You are able to do it with spin charge in mid air, but its much harder to do. 7:31 - That tech is called Spin Charge Jump since its possible to do it with spin charge and a fully charged spin dash (Let go of special and immediately press attack. The spin dash version is only possible on the ground) 21:10 - Called Aerial Spin Pivot and you can B reverse it and turn it around.
While you were explaining the spin charge, he would go into his crouch position. I never realized how much he wags his tail. Like I knew it was there but I never thought of it as something that moves weirdly enough.
Lot's of things worth mentioning I'm not sure you forgot or just don't know: - Another way to "Charge shot": While charging, flick your left stick up and press B once. Just once, if you press it twice you'll Spring out of the arc (which can also be used as some kind of a "get out" mixup. - 10:40 This is a variation of "Vertical Spindash Jump", in which you press A while charging spindash. The result is exactly the same, the only real difference is you do this one out of Spincharcge, so technically it's a "Vertical Spincharge Jump". Also, note that these two techs have a hitbox *only while rising* and they always send the opponent in front of you, so it's best to use it while the opponent's falling in order to force an option and frame trap him, while the opponent's at a platform on top of you so you can pressure him and A-Cancel with an UpAir, or at ledge in order to ledgetrap your opponent at jump. - 18:40 It's not necessary to use C-Stick for that one. It's useful, but it's not comfortable. You can alternatively tap A to Spinshot, same as in Smash 4, only in this game you have to wait for the full charge, so it's harder a timing. If you go straight up (Vertical Spindash Jump or just total fail) or don't jump at all, you're doing it too soon, while if you jump without momentum you're doing it too late. When Spinshooting, you use your doublejump, so be careful of going too deep. Sorry for late posting, it's 21:00 (-04:00 GMT) here and I just arrived home

Bro, this might be it. This tech might be the thing that makes me switching my main to sonic because I love playing with him but I didn't get as much results as with PT in tournaments. I love your videos man, big fan right here!
Amazing guide Clockwork! Though a quick FYI for everyone else, I accidentally found out you can also quickly/safely exit a Side-B by just pressing the Grab button. This triggers a jump cancel similar to the one from the Down-B. It might not be as quick as the method you showed, but it's definitely easier to perform!
This is a really great guide on Down B and Side B! It’s great just like all the videos you’ve made and will make! Keep it up dude, can’t wait for part 2! 👍 🔵💨
Clockwork! Love your vids man! Just wanted to let you know that the charge hop can be used to get out of Sonic's side b as well. While charging up side b just hit the a button to make Sonic do the charge hop. This can be used to do quick turnarounds off of stages as well. Keep up the good work!

Also my offstage Sonic gameplay is pretty garbage so these techniques are SO useful! You are also the first person that tells you EXACTLY how to use spinshot! THANK YOU! Hey clockwork, I've been maining sonic for a few months after I started watching some of your videos, I love all of your content! Also I use the same control scheme, and it works great on most characters
Congratulations for the guide! Your explanation of the diferences between the spins and the advanced techs gave me more interest on making Sonic my main again! One thing I'd like to point out is that Sonic can jump two times before letting go of the fully charged Spin Dash. If you simply charge until it hits yellow, you can still jump two times before Sonic let go of the Spin Dash charging animation. This gives more movement options, and can also pressure the opponent for more time.
Yo you gotta mention launch trajectory differences at low, mid, high percents on light, medium, and heavy opponents. There's some true combos with spin charge and spin dash that you could talk about. •Spin Charge: medium opponent / 70-88ish% - full spin charge, double jump, forward air •Spin Charge: heavy / 20-50%ish - full spin charge, jump and wait till right above opponent, down air •Spin Dash: medium / 70ish? - full spin dash, wait till just after hit on ground, jump, up b, up air etc.... The launch trajectory of both moves is super important. Great video!
Amazing guide ! I allready knew most of those techs but didn't know how to execute them precisely, thank you. For part 2 I think showing how to perform the B-reverse homing attack would be neat, I never use this 'cauz I'm not consistent with it and end up homing to my death lol
I already know a bunch of this stuff, but I really appreciate good Sonic guides like this. And I said I knew most, I didn't know about the Spin Charge jump to quickly get off stage to surprise your oopponents or using Spin Dash to turn around in the air to use Bair. Useful stuff. And I sometimes did the jumping in place on stage with Spin Charge but need to do it more.
It's great to see you doing a guide on Sonic since you're my inspiration for getting better with the Blue Blur. I often find myself using Down B more for combo setups but I think I should start using Side B offensively since I tend to use it for recovery only (Uncharged Side-B to the stage, double jump and Up B). I didn't know Side B had I-Frames, I'll take advantage of that against zoning characters. I already knew about using the Charge Shot but never really incorporated it into offstage play, those clips gave me some ideas. Can't wait for part 2, until then I'll try to use some of these techniques when I play with Sonic.
It was Super helpful thanks to that i Improved stuff that I know and learned stuff that I didn't know thanks man very appreciated keep uploading those tutorials they are huge help
People say how basic Sonic's moveset is... it's true, but that's what makes Sonic so customisable in the game. You could really go with just about any play style as him. Ask Kels, Sonix, or 6WX and they will all tell you different ways of how they play the fighter. Very interesting.
OH. MY. GOD. Everyone at school thought I was crazy to set ZL as jump, but now I can prove them wrong, showing them that the best Sonic player ever does the same! Thanks so much! XD

A tip for the spin shot, when sonic is moving backwards while you charge side b, wait until he is as far back as he can be (without turning yellow) then release side b and slam your c stick (or whatever you use ) down at the same time.
OMG, Yasssssss! Thank you so much for this!! I’ve been waiting so patiently for you to finally upload guides for Sonic, we appreciate it so much! I can’t wait for the next one. ^ ^ P.S. How do you use these for movement and whatnot? I always see you jumping out of the down b while in the air and stuff, it looks really useful and cool. Thank you.~ 💫 (just now realizing I am not subbed, oof.)
Thanks it means a lot! I plan to make a video talking about how to recover with Sonic where i think that'll answer your question about jumping out of down b and side b in the air 👍
