a few times. Phenomenal guitar player. Glad you guys listened to him.
I grew up in Oak Cliff as well, Cedar Hill and Davis. A couple of blocks from Kid Springs.

I saw Stevie Ray in concert a couple of months before he died. He did his show and then did a 45 minute encore. It was epic!
I saw him in Austin 5 months before he died in a helicopter crash. He and Jeff Beck put on a helluva show!! His 45 minute encore was beyond epic!!

He didn't like being compared to Hendrix, saying in an interview once, "there will only be one Hendrix, and that he simply did his best to play like him." Yes, he is!!! He's right up there along with Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Jimmy Page, Yngwie Malmsteen, Angus Young, and it's so many others!!! Those were just to name a few!!!

Texas blues at its finest gentlemen. Still can't believe he's gone. He always said that Hendrix was one of his biggest influences and performed this song often, and it was always different.
Yea, Stevie and Hendricks sort of had similar personalities. The were kind of shy, humble, and good hearted until they picked their guitars.
That's the ultimate lesson of Hendrix. Improvisation. In the moment raw expression. Can't imitate them because it came straight from the soul.

You gentleman just watched one the BEST guitar players to EVER walk the face of the earth. He was self taught but idolized Jimmy Hendrix. He played with the likes of B.B. King and other blues greats. Unfortunately we lost him very young. But man watching him play today still gives me goosebumps. Good choice gents!💯
My son heard him so often in utero that as an infant he would calm down to listen to the sky is crying. Mary had a little lamb was never spoken but sung. SRV was a special gift.

It's hard to say who the greatest guitar player is, because of all the genres, styles and artistry across the generations. It's like saying who's the greatest Basketball player of all time - different positions, eras etc. But in this case I 100% agree with you. Stevie combined something very unique, perfect technical chops combined with a fierce musicality that flowed from his soul directly to his hands. Everything was effortless with Stevie. No gimmicks, just a real voice in every note. He was on another celestial plane from everyone else.

You ain't seen nothin' yet, til you see SRV play with his teeth, behind his back or under his leg. I had the privilege of seeing him a year before he died at the University of Tennessee old Alumni Gym. OMG best venue and awesome concert with 3 encores!! LOVE me some Stevie Ray for sure. Jimi Hendrix wrote this song back in the late 60’s or early 70. Stevie Ray is playing a cover of it, in style! This video was filmed at the Jazz Festival in Switzerland! He brought the house down!

Stevie Ray is a legend. This genre is considered blues rock. He's got many songs , Texas Flood.. a famous song and also Caught in the Crossfire. There's not too many as good as him, but Jimmi Hendrix,BB King and Chuck Berry heavily influenced Stevie

Srv is a texas blues legend. He helped revitalize blues in the 80's. Srv was inspired by Hendrix (amongst other blues legends), they never got to play together, but Stevie covered a lot of his songs and made them his own. He died in a helicopter crash, after a concert in Alpine Valley, Colorado. You guys should check out his live version of "Ain't Gonna Give up on Love". I think there is a show he did in NJ after he got sober. It is so powerful it brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Keep up the great work!
Stevie Ray crosses back and forth between Blues and Rock to the point he's pretty much his own genre. All the kings of blues guitar pay him respect and he was friends with most of the best. He's one of those guys that were so good at something you knew God would take him early.
We call it Texas contemporary blues.

little fact stevie passed away in a helicopter crash, my father my uncle, and a few of my dads friends got to see him at his last concert which in fact was at alpine valley music theatre, you guys checking him out brought back good memories, and you guys appreciating his talent and music was so awesome to see! not many of our generation, i'm 37 btw, appreciate that talent now a days so it's awesome to see his music living on for our generation.

Thanks so much for appreciating one of the best blues guitarists of all time, he would go into black clubs when he was very very young and b.b. King brought him up on stage. And as they say the rest is history, he and b.b. King play together many many times over the years and became great friends.
Man I remember leaving his concert and he played for about 2 hours and my ass was worn out from nonstop jammin. I was 3rd row and he broke a string mid song and a verse later he held a note for about 20 seconds while switching guitars and then continued killin it…..
That was an awesome performance he didn't skip a single beat

That the concert where they recorded the break and swap over? Apparently breakages weren't uncommon because of the tension he used on the heavier strings he preferred to use.

I love what you do. I have noticed that some of the music you hear are actually remakes and, while good music is always good music, it might be cool to watch the original and then the remake and give thoughts.
Also, how about some bluegrass? Look up Earl Scruggs and Lester Flat, Roy Clark, and Glenn Campbell. Excellent banjo and guitars.

Guys.. this man is the GOAT.. a technical guitar master that owned his craft.. he's uncompareable.. Jimi Hendix's family gave him Jimi's wah pedal.
That's not true. Stevie's brother Jimmie, was playing a gig with Hendrix and Hendrix's pedal broke and Jimmie Vaughan gave Hendrix his pedal and took Hendrix's broken pedal home (plus $50) and gave the pedal to Stevie.
And yes, SRV is the GOAT.

Saw him right before his death. He wore a purple satin suit with a huge purple feather in his hat. One of the most talented GOATs. It was a spiritual experience for sure.

Stevie Ray will always be my favorite guitarist. He is simply the best. Texas flood from live at the El Macombo is literally the greatest guitar playing ever filmed. Ever. The dude literally plays a face shredding, mind blowing solo, behind his God damn back! He is the greatest live musician to have ever done it. BB King has played with him, and this is what he said: " I've always said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray missed on both counts, but I've never noticed, and neither did he!" You should also check out "tin pan alley", played with Johnny Copeland. Literally the greatest blues rock guitarist of all time.

Can't say anything about Stevie that hasn't been said already. But would like to give a nod to his band. They often get overlooked , but they were a crucial part of what let Stevie be Stevie. They are straight up rock solid killers . Stevie pretty much never did the same thing twice , a lot of improv and they could follow him wherever he went , on the fly , and still hold it all together. And these Cats played this hard during SOUNDCHECK! You can look it up. All in, all the time.

He’s considered one of the best if not the best guitarist of all-time. Jimi Handrix was Stevie’s favorite musician. Crazy part is nobody ever taught Stevie how to play. He was 110% self taught. He has many, many songs that were hits on the radio.

I love that and I would not doubt it lol it is a crying shame that he never realized how good he was I remember in an interview Tommy saying that the whole time they was together he only heard Stevie say once that wow that sounded good about his own playing and he sounded surprised he sounded good . A lot of people here may know this. He played guitar on David Bowie's Let's Dance album. David asked him to stay on for the tour, he declined as he wanted to make his own way. Just an amazing artist.

Went down a rabbit hole and ended up here. Great job. I’ve seen so many live shows, and SRV live was hands down the best. I was a super fan and caught his show 3 months before he died. What a loss - I was so lucky to have been there. A true guitar legend. Check out “One Way Out” live at the Fillmore by the Allman Brothers. Your heads will explode.

Man played so well, most people never even realised how good his voice was. And fellers, it pains me to say this to you but this is Blues. Buddy Guy, BB King and even John Lee Hooker all thought he was amazing, though HE worshipped THEM. There's a great in instrumental he did called "SayWHAT?" that he did for a sound check that's worth a look. If you want to see a seriously amazing guitar player though, look up my countryman Tommy Emmanuel playing Classical Gas.
