Hi Elias! Glad it worked out! You are very correct! If it's sticking out, it'll get snagged on the housing :) will need to adjust the length lite bit depending on the different stabs!
Thanks for that. Your links go DIRECTLY to the parts we want to hear, not to the delicate tapping. Allows immediate back-and-forth comparison of all four sounds! 👍
One other method I've found to work is if you wrap the band aid cutout to the wire itself if you don't have translucent stab housings, or you lubed the housing beforehand and the band aid won't stick, even after cleaning. The only thing you gotta watch out for is when you insert the wire back to the housing is to slide it gently so as to avoid peeling off the band aid off of the wire. Also, don't overdo it with the lubing since this could strip the band aid as well. If you put small or moderate amount of it on the wire, the band aid won't fall off and it will dampen the sound and ease the rattle. Furthermore, make sure that you don't put too much of the band aid as it may become too thick, so the amount has to be enough to cover the wire a single time, no more, no less if you don't want to impede the movement of the stabilizer.

great tricks. Have a nice day
Thanks for the great advice DancinStyles! If your cooler master is soldered switch type, then without desoldering the entire thing, the easiest way to fix that rattle is by grabbing some dielectric grease, and shoving some into the stabilizer stem hole :)
Thank you so much for this video! I’m building my first keyboard and was so discouraged tonight when I tried to install my stabilizers and got some AWFUL rattle that ruined my space bar sound! Will pick up some bandages to holee mod tomorrow, and am feeling lots more confident after watching such a straightforward tutorial. Thanks again! 💖💖
I hope it works out! Make sure to really thoroughly clean the stems if they already have grease or lube in it! Otherwise the bandaid won't stick and/or will fall out very quickly!
With my keyboard, I just used a drop of thick silicone shock oil that are commonly used on action figure joints, didn't have to do any hacks, no bandaids, etc. It made it completely silent, with zero rattle, and it only took like 5 seconds to drop and clean it. Silicone shock oil is commonly used for action figures for the squeking and overly tight joints, and because it is thick and isn't messy, it stays in place and the more friction it had, the more effective it becomes.
In the future, when you're doing comparisons like this, if you can compile the sound tests at the end with quick swaps between them it makes it much easier for the viewer to make a decision about the sound.
Thanks a ton I spent months trying to fix the owl lab stabs that come with the QK65 with the holee mod not really working for me (too mush and reduced travel), then I discovered your vid covering the epsi mod that fixed the travel feel and rattle.
This is great just in time for tuning stabs for my new builds. I was very annoyed with my Tofu since I've taken it apart and lubed and tuned it so many times but the space bar still ends up a bit rattly on one side.
@@sky2934 Hi sky2934! That's great it worked out! I have 4 GMMK Pros torn apart in front of my right now as I type this :) I'll have a video out this week covering the GMMK Pro and some of the things I have tried to improve the feel and sound. This is an interesting keyboard...
Bro you just nailed it. I think you need to make some commission build stream and VOD on youtube. So we have experience how to build board from the first step to the final step.
when you heat up heatshrink tube you can pull it to stretch it thinner 20% or more. then complete heat shrinking, this might help you fit the hit shrink into the stab housing.
For the holee mod with me, once I did it all my 2u stab keys sounded amazing, but instead of tick at the end due to unbalanced wires, the left side was fine and the right had a bit of rattle becasue of the unbalanced wires. For anyone still looking on this video, if you want a truley crisp sound then you would still have to wire balance. (I didnt because I suck at wire balancing)
I bought my first mech keyboard because of your channel, and the only thing that disappointed me were the super rattily spacebar. I did the bar-end mod and its perfect!!!!
Hey guys. If you're new and dont't have hotswap or a solder iron, you can just use some cotton balls and chuck it in there with a tweezer. Its the same deal, but the cotton may take some finessing to get it to stay in place You just need to get some cushioning for the wire and the stem. It's not gonna look pretty but nobody's gonna peek at your stabs. Hope i helped. I got rid of the tick noises without desoldering a single switch. My stabs were cherry plate mounts
thank you for the tutorial! I used the holee mod but with a cloth tape and it works pretty well too, now my cheap outemu spacebar doesn't sound so bad anymore
Thanks for reuploading this, i was wondering why the holee mod wasnt shown in detail lol. Gonna build my first keyboard really soon, an xd84 and the epsi or holee mod looks promising. Saving this video for when the build day comes!:D
you know what I realized, People who have great gaming keyboards and setups on youtube get free stuff from stores. so basically rich people get expensive things for free, I'm not trying to hate on tech Keybored because I love them but sometimes I wish companies would send me free stuff lol
I think the issue with these methods is longevity. The metal bar is constantly in contact with the band-aid/fabric. Which means friction, fraying resulting in a hole. The fabric pads are very, very thin and aren't gonna last very long compared to lube, which you can just apply them when it dries out.
Yup! I go back and forth from Holee to bar end. Holee on fresh stabs and bar-end on used ones, since it's such a pain to get all the grease out of a used stem lol.
It seems that wrapping the bar method should be the best because it adds extra filling between the bar and the sidewalls of the stem. I think optimal material would be some kind of felt but I don't know any product that would be thin enough.
I have been filling my stabs with so much 205g0 and it's felt like such a waste! i got some plate mount durock stabs and am going to do the holee mod on them as well. Thanks for making this video!!
Can you tell me how that feels? My PCB doesn't support screw-in stabs so I will probably end up doing this, too. I plan on buying Everglide Panda stabs.
@@andfromearth Nice, would you reccomend I do it on my GK61x? I will be ordering Everglide Pandas to replace the stock stabs. Or should I get plate mount Durocks instead? This is my first build as well
@@joeschmoe296 tbh I’ve never used the Everglides but I have heard good things! I’d say you can’t really go wrong with Durock though if you can get your hands on them
I would just like to say that painters tape can also be used instead of a bandaid for the holee mod. You just need to put a little bit of lube on it because of the texture
Your content is incredible. It's nice to watch a video and not squint when looking at small intricate parts through my monitor. Your production is great! Now, my $0.02. I've never understood all of these crazy stab mods. I've always built with Durock V1/V2 and use strictly 205g0 and have never had rattle. On occasion, I'll use a syringe and inject some in trouble areas, but that's it. Any type of band aid mod always gives me a mushy feel. And holee modding leaves me wondering if there's going to be issues down the road. This Epsi mod is especially concerning due to the fact that grease will eventually get on or near that double sided tape, thus potentially causing it to shift and 'gunk' up the stab stems. I guess we'll see what happens in the coming months/years and see if these mods hold up. Just something that I've never really understood. Anyway, keep up the good work!
i just finish cliping and lubing them stabs before coming across this video of yours. crap, now i wanna redo them. gonna try out the bandaid wrap mod because that seem simple enough!
You can also use cooper tape instead of bandaid for the mod in the end of the video, i taped the wired with double layer of cooper and the thickness of the wired come from 1.6mm to 1.7mm and it pretty good for me though :D
@@Keybored i do know about that tape but i neva thinking about using it in this circumstances lol, i learned from this guy, but he used only 1 layer in his video, with 2 layer, the thickness will up to 1.7mm and it is more stable, just try out and you will see, it will be fun i think :D ua-cam.com/video/zQBxG4TWP8w/v-deo.html
One thing to do keep in mind after doing these mods and still hear rattle is acceptance lol. I feel like stabilizer tuning is either hit or miss regardless of how good you tune each and every stabilizer per key. Tuning stabs will drive you crazy (based on experience). I hope someone would make a stabilizer that would create little to no rattle/tick even with just lube alone.
Muchas gracias like y suscrito.
I've been watching so many stabilizer mod videos and I still couldn't grasp the idea of a stabilizer rattle until this video. Thank you for such an elaborated demonstration. Now that I applied the Holee mod to my stabilizers, everything is solved.
Scott, great video. This video was the introduction for me to your channel and I love the content you have and so I have subscribed. If I may have a request, I would love to know more about the different mounting styles of keyboards. I have been looking for a new board but have been overwhelmed with the different keyboards that exist and I was wondering if you could do a compare and contrast video to help explain the different types. Thanks for your awesome work - keep it up!!!
Thabk you so much for the sub Kyle! I really appreciate it! In terms of the mounting styles, I'll look into what I can do! I may have most styles to leverage, but probably missing a few less utilized and more rare mounting types. Lately, it seems like most keyboard manufacturers are going with gasket mount. That tends to provide a more dampened typing experience and sound. However, most styles can feel and sound really nice, given the right type of mod for that mount style. For example, tray mount keyboards are considered "entry" but if you saw my tofu65 video, I with thr o-ring mount mod, it turns out phenomenal. :)
i'm so much of a keyboard novice that i even made up a very tacky fix that i did to my keyboard. what i did was i put a shit ton of patafix / bluetack / tack all (basically like play dough, but much more dense and heavy. and is not greasy) i put so much on my backspace, enter and spacebar that i think it's too heavy for the rattle to have an effect on the keys. it's very easy. it works and my keyboard sound amazing, atleast for my newbie ears. it's enough for me i guess. but there's no such thing as enough bluetack. hope this helps.
Hi RaptorN60! I tried this before, but couldn't find heat shrink that was thin enough. However a few viewers did find ones that worked, and I feel it'll have some great results. I will try it out in the future as well!
For the bar end wrap, I had trouble with the spacebar being stuck, even with 1 layer only. So for my smaller housing, I only wrapped half of the wire’s area, next to where the wire bends 90 degrees.
Instead of using bandaid to wrap the bars, piping teflon tape could be a good alternative. You don't have to waste bandaids and you can wrap however many layers you want.
I just got a brand new logitech keyboard and guess what? Yep the sound of space and shift is different -.-' It drives me crazy so ty very much for the helpful info on how to fix it
Do you have a link to the exact band-aids you used? It would be crazy if someone made a test video of the holy mod with different types/brands if they make much of a difference. Awesome video!

Hi Koji1x! I have been going back and forth between the holee mod for its consistency and the bar end wrap for its ease of application. If it's a brand new stab, I go with holee, since I don't have to clean anything. If it's a used and greased up stab, I just clean the bar and use bar end wrap :) I'm lazy but laziness births ideas sometimes
Just wanna share my own mod to stabilizer. I used thick lube for the end points of stabilizer rod and instead of using bandaid to the contact surface of pcb and stabilizer housing, I used the thinnest 3M double sided tape (the gray one) and put a thin layer of tissue paper so that it will not stick and I can put some krytox 205g0 lube. No rattle and it doesn't feel mushy
Hi Everyone! I had to re-upload this tutorial to provide some more detail as well as provide credits! Hope V2 is better!

Thanks for the feedback!
Spacebars are truly the most unruly and annoying part of any build!
Yup! It's always the right side for me for some reason...
@@Keybored Haha, for me it's the left!
@@Keybored Holee mod tutorial worked like a charm on my GMMK Pro Goat Stabs! Now to tune that rattly Tofu. Thanks again!
Oh, damn it, I've been trying to create timestamps because I didn't see chapters, but then I found the timestamps in the description :D
:) Thanks for helping out Alex!
Bro you just nailed it. I think you need to make some commission build stream and VOD on youtube. So we have experience how to build board from the first step to the final step.
Hi Jeff's! Thank you for the comments and support! I will look into making a full start to finish keyboard build in the future!
when you heat up heatshrink tube you can pull it to stretch it thinner 20% or more. then complete heat shrinking, this might help you fit the hit shrink into the stab housing.
That's good advice! I haven't tried that so I should look into it in the future!
These intros are pure gold
For the holee mod with me, once I did it all my 2u stab keys sounded amazing, but instead of tick at the end due to unbalanced wires, the left side was fine and the right had a bit of rattle becasue of the unbalanced wires. For anyone still looking on this video, if you want a truley crisp sound then you would still have to wire balance. (I didnt because I suck at wire balancing)
I bought my first mech keyboard because of your channel, and the only thing that disappointed me were the super rattily spacebar. I did the bar-end mod and its perfect!!!!
So glad it worked out! Welcome to the hobby and the rabbit hole! Don't get sucked in too deep! :)
@@Keybored i got sucked in too deep :((((((( lol just kidding i just bought a varmilo keyboard, solder iron and lube and did a few mods
Definitely great advice! That sounds like it'll work great in a pinch!
I've heard about this, and apparently, the cotton balls will eventually slide off with repeated use. So, it's probably just a short term solution.
thank you for the tutorial! I used the holee mod but with a cloth tape and it works pretty well too, now my cheap outemu spacebar doesn't sound so bad anymore
:) You're welcome! Glad it worked out!
Thanks for reuploading this, i was wondering why the holee mod wasnt shown in detail lol. Gonna build my first keyboard really soon, an xd84 and the epsi or holee mod looks promising. Saving this video for when the build day comes!:D
No problem! I just kind of skipped over it saying it's similar to epsi... But didn't feel right about that afterwards... So decided to fix it
you know what I realized, People who have great gaming keyboards and setups on youtube get free stuff from stores. so basically rich people get expensive things for free, I'm not trying to hate on tech Keybored because I love them but sometimes I wish companies would send me free stuff lol
:) it's an interesting world we live in lol
they have those cuz they worked for it lol
don’t cry they earned it
You have the best keyboard channel on UA-cam. Thanks for the great content, keep it up.
Thank you Anthony! I really appreciate it! I'll keep up the grind!
Haha I love the start! Wonderful video, by the way!
Thank you so much Binh! I'm glad the video was enjoyable!
I think the issue with these methods is longevity. The metal bar is constantly in contact with the band-aid/fabric. Which means friction, fraying resulting in a hole.
The fabric pads are very, very thin and aren't gonna last very long compared to lube, which you can just apply them when it dries out.
I agree with you xoox! I think for longevity, the bar end wrap will last longer
@@Keybored it might be too thick, but have you considered a bit of thin heatshrink tube on the bar ends?
@@tobymarol7329 rama suggested that in one of their tutorials, but it fails miserably for a lot of people
Holee mod in my opinion is a life saver, I have yet to have a keyboard that has bad stabs thanks to the holee mod
Yup! I go back and forth from Holee to bar end. Holee on fresh stabs and bar-end on used ones, since it's such a pain to get all the grease out of a used stem lol.
the bar end method really saved me! thank you so much.
Not a problem! Glad it worked out!
@@joeschmoe296 after some breaking in it feels great!! Hasn’t rattled since, and doesn’t feel mushy
I’d say you can’t really go wrong with Durock though if you can get your hands on them
@@andfromearth Ok, and you don't need to clip plate mount stabs do you?
Not me tapping ever so lightly on my spacebar to trick myself into believing it doesn't rattle
:) The spacebar... always a love and hate relationship
I would just like to say that painters tape can also be used instead of a bandaid for the holee mod. You just need to put a little bit of lube on it because of the texture
Thank you for the great suggestion!
Very informative! Looking forward to that spacebar video!
Thank you Sam! Glad it was helpful!
Instead of the bandaid for the wrapping the wire ends, I use thin plumbers tape since if it's too thin you can always wrap more.
Hi prilosecular! Another viewer mentioned that as well! I may give the teflon tape a try in the future!
How does it hold against the lube over time? I assume it performs well since it's plumbers tape! Another good idea I might have to test out!
:) Thank you so much Phil! Yeah, with these new mods, longevity will be the big question. I guess time will tell!
Thanks for this video.
I have fixed my epomaker sk64s easily with last method, fast and simple, now sounds so good.
Yup! I have been experimenting with the bar end wrap method, and I feel it has good potential!
i just finish cliping and lubing them stabs before coming across this video of yours. crap, now i wanna redo them. gonna try out the bandaid wrap mod because that seem simple enough!
:) That is the simplest one! Make sure to grab really thin bandaids!
Dude, what an excellent video!
Simple and objective.
Thank you so much Odnei! I appreciate it and hope it was helpful!
Holy mod with band aid wrap??
You can also use cooper tape instead of bandaid for the mod in the end of the video, i taped the wired with double layer of cooper and the thickness of the wired come from 1.6mm to 1.7mm and it pretty good for me though :D
I've never heard of Cooper tape, but I will look it up now!
That sounds like a good idea. Did you lube it as well? I think I want to try this mod in my future build!
your hands are remarkably steady
Thank you Layarion! :) I guess a lot of practice!
Not sure if this was available when this video was released, but today, I would just use the C3 SouleMate modding kit.
Stabilizers are part art and science lol. I heard the Staebies ones are amazing and require no tuning at all!
Another weekly banger! Keep it up
:) Thanks Grape Chowder! Stay tuned for a slew of keyboard review/mod videos coming up!

:) So glad to be of help!
I've been watching so many stabilizer mod videos and I still couldn't grasp the idea of a stabilizer rattle until this video.
Thank you for such an elaborated demonstration. Now that I applied the Holee mod to my stabilizers, everything is solved.
Glad it worked out! Such little tactics to improve our keyboards lol... Its an interesting hobby!
@@Keybored It does...!!! LOL
Again, thank you.
I’m sure I’m not the only one hearing it, but the holee mod just sounds better as well. It’s not rattle, it’s just it has that thock to it.
I believe the holee mod typically produces the most consistent results!
@@Keybored btw what board is it?

i'm so much of a keyboard novice that i even made up a very tacky fix that i did to my keyboard.
what i did was i put a shit ton of patafix / bluetack / tack all (basically like play dough, but much more dense and heavy. and is not greasy)
i put so much on my backspace, enter and spacebar that i think it's too heavy for the rattle to have an effect on the keys. it's very easy.
it works and my keyboard sound amazing, atleast for my newbie ears. it's enough for me i guess. but there's no such thing as enough bluetack.
hope this helps.
Hey, if it works, it works!

bar-end wrap actually works quite well..
6:25 You can use old stem if you first de-grease it. Basically lots of pure enough alcohol is required so solvent the grease away.

If the stabs have grease on them, you can clean it off using rubbing alcohol ahead of doing the epsi mod.

Hi RaptorN60! I tried this before, but couldn't find heat shrink that was thin enough. However a few viewers did find ones that worked, and I feel it'll have some great results. I will try it out in the future as well!
@@Keybored I will try it with my next build, if it does work i can send you some heat shrink :D

this is a fantastic vid, earned a sub right here! thank you

@@Keybored thank you for the vid I am waiting for all the parts to arrive for my first mech build! this was incredibly helpful!
great looking keyboard!
For the bar end wrap, I had trouble with the spacebar being stuck, even with 1 layer only. So for my smaller housing, I only wrapped half of the wire’s area, next to where the wire bends 90 degrees.
Great advice! Yeah for the bar end method, the type of bandaid really makes a big difference!
Instead of using bandaid to wrap the bars, piping teflon tape could be a good alternative. You don't have to waste bandaids and you can wrap however many layers you want.
I wonder if it will unravel easily though
Many viewers actually recommended this! Will definitely be trying it out soon!

Out of all of this, which one is your favourite?
@@Keybored Nice, thanks for replying man
The exact video I needed.
:) Glad to be of help David!
Thank you for another suggestion ARCEYADA! We can collectively defeat stab rattle!
