ROUND 2 ANNOUNCED! R2 of the QK65 will launch on 6/10/2022, and will run for two weeks as an UNLIMITED group buy! They’ve updated several parts of the keyboard so you’ll definitely want to check out their R2 Sale info, and the R2 color configurator! All info can be found on the QwertyKeys Discord that can be joined from their website (link in description)
@@ffenixrising I've been really considering picking up another one as well, but I should probably put that money towards different boards to review... What a dilemma T.T
Ordered mine with the same colors as yours yesterday with a pom plate and i'm really excited building it. Just have to think which switches and keycaps i'm gonna get, but we'll see
Congrats! You’re gonna love it! It’s a really fantastic board. Personally, I really love the sound of long pole switches on PE foam, but you could really use anything on this thing! It took me a while to pick the keycaps, but I knew it was the SugarPlum as soon as I saw them
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 Thanks dude. Tbh, the sugarplum set looks really nice and clean, so i think, i'm gonna go with them. But as i said, have to look, which switches i get. Thinking about Black Inks V2 or some Oil Kings springswapped to 62g for example
@@lorenz7550 no problem! Ya can’t go wrong with either of those switches. Oil Kings have been really popular recently. They’ll be going in my next build for sure!
I bought my QK65 in round 2 last week and I'm waiting for it to produce and ship. I had no idea it came with stabs, because it didn't say so on the product page so I bought some Durocks😅 oh well 😂
Assuming they didn’t remove them from R2 it should have stabs! Plus, the owlstabs are the best stabs I’ve used! It never hurts to have an extra set lying around though!
Hey! Another great vid. Just new to custom keebs and a very bad decision maker here. There’s actually an ikki68 aurora collab in ic phase right now, and obviously the q2, bakeneko, and zoom65 exist as well. Would you recommend the qk65 over all this, or do you recommend something else or another keyboard that I forgot to mention? Thanks again.
Hey! Thanks so much for watching! I want to preface my answer to your question with this; I haven't gotten my hands on the Ikki68 or Zoom65 yet so my opinions could change, and I could be very wrong about something and not know yet. I'll do my best to help you out though! I think the Ikki68 will be best-in-class for experimenting with typing feel. There are SO many different ways to build it that you could just never stop tinkering. Plus, Polycarb cases have a very nice sound signature. (EX. KBD67 Lite, which is also worth checking out. R4 should be live now. Less build options, but very well reviewed keyboard) The Bakeneko is by far the easiest to disassemble and try out new mods with. The o-ring mount is also very comfortable to type on. It is pretty stuck in a higher-pitched sound signature, though. I absolutely love my Q1. It's been a work horse since I built it. The Q-series has a track record of needing a few mods, but they're an amazing in-stock option that give you a lot of room to really make them your own. I can't wait to build the Q2! The Zoom65 is really going to draw the most comparisons with the QK65. They're both great value keyboards! Especially if you like the PE foam sound. I don't think the Zoom will feel as premium due to the QK's steel weight, and I think the QK will be more flexible with sound profile. It seems like the Zoom just starts to sound bad when you take out all the foam, but the QK can really sound great in any config. The Zoom does have a knob, though, and I know a lot of people really love their keeb-knobs! Plus the Zoom's sparkly finish is really nice haha There's a lot of options right now. I could probably go on forever lmao. None of the boards you mentioned would be bad for a beginner, but if you're willing to wait for a group buy to deliver I would suggest the Ikki68 or the QK65. They're leading the pack with innovation that's affordable.
I haven't personally tried it without, but I think it would still sound great without it. There is zero hollowness in my current build, and I think a lot of that is due to the sheer weight of the... well, weight. But both the bottom silicon wedge and case foam are so easy to remove and add I really recommend that you try with and without them if you want!
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 thanks i will be definetely trying that out, also, which plate is your favorite? I have heard that the fr4 plate is more flexier than the pom plate on this board
@@halashao9415 POM and PC are definitely the softest/most flexible, but I always end up loving FR4. It's a good middle ground between the POM/PC and aluminum/brass flex-wise, and I, personally, love the sound of FR4. I also prioritize sound over flex. As for the flex cuts on this specific board, I don't really have a definite answer. I know they added more flex cuts on the FR4 than the POM just because of the difference in material, but I can't tell you for sure if that makes FR4 more flexible or not. Either way, I'd say just remember that this isn't the most flexy board in the world, and even if you get the most flexy plate it isn't going to give you the craziest flex. Hopefully this helps! Very sorry if it's just long winded and useless info hahaaa
@@thesurgeonkeebs9857 Thank you lol this helped me a lot, i knew that the board wasnt so flexible no matter what so i might just get the fr4 plate, plus u dont have to take the board apart to switch switches lmfao
@@baguettebaguetteneverforge1758 they actually still have some b-stock of them left in stock! It won’t have the exact same color because they were a miscolored batch, but it’s still worth looking at if you like the design
@@coleydotmp4 I think the green gold sold out first. I think they made a bunch more of the chroma because it was so popular. Idk for sure though. Just what I heard in a thread
