  • In this video we attempt to start my wrecked #yamaha #thunderace for the second time. This project bike rebuild has had numerous setbacks and here we are finally about to see if all the hours spent trying to restore this old motorcycle will eventually come to fruition.

The nerves before starting a bike you don't know you've fixed.. Then the feeling of relief when it all starts !
Love it, watching your videos gives me them feelings all over again!
Cant wait for the cr project.
When you turn engine over to see if oil is reaching everywhere, i say check your service manual for an "oil check bolt" on majroity of bikes there is a bolt at the top or side of the cylinder head, which purpose is;when undone you can see the oil is reaching the top most part of the bike. Only a little bit runs out and bike has to be on!
Also very smart turning bike on / off to get fuel pump to prime carbs, in future working on multiple carb bikes it is easier filling up the carb bowls using an external tank; as some bikes dont prime fuel until oil pressure is reached.
Also at end when bike started, the rpm on guage is trying to tell you something; its a fault code. Might just be unplugged sensor

' I am a professional' always make me smile, the suspense and drama was too much to take, had to sit in a dark room after too calm down😁. Really appreciate your being open and showing us the highs and lows. Everyday can be like this as a amateur poor, keep up the good work, thank god you have Nicole to help you out. Cheers

All saying "set the carbs up", which I agree with, but do it with the exhaust you plan to run on the bike, not the original. Well done, its great to see one of these, rebuild a bike video, where it goes wrong, its not all plain sailing and I'm sure a lot of the trolls have either never actually rebuilt a bike engine or have gone through the trials and tribulations previously before they "learned" I am truly pleased for you 🥰, just as well you had a true professional doing the work alongside you 😁

Welcome to the highs and lows of Bikes dude! After 40+ years of riding, breaking and rebuilding bikes I can honestly say that they live in a spectrum of their own! From the absolute amazing highs to the abyss defying lows, nothing on this planet compares to a bike. Your about to experience one of those highs as well, riding a bike that's taken you to hell in a rebuild, taking it onto the twistiest road you can find and slapping it from side to side through the corners ( at the speed limit of course! 🤪) is mind blowing! The thing about bikes over everything else is that they become a part of your soul! I was an Instructor for 15 years and I used to tell the students to beware, the NHS has systems in place to help you from addictions such as alcohol, cocaine, heroin, cigs etc etc but once biking gets into your soul your fecked for life! In a good way of course! The problem is tinkering with them is just as feckin addictive! Great job dude! Now balance the carbs, reset the timing screw, (Plus all the other 1000 little bits that need tweaking before you can ride her lol), put on new underwear and go and feckin ride the bitch! 🤘😁

I bought my first ace at 21, and now I'm 33. I had to sadly sell her due to some financial issues. I can confidently say I own four Yamaha Thunderace bikes now. I am glad I came across your channel a few months ago. There aren't many people rebuilding these bikes across UA-cam, being an oldie. It's really difficult to find the Thunderace in South Africa; most of them are in bad condition or are not even recognizable. I am glad that I have started to follow and watch your videos because I am in the process of building the two Thunderace bikes now. Both have wiring problems, and by watching your videos, I can gladly say this has helped, and I know what to look for now. I am currently in a group of a few people who still own these beautiful machines, which are rare in South Africa. The value of these bikes has all gone up. I'm hoping to at least keep them until I'm an oldie myself. Hopefully, they will be recognized as classics.

  • @sm17adh

Hurrah ! well done. Before closing up the air box I would have gone for a squirt of quick start through the carbs to confirm a start before trying it on petrol. The short clip of your fuel tank cleaning with vinegar and coke looked grim so good to see you’re using a known clean fuel tank. Any doubts on that original tank and I would be filling that with Evaporust for a good soak and second clean up. Also consider fitting an inline fuel filter if there isn’t one to catch any remaining junk/ debris. Looking forward to seeing the paint job.
