- I Bought the Cheapest Kawasaki. GPZ1100 on Marketplace
Hey everyone, welcome back to Motorcycle Rewind! Man, do we have a treat for you today. So Keri and I hit the road for a 300-mile round trip adventure to pick up the cheapest 1984 Kawasaki GPZ1100 we could find on Facebook Marketplace. Now here's the kicker - we snagged it for only $400! Yeah, you heard that right. The big question now is, did we just score the deal of the century or did we buy ourselves a 400-dollar paperweight? I can already hear the bike gods laughing, but let's find out together.
This GPZ1100 is an absolute classic. It was the bee's knees back in the '80s, known for its killer combo of power and comfort. But like any bike that's been around for almost 40 years, it's got its fair share of quirks, rust, and 'character,' if you know what I mean.
Over the next few videos, we'll be diving deep into this beast. We're talking full inspection, the ins-and-outs of its quirks, and, of course, getting our hands dirty in the garage. We'll take you through the entire journey - from seeing if the engine even turns over, to hopefully, fingers crossed, taking it out for its first ride in who knows how long.
So, was $400 a steal or did we just throw our money down the drain? Stick around to find out. And hey, while you're here, don't forget to hit that 'Like' button and subscribe to Motorcycle Rewind. Your support helps us rescue more of these vintage warriors.
See you in the garage! 🛠🏍💨

You are so fortunate in the US to have such a large supply of used motorcycles at crazy knock down prices. You would never find these sort of bikes in the UK at those prices. That's why there are companies shipping container loads of them over from the US to UK and selling them here for about 6 times what they paid for them. Your $400 GPz would be on the market here for £1500-1800 ($2000-2500) as a non-running project. Good luck with the GPz, it's a great '80s muscle bike!
Love it, you can never have too many Kawasaki's 😊
My thoughts too!
Put your winch remote on a keychain bracelet
Definitely. Dropped it on purpose so that after 36 years of marriage, Keri knows I still need her.
@@motorcyclerewindwords of wisdom I’m gonna have to barrow this knowledge lol
"His and Hers" GPz's.... I like it. Fix up the silver one, sell it, and get a red '84 or '85 GPz 550 for Keri. (Same body work as the 1100.) Keep that GPz content coming. 👍
That would be cool, his and hers!
Keri would ride a 550. I already have a GPZ550 I have to pick up after Barber Vintage Festival.
Nice find! Starter button didn't work because there's a safety switch on the clutch lever, and you didn't pull the clutch lever. Also, it might be tough to adjust the valve lash, since that engine uses shims, which are tough to come by these days. Also, the shims are located underneath the buckets, which means you must remove the camshafts to exchange shims in order to adjust valve lash.
Thanks for the info! This one is going to need a full rebuild. Very low compression.
Only thing better than having one gpz, and that is having 2 gpz 😂 . Great episode really enjoyed it, good seeing these older modern classic 80s bikes getting a second chance.
That’s right. I really like these old GPZ’s.
Smart man I like your setup, can tell you’ve done this once or twice 🏍☕️❤️
Thanks.
My GPz 305s (I had two) were both this silver scheme - very smart! 👍
The silver is really cool.
I love when us crazy guys salvage a vintage sport bike...
Some reason I thought this was a good idea.
There's a movie quote that applies here:
"There is no cause that is lost as long as there is but one fool left to fight for it!"
I've restored a lot of old CB radios, and the current project is a Drake TR-4C transceiver.
"To the winch, wench." LoL 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Kari and the wench FTW! (I hope she doesn't see this 😁😜)
🤣😂🤣she lets me talk trash in Pueblo but straightens me out in private.
🏁🏁🏁 great find its definitely worth the bucks.👍🏽🏍🏍🏍
I think so. It’s gonna be fun getting this guy back in the road.
That looks like a great project.
The fuel injection should save a lot of hassle that old carbs normally bring which is a bonus. I've worked on so many split diaphrams in GPz/GT/Z carbs over the years it isn't funny.
It is a shame so many old GPz tanks rot out like this, but at least you have a good route to repair it.
If you have not already done it I would cut out the sidestand sensor switch as they were a very common failure point which prevent the start button from working.
I'm looking forward to seeing more on this project - good work!
That’s a good idea about the side sensor.
Very nice project! Also because you already know the bike!
I really envy you: the chance to buy those amazing motorcycles for that money, and also have the place and the time to make it run.
Keep on!
Thanks Juan. I really enjoy bringing these old motorcycles back to life.
Love the content, Great post
Thanks.
10:33 For a second I thought I heard the red one growling...
Yep, I thought that bit of carpet belongs to the red one also!!😀🏍
@@harrothepilot LOL 😆
@roadagent7921 It sure was.
😂That carpet is so I don’t have sit in the concrete.
Yesss!! Its time!!
Waiting on a fuel pump.
I’m so happy I stumbled across this channel you rock man!
Thanks so much. Really love bringing these old bikes back to life.
I love your videos, one of the best bike channels on UA-cam 👍
That is very kind of you to say. I really love trying to bring these old bikes back to life.
I am eager to see it restored.
You and me both. 😀
Going to be a cool project
Should be loads of fun.
Now I will have another GPZ so someone can go on a road-trip with me.
@@motorcyclerewind I reached out to you by email.
Nice video.
I've always liked how you clean it up first then go to work on it.
The process of cleaning will often reveal many problems. It works on a lot of things.
I like to clean them up so I can see the potential.
The crome back then was so much better
Yes it was. Thanks for watching.
Awsome bike for that price. 🌹👌
Definitely worth the price of admission
Can’t wait to ride with you to Florida! 🌊
I rode the GPZ to Florida today.
Pretty nice bike …if the engine is good …it will awesome! Can’t wait to ear it…with a 4 into 1!
Hopefully it sounds like the one we already have.
Great video on the GPz. I have a 1984 Honda VF700F Interceptor in red, white and blue with period correct Yoshimura exhaust. Nicely restored. I'm curious as to where you source parts for these old beauties? I'm always looking for parts to add to the inventory if and when things fail. They are getting more and more difficult to find. She sits proudly next to my 2013 Honda VFR1200F. Love them both!
I always start CMSNL.com. Here is the link to the video I did ua-cam.com/video/MbHprSOXSRM/v-deo.htmlsi=JM4dYC38lH9128p4
Awesome! Thank you sir!@@motorcyclerewind
These things were absolute death traps when they came out , so imagine what it’s like now .. check out the handle-bar cap that holds the swing-arm secured on the right hand side , loading the clutch on & off like you’re starting to do a burnout flex’s it in & out .. high speed handling was atrocious
Dang I wish someone would have told me before I rode one 3,000 miles.
Yea mate I wouldn’t worry too much , it was mainly the long fast 180 klm sweepers that you would get the flex ,
so blokes used to ride the back brakes to keep the swing-arms tensioned ,
so unless you’re absolutely giving it the berries you will never really see it ,
and we used to replace those 8mm Kawasaki Allen’s bolts in that cap with air-craft quality high tensile ones
so you could torque them right up , and the motors are the typical bulletproof Kawasaki units.
there’s always a fix for things,
Not bad at all, it looks complete. Finger's crossed it doesn't have a blown engine or trans
My other GPZ was worse so I have high hopes for this one.
I'd gladly pay $400 for a bike like that. Very hard to find a complete cheap bike around here
Where are you located? The new fuel pump should be here any day. 🤞fingers crossed we get it to fire up.
Always check for the kak in the air box/cleaner before firing the baby up, ingesting mice and nest not cool. Good luck, GpZ experten.
I checked it when I was pressure washing it and noticed the holes in the air box.
Shit they both legends to me
Thanks for watching.
*gets wrist strap for winch remote* ;)
😂 that’s a great idea.
ha ha ha.... put that horn on the MT1-B...
LOL!!
Did the ad read "Ran when parked. Some work required"?
😂😂some assembly required.
@@motorcyclerewind ...and of course, "batteries not included". I love that movie!
We have an 550 like that red one just sitting and I’ll like to get it up an running
Where do you live? I am willing to make a house call.
I’m curious, did you get it with a title??? All the cheap deals I see on market place do not have a title.
No title. It’s not that difficult to get a title in Louisiana. Especially if it’s from out of state.
Wow 😳✌️😎
This one’s gonna be fun.
Try never dull metal cleaner
Someone else recommended that also. Gonna have to get me some. Thanks for the tip.
Try aluminum foil to remove rust from chrome
Heard of this. Gonna have to give it a try. Thanks for the tip.
Ohvale your should buy one
Everyone should have one. Or two😂
I didn t find the second part, did you made it to start it?
It has low compression on two cylinders will need a rebuild. So it got pushed into the corner till I decide to do it. Thanks for watching.
Little bit of effort = Hope
Agreed. It helps that I have already brought one back to life.
Where’s the second part to the video ?
A friend wanted it more than I did. So it moved to his house.
Where can I buy lower fairing for '83 Gpz zx1100???
I have a lower fairing that I am not using. Email me at motorcyclerewind@gmail.com
🍩🥟🥓
Does this mean you are bringing over donuts and bacon to help me work in the motorcycle.
Too much I just got a 1996 gpz1100 for 200 cash
That’s a great deal. Send me pics to motorcyclerewind@gmail.com
Repair run first 🙄
Agree. Has to run. If not it becomes parts for others to run.
