Finding new ways to utilize materials that might otherwise be scrap metal is a fun challenge. This Angle Iron container is one such example.

Whimsical piece. The asthetic reminds me of the Tim Burton movie Nightmare before Christmas. Thanks for the great work in an otherwise dreary year John.
.
You're one of those men that make us wish we meet earlier
So after the cutoff disc intermission, I have to tell you, my Dad put me on to the fact that Diablo makes some kind of fancy magical mystery material impregnated into a metal cutoff disc that lasts *waaaaay* longer than the traditional ones. He picked one up after using up a whole pack of discs cutting bolts off replacing a 30’ gooseneck trailer floor, and proceeded to use it to cut the remaining 2/3rds of the bolts, and has had it ever since. It still cuts like a hot knife thru butter. I’m picking one up for my collection as soon as I get back to town.
Do you have the part number?
Now I get cutting blades on ebay in the 50 pkt.,but sometimes do run out
@@ironhead65 Item #DDD045DIA101F
I bought some Diablo discs and never looked back! They’re the best and longest lasting discs I’ve ever used!
Diamond coated blades suck. Technique is important when using cut off wheels so they last longer
I love this. It would be a great lead in project for some lanterns. yes, that is a hint. I would love to see how you would go about making some lanterns.
Great idea!
Nice project, using old scrap steel and turning it into a very pleasing container. Appreciate the idea of repurposing old materials.
Glad you enjoyed it

Best blacksmith channel!!
always fun when you get more glue on your hands than on the project 😄
Hello from Sweden John, always nice to see you in your workshop.
John, you are an incredible man and blacksmith! Thank you, for what you do and for sharing your skills and knowledge.
I appreciate that!
So that's what a trip to the store looks like. Very informative 😂
This is a great gift idea, I will make a tall and a short artist paintbrush holders.
That will be cherished for generations. Nice work great video
Nice work! I enjoyed watching you make this piece and many of your other videos.
I am a blacksmith in B.C. Canada, I have been at it since 2002.
These videos are something else, my life is very stressful lately and they are one of the few things that actually calm me down. Thanks for keep on making them and congratulations on your skills once again!
I am glad you find them helpful.

Once again John shows his skills and creativity to turn his imagination into reality..Although it's a pretty heavy duty desk top item he shows us a great deal of techiniques how to create good looking items from some simple bits of steel off cuts and end up with an item to be proud of and that someone would surely cherish for years to come. May I say a big Thank You Mr Switzer for your time and efforts to teach us would be novic smiths (newby's) out here across the entire Globe. I have learned so much from you sir. Your a guiding Star. Thank You again I'm enjoying my learing curve as a hobby smith and you give me and no doubt others so much inspiration. To be quite honest your one of the reasons I started my humble smithing.
Your work never ceases to impress! Thanks so much for sharing!
A discovery of shape. Thank you.
Container look awesome. Never thought angle iron can be used like dis. Banding added to its beauty.leather base was cool.Superb work. Enjoyed a lot👍👍💥💥🔥🔥
Before you put the bottom on it, I was looking at the piece and wondering if it wouldn't ring like a bell - that might be an interesting way to make a bell, maybe.
Turn out beautiful
Thanks for inspiring us ( made.in USA 🇺🇸
Happy holidays, John. Peace to you and your family. Thanks for another year of fun and educational videos.
Happy Holidays
Cute container, I hope you enjoyed making it.
What a great little project! Thanks so much for sharing that with us. Love the channel as always
Very nice project, John! Thanks for another good gift idea! Merry Christmas, From our house to yours!🎄🎀
Merry Christmas
It doesn't always go as planned. Hard work pays off in the end. Very unique design there. It ends up turning out to be very beautiful an quite elagent looking. Can't wait to see more videos soon John. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work John. Forge On. Keep Making. God bless.
Always good to store your pencils and candy canes in a container that is resistant to fire from a 22lr. Pretty too!
That is a very nice design John, the leather on the bottom was a nice touch as well.
This is a great project idea. I was wondering how you were going to create the base out of the angle iron.
This piece turned out beautifully. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones and blessings to you all in the coming year.
Very nice container with a touch of class.
Ok, now I have to make one. Great video as always John...
Oh hell yea !!! I love you man , what a thing !!!
Hallo John that is so cool! It's a good idea for Christmas! Thanks for the good Videos! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Merry Christmas
Very nice one John , Looks very vintage . :)
Looks like it would almost make a bell of some kind. I like it!
I think so. I should have tested the ring
Anyone else hear Jingle Bells in his hammer taps? 🤣🤣 Well done!!
Great use of "stuff" laying around the shop. Think I'll make a mini version! Thanks for the inspiration John.
I have to say, it's refreshing to see you fumble and struggle a bit, trying to make the hoops fit around the anvil, or it not fitting into the forge. It seems like I spend half of my time hammering, and the other half looking for the hammer I just had in my hand, or trying to get the steel in the right spot while it cools off way too fast. You always make everything look super easy and efficient, like you've practiced making 100 of everything before filming it. Its nice to see someone else having the same kind of moments.
Also, every time I think I have a lot of random stuff lying around, you go and pull out something like a 4 foot tall metal cone and start hammering on it. Where on earth did that thing come from? Some sort of forming mandrel, or a random scrap yard find?
The cone is a blacksmiths cone mandrel. Mine is actually a smaller one. I found a big one once and thought I would sell this one, but I sold the bigger one instead. They are out there in the used market and I think I have even seen a few new ones still being made.
Nice job John, I really like the look of that. A suitably robust holder for a blacksmiths desk!
Lovely! Thanks John!
There are a lot of differences between your work and mine, however one that is notable is I need to make the trip to get the grinder, I have plenty of cut off discs.
Super nice job on that piece John . And the photography lessons are clearly paying off , everything looked wonderful . I want to wish you and yours A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS this holiday season. I'm looking forward to your next project.
Merry Christmas
Hello John

Yours Frank Galetzka
Merry Christmas
Wow John! Quite the last minute idea. That was a really neat project to watch you make. I think it came out great. Never saw anything like it. Merry Christmas to you and your family John I hope it a good one!
Merry Christmas
Great videos, been watching for a while now, and learning few tricks along the way.
Hard to find good detail in videos.
They're Appriciated.
Thank you.
John, that's a simple, very attractive use of angle iron. The bottom border piece with the scroll really adds an artistic touch.
Classic beauty
Really nice, John.
Großartige Idee und exzellent ausgeführt👍👍👍💪💪💪
That looks sweet!
Looks like you sure like that square horn on your new anvil!! Awesome!!! :)
It can be a real game changer
That is Very nice you did a great job as you always do Jhon
Looks great. And thanks for the chuckles along the way.
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Lord bless you all in the coming year.
Merry Christmas
Its amazing what you made out of that left over angle iron. I would have never thought of that.
That had high levels of “fiddle factor “
Awesome and unique 👌
Adapt and over come.😊
You are the Christmas spirit, and humans like you need to be celebrated..Santa man...I'm sure someone needs a pair of strap on ice skates...and there's always someone waiting hopelessly for new skates...may your heart and hearth burn with life giving spirit Always...merry Christmas big bear
Merry Christmas
I tend to buy those thin cut off disxs in boxes of 100 and keep the box beside the grinders and when I get to about 20 left I order more because of that very problem!
Very nice project.
I have to second a lot of similar sentiment in lots of the other comments.. really cool to see some new concepts and ideas of how to use materials coming together. I could maybe see the upper loops being bent down to hold a favorite pen, but i can also see they being very fiddily (sp?) to try and make happen. Thanks again for another great video!
That was an insight into your creative process. Thanks for taking us along.
Happy Holidays To You And The Missus! Thanks again for a great video.
Happy holidays!
Thank you for the video!
Very Nice. Thank you.
Fonished up very nice John, if not welded how about grinding a bevel on the outside of the base cap then peening over the strap to hold it in!
Great video!
Please demonstrate forge brazing sometimes!
Nice little cup! I've made a cow bell in a similarly folding an hourglass shaped plate into the bell and hanging the clapper from a loop at the top
Really like all your content nice job sir!!!
I wonder what kind of steel that angle iron is. It was sparking much like something with a little more carbon than mild
Really cool piece!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from AUT
Merry Christmas
Nicely done 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing
The sparks off that angle iron was really interesting. Looked a lot like it had a lot more carbon than your standard a36 or 1018.
I had that same thought. It was also harder to drill than the mild steel banding
Well you never disappoint John, that is a cool project. Merry Christmas and thanks for another year’s entertainment and (skill share).
Merry Christmas
Nice, great video 😊
In hind sight,
I've seen you dip into water so the process didn't mess with the shape of the angle steel.
But just something I'd picked up watching you Sir.
Interesting project Sir
Thanks
That's a really neat container and a great idea!!
So truly fabulous like it had come from Middle Earth or Westeros & once contained something incredibly special, powerful & mystic. I noticed Jimmy Diresta using blade lube when cutting steel with his angle grinder. I tried bees wax polish as I didn't have any 'proper stuff' & it seems to have improved both longevity & cutting speed of my thin disks, so possibly worth a try. Thanks for sharing!
oh what fun
Very nice.
very cool! thanks for sharing
Merry Christmas to everyone
Merry Christmas
Thanks John.
Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas
Beautiful piece!
Bravissimo molto interessante!!! 👌👌👌
Hi and again a great job bro
It's almost Christmas so, I'm not going to chide you about shopping at Horror Fright... Nice project, loved the rivets around the bottom.
It saved me an hour since that was the first place I come to when I head into town. First time I've been there in years
Did you hand tighten the nut on the angle grinder if so that's not too safe but hopefully you tightened it up love the work as always
Hope you have a merry Christmas John
Merry Christmas
That’s a great looking project John, thanks for sharing with us. Awesome work! 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻
Not a plug for Skill share, but John you videos are always better than the last. Whatever you are doing keep it up. Funny, but when you were making this I kept wondering what it would sound like if you added a clacker to make it a bell?
Very nice piece. Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas

BRILLANT !
Hey John or any other smiths, if you read this I could use some ideas, I managed to find some decorative railing from the 1960’s, the rails that have the simply S scrolls on it. Well, it has 1” square tube stock and some 1” wide U-channel type stock with the sides of the U being 1/4” tall. The “spindles” are just square 1/4” bar stock.
Nice work
Thanks
Unexpectedly running out of cutting discs is the kind of thing that would add a lot more than 90 minutes to my project. Blacksmithing with ADHD is difficult....
